Now that Dart wasn't grade-a freaking out, and the line was shorter, Renathan knew that they job here was probably finally a quarter of the way done. From here on out it was going to be filing the paperwork, doing the waiting, and then getting a breeding room and doing the waiting there. Orbaru breeding was after all as much husbandry as it was waiting in Renathan's experience. It was super difficult to wait too, it was so exciting to see babies and how they would turn out. Renathan had no idea what to expect with them but he had made it a hobby to try to figure out what would come out of these kinds of breedings. Who knew which parent would pass more genes, or if it would be more equal? Renathan had no idea and that was what made it super exciting to him. That was why he loved this hobby, even though it might not be the best thing to admit that he absolutely enjoyed breeding orbaru specifically to see what coat colors they would have. If it was anything other than orbaru, then Renathan would never breed them for such a purpose as this one. At least Renathan treated his orbaru quite well enough.

The other people in the line, surprisingly enough, didn't have orbaru. After orbaru began able to be bred again, this place had been PACKED with orbaru, absolutely packed with people waiting for them. Sometimes the waiting list stickers were all the way in the multi hundreds. Renathan had waited three hours one time as well, so he almost expected that every single time that they had actually come here for orbaru breeding. However, this time there wasn't any orbaru to be seen; or even any pachee! There wasn't even the lotine here! There were houluh. Renathan had heard that houluh were breedable, he would never have guessed, and he wasn't really interested in getting into them himself. They seemed like more of a... Uppier hobby? He preferred his simple orbaru, as opposed to some kind of fancy set of hounds. It made it much easier on him to be able to do something low stakes like this.
The orbaru were pretty quiet now, with Dart paying a lot of attention to the other creatures for a moment, even though none of the houluh looked at him. Pixie wasn't even phased; really most orbaru were not. They didn't have that prey drive for the most part that others had.

It was probably a good thing. Houluh were generally well trained by the time they made it to adult; for what reason Renathan did not know since he wasn't planning on breaking out onto the houluh breeding scene hopefully ever, but he did hope that little Dart wasn't going to figure out suddenly that he was quite small and would probably be delicious to any meat eater with an inclination. Thankfully, most Orbaru were not that way, so Renathan had not had to worry about it quite yet. So far, so good, now that Dart was calmed a bit. The houluh paperwork must be easier than the orbaru paperwork, Renathan surmised, since the line was so much more quickly dwindling than he remembered it having done in the past. Or perhaps it was because it was cold outside and he didn't want to be here right now. He wanted to be at home, enjoying some warmth and not really having to worry about being out before the snow covered the ground enough to make the trek back home (and of course out to return Dart) dangerous. At least it wasn't supposed to get icy until later in the day, he reminded himself.

With that thought in his mind Renathan watched as the tiny remainder of the line dwindled down to nonexistence quicker than anyone would have expected. Renathan breathed out a breath he had no idea he'd been holding, and then scooted Pixie's critter crate froward with his foot. The resulting scrape of plastic on tile was defeaning, but of course it did no damage to either, and it hardly roused the sleepy-sleepy female sloth orbaru. It was probably a good thing that she was so bombproof and like this. Renathan wasn't too worried about her, it was mostly Dart. The males, in Renathan's experience were often a little finicky and easily panicky, or at least some of his were and to the capacity that orbaru could even be those things with their rather docile nature. Perhaps it was just something that Renathan had noticed only because he had so many of the little furry critters. He had to differentiate them all from 'fuzzy and dumb' somehow. Couldn't treat all of them like they were the exact same, really. But Dart didn't seem too finicky or scared of anything. But he was interested in everything around him, and zoomed around in his little crate.

The back leg thumping and zooming was annoying, and Renathan could only imagine what sorts of things he would do if he was left to his own devices? He couldn't really think of Dart being able to keep himself attentive to the female with all the toys that would be in the toy room! Usually his orbaru didn't bother with the toys in the playrooms, by the time they usually get back there the two orbaru aren't normally ready to pay attention to anything other than each other since they were usually bothered by being in the front room for so long, able to see and smell each other during that time period. Renathan hoped that he'd actually get to see them play today, but he doubted it with how lazy little Pixie was. Then again, sometimes she ran around faster than one would even be able to imagine.
Renathan sits Dart's critter crate down level with Pixie's crate so that he could begin to fill out the forms. Honestly it was his least favorite part of this process, but he knew that the quicker he got it done, the quicker he could get into a room. Well, that wasn't necessarily true, but it felt like it.

Of course it really depended on what kind of people were ahead of him. Where they experienced breeders? If so, they would probably have an easier and quicker time getting this stuff done and getting out of here to let more people in to the rooms. Where the creatures well taken care of? If so, they would probably have an easier time acquainting to the situation enough to get out of here quickly. Renathan finished up his paperwork quickly, getting out of line and grabbing one of those little waiting room stickers that let him know what his number was in the waiting line. He also picked up both orbaru of course, and was happy and surprised to see that Pixie had her eyes open just a crack, and though she was still drooling from sleepiness, she was definitely awake and watching Dart. Well, that was a good sign! Renathan had been worried she'd sleep the entire time and refuse to actually do what she was supposed to, but at the very least she noticed the male now. Dart, on the other hand, was SO ready to get out of the critter carrier and actually -play-. Renathan went to sit down in the waiting room.

The waiting room was normally completely packed, or at least it was when Renathan was doing most of his breedings last summer. It was almost alien that the waiting room was so quiet and empty. The mammalian found himself a place to get seated and then sat down, a little away from the others, and put the two orbaru critter crates together in such a way that they would be able to see each other easily enough. The rest of the people in the waiting room had houluh and even a single lotine for the most part, but Renathan only saw one single person with a pair of orbaru. That was a good sign; they should be able to get back quickly enough! The mammalian looked out the window at the snow. It was quite pretty when he got to be warm, but he wasn't really looking forward to going out and walking back home in that mess. Still, it was something he had to do. Luckily, the orbaru would be warm at least. Renathan had prepared for this, it was something that he was skilled at. It didn't take long for a couple of the houluh owners to get called back.

The mammalian wrapped his twin tails around his feet to warm them up some, and then looked at the orbaru to keep an eye on them. Dart was desperately trying to get Pixie to play with him, and to her credit she was awake. She just didn't see the point in doing a whole lot of moving around, Renathan could tell. She was generally pretty chill, she knew she was in a box and she was going to make the most time of that. But still, this was more interest she had shown in anything in forever, so she was probably pretty amused by Dart's hyper antics. Dart was doing several little chases of his own tail, and it made the russet-furred mammalian chuckle just watching it. He didn't see many orbaru chasing their tail like that. He sure was an excitable little mess? But he was cute, and Renathan figured that the clan of orbaru that Pixie lived with could totally use a hyper little orbaru or two. Most of them were sneaky, in that room, and it would be nice to have an orbaru there that could deal with the ninja-like hops that the orbaru in that 'clan' tended to force others to endure.

Renathan had been jumped on by an orbaru multiple times when visiting these particular darkly colored ones. Renathan tended to keep the orbaru with similar backgrounds together in order to keep families in tact, though sometimes it was required to separate the children between the mothers and fathers. Pixie did not live with her brother or father, but she did live with her mother. In this instance, since Renathan did not own Dart, he figured that the babies would most likely do best with their mother instead of with any of the other 'clans' in the orbaru house. Renathan thought of these things as he watched Dart try increasingly random things to try to get the attention of Pixie. It was like he didn't really notice that she was even awake. Still, little Pixie's cheeks grew even more purple, and Renathan was sure that she actually really liked him, even if she was being a cute little lazy sloth right now. Time passed, the other orbaru breeder was taken back finally. Renathan knew that the waiting game was almost over, or at least the first half of it. He would still have to wait for them once they got into the breeding room itself.

Hopefully by the time they get in there, Renathan thought, the orbaru would do whatever they were going to do quickly and he wouldn't have to stay very much longer. He didn't want the snow to be any higher than it had to be whenever Renathan went out to do the remaining errands for the day. Of course the day that he plans to do this, it was going to come an absolute blizzard... Oh okay, it really wasn't that bad. He could be a bit of a drama-king in his head, he knew. He chuckles to himself, and thankfully by that point the waiting room was pretty barren. Apparently houluh breed a little quicker than orbaru. There wasn't anyone that came in after Renathan either, probably since most people had the sense not to go get themself holed up orbaru breeding during a snowstorm. Renathan shook his head, and then heard his number called. Finally, he couldn't help but being excited that they were going to get back there. "You hear that you two? That's our number!" He couldn't help but say excitedly, picking up each critter crate as he had before to transport them back. He followed the breeding center helper out of the waiting room.

Of course the orbaru didn't understand Renathan, but that was okay. These particular two probably wouldn't even understand his tone, not really. He didn't spend enough time talking around Pixie while she was awake, and of course Dart wasn't his. Still, it made him less nervous to talk to them. Renathan was silent as they went back to the breeding rooms. One of them was opened for him, and he ducked his head respectfully as he dipped into the room, carrying both of the orbaru beneath his arms in their critter carriers. His arms were a little sore; Pixie was heavy so he'd worked to make sure that they spent equal amounts of time beneath one arm and the other arm to try to minimize the soreness. Renathan was happy to be able to put them down in the room. He decided it would be a good idea to let the female out first, so he opened up her crate and waited for a second. She wasn't too keen to move still, but apparently the male was pretty motivating to her. She got out of the critter crate and then plopped down on the soft carpet, picking her out a toy to half cuddle and half nom on.

It was pretty cute when sloths were doing things like drooling on their toys in all honesty. Renathan was pretty well pleased with her having gotten out of the critter crate without Renathan actually having to take her out himself, so he goes ahead and opens up Dart's critter crate, not exactly sure what to expect. Dart had really shown to be excitable and unpredictable up to this point, so Renathan was a bit concerned. In fact, he had an aarg parent, right? That probably wasn't going to bode well... At least the sleepy genes from Pixie might manage to uh, temper that down some? Renathan sure hoped so, because he already had a ton of really excitable creatures to deal with. Dart did not disappoint, and as soon as he realized that the door was unlatched and open, he ran up out of the crate faster than Renathan probably would have guessed that an orbaru could go. He was just so excited to finally be out and be able to PLAY! The dark creature was a streak of red and green as he flew across the room, past the female and straight to the slide, much to Renathan and Pixie's confusion.

Renathan sort of suspected that Dart might have some issues paying attention to the female, but he didn't expect Pixie to look so upset that Dart wasn't really paying attention to her. She immediately got up, looking about as cross as Renathan had ever seen an orbaru look, and waddled over to the bottom of the slide. When Dart came down the slide the second time, she pounced on him clumsily, not doing quite well at it, but her bulk was enough to stop him for a second, though not to hurt him. The pair tumbled around for a moment, and for once Renathan doesn't go to find something to do while the orbaru are playing. He's honestly pretty curious as to what Pixie was going to do. This didn't seem like something that she was known for. Most of the time when Renathan went to visit the clan of orbaru she was housed with, she mostly slept in anything that was remotely cup-board like. She liked to get into little hidey places and just nap for hours on end. Renathan had found her sleeping in closed drawers often, and he'd have to 'save her' by opening up the drawer. She never seemed too bothered by it.

Even now that Renathan had her out at the breeding center, he half suspected that Pixie would probably find somewhere really quiet to curl up. However, it seemed like she was all sleeped-out for now, and wanted to play. Renathan was not aware that Pixie even played with other orbaru at all? Now that he searched his memory, he'd never really seen her play with another orbaru before. The closest she'd come to it was letting all the other orbaru pounce on her when she walked past, or even as she slept. Now that he thought about it, that was probably why the poor sloth probably liked sleeping in cupboards and drawers and little hidey spots. Now though, she seemed to be exerting her desire to play on Dart, who seemed happy enough to be doing something, anything. He was still so full of energy that Renathan wondered if he was going to tire Pixie out. She sure did sleep a ton during the day and night, so she must not have a whole lot of energy. It was something that sloths did, at the very least. However, they continued to play games, with Dart well, darting about, and Pixie mostly standing her ground.

Renathan was pretty proud to see Pixie start to wear Dart down. Finally, Dart seemed to cool off, laying down on his own accord near a plushie as Pixie stood over him, looking a little bit scary actually. Perhaps that was the trick to Sloth orbaru; they had a ton of stamina didn't they? They could probably outlast other orbaru in regular play, if one could get them to get up and actually play. Pixie seemed to take this as a win, and pounced on him again, much to Dart's chagrin. For a moment, Dart's eyes met Renathan's and an understanding passed to Renathan; the poor creature was exhausted. Pixie finally seemed to understand as well, and settled down beside him for a cuddle, grabbing him up in her kinda bulky front limbs. She had to be a little bulky to be able to carry her weight, after all. Dart was all tuckered out, and Pixie was pleased with herself. Renathan figured that he needed to get that baby berry out and give it over to them to share. They'd probably breed soon, however that worked. Renathan gave the berry to Pixie to keep food aggression from occurring, and was pleased when Dart got a little bit too.
