Silver didn’t go anywhere without having at least a few flowers around. This property had some early spring flowers that had sprouted up and survived the storm. All they had to do was find them. They stood up and wandered around for a while until they found one.
“There we go, do you see this, Maggie?” they asked. It was a cute, frail little flower.
They hated that they had to do this, but they ripped the flower off of the stalk and held it up for Maggie to see. They held it out in their palm so that she could sniff it, which she did. She was surprised when they crushed the flower in their hand and dropped the petals to the ground.
“The flower is injured now,” Silver said. They pointed to the stalk where it once was. “Can you fix it Maggie? Make it bloom?”

Unfortunately, Maggie didn’t understand. She wasn’t sure what they wanted, so she reached down, sniffed the fallen petals, then swished her tail idly waiting for instruction. Silver frowned. They would have to try something else, perhaps.
They grabbed another nearby flower, but this time took a lot of the stem, too. They carefully broke the stem in half, and showed the two pieces to Maggie. Then they put them back together again with their hands. They held the flower there for a while and smiled.
Then they leaned down and pointed at the flower on the ground. They held the ends of the stem together on the flower in their hand, holding it over the other flower. Could she understand the connection? Put the flowers back together. Heal them.
Maggie still didn’t understand. She licked the flower in their hands, but that only broke it apart again. Silver laughed. Well at least she tried! It was cute at least, so they wouldn’t blame her.

Silver wondered how they could communicate that she needed to heal the flowers. The same way they had healed them before. Did it even work on flowers? They hoped so. That train of thought, however, gave them a terrible idea.
“Alright, I hope this works…” they said, trailing off at the end. They took a sharp breath in and used their own claws to cut their arm again. The only thing that had worked before was blood. She needed to see blood in order to heal things. That was a lot tougher than healing flowers, but it was what had to be done.
Maggie was surprised to say the least. Why would they do that? It was making her anxious. She was upset and wanted to make them better right away. Had she failed the first time? There was a lot to think about, but mostly she just wanted to help them.

Maggie touched her horns down to their arm again where the small cut was. Her healing powers were probably overkill for such a little injury, but this was the time when they had her focus, so they had to do it now.
“Bloom, Maggie, bloom!” they encouraged. Yet again the flowers on her head began to burst into full life. They looked brighter, smelled better, and grew bigger than ever before. It made them smile, but they were quick to pull away when she was done. They didn’t want to use up all of her power, in case it was limited or something.
Some of their blood had run down their arm and ended up in their paw with the flower that they had broken. A small amount of blood coated the stem and leaf of the split flower. Silver stared at it with a frown. What a weirdly beautiful yet sad thing.

Then they had an idea. The blood was enough to make her bloom before, and the flower wasn’t… but now they had both! Silver was excited to do another test of her abilities. They held up the flower so that she could smell it and see that it had blood on it.
“Do you see this, Maggie? The flower is bleeding, just like me, can you fix it? Can you bloom?”
Silver was pleasantly surprised when Maggie fell for the bit. She let her flowers burst to life again, blooming rapidly and healing the two pieces of the flower back together. This time they let it continue without pulling away, and watched as the flowers grew to their largest size. They covered all of her horns all the way down in large pink and white petals.
“Maggie, you’re beautiful. You’re blooming,” they smiled and offered her a treat.

They took a long break after that, enough to let the sun start to go down. It would be time to go home soon. They had seen a lot of interesting things that day, and they were glad that they had taken the time to bring Maggie out to the Academy. They got to know her very well, they thought. Or at least they got to know her abilities.
“Wait, before we go,” Silver said, trailing off. They hopped up and went over to a nearby tree. They dug out a knife from their bag and cut into the bark. As they had expected, it began to ooze with sap after a moment.
“Maggie, come here Maggie,” they called. She lazily wandered over and yawned widely. It was as if she was saying she was tired, and wanted to go home. Silver rolled their eyes. Creatures were always so dramatic when they wanted something!

“Okay okay,” they said. “We can go home, but I want to see you do this one last thing for me. Can you bloom, Maggie? Bloom for the tree. Bloom!”
They tapped the tree with their palm so that it made a thunking sound and Maggie looked at it. She sniffed at the sap and wondered what Silver was on about. That word, bloom. They had been practicing earlier. But that was when they had their arm cut. Was this like that?
“You can do it, I know how clever you are! Show me you know how to do it. Show me that you can bloom.” Silver put a strong and clear emphasis on that last word. All they could do after that was hope that she got the hint. So far she had been very good at picking up on patterns, with how she handled the fence building, then the vine growing.

Maggie wasn’t sure it was quite right, but she decided to try it anyway. She gently leaned in and let her horn touch the tree where it was cut. Then she did just what she had done before. She used her blooming magical flowers to cure the cut in the tree.
“Wow I can’t believe that worked. You nailed it!” Silver said. They rubbed her sides and gave her the last treat out of their bag.
“Well, what do you think? That was my last treat, so I guess we have to go home. You know, I wonder what other secrets you might have… but those will have to wait until tomorrow.”
Silver sighed when they realized they had forgotten to finish the cleanup, but they were happy with their progress nonetheless. They had also fixed the fence, which was a pretty good bonus. When they came out that morning, they weren’t even sure that they would accomplish that.
