Day in and day out, Morgan and Millicent worked. The pair got stronger together, and soon Millicent was able to push through her entire weight (not that it was much) into both punches and kicks. It might not do a whole lot of damage to a big target, but another harachiu would definitely have to watch out. Heck, perhaps even a human. Morgan wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of any of that. Morgan continued to have her practice though, on making sure that she could respond to the 'cue words' rapidly and without having to think about it. With lots of work and practice, the harachiu had gotten the technique down pat and was reacting to the cue words without having to waste time thinking about it. Quick. Reflexive. It was good.
Now, Morgan knew that they would need to take a break so that Morgan knew how to properly teach her the next few steps.

Morgan wheeled the grill on wheels to the park from the mansion. Morgan and Millicent had been planning a cookout, but they decided last minute that it was dangerous to hang out at the mansion that day, so Millicent and Morgan decided to go out to the park instead. There were a few things that Morgan wanted to teach Millicent anyway that they had been meaning to work on, so they decided that it wasn't a total loss, coming out this way. They had been planning on doing other things instead, but this was just as good a way to pass the day away as any! Morgan chose the same spot they usually did, and got the grill kicked up to standstill. "Here w-we go, you ready to grill?" Morgan said, smiling at Millicent. She seemed kind of far away, right now. Perhaps she had seen something out at the mansion that she didn't tell Morgan?

Parents must spend a ton of hours worrying about their children. Morgan watched Millicent as she was turned away, and could tell that the look on her face was not at all good. Morgan wanted to be approachable, but it was difficult to swing this kind of thing when one adopts a child, of any race or creed, that was not a tiny one. She was already herself, already began her life before Morgan had met her, so it wasn't their place to try to reform her. No, they would be here when it was time for her to come to them, and not a second before. Morgan patted her on the back gently anyway, and then found a good spot for the items they brought for the grilling. They reached for the charcoal. "Remember what I to-told you about fire safety, Millicent." Morgan said. Millicent nodded, and found a place on the table nearby to sit.

Morgan was glad that Millicent wasn't too much of a rebellious kid. It would be horrible to have a small child like this and them be rebellious and get into danger. Luckily for both of them, Millicent had a bit of a studious streak, and she wasn't super naive either. Relatively naive, yes, but not overly so for her age. Millicent knew to stay out of harm's way even without Morgan having to do a whole lot of reminding. But still, it was in Morgan's sense of self to remind those around them to take care, from Millicent all the way up to Seimei. "Alright, I'm going to light the charcoal." Morgan warned, opening the charcoal bag and upturning it into the grill before sitting the sack away with something on it to keep it from flying away. Then, they got everything ready to do the lighting of the charcoal.

Morgan got the charcoal lit and then sat down theirself, knowing that it needed to burn down for a bit before they could begin the cooking process. Morgan and Millicent weren't just out here to grill, however. Morgan was here to teach the harachiu the next few steps to some of the things that Morgan had wanted to work with her on. "Alright Millicent, w-which next step do you want to do next?" They asked. They learned a long while back that giving kids a chance to make a choice made for a smoother experience when it came to getting tasks done that required them to want to do it. People would even do things they didn't like to do if they felt like they had a choice in which thing they were going to do. Choice was everything when it came to people. "The agendas w-we have today are the next step for you to learn to ride mounts, the next step in your self defense training, or the first step with dodging."

Millicent kicks her legs as she sits on the table and tries to decide which thing she wanted to do first. Morgan was patient, and watched the charcoal in the grill burn as they waited on her to decide. Millicent was humming as she considered, and then she hops up suddenly when she makes her choice. "I think I want to learn the first step to riding!" Millicent said, looking excited. She had wanted to use a mount for a long time now, but she wasn't quite done learning. Morgan chuckled. "Alright Millicent, though we already did the first step when I took you riding on the Tsetse the other day." The human said, smiling. Millicent nodded excitedly, and then said- "Awww alright then, the second step!"
Morgan knew it was going to be a while before the charcoal was ready. "Okay, the cue word will be... Ride?"

It always felt silly working on cue words with their family, like they were pets or something, but Morgan knew that it would be good for later, in case of a pinch, they might be able to act without having to look so that they wouldn't be in danger. For stuff like this though, it just felt patronizing. Morgan knew that Millicent felt it too, but it had to be done. Millicent nodded, grinning. At least she looked happier now than she had a bit ago! That was Morgan's plan all along. "Alright, so the next thing you need to l-learn isn't quite as rough as learning to ride on my lap." Morgan explained. "This one is literally just catching a ride on my shoulder or wh-wherever whenever the cue word is given." It felt really silly, but Millicent was thankfully a very good sport about everything.

Millicent being such a good sport was probably the only reason why Morgan didn't feel absolutely horrible about teaching her, but she was a child and did need to learn. Morgan had realized, through working with their family, that they definitely did not want any biological children of their own. They couldn't imagine dealing with a child for upwards of eighteen years that acted like a baby for a quarter of that or more. Tats and Hara tended to be a little wiser feeling, or at least they grew up more quickly than did human children. It made for much less frustration overall.
The Harachiu and Morgan began the work on getting her to learn this one rather quickly, as the charcoal burned down. Morgan would give the cue word and then the Harachiu would fly up to their shoulder or their pocket or something of her choosing and sit while Morgan walked around.

For a being that could speak and learned words rather quickly, it wasn't difficult to teach words and what they meant. While someone could probably spend most of the day just trying to get a Vulticus to sit on command, a being like Millicent was just like a human child and only really needed to be shown once or twice (and she was more like an older child mentally, as well). However, the technique of riding whenever someone or something was moving was the difficult part. Millicent had to learn to make her balance improve so that she could hold on. It was almost like surfing. As soon as Millicent got the cue word down and the balance a little better, it was time to have her work on riding sitting down and standing up alternatively, to further smooth over her balance for future riding skills. Millicent was having quite a bit of fun, at least.

The cue word wasn't quite a point of contention between them yet, but the human knew that eventually it would be an issue. They had to get all of this teaching done while Millicent was still young and not quite in that rebellious teenager stage, so that they could make sure that their familial ties weren't completely ruined by the whole 'training' thing. Just thinking of it that way made Morgan a little squicked.
Morgan and Millicent made a little game out of the 'hitch a ride' trick, where she would try to balance on Morgan and hitch a ride while Morgan was running, or Morgan would try to trick her with a different similar cue word. It was quite fun all things considered, and Millicent made a lot of jokes and laughed. Morgan was glad that she was both learning and beginning to feel quite a bit better than she had been before.

After a good twenty minutes of this training turned game turned lesson Morgan and Millicent were both in better spirits and the harachiu was able to hitch a ride no problem. Morgan knew that the final step would have to be taught with the most difficulty; namely, Morgan would have to teach a Faeron how to be a mount and then teach the harachiu how to ride her mount. That was going to be the hardest work of all of this, they were sure. However, this was the second step, and after a bit more practice, Morgan was convinced that this second step was completed.
Millicent was a quick study on tasks that were as simple as this one, and Morgan was grateful for it. Hopefully the poor young one would continue to be a quick study today. "Alright Millicent. I-I-I think you've got this." Morgan said, smiling. "Which of the other two do you want to do next?"

Millicent had to think now. She was tapping the underside of her chin a little with her forefinger and thumb, something that Morgan had picked up from their father and now Millicent had picked up from them. Morgan couldn't help but crack a little bit of a smile at her. Millicent finally decides- "I want to learn the next self-defense thing- another attack, right?" Millicent had learned kicking and punching incredibly quickly but with a lot of work, she got into position and shadow-boxed at the air in a general fashion. Morgan chuckled, and then nodded. "Okay, the 'attack' first. This time ya-you are gonna learn how to use your wings." Morgan knew that her using her wings for an attack might just be a better choice than kicking or punching in the long run. Hopefully she never would have to use it in practice, however.

Millicent's face already screwed up a little, her little nose pinched and teeth showing, her eyes squinted. "What do you mean? My wings?" she looked back at one of them, wiggling it. Morgan understood the concern- her wings did look so thin and perhaps weak? However, Morgan knew that this so called attack wasn't really all that concerned with the strength of the wind itself past a certain point, but the ability to circulate air with it. It had a lot more to do with the creature's agility and reflexes with their wings. Morgan was convinced that Millicent could do it, even at her size.
"Yes, it's more about your reflexes than th-the size of your wings. You will be whipping air up." Morgan nodded. Millicent looked at her wings a little incredulously, but nodded in agreement anyway, ears flopping a bit as she did so. Morgan turned to glance at the charcoal in the grill.

Millicent had taken to this annoying habit of repeating things that Morgan had just said whenever she wasn't completely getting it, so Morgan wasn't surprised whenever Millicent murmured "Whipping air up..." beneath her breath, just loud enough for them to hear. However, the charcoal was burned down now and ready for Morgan to put the tin foil and meat on, so they stopped for a moment to do that and get the meat cooking. The human then turned around. "Alright, now that the m-meat is on-" Morgan started, catching Millicent's attention as she had her head turned for a moment. "We'll work on it. The g-good news is that you already know how to fly, so you should already know how to scoop air." That was the idea.
"With any luck, you'll be attacking using a wind whipped up with your wings." And hopefully harachiu 'magic' would have something to do with strengthening it.

Time for cue words, Morgan decided. "We'll decide on the cue word... Wind for this one." Once again, Morgan didn't like teaching cue words along with a technique to their sentient family, but they were sure to do so. It wasn't like Millicent would ever be thrown in the pit, or something horrid like that. Millicent nodded, eager to get started, and so they began. Millicent beat her wings fairly uselessly the first few times that Morgan used the cue word, and Morgan wasn't sure how to get her to fix it. Morgan, after all, did not have wings, and Millicent did have rather small wings. They weren't like the powerful wings of a gallor.
Morgan finally nodded during a break on which Morgan flipped all of the meat on the grill over. "Alright, let's try something n-new." Morgan said. Millicent was ready to try anything, of course. Morgan took the next thirty minutes explaining to Millicent and then trying to get her to do the new idea; the 'magic' that she had used to learn to fly in the first place.
