Sevyrn was able to pull the blue and white stone that had caught her eye right out of the crevice, and she admired it for a moment before handing it off to Hemi for him to bring safe keeping. Now that was a really pretty stone that she had never found before, it had earned itself a really nice spot along the top of her desk with the rest of her collection. She always loved getting her hands on something that she had never gotten before - but who didn't?
Pulling that out of the way left something else for her to find, tucked deeper in to the crack. The azurite was harder to see given that it was tucked out of the way of her torch's light, but Sev had seen enough of those to be able to pick it out. "Hey buddy - we found another one!" Sevyrn smiled as she showed the wynm the second gem.

Despite the fact that the second find would likely end up just becoming part of Hemi's collection until she either found someone who wanted to buy it, turned it in to a piece of jewelery after the workshop opened back up, or ended up being sold to the underground, Sevyrn was happy to have come to find it. It wasn't a crystal or a fossil or something new or anything of interest at all, but who was she to complain? (She would love to complain - it wasn't a creature, therefore there was always the option to complain about it.)
"Alright, buddy - do you think there is anything else here?" Sevyrn asked the wyrm after he dropped the azurite down in her backpack and come slithering back over. He didn't move off or anything, just looked towards his girl - maybe that was a sign to Sevyrn that she should stick around here for a bit longer?

Alright, here it was. After making sure that her newest finds had actually been tucked safely in to her bag and stopping to take a drink, Sevyrn took her pick up off the ground where she had left it and looked around for a good spot - where did she want to settle for this time? She paced the room slowly as she eyed up every crevice and crack - maybe if she was lucky then she would find something just peeking out like she had with those last two shinies. Who knew?
She didn't seem to be in any luck in that department, though. Nothing seemed to stand out to her, not even in bright crystal torch light. That was okay, she could get digging - given that she had wandered deeper since the last time, she hoped that she was more likely to pick up some more fossils or gems than beofre.

On the topic of shovels, maybe it was time to switch up from the pick and see if maybe the shovel would get her anywhere better? Sevyrn put the tool back down on the ground, this time much more gentle than the last, and undid the strap on the side of her backpack that had been securing the other tool to it. With the shovel in hand it was time to actually pick a spot to work at and just... get to it. She couldn't wander around trying to find the 'best' spot all day - she was never going to find anything simply by wandering around.
She settled on the ground not far from where the torch sat perched in the wall, and brought her shovel down in to the compact stone and dirt. She had to put her weight in to it, push it down with her foot, but she was able to start shovelling.

Huh - digging seemed to have been angood call, Hemi seemed to go absolutely nuts after the second shovelful of dirt was freed from the ground beneath them, and his face was buried in it quicker than Sevyrn could realize that something was going on. What... was he doing? There was no way to claim that these things were intelligent, so she truly didn't know what was going on. Had he found something?
Yup - he found something. Seconds after diving in to the dirt and stone Hemi's head resurfaced, holding a stone of multiple shades of green between his powerful stone jaws. Despite the strength that his jaw no doubt had he held on to the thing gingerly, and looked towards Sevyrn. It was almost like he wanted her to say that he had fone a good job - that... was new. Was it because she had trained him a little bit, so now he sought praise?

Part of Sevyrn wished that she had a smarter creature here with her, but the only things that she had run in to in the mines were Hemi and that tunnel worm.... neither of which seemed to have any smarts to them. She had heard that much more interesting creatures could be found within these caverns - drakes and dragons with the same crystal formation of Hemi and other gems as well, even gargoyles. Now those were the kinds of creatures that Sevyrn wanted to find to bring along with her.
Not that she didn't like Hemi, of course - he had been a great little thing to come across, but he just.... Couldn't exactly read a wyrm's body language could you? Luckily he at least had the instincts to search out gems and lead her to areas that would be of benefit to him and therefore her as well.
Part of her just wished that he was a person that she could talk to.

Maybe she would have to go on a trip with someone else at some point? Of course the only 'friends that she seemed to have right now was Jack, and their relationship seemed to begin and end with the breeding center right now. Sevyrn was okay with that - it meant that she wasn't expected to go overboard, and they were happy to see each other on an as-need basis. Maybe she would be able to talk Quinn in to coming down with her? Quinn was more the adventuring type than the mining type, but she would likely be happy to come down here at some point...
At the same time, this was some of her peace and quiet. Did she really want to take that away by having another person around? There was something relaxing about being here with just her wyrm, going at her own pace and leaving whenever she desired.

Back to work... Sevyrn brought her shovel to the ground and this time she noticed the bright blue-green hue of a turquoise before Hemi could even sniff it out - nice! She may have picked up a few turquoise before but this was a new variety of it. It would fit nicely with her other ones at home - and it would probably be her favorite variety so far. Sevyrn called to her wyrm and he came slithering, and as soon as she handed off the turquoise it was placed safely in her bag. She was right - he had caught on with time. It was nice for him to finally be a little more useful than just slithering around expressionless.
"Thanks buddy," Sevyrn said to the wyrm, as she decided to switch back to her pick. As soon as it hit the wall, the resulting crash sounded... off. Hollow, almost. Was there something behind there?

Sevyrn was curious - she had found gems and fossils and crystals, and yet the idea of potentially finding a secret tunnel or cave within the mines seemed to be one of the most interesting things she had come across in any of her trips to the mines. Instinct said to aim low and knock out the bottom of the 'hollows spot as that would give her the best chance of creating a vulnerability so she did just that - and Hemi had never seen her use the tool like that so he was rather confused about what was going on. It took a lot of hard work but eventually when Sevyrn crouched down she could see the dim outline of a narrow tunnel on the other side.
It seemed that she had been right - and now she had to try to clear an entrance that would be big enough for her to enter.

"What do you think is hiding back there, Hemi?" Sevyrn asked while she was still crouched down, turning her attention to the wyrm who had slithered over to check things out. He peered through the small hole in the wall and cocked his head, trying to get a better look at what awaited on the other side - he would be able to get through the building gap much quicker than Sevyrn was, so he would likely be the first of the pair to see what awaited on the other side. Hopefully it would be good...
Sev needed to get back to work, though - if she built up the hole at the bottom then Hemi would be able to sneak through but she wouldn't be able to see him or even know if he was still in the area. Because of that she urged him to step back and started to work higher on the rock wall.

Crash! More rubble fell away from the wall, chunks of stone and a cloud of dust put off by the impact that hit Sevyrn so hard she choked on the dirt in the area - she really needed some safety goggles and maybe a mask when doing shit like this, getting dirt in to the eyes and lungs was probably really bad for her. After the coughing fit was over she went back at it, though - the stone wall was thin, thin enough that a few strikes opened up another small spot higher up. She didn't want the whole thing to collapse down on her and Hemi in one go so she aimed differently, hoping to be able to break the wall down chunk by chunk in a much more manageable style.
Hemi still did not seem to understand what was going on, but whatever was on the other side had him seeming to be a little stressed out.

Did he smell something? Sense something? It couldn't be gems - Hemi had never reacted like that to somewhere laden with shinies waiting to be found and added to his collection. The wyrm's unease bothered Sevyrn but it felt like it was too late to turn around now... she needed to see what waited on the other side of this stone wall, and they were half way there.
Clunk! Crash! One more hit from the pickaxe and a flood of stone and dirt crumbled away from the wall, Sevyrn having hit a weak spot in its formation. She screamed as a chunk landed hard on her foot, struggling to pull it out from beneath as more of the wall caved in. She freed herself just in time - another large piece of debris fell from the wall and nearly crashed down on her.
It was likely heavy enough that it would have pinned her thin frame straight to the ground.

This escapade quickly no longer felt worth it, the feeling of rocks toppling down on her being way too similar to that day years ago when she had nearly been trapped in a cave in - Sevyrn had been lucky this time around, just like she had been lucky that time.
The tunnel was open, though - the cave-in had opened a large enough gap between the walls that Sevyrn would be able to slip through and see what awaited on the other side. Hemi was still unnerved, especially after he had watched Sevyrn nearly be taken down by the stones - it wasn't like he was going to be able to do anything if that would have gone south.
"I... I don't want to go," Sevyrn mumbled under her breath. She knew that she had gotten this far so she should continue her adventure, but the panic coursing through her veins was overwhelming.

She couldn't, not yet - but she swore to herself that in a moment's time she would dare to venture through the broken-down entrance to the whatever awaited beyond in the newfound tunnel. For now she needed a moment's rest, to relieve herself of the adrenaline coursing deep through her at the very near accident. She sat in the center of the room with her knees pulled to her chest and Hemi slithered over - what was going on with her? Nothing bad had happened, she was okay. That was what mattered, right?
There were things to be done - gems to be found. Hemi didn't have it in him to wait, he had to go check out at least the new pile of rocks and debris that had formed on the ground surrounding the newly opened pathway. What if there was something interesting in there? He would want to know - did she not feel the same way?
