Sevyrn loved Seryn - that was a big factor in why she had put the hard work in to hand-making a pond in her back yard so that she would be able to move the one she had from the aquarium in her kennel down to her home. Skye had loved the place, especially after Sevyrn had picked up fishing as a hobby and start stocking it with small fish and more interesting, natural plant life that Sev was going to be able to find in the stores. Eventually it was only right that she brought another Seryn home, though - Skye was no doubt lonely and in need of a friend. It wasn't exactly easy to get her hands on new Seryn though, unless she wanted to find something more interesting than the common varieties.
That was how she had ended up down at the Rainbow Factory, picking out a tiny black and rainbow baby from one of the fishtanks. It was a good thing that she had plenty of money to spare right now.

Luckily it wasn't the first time that Sevyrn had ever wanted to take one of her Seryn down to the docks - and this one was much smaller, so it would be much easier than trying to transport Skye had been anyways. With a seryn this size, she didn't even need to pull out her little aquarium, she would fit right in a fishbowl! The hardest part had been trying to scoop her out of the pond with a fishnet, but once that was done life was easy; all Sevyrn had to do was drop her in the fishbowl, which was already filled with pond water, and from there she could walk the fish down to the docks if she felt so inclined. Though she wasn't the stumbly type the last thing that Sevyrn wanted to do was drop the fish bowl and end up hurting the little thing inside, so she elected to secure it in her cart and walk down that way.

She'd already picked out a name for the little seryn, who was part of a variety known as the 'blacklight'. Nightlight - she had the deep black body of the night accented by those bright, colorful stripes - it reminded her of a child's nightlight, illuminating a dark room in vibrant hues. It suited the little thing, she figured - hopefully the seryn would like the name as well.
After the pair reached the docks Sevyrn parked her cart at the edge of a wooden base, and stripped her clothes off so that she was left in a swimsuit. After placing her outer layer down in to her cart she was ready to climb in to the water with the little fish, praying that Nightlight would want to stay in the shallows. The current wasn't bad but that was a very, very tiny fish.
"Alright now... your turn," Sevyrn said as she picked up the tank.

She wandered in to the shallows, no higher than her shins, and sat down on the sandy riverbed. With the fish bowl in hand she lowered it towards the water, keeping a careful eye on the seryn who seemed to be rather confused about what was going on. As the lip of the bowl dipped beneath the water and the rest of the room in it was filled, she was able to swim out on her own - but she didn't seem to want to. Nightlight hugged the lower corner of the bowl, likely afraid as she had probably never been in a river before.
"It's okay," Sevyrn said to the little thing, though she was in absolutely no rush to force the seryn to swim out. Good memories were made by allowing the creature to be comfortable - she would leave the bowl and enter the river when she felt like she was ready.

Aha! The little fish was finally happy enough to swim out of the little fish bowl and enter the river for the first time in her short life - and she immediately zipped away. Anxiety hit Sevyrn hard as she worried that the seryn may swim off for good - or get herself in trouble, pulled downstream by a current stronger than her little body could fight against. The paranoia was always so strong when she was with her babies - it was a little easier with Brin now that she had learned some basic obedience, but this little thing... Sevyrn found herself wishing that they had stayed at the pond. She wanted Nightlight to be able to see the world around her, though - and she also really wanted the chance to go in the water herself.
The black seryn didn't wander far off, though - just a couple feet. After hiding herself between a couple pieces of seaweed she moved back towards the woman.

What a cute little fishie, bouncing around in gentle waves that were still somehow strong enough to move her around because of how tiny she was. She should have brought Skye along with her - the pair got along, and the older seryn could have shown her the ropes of how things went. Skye had been down here before - ages ago, but nonetheless. She knew these waters.
"Awh come over here," Sevyrn asked as she saw Nightlight's little bright eyes and bright stripes poke out between two pieces of seaweed floating through the water nearby. The seryn responded by rolling upside down and then back again before ambling with her tiny little fins towards the woman.
They didn't know each other very well, not yet at least, but that would change in time. Sevyrn barely knew her little fishie and she already loved her. Sev had an intense fondness for the babies.

The benefit of having a baby around? Sevyrn could start training before before she was older and potentially developed a rowdiness from not learning at a young age. All they needed was the basics, everything else could wait until Night was a bit bigger... and one day, maybe, she would be able to learn magic - that would be interesting, but it would take a lot of devotion. Sevyrn had only ever heard of the mystical matured seryn, never actually seen one in person before. It was a goal worth the effort... after reading that book on magic she'd bought the other day, Sevyrn found herself interested in the mythical arts.
"Hey Nightlight," Sevyrn said to the young seryn as she swam around, starting to work on teaching her the basic of basics - her own name. They could spend as long as they needed on this, she was working with a baby after all.

Sevyrn sat there in idle chatter with the little seryn, slipping her name in to almost every sentence so that would be the part that was emphasized to her. She wasn't quite paying attention as she was more interested in swimming around and checking out her surroundings, but she did look towards Sev every once in a while. If Night managed to time looking at her with when Sev had just said 'Nightlight' to her, Sev had a little stash of treats and would toss one towards Nightlight. The little seryn was happier than ever - she gobbled up the tiny little snacks every time they were offered with quite the gusto for something with such a small mouth. She liked this! She liked the girl who was giving her the snacks! She did not quite understand why she was getting them, but that didn't matter.
"Eh, Nightlight? You like your new home?" The little fish looked at Sev, and the little fish got another snack.

It didn't take much longer for the Seryn to seem to realize that 'Nightlight' seemed to mean something. She heard it and she looked towards the human and she got the treats - after realizing the connection between the word and the reaction, how was she supposed to not listen? It only took a few times in a row before Sevyrn realized that Night seemed to be making the association as well. Awesome! Sevyrn hadn't expected the young one to catch on so quickly because the younger ones tended to need a bit longer, but Nightlight seemed to be a clever little one.
"What a good girl, Nightlight," Sevyrn cooed as she offered the seryn another treat, wishing that it didn't seem so wierd to just... pet a fish. She couldn't say that was anything that she had ever done before, and they tended to be a bit slimy to the touch...

Swim, swim, swim - that was all the little fish wanted to do. She was young and the world was big and she'd never been in a pool of water this big! Nightlight had thought that the pond back at Sevyrn's had been a nice big home, especially since she still had other seryn to play with, but this was a whole new kind of big! She didn't dare wander too far off, though - the vast expanse was scary, and what if she never found her way back home? Nightlight, as much as she wanted to go explore, stuck close to the woman that had brought her here.
"You're gonna have so much fun with me Nightlight," Sevyrn said with the fish, who did a little barrel roll in the water in response before eying up the woman in curiosity. The seryn had no clue what the girl was saying but she'd heard her name - what was going on? Sevyrn thought it was just perfect - the seryn seemed to know when her attention was wanted.

Alright... they would work on the basics today and then come back home - it would be a lot for such a little fishie, but Sevyrn was sure that she would be able to do it. Just a few very basic commands to make sure that Nightlight was relatively obedient in case the pair accidentally wound up in trouble while out in the world. First up? Returning to Sevyrn on command. The woman had brought a nice amount of fish food in a waterproof container, so she was going to use that as a reward throughout their little adventure here today. After that... staying where she was supposed to be. That would probably be a pretty good baseline. Could she teach a seryn 'no'? If so that was something else that would also end up being very useful if she could. The little thing just didn't seem to want to wander off or do anything she shouldn't, though.

She let Nightlight swim around peacefully for as long as need be - but as soon as the baby seryn had swam more than a few feet off she was at a good distance to start working on 'come here'. Sevyrn called to the fish and Night swivelled to look at her girl, who already seemed to be holding a treat in hand. "Come here," she said to the seryn and held out the treat, and the offer of food was enough to get Nightlight swimming back on over. Sevyrn held the snack down to the water's surface and Nightlight bobbed up over it to nibble the treat right out of her hand - great, she was food motivated. It was... interesting trying to work with creatures who weren't, to say the least. Sevyrn did not have a lot of experience in that regard, and would have struggled a little bit more than usual.

Sevyrn didn't force the command upon the little fish, moving away to call her over to a new spot like she would have with an animal that was a bit older than the baby.. or at least on land. Instead she let Nightlight go back to her business swimming around Sevyrn's body and the plants in the near vicinity, only to call her once she started to get a little bit too far away. The second time it happened she tried to call without the offer of a treat to no avail - that was okay. Night was still learning, and it would take time before she would associate the word 'come' to mean that Sev wanted her over where she was now. Luckily seryn were pretty smart creatures, so the little thing would probably catch on pretty quickly. Either way Sevyrn was swimming with the fishes and having a great time.

After a few more spaced out calls with the treat at hand, Sevyrn decided that it would be time to try again without the snack. Worst case scenario she would have to whip some food out, but she was hoping to start moving forward and being able to reward after the fact. Nightlight swam off just a little bit, farther than the first time that Sevyrn had called to her, and then it was time to test the waters.
Sevyrn called for the seryn to return to her, and Nightlight inched forward about a foot before tilting her head. She knew that her attention was wanted, that was for sure. Sevyrn called again, and upon the third call she pulled the opportunity for a snack out of the bag. Now Nightlight was interested... of course.
The next go round they were luckier - Nightlight actually made her way over without the immediate reward in sight.

Now that Sevyrn was able to get the seryn to come back to her without an immediate treat, she would need to work on weaning her off of needing snacks at all. In her experience this part was much easier than trying to train a creature off of needing a snack to listen in the first place, so the bulk of the work was done. She started slowly, giving her a treat for the next couple rounds. After that Sevyrn started to skip rounds - more and more frequently as time passed. Nightlight always seemed to be interested, but as long as Sevyrn told her that she was a good little fishie and gave her a tiny rub on the tip of her nose, Nightlight was happy to go back to her own business bobbing around in the shallows. After some time had passed with Nightlight continuing to return to her over and over again, Sevyrn was happy with a job well done.
