"What about Fir?" Kadin said, seemingly out of the blue, while he was walking around looking for more plants to gather. It seemed as if after finding that one squash, that was all that he was able to find from now on. He'd only walked a few feet before seeming to stumble into another squash, this one just as green and orange and little yellow as the last one. With a contemplative hum, he picked it up and brought it over to the bare patch of ground he was keeping all the others, waiting for Mori's reply.
"Fur?" She asked, seemingly amused. So that was what he had been doing over there while he was looking for plants. Thinking about names. That was kind of cute, actually. She shook her head, though. That wasn't a name she'd really think to give a King of the Evergreen. He wasn't even furry! That probably wasn't the best name for a creature like him, especially considering how proud they could be. She looked over at it, wondering what it thought.
"Oh, crap, no, not 'fur'. Fir, like the tree." Kadin tried to explain. "But you're right, that probably isn't a great name if that's the first thing your mind goes to."

Kadin leaned back where he stood, trying to think of another name that might be appropriate. He hummed to himself a bit and started to wander off, looking for more plants again. And this time he found. Yet. Another. Squash. They seemed to be all over the place! Shaking his head, he gathered it up to put it with the rest, wondering if this was just his life now, lord of the squash. Considering the small pile of them that he was gathering up, it seemed like it might be the case. Plus, on his way over to the pile, he ended up running into another squash! With a huff, he passed it by in order to add the one he was currently carrying to the pile, then went back for the one he'd just found. Squash lord. That was him from now on. Nothing else to it.
While all that was happening, Mori continued to help the plant creature, thinking to herself. She'd suggested that Kadin name it, but she had a few thoughts of her own on the subject. After all, there weren't too many different types of trees out there that would be appropriate names for something like it.

So she considered the options and wondered what she might say to some of the different suggestions Kadin might come up with. Surely it couldn't be too hard to find the right name. Plus, surely the garden creature would say something if it protested whatever name Kadin decided on going with. She hoped that would be the case, at least. It wasn't like it was a baby and needed to have a name picked out for it. Whatever Kadin ended up coming up with would probably be fine.
Speaking of Kadin. He brought back the next squash and put it with the others. Then he stood up with a sigh, straightening out his back and looking around. Hopefully the next thing he found wouldn't be another god damn squash. Suddenly, he seemed to remember that he'd left Mori hanging in the middle of their conversation and started to consider names again. Hmm. Names for a plant creature. "How does he smell?" He asked, half joking. "Could always call him Cedar if he smells enough like a pine forest." He shot the harachiu a grin and was delighted by the amused look she sent back to him. That wasn't a bad name.

With that, he went back to looking for plants. There had to be more than just freaking squash in this place. Mori, for her part in all of this, considered the name. It was a good, strong name, even if he was just naming it after a tree. It fit with being an evergreen, much it like was. And, she leaned over to check, he certainly did smell like a pine forest. Though whether that was a personal choice or its natural scent remained to be seen. So, with a shrug, she said, "I can't see why not. Why don't we see what he thinks?" Then she asked, turning towards the king of the evergreen. "What do you think about the name Cedar?" It looked up at the harachiu as she addressed it, considering what it was she wanted. Then it looked over to the human standing not far away, since he was staring at it, too. It looked back and forth between the two of them, trying to figure out what it was they were trying to communicate, because it was sure they were trying to get something across. "Cedar." Kadin offered. "We could name you Cedar?" If it didn't seem to hate the name, anyway.

Kadin watched as the plant creature looked over at him, tilting its head as if it had no idea what he was saying. Which, fair. It probably didn't. It's not like they had just started using this word to indicate it or anything. Oh wait, they had! "Cedar." Kadin offered again, watching as it tilted its head the other way. "That's right. We're going to call you Cedar." And, with that, he wandered off to go looking for more plants. He figured they could just keep using the name in casual conversation and it would pick it up eventually. It seemed brighter than, say, the houluh or sarane he'd been working with all this time. Plus, if Mori used it, too, that would help. Speaking of, she smiled as Kadin wandered off and turned to Cedar. "Let's continue, Cedar." When the creature turned to look at her she fluttered her wings in delight at his attention. "Oh, good! Cedar, you're picking this up so well!" She'd never helped to train something before and something about the way Kadin had just assumed she would help pleased her grately. As a harashiu, she wasn't used to being given responsibilities like this. It was a good feeling.

Kadin walked through the gardens, his eyes mostly on the ground, looking through different plants, and trying to find anything he could that might be useful. There were, of course, tons of plants around. It was a garden, after all. But he was specifically looking for fruit, vegetables, or anything else that could be gathered and used later. After wandering for a little while, leaving Cedar and Mori mostly to themselves, he did spot something strangely striped hiding under a bush. Humming to himself, he knelt down in the grasses and dirt to grab it from where it was under some other plants. A blue sort of fruit with zig-zagged markings was freed from under the plants. Kadin examined it silently for a while, then shrugged to himself. He wasn't sure what kind of fruit this was, but he was sure that it could look it up some other time. So he tucked it away and headed back towards where everyone else was.
"How are you and Cedar doing over there?" He called over while he wandered, looking over to see what Mori and Cedar were up to. They were still gardening away, working on clearing plants away and whatever else they were working on.

"Just fine." Mori assured him. "Although, if we're working on teaching Cedar his name, shouldn't you be giving him treats?" She wondered, smiling at the plant creature when he looked over at the sound of her voice. "That's right, Cedar, we're talking about you." Although she didn't think that Kadin was taking this all too seriously.
Kadin shrugged at that. "Yeah, we can. I think you have the treats over there, just give him one whenever he looks over when we say his name. He'll get it eventually." Kadin advised. "Like, hey, Cedar?" No response. "Cedar!" He called louder this time, grinning when it looked over at him. "Hey, good job. Now give him the treat." There wasn't much more to it than that, after all, they just had to keep working on that with him.
While he was on his way to put the random berry he'd found with the rest of his findings so far, Kadin was still keeping an eye out for anything else he might find along the way. After all, there was plenty of plants around here and maybe from walking back at a new angle he might see something that he'd missed the last time.

There was nothing wrong with checking again just to make sure he hadn't missed anything the first time. And, wouldn't you know it, it was a good thing he was so thoughtful about it. On his way back he passed by a flash of white that was hidden under all of the otherwise green stuff everything. He looked around, digging through green leaves, before he found yet another weird berry thing, but unlike the last one with the zig-zag pattern, this one was entirely white. Kadin hummed to himself, thoughtful, and put the new berry in his pocket, too. He'd need to make sure to look both of these up later, they seemed pretty important.
Mori didn't seem to be too impressed, but she shrugged and figured that Kadin was the one who had more experience with this. "You'd think there'd be a more interesting way to go about this." She wondered, looking over at the king of the evergreen with a friend. "Cedar?" She asked, smiling softly when he glanced her way and offering her a treat for his troubles.
"Good!" Kadin called from where he was looking for stuff. "That's important, too, you know. You need to include praise."

He teased, grinning when Mori huffed. "Cedar! There, see?" He nodded when Cedar looked over at him next. "Good job, Cedar!" They just needed to keep going on like that. Cedar at least knew that they seemed to be talking about him, if all those side eyes they were getting were any indication.
Kadin made his way back over to the pile of squash and the couple other things that he'd found so far. He carefully placed the berries with the rest of the loot from the venture so far. Now it was time to go wandering around to find yet more stuff. He headed out in the opposite directions from last time, still trying to keep close to More and Cedar so he could keep talking to them and keep appraised on Cedar's progress. He wandered along, taking his time, idly going through the various plants all around him, before spotting something yellow and droopy among the otherwise green of everything else. He brushed some leaves aside and found some weird flowers under all of them. He picked them carefully, examining them for a long moment before shrugging and putting them away for now. He didn't know what they were called, but there were three of them!

So that was just about half way towards being able to exchange them for pachee, which he was a bit excited about. He was never going to pass up the chance to get more pachee.
Mori huffed at that as well, rolling her eyes at Kadin. She knew that she was teasing her, but he was also teaching her, in his own way, at the same time. She wasn't sure if she appreciated it or not just yet, but she was going to let him get away with it for now. It's not like she'd be able to stop him even if he wanted to. "Very well. Cedar? Here." She said, smiling once the plant creature looked over and handing him a treat. Then she pointed at the plants they were working on. "Cedar, let's focus here next." She wanted to make sure to use his name in normal conversation so that he'd learn it properly, of course!
Kadin glanced over every now and then while he was still searching for more stuff. He smiled at how hard Mori was working on this, she really did seem to care. Every now and then he'd call over, too, you know. Just in case.

Just to make sure Cedar was responding properly to his name and not just to random words. "Cedar!" He'd call and praise him when he got it right. When he said something else, he wouldn't be getting a treat. Only when he responded to his name properly.
The flowers put away, Kadin continued out a bit further. Flowers didn't take up much space, after all, and he figured he'd be able to find more stuff if he just kept looking. So he made his way slowly through the garden, moving leaves out of the way here and there, to try and see what else he could find while he was wandering along. It took a while, but eventually his search was, well. Fruitful. He found something that, uh. It looked like it might be something valueable? But he wasn't super sure. It looked like a nut or a fruit or SOMETHING, but it was... fuzzy. Still, Kadin shrugged and put it into his pocket. Even if it turned out to be useless, he'd be able to try and feed it to one of the pets in his kennel, he was sure. There were so many pets in there, one of them must eat it.

They continued to use the evergreen's name in conversation just like that and, with time, he seemed to be picking it up well. It was different from the training Kadin was used to doing, but that didn't mean it was bad. Apparently evergreens were smart, anyway, and it would be a bit insulting to its intelligence to treat it like a houluh. It picked up its name more like it was a toddler or something, not quite as intelligent as a person, but with some recognizable similarities. Once they were done 'teaching' it its name, however, they were a bit at a loss of what to talk about next. Too many options, not enough ideas.
That settled, it was time to continue wandering around and looking for more stuff to gather up. Kadin continued his walk, keeping within talking distance of Cedar and Mori the whole time. He'd found so many different things so far, he couldn't help but wonder what he might find next. Or what he even wanted to find. He supposed that it might be interesting to find a pet out here, at some point, but he was also pretty content to just keep finding random bits of this and that.

After all, everything type of plant he found could potentially help create new types of pachee, so they were all really valuable to him. While considering this, Kadin couldn't help but noticed that there was something read among the green leaves of a plant. His first thought was strawberries, but the color wasn't quite right. So he went down to look and didn't find a strawberry after all. No, this was some sort of fruit and it was red, but instead of being a strawberry it was in the shape of a heart. Huh. Interesting.
"Do you think I should train Cedar some attacks?" Kadin wondered, glancing over at Mori to see what her opinion was. She shot him an unimpressed look and he grinned back, shrugging. She sighed, then looked at the evergreen in contemplation.
"Perhaps you can teach him how to use his natural gifts. The berries, for example. I'm sure there's a healing move that uses them. That might be useful." She advised, quite sensibly. Kadin was almost annoyed at how sensible it was, actually. He should have thought of that. He'd been training too many sarane if his first thought was to teach a freaking plant creature attacks.
