This one he had no intention of barreling over and destroying. At least, not destroying with pure physical strength. Instead, they were going to use an attack that had a much more sinister nature of damage. He directed Kimu to attack with, “Poison sting!”
The wiurn’s tail whipped forward, the sharpened tip digging deeply into the dummy. “Good!” Kadin praised, watching as Kimu removed his tail from the dummy, the tip still gleaming with the last of the poison from his tail.
Kadin directed him to a different dummy, asking another attack of him now, although it resembled the last one greatly. It was truly fascinating how some wiurn were about to use multiple types of venom with their tails. “Venom!”
Kimu growled to himself and lashed out again with his tail, envenomating the next dummy just as eagerly. This one didn’t cause quite so much physical damage, but the potent venom would have undoubtedly stronger effect if it had been a living creature.

This next attack Kimu knew was likely his most sinister. It was somewhat difficult to truly demonstrate on non-living beings, but he had brought in dummies that should act more like typical flesh than simple plastic or wooden ones. Hopefully the effect would be worth it. Kadin directed the wiurn towards yet another dummy, calling out, “Plague!”
The wiurn charged forward, touching the dummy with his seemingly constantly rotting forelimb. He did not scratch, rend, or tear at it. He only touched it. Then he backed away. The dummy stood there for a moment, seemingly the same, seemingly pristine. Then it started to crumble and rot away, the plague taking it away.
“Good!” Kadin praised, pleased with the effect that the special dummies had carried out. Still, there were a couple more things for them to show before they were truly done. After all, Kimu still had some moves that he knew, naturally, but had yet to be trained it. They could still attempt to demonstrate them.

Kadin directed Kimu to another dummy. This time, he didn’t give him a simple command to follow. Through the ribbon, he convinced the wiurn to lower his head and held up the dummy’s arm, tossing it into Kimu’s mouth. In surprise, the wiurn bit down, hard, neatly severing the arm from the dummy. With a slight grown he shook his head and spat the arm out.
Now Kadin needed to get him to preform once more attack. Through the ribbon, Kadin directed Kimu to stand back on his hind legs, spreading his wings into the air. He tossed some more balls towards his wings, but told him not to simply dodge out of the way of them. Not wanting his wings to get hit, obviously, Kimu hit them away with his wings, causing a stiff breeze to blow them across the arena.
“Good!” Kadin said, pleased. That was all that they needed to show off. All that they could show off, really. And they were done.

With the freak show out of the way Sevyrn still had one more job to do - to approach the vai min mur contest. It was another that she had never been a part of, though until the freak show she had never been part of a contest that wasn't about houlou at all.
She had been lucky, managing to find two bone familiars at the same time - Noctus and Boneregard, as she had named them. One black and one white, with the white one ambling about around her as they waited for their turn on the stage. It... was not the smartest thing. Hopefully it would behave like the other had, see the audience as something to be intimidated... Sevyrn hadn't even needed to instruct Noctus to be a little creepy for her.
Their turn came, and she walked along towards center stage with the familiar trailing behind her, turning the bright orange orbs that made up its eyes towards the audience as soon as the light hit him. It growled and lashed it's boney tail around, head sunk low as it saw the others as a threat. It wouldn't dare go after them, though - people were much bigger than he was, his best bet for safety was intimidation.
"This is Boneregard," Sevyrn introduced as the bone familiar played defensively, lifeless gaze scanning the audience. "Lifeless eyes, not a speck of flesh to his body. If anyone dares to hurt him..." She reached towarda the bone familiar, and wrenched his wrist backwards. It killed her to do, but she knew his capabilities. "... he is capable of shifting his own bones back in to shape to heal himself."
The familiar's bones rattled and creaked against each other as his wrist rolled back in to perfect place.
[Done. Boneregard is lifeless, and uses bone shift on his own will. Male poison dart orbaru, please.]

This contest sure was popular. That was what Aster was thinking as he walked into the ring with Nightshade in tow. There were plenty of spectators... and also plenty of participants. The din, not to mention the general oppressive energy of their presence, was giving him a headache. Nightshade seemed unperturbed, except in the capacity of concern for Aster's sake. For the purpose of keeping the Wiurn calm and on task, Aster tried to master his own emotions. He closed his eyes, then took a deep breath. "Let's just get this over with," he murmured to Nightshade, then motioned for the Wiurn to stay where he was before walking out to the ring. Nightshade didn't know the command formally, but he had enough practice interpreting Aster's body language to more or less puzzle out what he wanted. Once Aster took center stage, the lights in the arena dimmed, until there was only a single spotlight on him. (Male Orbaru please)

He looked out at the crowd, and grimaced a bit at what he was about to do. Rhys had gotten wind that he was participating in another contest, and had insisted on helping out... which had included drafting a script. It was.. well, probably more appropriate for these events than what Aster had been doing, but gods' graces, it was embarrassing to have to say this stuff.
"Ladies," he said stiffly. "Gentlemen. People of other..." What was the word Rhys had used? "... inclinations. If you're here for a fright, you've come to the right place."
When he was finished with this, he was going to curl up in his room and just not come out for three straight days. Already his fingers were cramping with the beginnings of embarrassment. "I hope no one here is afraid of the dark," Aster went on. "Today you'll meet the stuff of nightmares. You might not be able to see him, but he can see you."

He signaled for Nightshade to come forward into the ring now, and moving the mic away from himself, Aster gave the Wiurn a command. The thudding footsteps reverberated throughout the space as Nightshade approached, and a moment later, the unnerving sound of laughter filled the air. It was nominally similar to a human laugh, but the timbre was all wrong, with a resonance that could only be produced from a Wiurn's much deeper chest.
Under Aster's subtle guidance, Nightshade walked a circuit of the ring, then stopped just behind Aster. Another pause, another command signal - and this time Nightshade lit a target near the edge of the ring, which burst into vivid violet flames.
And then another torch went up, and another, and another, until the edges of the stage were fully illuminated with flickering torches bearing the unnatural, sinister-looking fire.
Aster murmured another command, and Nightshade gave a bellowing roar.

The lights went up just then, because there was no point in what they were about to do next if no one could see what was happening. Aster thought Nightshade probably made a good showing of it, being massive and strange-looking, with a frill of what could only be dubbed tendrils framing his face. It was a pity that Aster hadn't taught him to be more menacing, but who in the crowd knew enough about Wiurns to tell a calm one from a fierce one?
"Once he sets his sight on you, that's the end," Aster said, still reciting Rhys's dramatic script from memory. He wasn't doing a very good job of selling it, but theatrics really weren't his thing. "And just in case you get any ideas about running away..." Once more, Aster murmured away from the mic, giving Nightshade a different command to perform as he pointed out a target dummy.

At once, Nightshade focused on the dummy, and the stakes floating along his spine flew out in a stream, encircling the target for a moment before striking into the body all at once. It looked violent, but Aster knew from practice that they weren't corporeal, and the effect wasn't necessarily always a physical restraint.
Still, it made for an impressive display, moreso when Nightshade approached it with the slow, deliberate pace of a predator closing in on its prey.
Aster gave Nightshade the command to bite, and Nightshade bit down, darkness issuing from his jaws as he did. Aster was about to make some closing statements when Nightshade, moving of his own accord, swung his tail stinger at the dummy, injecting it with what was probably poison. Aster blinked for a moment, then decided to improvise. "If the stakes don't get you, then the poison will, and that's when he'll go in for the kill."

To his credit, Nightshade was doing a pretty good job of savaging that dummy. Aster wondered if maybe he needed a little more enrichment, but on this occasion it worked out for them. Clearing his throat, Aster went on. "So be careful if you decide to take a walk around town at night. You never know what might be lurking."
With that, he called Nightshade to him once again. The Wiurn left the tattered dummy behind, and once he had reached Aster's side, Aster gave him the command to bow. Nightshade dipped his front half low, and Aster made a stiff, awkward bow of his own. Then, the two of them walked off stage together.
... That was that. It was over. Aster felt as though he had never said anything cheesier in his entire life, but at least now he could go home and never think about this ever again.

Ezra Level: 0 Loyalty: 2 Stamina: 3 Strength: 4 Resistance: 2 Dexterity: 6 Mentality: 5 Special Abilities: Natural Antivenom, Shadow Immunity, Light Weakness Moves: Bound, Wither, Screech Oh my. There were quite a few amazing and terrifying beasts here today! Ashe was envious of them all - even the bone familiar he'd seen haunting the mansion, and he had a couple of those himself! He wished he had had time to train Ezra a little bit, make her formidable, but there was no way he could compete with the legendary Kimu no matter what he taught Ezra. So he decided to treat this as a show and tell, nothing else expected. Have fun with it. "Let's go, Ezra," ashe said softly, and the little lerrel pony followed after him. She was a strange little thing, born from the love two creatures shared. While Mercy may not be in people love with Death, they were certainly inseparable and sweet on each other. And Ezra was the result. "This is Ezra. She is an equillion and a lerrel crossbreed. Strange and mysterious, with large bat ears, a long tongue... and look at these legs!" for there was definitely something off about them. Not quite equillion.... He led her around, showing her off, and pointing out things that he found amazing about her. As she warmed up to the crowd, she started to do a little skip hop, bounding with an eerie grace, inherited from her pure mother. She bounded along, catching on the small halter Ashe had on her, and kicked up her heels. But suddenly, something in the crowd flashed. Was it a camera? Or something reflective? Whatever it was, it scared Ezra and she let out a screech that could pierce metal. Eerie and out of this world, but so loud! "I think that's our cue..." and Ashe ushered her out of the ring. [Ezra uses bound and screech, neither on command] [Male poison dart orbaru please] c

In short order, it seems they were up. A few contestants had passed through the ring so far, but the sphinx was far busier behind stage keeping Tharèus focused on the task. The task being that he wasn't allowed to wander off and cause mayhem and destructions by finding things to turn into toys, usually furniture and other decorations. As the line got closer to the stage and the curtain was in their sight, she was perpetually keeping his attention on the shiny yellow orb with occasional uses of Push floating it through the air, as the half-breed circled around her, fixed on slowly chasing it.
Then, it was their turn and she directed the orb to hover to the arena, Tharèus following in turn dutifully excited.
Out of the presenters so far, the pumequin had to have been the most colourful to trot over to the arena, heavy thumps signalling his weight and bulk as each footfall caused reverberations.. and yet, for all the visual appearances, there was a lightness to it that was unexpected - His footfalls made noise, to be sure, but for the gaps and holes visible on his limbs, with bone showing through, it seemed he might be a bit more "hollow"than usual.

The peculiarities weren't just constrained to that and it was the sphinx's job to show just how odd the half-breed could be. Sure, he wasn't very 'melt-on-command' type weird, or filled with shadows, but there was a fire within (Somewhere). For starters, the sphinx lead the half-breed on a slow lap around the arena, focusing hard to guide the orb as to best make Tharèus do a nice circle. The idea was to show him off on all sides, so judge and spectator alike could inspect him as needed.
She then moved to the middle arena, still moving the orb with another Push, and raised it slightly higher, to make it be out of his biting range. The half-breed stopped in front of the crowd, between her and the judges and sat back, head craning higher as he rumbled happily. It was enough of a moment for her to begin.
"Good day, everyone!" Darky greeted the crowd, a little awkward for a beginning, but getting better about it, as she took a small bow. "Today I would like to present to you Tharèus." As she gestures towards the half-breed, his head moves to recognize the name and rise to a stand again, paying attention. "He is a mixture of Tainted Equillion and Baenarch Chelcauda, with the fiery and shadowy affinity of both parents to match." The orb lowers again, to circle around him and make him do a small spin on the spot. "Unfortunately, much like his parents, he also has a weakness for the light, not that it has ever particularly concerned him," she smiles, as the half-breed happily stops again, looking to her.

"Unlike his Tainted parents, Tharèus can be quite mild-mannered," and she moves backwards to the edge of the arena, slowing lowering the orb to hide behind a piece of stage while the pumequin's attention is on her. Then, there's a beckoning motion with a "Tharèus, come!" and the half-breed slowly lumbers towards her. "While his form does have skeletal parts, in particular to the limbs and the spikes along the neck, then Tharèus here is very much still alive and kicking." The half-breed walks up to her, head moving to nudge into her, while the weight of the body is put behind it. It wasn't that he didn't know his own strength, but rather than he assumed everything else had it too, and so him having it a little bit more wasn't really his fault (Thus, things being broken because of said strength, likewise, not being his fault).
The sphinx palm comes up to show flat in front of his face, and there's a stern, "Tharèus, no.." The pumequin considers a moment, wondering if to be stubborn, before there's a grunt and a snort, and he backs up, giving her space. "As you can see, he has a very playful streak, but it can get a little dangerous without establishing proper boundaries first. Not to worry, as Tharèus here is fortunately very open to co-operation." When he feels like it, but that's beside the point.

Darky moves to the side, palm still directed towards the half-breed. In many other cases it could have been seen as a notion to Stay, though the half-breed was fidgeting much too much for it to properly count. But it was a lead-up to their next thing. "Tharèus.. down.." and her hand matches his eye level, before slowly descending lower. As it does, the pumequin's head slowly follows it, eyes latched on like it's almost as mesmerizing as the sphere had been just a short while ago. Finally, she stops as his head reaches the floor, front of the body lowered to the ground into a bow. "Good, Tharèus," she more stage whispers to him, smiling and removing the hand. Immediately, the half-breed stands up again and begins to look around for something to play with.
The problem with his attention span was it tended to respond to one of two things: food and toys. And given there was no food, his brain was looking for the next best thing. Before he could get too far in the quest, the sphinx pulled out the short rod at her side and unwound the bat from it, letting it hang loose on the string. "Although he has many instincts from his equillion parentage, he still has some from the chelcauda side as well, as shown here." She approached and began to move the bat around through the air, letting the string cause it to flutter. Immediately the pumequin's attention was focused entirely on it, and his head began to move after it. Slowly it starts to match the looping, but otherwise erratic movements, until finally the neck extends suddenly to snatch the bat out of the skies, biting down on it.
