It was time for another shop visit, though this one would not be quite the same as Zenjesi's other trips to market. Usually it was a simple journey - in with a list and out with items - but this time, it was a bit more complicated. They needed help. They had been on a wooded walk with Shadow. Their back had been turned for the matter of a minute or two while they observed a strange insect, and when they turned back, they found she had managed to cover herself in pine cones and, of course, the accompanying sap. The cones had been quick enough to remove but the sap was another matter entirely.
Naturally, they were now entering the 'Salon and Groomery'. As usual, they tended to review the layout of the building before seeking out people, so it took them a moment to realize... "Kristofor." They stopped short, holding a very sticky puppy and feeling twice as nervous as just a moment before. Now, their gaze was averted out of shame and embarrassment. Many words bounced around in their mind, but only a few actually made it past their lips. "I am sorry."

Kristofor is counting. A clipboard in one hand, a pencil in the other, he's counting his remaining product. If any has been used it wasn't very common. Finally, he closes the shampoo cabinet, one paw slightly sticky from the driblets on a few bottles. That's the last of it. He hears footsteps, and not of the four pawed variety, usually that's the sound of his hounds romping roughly above his head. But the cold weather found the animals piling together for warmth, with less running about. At least the floor was slightly warmer then the stones outside. Perhaps its a customer? Stashing his clipboard and pencil, the fox brushes his pawpad on the brown apron around his waist, dressed with an extra layer against the cold. His fur is thicker now, still heavily tipped in blonde, it'll come out at the slightest pull. "Welcome-" he steps out from behind the curtain...and sees...oh right. Zenjee. He sees them, their black houlou puppy. Sorry? What for? No matter. "Good to see you again Zenjee. What brings you to my shop today?"

An unusually long silence followed Kristofor's question as Zenjesi struggled to understand what was happening. He... was not angry? Or sad? Or... even scared? Their eyes turned back up to him. He seemed to be perfectly content, simply going about his business. But their last conversation had ended so abruptly... The satyr had been agonizing over their question. They should have known not to ask. Their mother had always told them they were not good with boundaries. But if Kristofor wished to speak of the shop now, then so would they. " I did not know you had a shop," they began. " It... smells nice." There was another momentary pause as they appreciated the location anew, now that they were aware it was a friend's creation. It was clean and tidy, both of which seemed like good omens for a salon. And then they recalled the question they were asked. " Ah, Shadow." They set the houluh pup on the counter, and one hand peeled off with an audible sticky noise. " Sap." Dutifully, they filled out one of the salon forms. Despite their verbal disorganization, their handwriting was was surprisingly elegant.

"I've been working in this shop for a while now after I moved here." Kristofor listens as he watches. Zenjee looks ill at ease. He thinks back briefly, for their first meeting, but it doesn't explain why THEY should be upset. "Thank you, I'm pretty particular about what I purchase for soaps and shampoos. Pets and customers with a stronger sense of smell can walk in without being flattened by a strong scent." He's had that happen before. He takes a few steps forward, head tilted to see Shadow. The audible sticky sound, and the thick goopiness shining on the black fur. "Oh dear, you're quite a mess there Shadow." Fishing under the countertop, he produces a jar of treats, watching Zenjee fill out the form. "Pine is a good smell for this time of year. Does she have any allergies?" From previous encounters with sap himself as a cub, his aunt or his father using egg and oil mix to get the sap out. "Sap is stubborn, it might take me a while to get it out. Are you wanting to wait for her?"

The form completed, Zenjesi attempted to set the pen down and found to their dismay that it too was adhered to their hand with the very same sap. They shook it once, then twice, a bit more desperately. The pen finally flew free, disappearing with a few clattering noises underneath some furniture behind them. They froze, only able to offer Kristofor a thin-lipped smile. They decided not to address the mishap. They could seek it out once Kristofor was busy.
"No... allergies," they informed him, with a small shake of their head. "Yes, I will wait." There was a brief pause before a sudden thought came to them, and then they shook their head again. "No. I will go. How long...?"
Meanwhile, Shadow now seemed to recognize Kristofor. Her tail began a slow, lazy wag as she sat down on the counter, leaning forward to sniff at the mammalian and the treats he was presenting. Carefully, Zenjesi pried their other hand off of the houluh. "I will return soon," they assured both she and Kristofor. "Good luck."
