Finally, after quite a bit more work, Renathan managed to get the claw mostly out of the carrier stone. It was still connected at the back end, but he had uncovered enough of it at this point that he was sure it was a claw and not a tooth. It was a great claw, like that of a sarane's but he knew that it could not possible be that of a sarane, seeing as they were recently created by the labs and all, at least on a geological time scale. Renathan picked it up between two of his claws and carefully turned it one way and then the other underneath his flashlight, curiously watching as the light bounced off of the smooth surface of the fossil, all while covered in the horrid craggy surface of the rougher carrier stone. Behind him, Sarabi worked about as diligently as he had been just a moment earlier.

Renathan could really get used to this. Of course, he hadn't been able to go mining for a long time due to how busy he was with his job, but at the very least he had been able to come back now and again for about an hour at a time. It was almost not worth the amount of time it took to get ready for a mining trip, and it certainly wouldn't be if he wasn't pretty good about keeping the stuff for mining altogether and cleaned whenever he could. It made for an easier time popping by whenever he got a quick break from work to grab his stuff and Sarabi to go. She seemed much happier whenever he was mining at least, so he was willing to try more often than he normally would have had just for her sake alone... Though he did enjoy it every now and again too.

Though it was peaceful and quiet here for now, that same peace and quiet made everything much harder as well. For one, Renathan was always on edge. He knew that at any minute, something dangerous might occur down in these mines. He'd seen it all before in the news and also some of it had happened to him a time or two as well. Luckily, Renathan had never gotten hurt himself in a rockslide or perhaps even in any of the fast-flowing rivers down here (he had the sense to get out when his gut feelings started to show up), but he had seen and encountered sarane down here as well... That time with Lisle had been a nightmare. He hoped nothing like that would happen again. However, the quiet did give him time to think, and thinking was NOT what he wanted to do right now. At least Sarabi didn't really have to deal with these thoughts that he did.

Recently Renathan had began to think of the real consequences of the battles that he had in the pit with his beloved Shy Guy. He hadn't been able to look at the equillion straight since the whole ordeal. He'd been hoping to take him to the contest hall a few times to show off how well trained he was, but that had not really panned out at all. Even worse, Shy Guy kept looking at him funny. It was an odd way to describe it, but he seemed frustrated with Renathan that they hadn't went out riding like they used to. Renathan -loved- that stallion, but he just... He wasn't able to come to terms with that loss. It had nearly killed Shy Guy. Not hurt him, not knocked him down, KILLED him. Renathan blamed himself, and was sure that he'd never come to terms with it. He finally heard the soothing sounds of Sarabi working though, and that brought him out of it.

Sarabi continues working, and Renathan gets back to working on the claw from where he had stopped a bit before while he was thinking about that horrible thing that he had been thinking about earlier. The truth was that he could easily just feed the equillion forever for the rest of his life and never really do anything else with him, and it would be a horrible shame. Shy Guy loved adventure, or really being able to do anything at all. It was a horrible thing to do to him. Renathan considered this as he finally removed the rest of the carrier stone from the great claw fossil, and looked over it fondly. It was an adorable find, if not an overtly useful one. Suddenly, Sarabi stops scrabbling at the rock behind him, and instead makes a strange chirrup noise to catch his attention. Renathan smoothly stands and then turns around to see what she found.

She's found a great hoard!

Sarabi had found a bundle of something or another, and the russet mammalian couldn't help but be quite excited to see what she had. He moved over with quiet footsteps, and looked over her shoulder to see what she had. "Oh, look at that!" Renathan said, smiling beneath the mask at her. Sarabi looks up with a surprisingly smug look on her face- as if to say 'see, you'd find nothing without me.' Of course, Renathan would not have doubted that in the slightest. She was always much better at finding things than he was, and pretty much better at digging them out too. It really did make sense, she had come from the mines, after all. He couldn't boast any sort of credential that would equal that. He was proud of her. "Doing great, let me see what you've got." He said to her, giving her a pat on the shoulder.

It was a pretty nice hoard. A pink crystal, too sharp to use for nodes, was at the very top of the pile. It was always a little disappointing to get one of those. Perhaps they had a use that he had yet to find out about? He decides to pocket this one, or rather, put it into a pouch nearby. Then, he looked down at the little group again to see what else there was to be found in her little hoard. That was what it had to be, wasn't it? He'd found ex-hoards in the past, or rather, lost hoards of other mine-dwelling creatures. He couldn't help but wonder why they hoarded gems like this. Perhaps it was for the nutrients? Humanoids couldn't really derive nutrients from them, but undoubtedly creatures like Sarabi (his stalwart mining companion at this point) could indeed. That was the only thing that really made sense.

Renathan could see another piece sparkling there- a little shining marquise stone. It was as black as night and shimmered like the night sky- a truly remarkable find. Perhaps he would find another, at some point? He really doubted that- but sometimes he found some rather interesting things. Most of the time, he brought home geodes. He felt like he had a ton of geodes in the past. Hopefully, he wouldn't find another geode for a long time. He picks this up too, turning the marquise stone carefully over in his hand. "See this, Sarabi?" He says, smiling at her beneath the mask. She huffs at him, obviously knowing what it was already. She was beginning to 'get' what he meant a little easier than she had before. "Fine then." Renathan said, swatting playfully at her. "I will keep it. Say, what else did you find?"

The next piece that caught his attention was a blue stone. The bright color varied over the entire thing, but there wasn't really anything that the russet mammalian could liken the color too. He couldn't really even remember anything like that- it was quite beautiful. He was sure that something like this would make gorgeous jewelry- but with the workshop closed down, it was unlikely to ever become that. Perhaps he should sell it, in the future. He looked over it with a sad expression on his face beneath the mask, but pocketed it along with the marquise stone anyway. Sarabi looks at the mammalian with an interesting expression on her own face that Renathan couldn't tell what meant. He was such an enigma, with moods that changed as smoothly as the weather, but quite tended towards melancholy more so often than usual. She understood this in a very non-human way.

Sarabi huffs as her mammalian goes through her hoard. He was useful in some ways, but not exactly the fastest. She would go find another hoard, or something else of use, while he was scrambling around. When she turns away, she picks up a personal prize of hers, one that she had hidden away from him and that he would never get. She loved this particular kind of a stone, and intended upon eating it. That was the price that Renathan would pay to have her finding most of the stones. She got the choice and most delicious ones, and he was going to have to be stuck with the lest desirable ones. She chews the geode in peace away from him, taking care to be silent. She knew that if he heard her, he would probably make a fuss about it. She didn't want to have to fight him over this.

It doesn't take long for Renathan to find another piece of the hoard, within the small amount of rubble that made up what he was sure was the abandonned nest. What had abandoned it? The mammalian had no idea when he first was concerned about it. It was a smaller kind of nest, so certainly nothing like the great sized wyrm that lived beneath the earth that he had heard about. No, it had to be something quite small. He puzzled this was he picked up the next piece of the hoard that was neat- this time it was a tiny red gemstone, as red as blood. He knew what this was- this was a garnet. It was much darker than a ruby, so that had to be it. He pockets it without much thought as to what would be done with it. Red wasn't a color he often made jewelry in the palette for. He thought he heard crunching behind him- but Sarabi was back there. Probably looking for more gems.

The mammalian continued to rummage around in the abandoned nest, checking through bits and bobs of useless carrier stone that undoubtedly made a good nest at one point for an unfortunate creature. He moved the bits and pieces out of the rubble that were not of any use to him until he found a slightly heavier piece of carrier stone. As a person that had done a lot of mining, he knew exactly what it was without even thinking about it much- it was an ore of some kind. He turns it over in his leathery palm, curiously. It was indeed an ore, he could see the shining metal glint on the opposite side of the stone. "Nice." He said, hissing out the end of it with excitement. The chewing noise stops behind him, and once again he thinks nothing of it. He continues his search after pocketing the ore.

Renathan did not know it at first, but he finally found the final piece that he was going to get out of this abandoned nest today. Perhaps they would find another abandoned nest at some point? It would be incredibly beneficial to them. He had a few things he was looking specifically for today, and he didn't find any of those things in this particular nest. He pulls the coveted full amber out of the nest and turns it over in a palm. Yes, it very obviously has some kind of a bug thing in it. What a neat find- if he had another, he heard that there was a museum that would take them and somehow revive them. Not even the individuals in his homeland would be able to do that- what a neat bit of technology! Sarabi sniffs around at the walls, now that she had finished her geode snack.

Renathan pocketed the little amber after having a chuckle about it, and then continued to try to find anything of interest in the (depleted- not that he knew) abandoned nest. After digging around fruitlessly, he finally sighs, and leaves the abandoned nest as it was. He didn't want to completely destroy it- another creature could come in and try to find something of use in it, perhaps another creature would completely take it over? He sure hoped that he didn't find a whole ton of creatures today, but then again- it wouldn't be absolutely terrible. He could always break down anything he found, even if it would slow him down a tad to try to catch it.
He had a goodly amount of time to do things today, so he figured they might as well take advantage of it. He turns to Sarabi, grinning beneath the mask. "Well, that is everything there."
