The stallion finishes up his apple and then watches the mammalian with large blue moon-like eyes. He knew that this meant that the training would continue, whatever it was that he was trying to get him to do. Renathan leans forward, and says something again; the stallion pays close attention to that noise; as it would win him more apples. "Ritz it up!" Then, he tapped the stallion's rump again, not too hard but just enough to spook him. The stallion did that same stiff-legged jump; with the tail flared up in a flashy; spooky kind of way. Renathan figured that it would definitely have startled him if he'd been planning an attack and the stallion lept up suddenly like that! Renathan is quick to reward the stallion with a tiny piece of pink apple for the trouble, and a good strong pet on the nose. The stallion seemed overjoyed this time; but was just as scared.

Renathan hoped that pretty soon he'd stop having to utilize the pole smack to get the stallion to do the behavior, but at least the stallion was performing the behavior properly. Renathan was definitely glad that he didn't have to get on the back end of the equillion himself; so that he didn't have to contend with any sharp kicks. The stallion stands there, eating it's apple piece happily. Renathan was glad that the anxiety seemed to have melted off of the equillion rather quickly after that quick tap with the pole; Renathan almost felt bad for using it; but reminded himself that equillion purposefully had a dense skin; it was sensitive, but quite hardy. Renathan allows the stallion to eat his treat in peace for a moment before giving him a pat on the muzzle to convey that he was not upset with the stallion, and that he was doing a great job with the training.

Renathan makes sure that the stallion is feeling okay before continuing on with the training, this time going around to the other side of the stallion so as not to hurt his flank. The stallion is wary of this; but Renathan can feel the trust radiating off of the animal. Once again, his stomach nearly slips inside out at the thought of that; he really didn't like the feeling of the emotional link that a lot of the labs creatures could form with their person. He then saw the stallion watching him attentively again, as if he knew that they were working on something. Renathan smiled at the stallion, and decided to use the pole at least one more time as a training aid before he stopped and tried to change over to just the verbal command. Renathan calls out; "Ritz it up!" and then he tapped the stallion carefully on the rump on this new side.

The stallion had already began to perform the stotting motion with all of his legs locked just before Renathan had struck his hindquarters gently; but the touch spooked him into performing it with more gusto; his tail flying up and fanning out in a surprising display of flash. That was certainly perfect; exactly like that! Renathan watches as the equillion nuzzles his shoulder after he landed again. Renathan had experienced a lot less fear from the equillion now that the training had progressed, and that was certainly great! Renathan fished him out another piece of apple from his pouch, and let the stallion have time to savor the tiny piece of apple. Renathan stretched his back, as it had began to hurt. He felt like he was coming down with a cold, perhaps? His body ached and his nose was running. It did that every time the stupid weather changed! He tried not to let his poor spirits leak on to the stallion.

Renathan felt as if they'd hit the halfway mark now, on this bit of training. He was glad for that, because he was beginning to feel a bit feverish too; even though the air was chilly that morning and was making him quite cold. He pats the stallion on the nose again with one hand whenever he finished with the piece of apple, and then he stood there for a moment, watching the stallion be super attentive to him while he was honestly just a bit under the weather. It had hit him suddenly, so he hoped he'd make it home later. He would finish this training; for now. "Ritz it up!" He called out, and the stallion knew, just knew that he was supposed to be doing something or another. After a moment of what could have easily have been 'thought' the stallion makes the straight-legged jump, but not the flared tail that made the tactic convincing.

Renathan wasn't sure what to do at this point. He picks up the equillion's tail carefully, and fanned it out. He was thankful that he'd already gotten the troublesome tolerance training out of the way, so that he could do this without startling the creature. He fanned out the tail just so, and then he petted the stallion and gave him a teeny, tiny bit of apple. His disappointment had been apparent to the equillion from the get-go, and that made the equillion think; what had he done wrong? The stallion's gears are turning once again, and Renathan is standing there letting him think. After a moment, the stallion seems to relax. "Ritz it up!" He called out again; and the stallion once again performed the stiff-legged hop; this time moving his tail up into a nearly-fanned position... That was fine. Renathan gives the stallion a small pink apple piece afterwards, and pets him on the muzzle. Yes, that was it. He tried to pass this along emotionally, if possible.

The stallion was definitely a quick learner, and that was good. The stallion eats his slightly larger bit of apple and then looks at Renathan again, attentively and with those bright blue and pale eyes that were almost striking against his dark brown coat. Renathan allows the stallion to finish up, and then pets his muzzle carefully, and then along the Stallion's shoulder absentmindedly. They stood there for a moment as Renathan tried desperately to stave off his headache. The stallion nuzzles his head, and licks him between the eyes on his mask. Renathan shakes his head, but allows it. Renathan then backs up, and begins giving the command again; "Ritz it up!" He calls out, and the stallion quickly stotts up into the air; flashing his tail quite a bit better this time; since that seemed to him to be like what Renathan had been wanting from him all along.

The stallion lands from his aerial maneuver gracefully, and Renathan could not have been happier with it; though his happiness was damped by his obvious sickness. He pets the stallion's shoulder and muzzle, and then gives him a good sized chunk of the crisp new pink apple. He was glad that they were making process, and it was obviously leaching over into the stallion's emotions too, he could almost feel the pride doubled between them, and that was almost too much to bear to begin with. Renathan calms himself down while watching the stallion eat the apple, and then he pets the creature again. He murmurs a little bit, and his fur is certainly showing feverish, he could feel the heat between his forehead and his mask. Good thing the day was nearly over, he decides! The stallion finishes his apple rather quickly, and then nuzzles the sick Renathan for support with gentility.

Renathan is once again surprised with how his and the stallion's working relationship had gotten so much more improved than the original attack that he had to endure almost every day. Thankfully Renathan was a skilled fighter; having gone up against a sarane before himself and lived to tell the tale; so he had tumbled away from the stallion's abuse nearly every time that he'd been forced to endure it. He was thankful that they were past that now; though it had been a huge journey to begin with. Renathan pets the stallion's mane carefully with his hands, and decides that he is glad that he finally gave the stallion a bath about a week ago; he still smelled so much better that it was definitely a relief. He steps back away from the stallion, and smiles in a painful way beneath his mask. He's going to work on this a couple of more times, and then he's going to go home and get some rest.

The mammalian stands there for a moment with his head cradled in one of his palms, and then he decides to get this over with despite the horrid headache. "Ritz it up!" He calls out again, and then struggles to watch as the stallion makes his move. The stallion leaps up; stiff-legged in a great show of how strong he was and agile, as well as fit. Then, he fans out his tail at the same time; not skipping a beat. The tail fan is certainly super long and fluffy; it made him look ton bigger. Renathan figured that if timed right; it could stun any predator into not hitting him, at least in that moment. Renathan is quite joyful despite his sickness, and pets the stallion on it's shoulders and muzzle as soon as he comes down. Then he begins digging around in his pouch for the half of the pink apple he had in there, just for the stallion.

Renathan is able to find the piece of pink apple treat, although quite slowly this time. The stallion was patient with him, perhaps sensing that all was not well with Renathan, and was honestly more interested in him than he was in the treat to be sure. Still, whenever Renathan pushes the treat towards his muzzle he eats it quickly, and nuzzles Renathan's back carefully. As if trying to move him. He pushes Renathan over to the fence with a surprising gentleness, and then watches as the man leans on it gratefully. "Ritz it up." Renathan calls out, one final time that day. The stallion quickly performs as asked; leaping in a stotting fashion in the air and then fanning out his tail at the same time. This actually baffled Renathan a little bit; before he remembered what was going on! Renathan gave him the entire pink apple, and then allows him over into the other corral before leaving. He would hopefully be back to train more whenever he felt better.

Today was going to be an exhausting day, and Renathan knew it. He was sick today, but wasn't running a fever as badly as he had two days ago. He'd been nearly too ill to get out of bed, but had just barely managed to go to work in the gemstone workshop anyway. He had fed his creatures but had not done any training for any of them that day; he just wanted to lay around during his downtime, which was what he wound up doing. He wondered if being in such close proximity to the stallion was making him sick; but he didn't want to believe it. Instead; he decides that it would be best to quickly train the stallion in the skill he'd been the most dreading; dodging that vital first strike in combat. It was just impossible; fighting without that skill. He'd work on other, smaller things after this; but if they were going to continue; this could not wait.

Most creatures could never hope to master this sort of thing as quickly as some of his sarane had; but sarane were bred and born to fight like war machines. Equillion were more created to be mounts, but any mount that Renathan would be working with would certainly need some intense battle training; just in case. Renathan had always been nervous; since his people were nearly wiped out by another just a few generations before him, so he knew that sometimes war just happened. Renathan had hoped that the city would not see war after he was here; and so far it hadn't. But rumors of wars had circulated, of course. Renathan had been standing at the fence watching the stallion sleep for some time now; and he felt less afraid of the stallion randomly waking now. He carefully creeps over the fence carrying his equipment; a ball throwing machine. He sets it up not too far away from the sleeping equillion.

Renathan had been wondering how he was going to do this for a while; he didn't want the equillion to think that he was abusing him by throwing stick and rocks at him; like he typically did with his sarane. Once again, sarane were vicious predator animals that often fought for dominance among themselves; all they knew was dominance and brutality. Equillion were different; they were plant-eating for the most part, and skittish animals at worst. He sure as all get out did not want to associate himself with bad things. So, he sets the machine to detect movement, and then loads it full of tons of the really light thin plastic balls that would pop; but make a loud noise when they hit. Not too loud really, just disruptive. Then, he quietly sneaks off with the button to turn it on in his hand, and stands on the other side of the fence. He was about to wreak some havoc, and he really felt kind of bad.

He was not looking forward to performing this part of the training; but he knew that for any longevity out in the battlefield, it had to be done. Renathan takes a deep breathing, swallows, and pushes the button. For a moment, all is well. The spring sunlight filters onto the ground through a few cumulus clouds in the sky. His sniffle from the cold he had could be heard perhaps only by small bugs in the soft breeze. The grass sways with a rhythmic sound. Then; it is like the maw of hell breaks loose. The stallion is awoke to a single ball landing soundlessly near the ground at his hooves. He blinks, and looks up and around, trying to figure out where it had come from. Then another; this one makes him jump up from his seated position on the ground; he'd been in a rare laying-down sleep for him. Renathan holds his breath.
