It is just beginning to get warm again whenever Renathan finds himself leaning against a fence in the park, looking in to one of the many small corrals sometimes kept for equillion and other creatures that had the instinct to run at first. He is chewing on a piece of beef jerky and simply thinking on exactly how he was going to do this. He was not used to working with creatures that were as volatile as this one that weren't meat eaters. He didn't exactly understand what made Shy Guy tick; so it was certainly going to be difficult to train him; Renathan was more of a method trainer; he liked to get into the mindset of the animal he was training in order to understand how best to tackle situations. That being said; Shy Guy was to other pure equillion what a wild vulticus was to a domestic vulticus it seemed. Even now, the stallion was in the center of the field, staring straight at him with a slightly lowered horn. Renathan hops the fence, and then gives a low wolf-whistle. Then he pulls a crisp apple from his pocket and holds it out. Now he would begin.

The stallion is certainly interested in the apple; apples were not a food item that was given to the stallion every day. Especially since the stallion tended to bite, and it had a strong bacterial venom of some sort that Renathan obviously didn't know a goodly amount about. However, Renathan was still on the other side of the fence, and that was how Shy Guy preferred it. Shy Guy had no interest in being tamed, whatsoever. He had an almost ingrained interest in Renathan, but otherwise was not agreeable. Renathan once again wolf-whistles, and raises his hand with the crisp green apple cupped. The light of the midday gleams across the apple, and Renathan can see that the stallion certainly has both eyes on the treat in question. After a moment, the equillion begins picking his slow way across the soft spring grass. Renathan's heart was already pounding; this creature was notoriously foul-tempered among his creatures.

Renathan keeps both eyes on the stallion as he steps across the field. He was attempting to read the creature's body language, which appeared to be guarded at best. The equillion had his head lowered the whole way, pointing his dangerous horn at the offending humanoid. Renathan had faced dragon-like beasts with claws almost a foot long; but the look of that horn (easily as long as his forearm!) was still enough to make him swallow. The equillion was quick and had a strange gait; in which his front and hind seemed to take more of the weight than his back did. He had not seen a mount creature that moved like the strange pure; but the pure equillion also had a strange abnormal body-type that was also particularly striking to begin with. The equillion stops closer to him, but still a goodly ways away. Renathan waits for a moment, and then wolf-whistles yet again. He moves his hand, making the apple catch light once more. The equillion had never moved his eyes away from it anyway.

The stallion began walking towards him again, flicking it's long and curly tail; which was unkempt due to him not allowing Renathan to get near enough to him to actually brush it. It's head was lowered and tended to bob as it walked. Soon, the stallion had picked up speed to what could have easily had been a trot if it had not been for the strangely even gait. Renathan stands stark still, leaned over the fence, with his hand outstretched. After a moment, the stallion broke out into one of the fastest runs the mammalian had seen; his head lowered. Renathan thought this would be a half-charge, but was entirely wrong. Renathan just barely makes it out of the way just as the equillion's horn impales the shoddy wood of the fence; all the way to the equillion's head. Renathan blinks, breathing hard, staring at the beast from behind his mask. Well, this was just peachy, indeed.

At first Renathan was afraid that the stallion would be unable to remove his horn; at first he shook his head, or rather attempted to. However, the creature seemed uncannily witty; it backed up just the way it pushed in; and was able to easily slip his dangerously sharp horn from the rotten wood. He then shakes his head, and leans his head over the fence, snapping his flat teeth at Renathan. Renathan swallows, and then walks forward again, closer to the stallion despite it's rather strangely angry demeanor. The stallion lays his ears back, and lets forth what could only be explained as a violin and a softer trumpet mixed. Renathan stands for a moment in one place, perplexed. Then he pulls out the apple again from where he'd hidden it in his waist sash's pouch. Immediately the stallion makes another, softer, strange noise and his ears shoot forward. His head was still lowered. The mammalian holds out the apple, but keeps his distance. "This is what you want..." He says, below his breath.

Renathan had not figured that it would be this difficult to teach this sort of easy trick to the equillion, as they seemed like very docile creatures typically. He begins to figure that maybe he is teaching it the wrong way? However, he didn't want to stop and re-think his approach while he had managed to have the stallion's attention. He walks away from the fence, and down the fence row, enough so that there was a good amount of distance between Shy Guy and himself. He then holds the apple out over the fence again, and gives a low and soft wolf-whistle. The Stallion moves one ear behind him, and then one towards the front, as if he was unsure. Renathan gives yet another low and soft wolf whistle, and shakes the apple. The stallion flicks both ears forward, and then flicks his tail back and forth as he begins walking toward the mammalian. So far, so good!

Renathan tries to maintain a more dominant sense about him, since he has managed to break several different drakes before, and he figured an untrained stallion would be much the same. The equillion steps gingerly to him in a deceptively docile way, and then reaches out to take the apple. Renathan has to move his hand away, however, since the Stallion nearly bit down on his hand in the process. Perhaps starting with an adult equine was not exactly Renathan's most intelligent idea. He leans back out again with the apple, making sure that his hand was open to the fullest extent. Thankfully, this time Shy Guy took the apple without much issue, using his lips to pick up the crisp green fruit. Renathan was actually not sure how many apples it was safe to feed an equillion a day; but he hoped that three wouldn't be too many. It looked like this was going to be a little easier than he thought, now that the stallion didn't seem to immediately want to use him for target practice.

Renathan then walks away from the stallion and down the fence row a little ways again before stopping. He fishes around in his backpack this time for another apple; since he'd only had room for one of the apples in his waist pouch. He pulls out a smaller, pink apple from his backpack and holds it out again. The stallion seems interested, but wary. Renathan gives a low wolf-whistle, and waits. The Stallion at least seemed to be getting it, as he begins walking down the fence row, slowly and warily. He makes his way up to the mammalian with his head held up just a little higher; less dangerously with that horn. Then the stallion uses just his lips to pick up the smaller pink apple. This time, the pure equillion devours it with relish, moving his head up and down in what appeared to be excitement. He nuzzles around in Renathan's hand for a second, looking for more. That was the first bit of affection Renathan had seen from the unruly equine.

Of course that bit of construed affection was quickly ended; the stallion realized that Renathan did not have another apple for him in his hand, so he quickly leans his ears back and snaps at him. Renathan removes his hand from the general vicinity, and goes to move away again. This time, when he is far enough away from the rather unruly stallion, he fishes for another of the tiny pink apples but hides it at his side; not holding it out. He then calls for the stallion again, in that low wolf-whistle. The stallion seems to have figured this one out; he trots in that strange cadence quickly down to Renathan and stands there, expecting his treat. He sniffs the air, both of his ears forward and then one moving to swivel backwards, in that confused stance. After a moment of looking around, Renathan relinquishes the small pink treat to the equillion, for which the pure seemed quite overjoyed.

Renathan was at least happy that at the moment the stallion was acting a little more easy to deal with. However, the creature still snapped at him whenever he no longer had the small pink apple to eat; so Renathan decides that at least for a while, he was going to keep his hands away from the creature's mouth unless he had a treat to give him. Renathan takes a quick jaunt down the fence row, and then doesn't pull out an apple at all; instead he leans over the fence and doesn't place his hand out. He calls for the equillion with that low wolf whistle, and waits. The stallion makes his way over to him at a good clip; and then waits to be rewarded. Renathan pegs this down as a success, even as the stallion nuzzles into the fence, looking for a treat around Renathan. The mammalian rewards him this time with a smaller slice of apple, pulled from his waist pouch. He was glad that today seemed like a success! He'd return tomorrow.

The mammalian renard was back the next day; happy to see the stallion again. Renathan was excited at the progress with the otherwise vicious pure equillion, as he hoped that the equillion's spunky personality would make for a rather fun trick-practicing mount. Renathan watches for a moment as the stallion runs about in the field, seemingly randomly, before noticing him and stopping. The equillion's pale blue eyes focus on him and harden, Renathan can tell that their relationship was still not exactly warm. Renathan makes his way to the fence, and makes the low wolf-whistle. The stallion pricks it's ears forward, but continues to keep it's head down, exposing that sharp and long horn. He makes his way to the fence where the renard is, but Renathan refuses to give up the apple just yet. He holds out the apple just outside of the equine's reach and then begins walking away. The stallion seems confused for a moment, but Renathan simply clicks his tongue twice, and keeps going.

Renathan admittedly knew a lot more about creatures that were carnivorous than he knew about herbivores. Carnivores were typically better pets, in his past experience, due to their relative lack of fear, whereas prey animals were sometimes fearful and anxious. Renathan had known to keep his Stallion with other equines, thus he typically kept Shy Guy with his children and his Gelding pure, who were all much less aggressive. The pure had only been separated into this field for the training; he allowed him into the other field after they were done using a sliding opening in the fence. Renathan walks quite a ways before turning around slightly, noticing that the equillion had indeed been following him, though at a distance. That was definitely good! Renathan quickly halves the tinier apple, and offers the stallion half. It didn't take very long before the stallion manages to get up close to the mammalian and take the apple slice.

Renathan had been hoping that today's training would go decently well, and that he'd be able to introduce himself into the fence without becoming a rather fancy horn ornament, or a skewer, but at this point it was really too early to know. The equine snapped at his hand as soon as Shy Guy finished off the piece of the apple. Renathan walks a little ways away, and the stallion keeps a wary eye on him, but does not seem interested in following him any further. That was actually good; the Renard did not want the stallion following him around like a puppy at all times unless it was called for. That was the reason why he was starting with this part of the training anyway; mostly to get the stallion used to his presence, and partially to make sure that he could get the creature's attention on him from a descent distance away. That was important to what he wanted to use this beast for, after all.

Renathan just knew that due to the Stallion's previous athletic stunts that he would make a great show horse, perhaps even with a rider. Renathan often had to find ways to get the equillion down off of his house's roof; or out of trees. He also had spied the beast walking delicately across his rock fence at the house; how he'd gotten up there Renathan would probably never know. Renathan did know that the stallion seemed to be attached to his other equillion, which was probably the reason why the strong and dexterous equine hadn't managed to escape entirely. Renathan waits for a moment before calling to Shy-Guy with the pre-practiced wolf-whistle. The equillion begins making his way to Renathan, and whenever the equine get close Renathan holds out the apple piece and clicks twice loudly with his tongue, to get his attention and to let him know how wanted him to follow him.
