Emery was not normally a sentimental woman, but now that she was here she was finding herself a little miffed that she couldn't see the comet. And yet, there was nothing she could do about it. She didn't have any magic or creatures powerful enough to blow away the clouds- just a little candleflame that stayed by her ankles. "...You're doing a good job, Pyrrhos." She said, an uncharacteristic warmness in her voice. Pyrrhos simply blinked at her, not quite old or smart enough to truly appreciate the praise. With her assistance in helping to set up complete however, Emery was free to do whatever she liked on the hill, and she had her own research to set up. She approached the ssashirk that had been handing out tasks, and she directed Emery to where she could get the supplies she was missing. A quick trip around the hill and she found it- a little supply tent, now mostly empty.

A few names dropped, a quick recounting of how she had helped, and a quick look inside her bag to see what she was missing very quickly earned Emery the pieces she had been missing from her equipment. On loan, of course- she would need to give them back at the end of the night. They were as good as hers for now though, and Emery rushed to find a good place to sit. Many of the more casual onlookers here weren't actually sure what part of the hill to sit on to view the comet, given that the clouds were covering it up and they weren't informed in advance. That was good for Emery- it meant that when she found an ideal spot there was still room for her to set up her gear, even though she was a late arrival. The creature made of pure flame that patrolled the area around her spot helped keep people away too.

Painstakingly, Emery set up her own equipment. Luckily, everything she had gotten from the supply tent- power sources mostly- were compatible with her own gear, and she was able to get everything up within a few minutes. She checked the time on her heads up display. It was late- far past sundown, and approaching the new day. The comet was visible now... except it wasn't. The clouds were still there. Even with the artificial darkness blocking the light from the city, Emery could only see tiny patches of stars through the clouds, and not a single hint of the comet. She checked her equipment. It was receiving readings and printing off notes already. She was getting the data she needed, but it felt so... empty. Robotic. She reached a hand up, gently rubbing the edge of her screen. Empty. She glanced at Pyrrhos, who was still dutifully making his rounds.

At least one of them felt satisfied here. She didn't need to see the comet. She didn't. As long as she got her readings, that was all that mattered. Emotion didn't matter... but it did, didn't it? The only reason she was able to get these recordings to start with was because people had felt something for her. Felt the urge to be kind, felt bad, felt appreciative of her efforts. Collaboration was the only way anyone here had gotten anything done, and collaboration required human compassion. She sighed. It did, admittedly, suck pretty bad that she wasn't going to be able to see the big flying rock. Well, rock-ice mixture. Comets were weird like that. But at least she had met some nice people, right...? It didn't feel the same somehow. But then... a gasp flew up from the crowd. Emery lifted her head, glancing around- had something expensive broken?

As she followed their gazes she realized that no, something far cheaper had broken- the clouds in the sky. They had finally thinned and parted, revealing the night sky, the wind finally blowing them away like curtains. And there it was, in all its brilliance- the comet. Its name didn't matter- who first saw it didn't matter- all there was was that moment of awe as it hung in the sky like a diamond. At this distance, it didn't even appear to be moving, sparkling in so many colors they all blended into white by the time they hit the ground. Even Pyrrhos, as simple as he was, was transfixed. For a moment, Emery's studies were forgotten. Everyone's were, but their equipment would keep chugging along in the background. For a moment, everyone was of one mind- and Emery was happy to sink into it and go along for the ride.
It was beautiful.
