It was a good while before the sphinx happened to grace park again, and although it was in the company of a crag wiurn, it wasn't the same one as back at the kennel.. No, this time around she had come with a creature entirely unfamiliar to her in person, though perhaps a bit familiar due her experiences with Sciomelior. There being considerable emphasis on the "a bit" part, considering Sciomelior was largely raised from hatchling to adult, to be sure, but the sphinx hadn't quite had the time to spend as much time with her after that.
This one was fully grown, fully equipped to become a threat if needed.. and fully unfamiliar with the presence of people. In short, it would be a long road to getting him used to the fact that people not only existed, but that they might be worthwhile to keep in company, so the prospective trainer might even have a chance at starting something.

In truth this was a favour to someone she'd met in town, and one she's generally pretty quick to offer, if it means helping out. It's not like she hasn't fought, run from, or dodged all sorts of other beasts that she DID own in the past, to a more or less successful degree. Compared to that, given she doesn't even need to train the wiurn exactly, it seemed hardly a difficult task to do. That was before she learned about his personality, however.
Now, in general a humanoid is, at best, a meat drumstick on two legs as far as most grown wiurn are concerned. If you're lucky they'll ignore you so long as they're not hungry. If they ARE hungry, well.. wing a wingspan the length of their body, considerable bulk and height, a wicked stinger tail and more than enough spikes and teeth to catch you, running only gets you so far.

Which was to say the shijin was lurking nearby, just to be on hand in case anything goes.. particularly wrong. Not that Amonuro could take on the wiurn, so much as just help prevent him from devouring the sphinx in one go. With that said, the mammalian had foregone the use of armour or other protective means. Both because the extra weight was more a hindrance than the protection was beneficial, but also because there was no sense in appearing bigger and more threatening to something that's likely already in pretty poor mood.
Instead she'd need to rely on her feet doing the carrying.
But that was getting ahead of themselves. For now, the wiurn was largely lazing about in the yard, semi-curled on the grass. The mammalian hadn't even thought to try entering the fence itself yet, but knew that was going to be an inevitable bridge to cross eventually.

Instead, she wandered the circumference of the fence on the outside part, slow and casual, taking her time to study the crag. If Embernacht had inclination to study her back, he was very good at hiding it - There was only the occasional cracking open the eyelid, yellow eye studying her for a few seconds, before closing again. Evidently he didn't seem to think of her as too much trouble, or worth the attention more than that. Good, in terms of not becoming wiurn food, slightly less so in terms of getting him to get used to people presence.
Darky didn't just spend the walk looking for body language signs. Checking and trying to see the state of the wiurn was also something that caught her curiosity, since it wasn't often you got to see the same type of creature in so different a context. It was almost a game in her mind to try and spot the differences between him and Sciomelior.

Most notably it came down to something as simple as the different markings - the style of the spots and stripes were certainly the same, but the exact pattern had slight enough variations to make them distinct. On the shoulder one spot could be slightly bigger or small, on the legs the stippling might be more intense or light, and the striping of the wings with arc and weave along the membrane in slightly different paths.
Even the look in the eyes, though those were otherwise the same, showed the difference a personality could make. Scio was more the sociable kind, perhaps out of the ordinary for wiurn in general, while Embernacht here looked to be more the loner. Reversely, as much as the sphinx spent time circling, the crag didn't seem to make any quick motions either, which spoke to a much calmer nature than Scio. Were she the scientist sort, this would've been quite the observation to perform.

The sphinx paused, leaning up against the fence a moment. What else? Perhaps the spikes were a bit longer or shorter, but other than that the two were like-for-like. To be sure, another crag might have been able to see the differences that much more plainly, though the mammalian though to have done a decent enough job, under the circumstances - It's not like she has that great a sense of scent, and any further details would need more closer scrutiny.
Perhaps it was time to enter the yard itself, pick things up a bit?
Bracing her arms against the fence, she hoisted herself up, balancing a moment while she got reading to hoist the feet up and over. The low rumbling and sudden shifting sounds quickly made her drop back down and take cover behind the fence, staring out through the beams. The reaction was more instinct than anything, but it was good to have them in the training business.

Looking through the beams of the fence the mammalian only saw the wiurn slowly roll over from one side to the other, eventually settling again, wings rustling only long enough to get comfortable in the new position. She breathed out to herself, shoulders relaxing - false alarm, no need to be concerned about any territorial display or threat yet. Inwardly there was a brief moment of embarrassment at having reacted to lightly, but then again that reaction could be the difference between staying safe and getting considerably maimed.
So sometimes false alarms are good things too.
Trying again, she placed the hands on the fence once more, and boosted herself up, using a foot on one of the lower beams to steady herself as she vaulted over to the other side. Though a relatively quick motion, it barely registered in Embernacht's perception, apparently, as the wiurn continued to lounge on the grass.

Small favours, the sphinx though, and began to very, very, VERY casually do a slow lap on the inside of the fence now, similar to what she'd done on the outside. Now, wiurn weren't necessarily the best in terms of perception, but one could hope that even Embernacht, in his semi-lethargic state would be able to tell when someone was inside versus outside the yard. And with a lot of beasts and creatures that was a Very Important distinction to make.
The wiurn, meanwhile, doesn't seem none the wiser as to the change in the situation. Or, more likely, is fully aware but not really looking to devote any sort of energy into caring over it. The small fuzzy thing was Over There and he was Over Here. So long as there was still Distance between them, why should he be concerned about something so small and scale-less? Much less one smelling so Different.

To prove such indifference, the wiurn stretched out his neck and gave a broad-toothed yawn, rolling onto his back a moment. The dew claw of the wing itched the side of the neck, before he rolled back onto the side once more, one lazy eye peeking open just long enough to make out the mammalian as she rounded into his line of sight from behind the tree. This one was of No Interest. This one was much too small for Food, and that weird Different scent meant that it wasn't the other two-legger he had seen previously.
In truth, he hadn't seen THAT many two-leggers, least not repeatedly. Certainly there's been some scientists, perhaps some other who handled him hand-to-hand, before he ended up with the previous one. Who wasn't to say this new two-legger wasn't just another in a long line of people he really didn't much care about?

From the mammalian's side, unknown to her at the time, this line of thinking would have actually been pretty preferable. Embernacht wasn't one of hers, and if anything this was more of a "on loan" situation, if that could even be used with creatures. She didn't really need to 'do' anything with him, nor had any particular purpose in mind, other than just making him more comfortable around people.
So of course, this languid nature was preferable to the other potential option, one which Nightmare had been quite fond of back in the day, and one her son Phobos was also very adept at adopting. Unfortunately it also made it hard to gauge where the wiurn's personal space borders existed, and when and where it WOULD be too far to cross. A creature unfamiliar with people could go from placid to aggressive in a blink of an eye, and the mammalian was being very careful when and where she chose to blink as a result.

Taken another way, however, it also meant that the wiurn was something of a mystery, which presented some other types of opportunities as well. For one, the sphinx was always curious to learn new things about everything around her, and a new creature presented a lot of opportunity for that. What were his likes, his dislikes? Was there a particular type of food he preferred over others, perhaps a particular spot for sleeping? Did he like flying more than resting on the ground, or perhaps hated the act of having to almost crawl most of the time?
All this and more was a part of every living things fibre, the make-up of what made them, them. So many of her own creatures have long since become familiar stories, and while a couple of mysteries none the less remain, they still feel somehow more familiar as strangers, than this stranger does familiar.

Perhaps its because she had chosen to adopt them, whether out of some unknown whimsy or point of purpose, while Embernacht was truly onto his own in the situation. The only reason the two were even co-habiting the space was largely because the mammalian simply sought to offer a new acquaintance a favour. Though it can't be said that for all her skittishness at getting too close, that the wiurn was particularly open about showing his distrust.
By and large why should he have? The mammalian was a spindly thing on two legs in his perspective, hardly worthy of a snack (and the owner had assured her he's been well fed prior to the handover, to help ease the acquaintance). The sphinx could have thrown a spear at him at full strength, and still ended up barely making a dent in his scaled hide, much less comparative mass. No, to that end, Embernacht was quite assured of his present safety.

It also didn't seem like he had a particular penchant to be curious neither. Most creatures, when faced with the unfamiliar, would focus on it. Some in fear, some in anger or threat, sure, but even the more placid ones would show a general sense of needing to investigate enough to at least classify something as one of multiple categories. Usually those went 'threat', 'not threat', 'mate' and 'food'. Out of all options the second was always preferable out of everything else.
So the sphinx should have felt glad the wiurn seemed to consider her inconsequential enough to not really bother reacting to her. Sure, the odd eye opened every now and again when she happened to make more of a noise, but no more than to just check her position against the source of the noise, before it shuttered again. Any other warrior worth their salt might have even felt a twinge of wounded pride.

The sphinx meanwhile, on her seventh circle around the inner side of the yard, merely stopped and placed her hands on the hips, breathing out with a heavy sigh. How does one get something indifferent to socialize? Not in that kind of "poke it until it starts chasing you" way, nor the "keep talking to it until it responds back" way. Those were for the acquaintance to figure out, since not all trainers were exactly vocal to their trainees (although the sphinx fully admitted that habit might have also been a bit unique to her style of things, the talking somehow being more comforting than the silence).
"Hey," she tried, tail giving a flick behind her. "Embernacht."
A lazy eye opened to regard her. It scanned for a few seconds, paused… and merely closed again. If she didn't know any better, and if he wasn't a good one ton of muscle mass wyvern with claws the length of her arm, the sphinx could have almost confused him with an obstinate house cat.
