Carry Rider - 5
She held on as hard as she could as he bucked and swung around time after time until sweat gleamed on his strange, hairless skin. Jack grinned a little as it happened, she loved feeling as though things were going well, and things WERE going well at the moment she thought. Hmm, she didn't know what was going to happen for the moment as she continued to train the halfbreed, and she hoped that things were working out in her favor. Jack chewed on her lip and then bit down when he jumped up and then bucked his back legs up again, drawing blood. Swearing a little, she wondered what she was going to do about that after all this, but that wasn't going to matter until all this was over. As he bucked, he started getting tired a little, he didn't have as much stamina as some of her other animals, and that was a good thing for her at the moment. She grinned, she loved this.

He was tiring out quickly, though Jack knew he would get a burst of energy before he was completely broken and would let her on his back. There was nothing she was going to do except stay on the back of the halfbreed as he had his outburst and hope he didn't scramble her brain. There was fuzz on the edge of her mind, however, and she shook her head trying to get her focus back. He was a dangerous animal, she had to remember that. Ergo wasn't strong, but he was powerful in other ways, and she needed to remember this fact while she was training him, especially things that were going to make him mad. Chewing on her bloody lip again, she gave a little sigh and then jerked his head to the side when he went to start spinning a little like a Drake. She managed to catch a glimpse of his dead eyes again though, and the outburst was even more disturbing for it.

How was she going to do this when he was finally broken? How was she going to train him even more things to help him in the arena or out Beyond when the time came? She sighed a little and jerked his head around again when he tried to spin once more, his wings tucked neatly against his sides for the moment, or at least as best as they could be due to their strange, bug-like shape. Jack panted a little as she realized he was winding down, only flailing at this point and not doing too good of a job at it either. Keeping an eye on his eyes, she shook her head again as the edges of her mind went fuzzy again, and she hoped he wasn't trying to scramble her head any, but she was betting that's what he was doing, it was his only attack, his only defense, it was the only thing he really knew how to do. Aside from being intangible, but she didn't think he knew how to control that yet, at least he hadn't figured out that he could do that with her on his back yet.

If he went intangible, she would simply slip through him with the saddle underneath her. Right now it wasn't going to happen though, he couldn't control it and he hadn't really even done it yet. Jack made a mental note to make sure to train him in that at some point, but she just wasn't sure when it was going to happen. Ergo stumbled around a bit and then snorted a very Equillion-like sound before he stamped on the ground and then huffed again. He didn't know what was going on, but it needed to STOP. Nothing was going to work no matter what he did, and even if he knew how to control himself, would he still do it? If anything, at least things were going toward the woman's way, he felt that was the reason behind all of this, and there was a slow swell of pride in him for a moment before it was stamped out with indignity and anger, though his eyes gave away nothing all the same.

Jack was uneasy, she didn't know if she had won yet or what, but that was fine she figured, she still had some wariness in her heart when it came to the halfbreed and his unfazed eyes, but it seemed like he was wearing out no matter what. Grinning, she patted him on the neck as he started to walk to the other side of the corral to sniff at a few things, every now and then kicking a foot out in protest of her being on his back still, but that was it. Jack whooped, even though she knew they weren't finished and she wished that things were going to go this well in the coming training, but she knew that was still up in the air no matter what happened. She settled back down and took the reins in her hands, wondering if she should just start that training already or what, but she would give him a little bit before kicking into more training, it was only fair.

Still kicking every now and then, he wandered around the paddock as she held onto the reins, patting him on the neck and shoulder every now and then to remind him she was there for whatever reason she had in her head. Maybe it was the halfbreed doing it, she didn't know, but at least it was something to consider. Slowly taking the reins, she pulled back and he fought her, something that was going to have to wait for a little while longer, just stay on his back for awhile and then go into the rein commands. That was the only fair way to go about things, or at least that's what she figured. Before she taught him to fight, she was going to teach him to fly and be intimidating, how to not be intimidated and how to sense danger. Once they got done with the boring things, then they would go about fighting for a change.

Now that he was broken enough for her to ride on his back, the woman figured he should learn the basic bridle commands. Left, right, forward, back, and stop, they all played a key roll and could be used for flying as well. After making sure she had a bag of bugs for the beast to snack on when he got something right, she flicked the reins and squeezed her legs a little against his sides, annoying him enough into walking forward, away from the flick of the reins. Jack grinned and gave him some treats, even though he only went a couple of steps, hey, she was going to count it at least. She stretched out on the animal's back and then slumped over again with a bit of a yawn, mount training was becoming tedious, she'd done it so many times it wasn't even funny. Maybe she shouldn't waste her time on this at the moment...

Jack flicked the reins again and squeezed his sides at the same time, and the halfbreed moved forward again to try and get away from the irritation. Grinning, she gave him another handful of bugs, leaning over his shoulder to give them to him. At least he was food oriented like most of her animals were, though some did it just to better themselves or to make her proud. Hopefully that would be Ergo after awhile, but she really didn't think that was going to happen. Pushing a hand through her hair, she then flicked the reins again, and once more the beast started to walk again. When he stopped, she didn't give him any bugs, rather, she flicked the reins again to keep him moving. She did that time after time before he seemed to realize that meant she wanted him to keep walking, and the longer he walked, the more bugs he appeared to get from the woman's hand.

How was she going to keep this going though? She sighed a little and shook her head before flicking the reins again and then not rewarding him for doing something he knew how to do now. Jack just wished this would go by a little faster, though that meant there was more chances of him messing things up and have their training be set back by weeks or even months. Sure she sped things along rather well, but still, she wished she could just snap her fingers and have him learn what she wanted him to learn. Oh well, things didn't happen like that she supposed. Giving a little shrug, she kept him walking in a straight line, and then when then came close to the other side of the paddock, she pulled on the left rein harder than the right to get him to turn. His head swung around and he went up on his back legs for a moment, causing her to grip tight to the reins and the saddle horns, but then he dropped right back down and shook his head.

Gripping tight to the reins, she let him straighten out his head again before she flicked them and then turned his head toward the left once again. Again Ergo jerked his head back and snorted at her, as though he wasn't happy about this turn of events, but that was alright she figured, nothing bad was going to happen with this now. She chewed on her lip and then pulled the reins to the side once again and squeezed his sides with her legs before he finally turned to where his head was going and started to walk. There, much better! Smiling, she gave him a handful of bugs from her seemingly never-ending pouch of treats and then patted him on the side of the neck when he finished his treat. She got him walking again and then decided she would mix it up a little bit, pulling his head to the right, at least he didn't seem to be expecting that much.

Ergo jerked his head toward the left and snorted at her, pawing at the ground with his front split hoof-like feet. She didn't know what to do about things, but this was going to be the most difficult part of this training she thought. It was starting to get a little dark out, she didn't know how much longer they would have to train today, but at least she would be able to ride him home and not just walk herself, that was a good thing. Jack got him walking again and then pulled the reins toward the right again until he finally swerved right and kept on walking. Managing a tired smile, the woman let out a yawn for a moment before patting him on the neck and then giving him another treat of bugs for him to snack on for doing a job well done. This was so tedious she didn't know what to do, but at least things were working out alright.

Well, things could certainly be going worse for her today so far, Jack thought with a little smile on her face as she got Ergo to start walking again. She put him through his left and right paces, rewarding him whenever he got it right and didn't fight her about it. It happened less and less, and finally she barely needed to pull on the reins to get him to go where she wanted him to go. Now she just needed to figure out how to get him to stop and back up, easily done she figured, considering she had done it before and all that. Giving a little tug on the reins, she kept him walking for now though until he stopped on his own to get a drink of water from the other side of the paddock, and she laid across his neck while he did so, getting a little rest in for herself as he drank.

When he was done drinking, the woman turned him around and got him walking again, only to swiftly jerk backward on the reins and then stop doing it. He stopped automatically, tossing his head from side to side before he started to walk again. Well, it was a small victory, but a victory all the same she figured. Jack tugged on the reins again and then gave him some bugs the moment he stopped moving, which was exactly what she wanted him to do at this point. Ergo shook his head again, his stiff, short mane barely moving as he did so, and she threaded her fingers through his mane for a moment. While she didn't know what drove the halfbreed with his dead, vacant eyes, she didn't think she wanted to know at the same time. As long as he kept going for bugs, however, she figured they would be in for a good few sessions to get things going.

Letting him continue to walk again, the woman then tugged lightly on the reins until he stopped moving, stamping a foot on the ground and kicking up a little dust with it when he did so. She smiled a little and then patted him on the neck before giving him a few bugs. At least they were all dead, she didn't have a problem with them, she just didn't want his snack to run away while she was trying to give it to him. So he'd managed to get a few commands down it seemed, though she tested the stop command a few more times before she was content with it for the moment, and she hoped that things would turn out well for the rest of the training, no matter what it was right now. Jack pushed a hand through her hair again and frowned at it as it slipped over her eyes, she needed a haircut.

Well, that could wait for later, she usually just did it herself anyway, maybe she would work on that tonight when she got back home after all her chores were done. There were days she thought about hiring some help with her animals, but then she would just shake her head and she knew she wouldn't trust anyone else with the lives of her animals, except maybe Ashe and Renathan, but that was different. Jack chuckled and then tugged backwards on the reins, not letting go until he started backing up and shaking his head, trying to get rid of the pressure on his face and around his muzzle. She grinned a little and gave him some bugs. At least he was something of a fast learner, it would make the rest of the training so much easier in the end of it all she figured. Even though it was tedious, at least she knew that it was something that needed to be done if she was going to have a fine mount someday.
