Renathan stayed relaxed but was magically poised to react just in case the sniffling beast had tried to hurt his beloved familiar. Renathan watches the beast and is surprised to note that it is not, indeed, breathing out actual air on him; suggesting some kind of misty-body type perhaps? Renathan didn't want to risk scaring it off by pushing his hands out too fast toward it to check, instead, he holds both arms out harmlessly, raising his palms up. He was curious at the dragon-like beast, but unsure of what he was looking at. It had antlers like a stag; but it was long-bodied and long-tailed. It had huge teeth; he wondered if they managed to regrow if they lose them? He figured they wouldn't even lose them if they weren't corporeal. Renathan then gets a slight idea; and conjures the magic up within him harmlessly. He then summons a small Candle Flame to his right hand, not enough to burn anything of course; or do any real harm. It was beautiful though; dancing in the pink color that most of Renathan's magic manifested in for whatever reason. He hoped that it would be interesting enough to the creature without being threatening; since it was a weak spell. "See, lookit here. It's so soft; and pretty." He holds out his left hand harmlessly; to be checked if it needed to be.

The dragon was taken aback, magic! From a person! Slowly it raised a fire shield in case this person tried to harm it with his fire, though it wasn't sure that was going to happen. Part of it was curious, but the other part of it was suspicious. As the fire blazed around the dragon, it took a step forward again and sniffed at the strange man once more, wondering what was going to happen.

Renathan realized that this situation could definitely have turned out much worse than it had so far; and could certainly still wind up being very bad; especially whenever he realizes that the creature was, indeed, magical itself. That was terrifying; creatures had their own minds, and magic was certainly not something that should be taken advantage of by the power-hungry. However, this creature seemed more curious and also docile, so that was good! Renathan flinches slightly as the hot fire starts up around them and around the creature; he instantly worried about his poor jibiji. He places a hand around the tiny avian and conjures up his intention to make her immune to the heat; since heat tended to make her sick. Then he worried about himself lastly; not truly believing that the creature would harm him purposefully, at least at this point. He was caring to his creatures, after all. The jibiji looks at the fire with bright and shimmery eyes; curiously; and makes a soft cheep; obviously unharmed even with her fluffy feathers.
Renathan reaches forwards towards the creatures gently; not forcing his way, but opening his palm all the same, the little fire flickering out. "Thank you for not hurting me fella; thankfully I can make sure that my little one here doesn't get harmed, see?" He's smiling beneath the mask, naturally. "You are really neat; you know that? Are you even... Real? Like touchable and all?" Rhetorical questions wouldn't hurt, it seemed.

The dragon snarled and the shield went down for a moment as the man's hand came toward it. It wasn't sure what was going to happen, but he couldn't hurt it unless he used magic of course, but even then it had it's shield. It allowed the man's hand to pass through it for a moment, but it didn't know if it should be worried or not. It liked this man though and figured it would go with him. Just for a little while.
[Congratulations, you've tamed the dragon!]

It was a new month; he'd left last month to take home the large dragonlike beast he'd managed to convince to come with him. Renathan usually always traveled with his familiar; it just felt strange to be apart. However, he needed to be one-on-one with the creature he was planning on working with today; mostly because it was a bit standoffish. He didn't want the chance of her being hurt; or really anyone else in the park either, so it seemed that it was the mansion indeed. The vulticus had been ordered quite a while back at the labs, but he hadn't been received until recently. Renathan had him on a thick chain and collar at the moment; since he was afraid the absolutely monstrously-sized creature would run off if he wasn't careful. So far, the creature was a perfect gentleman; if not a little aloof of him, staying at the end of the chain. Renathan stands atop one of the hillocks in the first part of the Mansion Grounds; looking out over the fields carefully.

The vulticus was only somewhat ruly; most likely because of the general... Conditioning, it seemed, that customs went through to arrive naturally preferring their masters over anyone else at least a little bit. However, the creature was still big and obviously headstrong. Despite Renathan's best efforts, the slightest tug would have the giant creature turn to him with what had to have been the closest thing he'd ever seen a creature perform to a look of pouting disdain combined with a snarl. Renathan was actually a bit intimidated by this creature; a large hellhound if he'd ever seen one. He'd ordered it too; himself. He wasn't sure if he'd known what he was getting into when he made that decision. He stands atop of the hillock for a single moment before something stirs the vulticus into glorious action; pulling the reluctant Renathan forward with ease. The strength and delicacy of movement really made him realize that he was lucky the creature was being polite before.

The area was pretty quiet for the silent evening hours; the warm air was slightly cooling now that the sun was making it's hasty retreat below the horizon. The scent of the area was nearly intoxicating; the heady musk of a summer night was already beckoning him forward toward the mansion itself. The mansion still seemed as far away as ever. Surely nothing bad would happen with his giant beastie here with him? This vulticus was absolutely monstrous, and certainly impolite. As if it had it's own vast goal stretching out before it, in fact. Renathan had no idea what he'd gotten into here at all. The grass was soft beneath both canid's padded pawsteps, the mammalian and the vulticus both, though the vulticus was slightly more fleet of foot. Renathan was being all but dragged across the field, even as he picked up his pace. Eventually, he grins his feet into the grass at a halt; tugging on the chain.

The vulticus felt the vague pull on his neck surprisingly less than a sarane of approximately the same height would have; perhaps due to his thick neck. He still turns around -ears laid back and teeth bared- and growled a thunderous noise unlike Renathan had heard in a canid before... It was odd; his other vulticus couldn't make a noise like that one; not even the other hellhound he owned. Renathan swallowed thickly, and laid his own ears back, baring his teeth beneath the mask. He bristled his tails and held them up over his back. He had no delusions; this creature could kill him. However, there was something in those bright, fiery eyes that simply made him think that he would not. The creature stands there; holding it's ground, and then roughly turns around, dragging Renathan off of his feet in the process, despite Renathan's absolute refusal to let go of the makeshift handle. It was nearly cutting his hand pads, in fact.

Renathan is just able to get to his feet and stop again, rubbing his feet across the grass in an attempt to stop the creature. He finally dug his claws in and leans his entire body back; arching. The creature stops again; and turns around slowly. His eyes were bright and strong, his tail whipping back and forth to one side; an angry movement. Like a cat flicking it's tail in an angry manner... Yes, that was what it was more like. Renathan doesn't really know what to do; now that he has gotten his way. The creature looks very impatient; almost humanoid in it's mannerisms of belying this fact; and then it turns the rest of the way over it's shoulder, as if demanding, his mouth open and glowing like the spiraled fireworks sparking across his body. Renathan waited a quick moment, shaking, and then reaches out a hand slowly to the creature; a tentative truce.

The creature doesn't move towards his hand at all. It simply looks over him in a vaguely uninterested manner before turning back around; but this time he waited a minute; for the chain to slack up. Perhaps out of dislike of the makeshift collar pulling against his neck and rubbing a bit. He did seem pretty sensitive for such a huge, monstrous beast. Renathan had really never seen a cave vulticus before this point; so when he was asked what kind of vulticus he wanted the creature designed on he simply said 'the biggest one'. Yeah. Looks like big wolves were the relative size of dragons in this part of the area. He didn't really know what to think. Renathan hadn't been able to touch the beast yet; getting the collar on him had been a kind of tedious game; in which the creature was tricked into having it slip over his neck with the lure of a bit of shed animal fur.

The creature had not been happy about that; not one bit. He'd felt the collar go around his neck and had immediately pulled, thankfully allowing it to rest against the base of his neck but also making him that much more angry. He'd gave a thick growl and shook his head; but Renathan held firm, the chain firmly grasped in both hands. He knew when he had seen the creature that it was way too big to control traditionally. He'd have to use his entire body to keep the creature from attacking something or rushing away. That was why he had decided to do his first little bit of bonding at the mansion; to get the creature to listen to him just enough to hopefully not be interested in attacking any smaller creatures whenever they went to the park at some point. Renathan begins to walk with the creature across the field with less gusto; the creature patiently at the lead.

Renathan knew exactly why he thought the creature was intimidating; it was the level of pride and attention that the creature seemed to have whenever it cast it's gaze across the surrounding areas. Almost like it was assessing everything. Canines were pack animals; but it didn't seem wholly interested in any kind of company; let alone that of it's own kind. A solitary creature, but not like that of a salaves, that would not accept any of it's kind to the point of death. Renathan walks with the creature, feeling simultaneously like he was being lead into a trap and leading a mighty creature across a war-torn field. Of course, the Mansion frightened him on a regular basis, but it seemed almost shy today. Perhaps because of the intimidating beast he had with him, or perhaps due to his own timidity today; since he had difficulty at the mansion many times before now. He didn't want to have too much of a struggle today.

He was hoping that the Mansion had basically called a truce in with him today, since he was so tired of all of the infighting he seemed to have with it on a regular basis. Almost every month he came out here it was a generalized nightmare with terrifying imagery; he hoped this month would perhaps be different. Eventually; the pair makes it up to another hillock and the mammalian and vulticus look out across the ever-shifting land of the mansion. Renathan did not look too worried; he'd seen this before, but the creature itself was obviously noticing the strangeness of this new, never before seen land laid out about it. The creature holds it's ground but looks out with an almost tangible amount of disbelief coming off of him; and Renathan could totally understand that. The grass rolled out in many directions; the entire ground roiling like an ocean's waves for a moment; just at the moment that the sun turned red at the end of the horizon.

All of a sudden the area burst into brutal life; thousands of sparkler-like sparks twisting out inbetween the long and flowing orange-gold-green grasses of the burning summer; like thousands of little fireworks. The grass, as per the norm it seemed, perhaps due to his own mentality of being safe up high; did not change like this atop the hilltop. The vulticus looks down, nearly incredulous at the bright lights; and then pulls Renathan again via the chain; pulling him down the grassy hilltop and down into the violently sparkler-like fireworks display in the now pinkish grass down below. Renathan holds his breath; expecting the hiss of pain; and was surprised to find none. The perceived fireworks was either fire that was too weak for him to feel it with his fire-magic induced ways; or perhaps because they were pure light. They did make him feel very well at home; despite the vulticus pulling him down into the magical fields below.

Renathan holds his breath as they make there way down into the now-twilit field of summer grasses, still waving in some unfelt wind. The sparks were not fireflies; it was nearly shocking to note this. It was like hundreds of literal fireworks whisking through the field, up into the air about his shoulder-height at highest whizzing the entire way with spinning sparks; and then the would explode at the crest of their arc into a soft spray of shimmering lights. Renathan was almost too afraid to touch them to test them out; he instinctively draws close to the vulticus even though it is a large, intimidating creature that he barely knows due to the strangeness of the lights themselves; but not close enough to touch the beast. The vulticus doesn't seem bothered of course by the strange fey lights. The vulticus leans forward, snapping at a passing sparkler light; one that was bright yellow-white; he didn't seem aggressive as he did so, but his maw was certainly large enough to make a huge 'crack' noise as he snapped his jaws shut.
