The Yumenokei takes a sniff of the mixture; more like granola than anything else. It was made up of freeze dried raspberries and bits of pink apple, a food-safe honey replacement, granola bits with carob nibs as opposed to chocolate, freeze-dried coconut non-dairy yoghurt drops, and chopped bits of a large seed that was native to his homeland. Renathan had carefully checked to make sure that none of the ingredients were poisonous to pets, and made replacements where necessary. Auburn was primarily fed using seeds, with this mixture adding some needed vitamins and such. The Yumenokei didn't seem to mind the relatively sweet mix. <Would you prefer mochi in the future? I don't have any right now.> Renathan asked, curiously. {Mochi?} The Yumenokei sends back across, after chewing some of the mixture. <It is what Yumenokei normally eat.> He replied. {Yu-mey-no-kay?} Was the answer, coming across the link as the creature ate. <Yumenokei are... Well, kind of rabbit ghosts I guess. They don't have physical forms so I don't know how they eat.> He admitted.

Renathan then continued, rummaging through the refrigerator for his own breakfast. <Mochi are like sweet balls of rice, sometimes filled with sweet paste.> The conversation was mostly in the mysterious 'RoT link' communication of mostly pictures and vague ideas of course, but Renathan made sure to think prevalently of a picture of Mochi, the last he'd seen of some. The Yumenokei seemed to mull this over. {We can try the mochi next time, but I don't know what I like yet.} Renathan nodded at this. <I also don't know what is healthy for you, you aren't a ghost like most Yumenokei.> That was the best way Renathan had to explain it. The creature seemed to have gotten it, or at least didn't bother to ask him any more. Renathan pops a pot of pre-made stew on the stove to heat it up for himself. <So, if you'd like to know who I am, it is a long story, and I'll try my best to explain.> He offers over, as helpfully as possible.

The Yumenokei seemed to finish, and glanced around for a moment. Renathan remembered; water. He quickly poured some water in a wide-lipped saucer, knowing that an actual cup would be hard for the Yumenokei to get it's head into. Renathan quickly offered it over, and the creature took it in quickly. Then, the Yumenokei looked over at him as Renathan continued to stir the stew he had made. {Go on.} The Yumenokei coaxed through the link, that was the best way Renathan could have explained that mental 'tone'. <I may have made a mistake.> He started. The creature watched him curiously, judging by his body language. <Here, we can order... Creatures, to be made by some scientists in a Lab.> The Yumenokei stopped him, asking a question. {Creatures? Like animals? Why? What is a 'scientist'.} The flashes of images that he had sent were gradually sent back to him with a questioning bit behind them. Renathan could feel a slight migraine coming on, but he knew that this was required.

Renathan realized at this point that he hadn't really thought this through. This creature was obviously quick on the uptake of ideas. He didn't have any conversations this deep with any of his other creatures. He wasn't sure what to think about that, but he figured that this would take longer than he had suspected originally. <Yes, animals. Scientists are people- intelligent beings, that figure out how things work in nature. It is a job; a job is a task that a person does for...> He almost said 'money', but he stopped himself. <Food, and things that a person may need for a task. As payment, in return for a job.> He was trying to figure out what questions might be asked before he asked them. This was like having a hyper-intelligent baby or something, the creature had no concept of anything right now. <The why is probably for studying. Figuring out how the world works. Or for payment. Or perhaps it is just because they can. From the Scientist's point of view anyway.> These concepts were being absorbed quite rapidly by the creature in comparison to how it would be with a person, the mammalian thought.

Renathan took a moment's pause to collect his thoughts, and the Yumenokei seemed to quickly mull something over. {So, persons are 'intelligent'. So they 'think'. So I am a person.} He seemed to catch on quite quickly, more so than Renathan would have thought. {Are other Yumenokei persons?} Renathan was quiet for a moment. <Many things are under debate here in the City. A city is a place were persons live, in houses, like the one here. This one is mine.> He explained, rubbing his temple a bit on the left side with his hand. <Some of the bipedial... Uh, persons. Like me, think that anything that can 'think' is a person. However, others of this type of person... Well, they all look different...> Renathan gave him a few pictures of different humanoid races. <Humanoids. Some don't think that non-humanoids, like yourself, are capable of being people. Especially not the Labs-created non-humanoids.> This was getting very complicated really fast. He wasn't expecting this earlier.

The Yumenokei seemed to be digesting this RoT 'conversation' mentally, to the best of it's ability. {The difference is walking on two legs?} The creature asked, and then before Renathan could answer he said {No, not just that.} Renathan nodded. <Not just that. Some persons are prejudiced. They only think that the same type of being that what they are are 'people'. Some persons just believe that only creatures with a 'culture'... A set of similar moral values and traditions... Traditions are like... Oh wow.> Renathan had to stop to catch his thoughts again. <Traditions are things that people repeat, they learn from each other. Moral Values are things that people believe are right or wrong.> Before the creature could ask about that, he added quickly- <We'll talk about Right or Wrong in depth at some point but not now. It is too much.> Then he waited for another moment, pouring his now warmed stew into a bowl for himself.

Renathan sits down across from the creature at the thick wooden table, and watches him curiously. Right and Wrong already... Yeah, this was going less stellar than expected... {I get it} The creature offers. {So humanoids tend to see differences as important. I am very different. What does that mean?} Renathan was quiet for a moment, and then sent back across the link, as easily as he could. <Most would not consider you a person. I, however, do. I made a mistake, and did not know that Yumenokei were... Thinking, like us. I would not have had you created if I had known that, because I don't think it is okay to-> Renathan tried to figure out how to explain this. This was getting much harder, because coming up with images to try to give context to such ideas was hard, and he didn't know how much of that the Yumenokei needed seeing as how smart it seemed to be.

<To own a person.> He finished, by thinking as hard as possible about the training sessions he had with his non-thinking creatures. <I keep pets, mostly so that I know that they are being treated as well as possible. I don't think it is okay for anything to suffer needlessly.> He said, still sending images across the link to the best of his ability. The Yumenokei seemed to understand this much more easily than Renathan would have if he had been in the Yumenokei's situation. {So, I was meant to be a pet. Owned. You don't think I'm good to own now? What will happen to me? I don't think I know how to live on my own.} Renathan started to eat his own food, enjoying the breakfast he hadn't yet had this morning. <I am not going to abandon you. But I don't think it would be 'right' to treat you like a pet either. You are a person. Regardless.> Renathan pushed over, his mind made up.

Renathan mentioned this without missing a beat, the best he could, across the RoT. <I think we should proceed as if you were... An adolescent humanoid in comparison to a pet. I will need to provide you care, because you are permanently sick because... Well, because you aren't a ghost. I don't think you will be able to live on your own because of that. We will need to teach you about the world the best as possible, so that you can decide what you are comfortable being treated like.> He waited for a moment, to get an answer. The Yumenokei finishes his breakfast and takes a hearty drink from the water. He sends a vague affirmative across the link, not seeming to be too bothered. Perhaps because he didn't have any concepts of a lot of this so far. {What was I... Going to be for?} Renathan was not expecting that.

Renathan shook his head. <It really doesn't matter now. I am really, really sorry that you're in this situation now, but we are going to figure it out.> Renathan offered, finishing off the dregs of stew in his bowl. Renathan was quiet for a little while. He figured that at some point he was going to need to teach the creature how to communicate with others, it wouldn't be fair without it... He decided that one of the collars of speech at the kennels would be given to the Yumenokei, if at all possible in the future. He'd talk about it later, he wanted to give the Yumenokei enough time to mull over the complicated mass of information Renathan had tried to convey. Well, this was going halfway decent so far, he thought. <So, persons and pets alike have names. A designation for you. My name is> "Renathan." <Usually people give their pets a chosen name. However, it would be okay for you to pick your own name.> He mentioned, absent-mindedly.

The Yumenokei seemed a little confused about this, but seemed to push it off a bit with a sort of quasi-sentence of not being worried about that. Renathan chuckled. <Names are important, but you can figure your own name out in time, you don't have to right now. Other persons will need to know how to refer to you.> Renathan then collected their dishes, and placed them in the sink. He then stood there, watching the Yumenokei as it glanced around the room. Renathan offered, <Do you want to see the house?> Renathan knew that he would need to find a living space for the Yumenokei, and this sounded like a good time to do that. The Yumenokei sent a vague positive response, as if a bit bored, so he asked <I can help you to get down from the chair...?> The Yumenokei just seemed to figure out exactly how far down it was, and then hopped down himself, with a bit of almost surprising grace. Renathan chuckled at this, he figured the Yumenokei could walk itself well enough.

Renathan was slowly beginning to feel much better about this entire ordeal. Sure, he now had what basically amounted to a child to care for; while he also had a farm-full of creatures, but he figured that he might be able to deal with this, and maybe even thrive with it. He was hopeful that things would work out, but he also knew that intelligence even for humans was a complicated thing, and children were typically one of the biggest challenges of life. Renathan swallowed, and then lead the Yumenokei to the living room. <This is a room for entertainment. That thing over there-> He gestures to the large pit in the middle of the floor in which a fancy couch had been nestled, almost like a bed. <Is a couch. It is for sitting on.> He sent as many images as he possibly could to explain this. <That over there is a radio. Sounds come out of it, for communication and entertainment.> He gestures to the same, sending images as well to try to get it understood by the Yumenokei.

The Living room was impressively big, with a nice set of small fold-out black walnut tables for sitting drinks, and coasters. There was a bookshelf with some simple books over near the far wall next to the radio system. Renathan had this house carefully made; with enough credits, anyone can do anything. The Yumenokei didn't seem to be having any issues with these more simple concepts, or at least Renathan figured that they would be. Perhaps... Perhaps it was because the creature was a bit more intelligent than a typical child? He wasn't sure what kinds of concepts the Yumenokei would have difficulty with. In fact, he was really flying by the seat of his pants. Renathan walks over and turns the radio on to a quiet song, something without words that wasn't loud. The Yumenokei took this easily, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Then again, the creature had never really seen anything natural in order to make a distinction.

Renathan then leaves the radio on and leads the Yumenokei to the kitchen. <This is the kitchen, it is a room for food. If you ever want any food, let me know.> He knew that the spoken words would have to be taught in the future, because spoken language was incredibly different than the RoT thought swapping. <Until I figure out how to change the kitchen to make it to where you can easily get around, I will need to assist you.> The yumenokei didn't seem to want to argue, instead taking everything at face value. <The Table is a tradition; persons can eat there, but do not have to. It is the thing in the middle of the room. Pets do not normally eat at the table, they eat where they are.> That was the best he could explain it. The Yumenokei seemed to understand that, so Renathan pointed to the chairs. <The Chairs are for sitting at the table. I will try and find you a chair that is better for you.> Renathan didn't add that he might even make him one, himself. Renathan was quite handy.

Renathan then took his time, pointing to each appliance and explaining in the most succinct way that he mentally could through the RoT link what their use was. The Yumenokei seemed incredibly interested in how these things actually accomplished this; but Renathan didn't always know the exact methods, and he didn't really have the time to explain each one. Renathan would gently lead the creature to the mud room and back porch after this, explaining through the link that the mud room was for cleaning oneself when very dirty, and for laundry. The back porch was more of a patio; and was good for sitting on the porch swing, or sleeping in the hammock during the warm months. There was a small table, matching the foldable ones in the living room. Renathan then pointed out the back window, allowing the Yumenokei to see the large pool in the back yard that also lead in a complicated way to the clean man-made brook around the yard. Near the brook, a giant equillion slept, basking in the sun.
