Abigail stood outside of the mines, laden with supplies needed for the trip she was about the make. Beside her stood Fellow. Calm and collected as he looked up at her, head tilted to the side a bit. Studying Abigail as she had done to him so many times while training or around the kennels. In her arms was the total opposite of Fellow. Rowdy, growly and wiggling unceasingly. "Finlay stop that." she tightened her one armed grip on the small PHIL and he let out a squeak of surprise as the air was forced from his lungs in that split second. There was one precious second of silence as he considered Abigail's actions. Then Finlay started back up, grunting and nosing at Abby's gloved hands. He bit the leather hard, small baby teeth digging in as viciously as his little mouth could. Abby grimaced at his actions, lifting one eyebrow in exasperation. She squeezed him again with a firm "Stop." and he squeaked again before repeating the process, gnawing on the worn leather protecting Abigail's hands. Fellow let out a soft snort and gazed up at the clouded sky beseechingly it seemed. He shifted his stance, looking back to Abby. 1 (1/5 1/5 1/20)

Why on earth would this mammalian bring an untrained baby to the mines? The depths were not a joke to be had. They were serious business and should be treated as such. It was important work, finding gemstones and other creatures down below. Yet here they were again with a baby, a small untrained, rowdy baby. Who rather seemed like he would prefer to be chewing on a hunk of meat back in the kennels than be here with them. Abigail seemed to be thinking along the same vein as Fellow as she set her lantern down and used both hands to corral the little Phil, who was whining and flailing his little limbs around, making it incredibly difficult to hold onto him. She set him on the ground, hand firmly wrapped around on his leash and he still made a fuss, yanking against the leash and collar, chewing on it in a desperate bid to free himself. "If you can't calm down then I can't have you here." she spoke the words softly and Finlay's ears twitched at her. As he chewed on the leash. She moved to pick him up again and the little PHIL swiped at her with his claws. "Fine." she muttered exasperatedly and in one quick movement had scooped him up firmly in her arms. "Stay Fellow." no need to drag the dragon back to the kennels with her after all. He was a smart boy and would be safe by himself, she could at least trust him. 2 (2/5 2/5 2/20)

When she returned the sun had slid further across the sky. Together she and Fellow looked up at it and she shook her head. "Sorry Fellow, I know better." he slid his eyes to her in a way that gave off annoyance. She shrugged again and bent down, scratching her claws over his firm gleaming body. "Let's get to work ok? Let's find some shinies and maybe a creature or two to sell." he snorted when she finished speaking and flicked his tail. He stood and stretched slowly. She had made him wait and now she could wait for him. Leisurely he came out of his stretch and started for their little entrance to the mines. He couldn't help the bubbling in his chest as he stepped closer and closer to the musty smelling rocks. The temperature dropped as they approached and he stretched his neck out, sniffing the air. He was home. 3 (3/5 3/20)

Home at last. Oh the kennels were cush and cozy enough. He liked it there, but the mines was where he was born and raised. The mines... they were home. Abigail shifted her back pack and pulled the large wagon behind her. Though it was heavy now it would surely be heavier upon their return. At least that was what she hoped. They would fill it up well and good, to the very tippy top until it couldn't hold anything more. A small smile crossed her lips, fangs glinted as they entered the darkness of the mines. Abby took out a glowing stick and held it in front of her, still pulling the wagon with one arm on the straps. The light was bright in the darkness, sliding over the walls and causing shadows to jump and hide when they walked past. Soon the daylight behind them winked out of existence as they rounded a corner and it was just them in the darkness of the mines. 4 (4/5 4/20)

Abigail allowed Fellow to lead the way further into the darkness. She trusted his senses. They'd been through this very process many times before and truly she would be a fool if she did not trust him by now. his claws clicked on the dimly lit floor and his nose was to the air one moment, to the wall the next, scenting and enjoying the little walk they were having. Yes, home was relaxing. He took a deep breath, filled his lungs with the various smells of the mines. It wasn't just musty and damp earth he could smell, but the rocks themselves. They seemed to be practically alive, as he was. Another deep breath and a contented sigh at being back. Then it was time to put them both to work. He would find the right spot and they would begin to excavate it. Find the right spot, get the right rocks. 5 (5/5 +1 = 66 5/20)

He led them down the tunnel, their pace was slow, though this time it wasn't due to Fellow's leisurely pace but Abigails pulling the wagon that slowed them. She decided that she would need to train some creature to pull the wagon for her and then grimaced at the thought. That meant another creature in the mines, and what could she get to pull that wouldn't spook at the enclosed spaces? Surely it would be difficult to work with an Equillion or a Galabex. Confined spaced and them? Not likely. Rishka would have none of it. The finicky cat might consent to be ridden as a mount once in awhile, but Abby seriously doubted that the Estharne would want to accompany them into the mines just to be used to pull something. What would be small enough, bulletproof enough, to follow them into the mines? Yet strong enough to pull this cart of hers? 6 (1/5 6/20)

It was a conundrum. A species that was strong, sturdy, small of frame and one that didn't mind small cramped spaces. She shook her head with a breathy sigh. She pulled the cart a little harder, lugging the wheels over a dip in the floor. With a clatter, the cart lurched forward and continued its slow trundle forward. Fellow hardly paid the cart or Abby mind as he took a sharp left down a corner Abby hadn't noticed until Fellow vanished down it. She huffed and turned down it with the light, illuminating the dead end with annoyance. "Really Fellow?" she quipped eyebrows disappearing into her hairline as the gem dragon tilted his head at the wall. He huffed a bit and turned to face Abigail. She waited a moment, just to see what the dragon would do. He approached her and grunted, a sound like grating glass shards. Fellow pushed past Abby and the cart. 7 (2/5 7/20)

He got stuck squeezing between the cart and wall. Abby sighed again, shaking her head a bit. "Alright, one mistake." she laughed softly and pushed against the cart, allowing Fellow to pop out of the dead end with a scraping noise. Abigail had a little more trouble backing out the cart. It took several attempts but soon she was free of the dead end and back in the main tunnel. Fellow was sitting just on the outskirts of her light, staring at her expectantly. "Well go on Fellow." she waved the light stick at him, motioning him forward once again. He grumbled, that grating glass shards sound again and turned away, trotting into the darkness and leaving Abigail to follow him. Follow him she did, lugging the cart along, grunting when it caught a wheel on a large rock. She had to pause to free it before hurrying after her gem dragon. He might be able to see fine in the dark but she wasn't so gifted. 8 (3/5 8/20)

Thankfully her gem dragon had paused outside of the light, waiting for her at a Y section of the main tunnel. "Left or right?" she asked Fellow, knowing he wouldn't understand the words but would get the gist of her question. He tilted his head to the right then left, just watching Abby. He didn't move towards either path. Abigail took a few steps forward with the cart and paused. "Am I supposed to choose?" she muttered, scratching at her furred chin. "Well alright. Let's see here." she pointed to the right path, the wider of the two. "Let's head that way." seeing her point Fellow stood and trotted down the right path. Abigail pulled the cart down the right path and they resumed their walking. "It always takes a while doesn't it Fellow?" she asked, not expecting the dragon familiar to respond. He grunted at the sound of his name but otherwise made no sound. 9 (4/5 9/20)

He led them in silence for many minutes before catching a whiff of something. It was faint, ever so faint, but it was something that would be pleasing to find. So he trotted to the left of the tunnel, into a narrow path that the cart could not possibly travel down. Abigail pulled the cart to a stop when Fellow disappeared again and upon seeing the path she nodded to herself and placed rocks beneath each of the cartwheels to prevent it from rolling away. Then she squeezed into the tunnel after Fellow and followed him to a dead end where he had already dug his claws into soft dirt. She fiddled with her backpack and loosed the shovel. Then without a word she went to work with Fellow, digging at the soft dirt that he had found. She wasn't sure what he thought was here but again, she had learned to trust his instincts, even if he did make a mistake once in a while. Abby smiled to herself. 10 (5/5 +1 = 67 10/20)

The Karzik had a ton of gems with it, held within it's claws, or so it felt like a ton of gems to a flying creature with such little strength. It could feel that there was another mineral in the soil close to here; other than the three it held- but it felt like a metal. The karzik comes zooming down the mining shaft, looking for that mineral. One could easily say, it craved that mineral. However; once it got there it realized that there was already a couple of beings there; one of these gemmy dragon things, and something that it hadn't seen before and couldn't really place! The karzik's curiosity was piqued; could it wait for these beings to do the work and then try to steal the mineral? It was trying to be quiet, it really was, but the humming of it's really thick and chitinous wings gave it away. [1-10]

There was something behind them. Something that hadn't been there before. The soft humming noise gave it away and Abigail turned around to see what had snuck up on them Fellow also turned around at Abigails unusual movements, movements not related to digging out the soil. "Hello there." Abbys voice was soft, a little sing song in nature. "What yave you got there? Little shineies? Are you looking for more shinies? of course the little beast wouldn't understand her, but her voice was soft and non-threatening. She leaned her shovel behind her, against the dirt and Fellow snorted softly. There always had to be a distraction, didn't there? The gem dragon turned back to the dirt and began digging, though he shifted his stance so he could side eye the Karzik. You couldn't be too careful down here after all. "What do you think little one? Are we big and scary? Are you going to run off with your little horde?"11 (1/5 11/20)

The karzik looked terrified at first; with the strange being making some kind of noises at it. The Karzik waited for a little bit, trying to decide to flee or stay for a moment. It really wanted the mineral that it could feel around here, but it also was quite frightened... However, in a moment of curious insight, the karzik clicked back at the creature. At first it was a loud, agitated clicking. When it felt like it had made itself quite scary (and puffed up to boot) it zoomed a little closer, looking at the wall intently. The soft voice rang out again, and it turned toward the strange soothing creature, turning its head sideways. A soft click, and then another short click. If the creature was going to make noises at the karzik, then the karzik would make noises back.

She could tell the little creature was scared, the way it looked at her and Fellow. "Easy there." but before she could finish her sentence it clicked at her, loud an several times. Almost an uneasy clicking noise, if a click could be... uneasy? Now it was puffing up, making itself look bigger and stronger. She had to laugh at that. If she really wanted to she could poof herself up much larger, but that would be the wrong body language to send to the Karzik. A quick movement, sudden, and it was closer to the duo. Intently eyeballing the dirt wall they had been working at. Well... that Fellow was still working at. He had his claws sunk deep into the dirt, pulling clawfuls out to the ground. The dragon eyeballed the Karzik and grunted, the sound like glass grating against rock. "You're both going to be noisy then?" she asked, stretching a hand out very slowly, very carefully, towards the Karzik to get a sniff at, a closer look at. "Easy there little one." she crooned a soft voice and then just as slowly she reached out with her other hand and moved the shovel out of the way, leaving an open space for a third to dig, if it chose to stick around. 12 (2/5 12/20)
