Ehalio S'Omen (Garden of Apples)
[A short walk into the woods near the Hideout's main building, one can see a very odd sight. To begin with, there seems to be a specific area separated from the rest of the forest with a fence. It's a quite high and dense one as well, as to avoid any critters trying to invade it. When passing through the gate, you first come to a quite large and very deep artificial pond. The bottom is sand and stone, while the edge is flanked with cobblestones. Paths paved with large pieces of cut limestone seem to lead to various other parts of this odd area. Where the pond narrows, enough to make a crossing, there is a bridge, consisting entirely of a very large and long piece of limestone, forming a walkway of sorts. All around one can see several apple trees and quite many berry bushes. There's thorn berries, raspberries, wild strawberries, black currants, blueberries and red currants. Even tho not all of them seem to be ripe just yet. In addition to those, you can spot a few plum tree's here and there, accompanied by various beds of flowers all around.]

Orchis (masculine) The season was once more turning towards the cold, and although the mammalian liked the cooler styles of summer, the autumn and winter portions of the seasons here left her somewhat wistful of the hottest summer days. In truth, the winters more often than not made her a bit of a recluse, as if refusing to leave the warmth of the home. The truth was not far off.. More often she found it far more welcoming to remain inside than head out into the cold, even if the cold could sometimes be beautiful in and of itself.
Alas, duties still called and while the droid could handle most of her tasks in a more remote manner, there were still some that required the personable touch. In this case, quite literally. The droid was good for a great many things, but her more straightforward manner didn't always translate well to something more tender, like tending to a garden. The creatures here, few enough though they were, would sooner flee from her sight than approach.

The caution could even apply to herself as well. No sooner did the sphinx walk through the gate, tools in hand, that several eyes picked up her presence. Most of them were lola, all too familiar with her person, and even the unfamiliar were generally gentle-minded enough as to not mind the intrusion. But, there were also the rest.. Darky was certain she had some types of plant creatures within her possession, though for the lack of visual evidence she sometimes wondered how true that was. The lack of time spent in the gardens meant the rest could be quite estranged, despite previous attempts to bond with them.
It's something she needed to work, albeit it seemed far more difficult a task than any other she had undertaken. For some reason, the earth didn't quite call to her like the others did, perhaps because it was just far too.. green, for her sensibility. Green was good, but it also made her a little confused as to the exact process of.. keeping it green.

Fortunately, the shift from green to yellows, reds, browns and greys was a seasonal staple around this time of the year, rather than her lack of trying. (In truth, she continued to be surprised the garden survived as well as it did anyway, being tended by someone whose closest connection between earth and plants was sandy dunes and hardy desert plants that needed little tending). It made some trees and bushes more bare than others, making it easier to spot some of the more reclusive inhabitants.. but also did well to hide the rest.
For example, the branchaeopter. She'd visited the garden once before to try and make some connection with him and although the results were largely ambiguous, the turn of the season meant he, too, would shift from green to browns and reds. Thus, it made for a little bit more difficulty to spot him among the various remaining plants in the garden. He was around, as much she was sure, although the exact location could be questionable.

The sphinx gave a short, low whistle.. but nothing seemed to respond, save for a few curious lola heads. Hmm.. Well, he was around here somewhere, as much she was certain. Orchis liked to parade around the garden on sunnier days, but when things were overcast as that day, he would recluse away somewhere, or try and hunt down something to eat. To his credit, the insect population within the garden had certainly been kept under wonderful control, with the other plant creatures hardly looking to be bothered by any pesky parasites. So could be he was hiding away on purpose.. or could be he was just hungry and on the prowl.
Her eyes scanned the trees, trying to spot any movement. Usually the branchaeopter likes to perch up high, the better to have a finer view of the area. But with the trees so bare and the air much cooler, he might not be looking to exert himself too much for the effort.

While his kind had wings, they were more for gliding around, rather than straight-up flight. Scampering up and down the trees wouldn't have been as much of an awkward ungodly sight if the garden was still in bloom. Now, though, would've more a sight for embarrassment, and the brancheopters keen sense of pride probably didn't allow such.
So the sphinx kept her eyes closer to the ground level of things. If he was anywhere, then probably among what few remaining bushes still retained their colours and leaves. A short whistle is given every now and again to see what attentions are garnered, as she suspected the wiggling worms in the jar she carried weren't quite enough enticement to get attention from far away. Once attention was had, now that would have been a different story, but first she had to get that far to begin with.
All the while, the general state of the garden made her realize that perhaps more hands-on time was needed, considering the late summer and early fall storms have left quite a few branches needing clearing, not to mention the fallen leaves.

Oof. The shoulders sagged some under the weight of that thought.. While most of it was finer debris, some of the branches here and there looked to be more larger casualties to the storms. Moving those, alone, would've have been a task onto itself. Although perhaps she could convince the tat-lung to come by and help.. Mear certainly wouldn't oppose, and what marring was caused to the ground could also be something he might be able to fix in the same go.
As for the leaves, perhaps the shijin could assist with that, via some precision gusts of wind, to gather them up in one place. To be sure, the garden residents might not take well to the presence of tat-lung, due to their size if nothing else (Though perhaps a few of them might remember the fish either Mear or Detritus used to be, all those years back). The commotion might have even been a better way to flush out the brancheopter, considering her current efforts.

"Orchis!" the sphinx called, stepping over a particular piece of bramble strung across the path. There was a pause, as her mind caught up with what just happened, before she turned around and started clearing out the bramble instead. Most of it was picked up and pushed aside, to settle beneath the bushes, while some of the more stubbornly rooted ones were trimmed off using the pocket knife, and gathered into a pile beyond the bushes.
There.. Just because she was on task didn't mean she couldn't do a bit of tidying up in the meantime. After all, this was something she actually owned, and thus was responsible for. The mansion might have plots of lands and gardens overgrown with all sorts of things (seasons permitting) which would be rude to touch, but this small bit of land here? It didn't exactly have her name on it, but it was assigned to her, so she best care for it, even if haphazardly.

Carrying on, she continued to call out, trying to go for more of a sing-song tone than last, "Orchiiis?" while lightly rattling the jar of worms. For all the good it would do.. The branchaeopter was still somewhat estranged from her, despite the previous attempts at bonding, so she didn't really blame him from not connecting the sound to something even close to the concept of a name. Although the jar of worms might still help with that.. if he actually showed his face.
"Where are you, buddy?" a hand brushed away a low-hanging branch and she carefully maneuvered past beneath it, to the thickets beyond. Most of these bushes were already bare, having shed their leaves, while the rest stubbornly persisted to keep them on, even as they were starting to turn rusty red and in some cases even brown. The leaves on the ground beneath softly crunched and shuffled as she stepped across it.

Among all the red-orange hues (with a good touch of brown) there was none the less a bit of other kind of colour too. As she stepped through the blanket of leaves, something brushed against her foot. It wasn't a root, for it rolled as she bumped it, and it wasn't a creature or bug, for it remained stationary shortly after. The sphinx leaned down and brushed off some of the leaves, only to reveal.. Well, she wasn't quite sure what it was..
A fruit, of some description, though none she had seen before, with a pattern that made it look almost fantasmal (And as someone who had to pass through the jungles on the way to the City, she saw quite a few fantastic style of fruit even that early on). If anything, the colours almost made it look rather poisonous..
The leaves rustled not too far away from her, this time not of her own step, and her attention quickly moved over there. "Orchis?"

Sure as rain, a branched head popped up from among the bushes, small beady eyes turning towards her direction. In the barken beak was something red, which the sphinx almost thought to assume prey of some sort (Perhaps a mouse, or a rat), until a squint of the eyes showed it wasn't actually blood, just berries clumped up and coloured much like it.
"There you are.." the sphinx smiled, slowly standing up and raising the jar, "Been looking all over for you, buddy. Look here, I've got some treats for you. Would you like some?"
The brancheopter's head tilted, as it's bark mouth briefly clacked together into what sounded almost like a curious cluck. As a result, the berries dropped back to the ground, settling among the fallen leaves. It took a bit of putting two-and-two together, given most of him was hidden, but the sphinx eventually figured he must have climbed the bush to some extent in order to find something to eat. Elsewise, the relatively short stature and matching plumage would've made him quite invisible among the thicket.
