Lethalia found herself instantly attracted to the newer sort-of shop set up on the outskirts of town; the forests and fields outside of the city were her regular haunt, after all. There was nothing that could be more appealing to the woman, a little log cabin shoppe cropping up in the middle of nowhere she liked most!
Even the shop itself appealed to the satyr, with baskets of wares and cozy curtains and hardwood. Why, it looked nearly like her house!
It was all so new and exciting that she didn't even have a problem coercing another patron to read the billboard off to the side of her main desk; quests now? The idea might have brought a smirk to her lips, familiar as she was with the term, especially how the term was quite useful in getting young adventurers like she used to be to do your bidding. 'Do you want to do a grand quest for me? Return with ten rabbits' hides and I will reward you!'
The contents of this task were exactly the type of thing she'd expected to hear - rid my garden of pests!
She was no errand bitch; she wasn't about to go on a fetch task for someone who accosted her in the streets. But... there was a chance she was more susceptible to boredom than she'd like to admit, and the stayr had been doing nothing but wallowing in it for the winter. A task, no matter how banal, was as good as any reason to get herself out of the house. Lethalia found herself committing the garden's lot number to memory as soon as she heard it, and later in the day found her ambling down the garden lots with Nolan at her side. It was one of those things where you're sitting and home, and then suddenly your brain decides something else is happening - sometimes it takes a moment to catch up on the fact you acted without explicitly deciding to.

Admittedly with the mention of bugs, she had a slight thought of just bringing her fire-breathing (not) dragon. Somehow though Lethalia had the strangest feeling that a farmer with prized veggies growing wouldn't appreciate a sarane-torched field to be rid of their pests. Nolan might be fiery in a different way, but he also wasn't prone to sparking and smoldering at the slightest transgression. He also just tends to follow her places when she lets him. Which was near always; the vulti looked crestfallen if she ever traveled with Mavelle or Vidarr instead.
Lethalia still pined for fire, keep her distance away from the creepy-crawlies. She wasn't generally the most 'delicate' of women, quite willing to deal with her scaly beasts and getting herself all manner of filthy. It seemed bugs were where she drew her line, no matter how little it mattered how that was what got her skin crawling. She didn't even have to look for the plot intended, the organic writhing visible from several acres away. Those weren't plants, or even plant creatures for that matter. Unhappily, she sought it out, creeping closer to the scourged plot.
"Oh, Nolan!" Expecting them or not, the satyr couldn't stand how painfully girly the shriek she let out was. Giant green caterpillars, ranging from palm- to forearm-sized, gorging themselves on an otherwise beautiful garden.
Kill it, kill it with fire! Where was her hellhound's balefire when she needed it?! Scratch that, needed her fire breathing dragon right now!
Nolan yipped in response to his owner's distress, springing into a crouch to defend her against what had made her react - eventually leading to laying down with his tail wagging aggressively, because... what? He peered up at her with black eyes, questioning with the perk of his ears; there wasn't anything out to 'get' her like it had sounded like, was there?

Lethalia bit her lip, beckoning Nolan to come with her into the wiggling threshold. He shot up and followed her in, walking right up to sniff a fat grub. The satyr wanted with all her might to shoo him away, but that was what they were here for, wasn't it?
"Nolan!" she called again, more playfully exuberant this time, instantly garnering his attention.
Though she never would have thought herself capable of the feat, Lethalia had to do it before she had a chance to think too much on it. While she had Nolan's full attention, she snatched a chubby caterpillar off of the nearest broad sranefruit leaf. Just the brief moment she had the creature in her hand Lethalia felt her stomach jerk, skin instantly crawling with the give of it's slimy soft flesh beneath her fingers.
"Gogetit!" She threw that giant sucker as hard as she could. Away, away! Oh gods. The satyr's hoof jerked out of the grasp of another that was feeling her out for potential to eat or scale, stomping right back down to a rather explosive end.
Nolan had gone ripping off after the green 'ball' and practically kicking up caterpillars in his wake. He didn't really need to be told to go get something soaring across the air. Diving on the nearest gren lump that might've been what his owner threw, he was disappointed to find nothing but goo and bits of carcass beneath his paws. Bewildered, his horned head pops up, yipping accusingly at his owner. Did she trick him and keep the ball behind her back!?
"Get it, Nolan!" Lethalia is absolutely not proud of how her voice comes out in a higher octave in distress, feeling near like hurling while she wiped bug guts off her hoof into the gravel. There'd better not be anybody around working on their gardens to hear her.
Mulling it over for a moment, the vulticus' gaze lingered accusingly on his owner before returning to his previous trajectory. If she says it's still out here... Once he actually looked, the canine pauses - so many green things! That was what she threw, right? A playful twist of his head and growl as he spots a rather fat caterpillar ambling by; there it was! Or it was closest to him, at any rate.

Nolan bounced over, bowing in front of the bug and giving it a quick swipe with his paw, skittering back to yip up a storm when it jiggled aggressively in response to that quick bop. Another hop closer, bop with his paw, more barking - this was fun!
"G'on, get it! Fetch!" she encouraged again, hoping she could trick Nolan into helping her with this task without being able to tell him to outright attack the bugs. If only she had more bug-eaters at home, but there was no chance her mother and son pair of faeron could eat caterpillars fatter than they are.
Oh, bring it to her, right. Another lunge forward to try and scoop it up in his jaws, barely able to enclose on the insect with it bulging comically on either side of his maw. An attempt at lifting and the unfortunate critter burst along the seams, water balloon like with it's spontaneous eruption. "Good boy, Nolan! Go get 'em!" Lethalia piles on the praise, almost glued in one spot herself as she tried to mull over what to do about this herself. Nolan wasn't the most helpful company to take. It was beginning to sound like a pathetic cry when she asked her pet to 'get them' for her. It's not like he's really getting it or anything. The motivation behind any pursuit of bugs was likely still the original one; get ball! At least with him it's a strong motivator, that dogged determination to please his person any way he can. So when his second 'ball' explodes, he instantly rounds on another, nipping at a leaf and taking away half of a caterpillar with it.
Ugh. Lethalia contented herself with swatting the bugs off of the plants and into the stone path where she could easily stomp on them. She's not getting that on her hands, no way - nor is she going to watch her 'dog' basically eat them. Hulp. Happily, she couldn't feel them squelch underhoof, though she could feel the give of pressure dispersed as they burst.
It was slick underhoof when she walked. Gods, Gods, just kill her now...
Between a Vulticus' energy and picking off the creatures too high up for him to reach, the infestation dwindled to look less like a writhing mass. Having gotten this far, she wasn't much interested in not getting paid because a few pests remained. Not that she cared much for compensation, but she didn't think the removal of a few bugs would be so harrying! Hope they enjoyed their garden of bug-goo..

Lethalia didn't even want a drink of the sugar she'd packed in her bag when she returned to it to find the caterpillars had also assaulted her bag where she'd dropped it. It was damn tempting to let them have it. She couldn't quite allow herself to be that childishly avoidant. They were all small and wiped off her bag with minimum effort but certainly a lot of gagging, especially when she pulled her capped soda out to find several wrapped around the metal cap. Odd to see them after something like this instead of veggies, but it did give her an idea... Gardening was just not a thing she'd ever gotten into, nor did she really relish in cultivating them like creatures. She had known about setting a beer trap out for slugs just because it was such a common practice, and part of it was a little humorous. Since she was just going to sacrifice that soda to the pests, she might as well sacrifice it meaningfully... Lethalia sought out the largest bucket she could in the gardener's pile, a large shallow rubber trough. The soda bottle, once she shook off the caterpillars beginning to amass on it, was poured into a taller, narrow bucket and placed in the center of the larger one. And then, she just needed to fill the large bucket with water, making a simple trap to drown the stragglers in. The bucket already looked like it would do the job, caterpillars already inching up the side to check it out. There! Now she didn't think they could complain. Nolan wandered over to her as she was shutting off the hose spigot. His coat was matted together in parts where bug guts started to congeal, ugly smears that changed colors over his skull and horns. And he was panting contentedly around some green ball he found, looking happy with solving her ultra-hard fetch quest. "Great job, buddy! Good Nolannnn," she crooned, overly pleased that her buggy threat was over - or less. "Wait, wait, Nolan -" He was so happy and excited to be praised! And so coated in bug goo, and come see her in his joy! "NononoNolanno-"Nolan enjoyed this version of fetch, where his owner is what he's fetching, yay! Nolan lv|16 ly|39

You have succeeded! After lots of work, the caterpillars slowly begin to show up less and less, until you are able to locate the nest! Feel free to continue roleplaying if you would like, but you will be sent your prize soon.
