Morgan understood that. "I was wondering, because I would like to take you two to a few interesting places in the City to learn about it, but I wasn't sure if it would be better to wait until you two are mature, or take you as you are." The two tat-lungs being confined to water certainly made certain aspects of Labs-Life that people generally took creatures out to very difficult for them. Morgan couldn't just take the fish beneath the ground to the mines (not that Morgan enjoyed the mines at all, nor would Morgan take them down there), or out to the mansion (which was where Morgan would generally have taken them, since it was such a neat and odd area that Morgan also wanted to study; two birds with one stone, right?). It was a bit frustrating, but Morgan knew that at least for Seimei, they probably wouldn't stay in fish form at all. Morgan was actually incredibly curious about the two; what would the metamorphosis look like? Was it like tadpoles, where they would grow legs first? Or was it like something else? Morgan could not just ask them, because they would not know at this point, right?
Morgan knew that the next few things that they wanted to teach the Tat-lungs were going to require some extra explanations. They would also require much more work than Morgan knew that they had time to put in today. Morgan hoped that they would not grow up before they got finished with some of these more important lessons; the self-protection lessons. They were highly important, to keep the Tat-lungs safe. Undoubtedly, they would be spending a lot more time than Morgan would like exploring the City; there was no real way to keep a dragon inside if they really, really wanted to be outside, and it would be cruel to keep them from doing what they wished. So it was tantamount that they be protected. Morgan was waiting for the beast that would help them learn how to deal with fear properly to come by, but it was seeming more and more like the individual was going to be late; which was frustrating at best. Morgan was not used to hiring such incompetent people. However, this did allow for a bit of extra time with the tat-lungs, despite Morgan's sore muscles and exhaustion. Morgan would have loved to have been at home right now, and knew that the tat-lungs were getting bored, as well.
Morgan was thinking of the list that they were planning on training, and trying to figure out if there was anything else that could be added to it while they were young and willing to learn more menial things at least a small amount. Perhaps the follow command wouldn't be too bad, if it was presented as a signal to let them know to follow quietly? That would be a good idea, in case there was any danger in the future, but Morgan was really hesitant about suggesting anything that may be seen as an insult to them. They were not, after all, truly pets, they were quite intelligent, and that made for difficulty training, of course. Perhaps stay would also be useful? For the opposite reasons of the 'follow' command, of course. It was quite hard to think of them as commands in the context of the tat-lung, but perhaps that issue with thinking would cause issues in the long run? Morgan would have to ponder this possible issue to make sure that it was not too much of a problem.
The two tat-lungs watched Morgan boredly. Perhaps Morgan should have brought some toys for enrichment exercises? Oh; that made Morgan get a good idea! Perhaps teaching them to search for things would be good in the long run!
Morgan wasn't planning on staying there too much longer; if the individual didn't come back soon, the bespectacled human was planning on taking the tat-lungs back home soon enough, anyway. Morgan didn't want to wait there and waste the rest of the day away cold, wet, and stiff with sore muscles. Morgan did not exactly like the smell of the loch, either, so it was especially a bit bothersome that the tat-lungs were water-bound for now. It was a real issue. However, Morgan planned on eventually having all of the different kinds of tat-lung. Morgan was not exactly sure what the deal was; why they felt so compelled to care for all of the tat-lungs possible, but Morgan was ready to take on the challenge. No one else was as suited, Morgan conceitedly thought, to make a home for Dragons as Morgan was.
Ryuusei and Seimei were already playing some kind of a game that had been started because they seemed to have found something beneath the waters of the loch. Ah well, they would be easy enough to get into the tanks now, especially since they had an idea of a few of the commands. Morgan shook their head, patiently.
Perhaps working with the fish forms of adolescent tat-lungs would be a positive change for Morgan's current struggle? Morgan thought about this a bit, as they watched the gold and pearl tat-lungs chasing each other around, with Ryuusei holding something shiny in his mouth... Hopefully the tat-lung would not choke, but Morgan also wasn't going to bother the creature. He would have to learn to take care of himself, even if he mostly did so himself, anyway. There were now a few more things that they could work on, next time they came out to the docks anyway, and that would be a good thing. They needed to spend more time together, if they were going to really be well bonded by the time they matured, anyway.
Sure, the fact that the individual that Morgan was going to pay to bring their 'frightening' creature this go around was late or missing was... Unfortunate, but this would give them an excuse to come back at least one more time before the two of them grew. Perhaps in two days? Morgan was sure that they at least had a week before Seimei would grow, or at least that was what they thought perhaps.
After about ten more minutes, Morgan was done waiting. They put the whistle to their lips and called out the signal for 'come', with both tat-lungs heeding the call interestingly enough. Morgan loaded them up into the travel tanks, giving one last look after they were done out over the loch and around just in case the individual with the 'scary' pet was around. It was good to have a 'scary' pet encounter for Labs creatures early on, so that they could learn how to properly react to and keep from being scared to death of certain things. Morgan was in no way planning on ever entering into the pit, but it was still good to make sure that creatures had ways of protecting themselves in case someone's rogue drake sarane got out and started terrorizing the neighborhood. This happened semi-frequently, enough for Morgan to once again think that perhaps the denizens of the Labs City were perhaps a bit... Ridiculous at best.
Morgan dragged the wagon with them on the way off of the docks, muscles all sore again. They were going to have to take another shower, and then perhaps have another soak in the hot springs again. Their body was really tired...
They were back the next morning, bright and early, a breakfast had been wolfed down and now it was time to start working on more lessons. Morgan knew that they only had this morning to do this, and it needed to be done right away. Seimei was already getting so big; Morgan was afraid that he would make his transformation soon, and that would not be good, since he wasn't yet confident and properly socialized. The bespectacled human was dressed in swimming gear again, but was not personally planning on getting into the loch theirself. They transferred both tat-lungs to the loch, and then took their own place sitting on the dock, legs dangling close to the water. Morgan had not yet decided exactly what they would start with, but knew that there were quite a few little menial things that probably needed to be worked on before they got too much older and were too high and mighty to really deal with it.
"I have another concept to talk to you two about." Morgan both spoke and conveyed through the ring's powers. "This time, we are going to talk about another signal; it is quite similar in concept to the signal that lets you two know where I am at." Morgan took up the mantle of teacher, and spoke authoritatively, but calmly.
Ryuusei seemed fairly relaxed, but Seimei was quite uptight. Morgan tried not to feel sorry for him, but they really did not have time for Morgan to try to help him along any. They were burning morning light it seemed, and they did not have long to work today. "I'll be using the whistle again, from yesterday." Morgan held it up for good measure. "There will be a difference between the two signals. We'll make it as simple as possible, so that it won't be hard to tell them apart from long distances." Morgan put the whistle to their lips, and made the soft call of a command; a sort of 'Whew-whoo' noise that could hardly be heard; it was meant to be super quiet. "This noise is supposed to let you know to stay where you are. This would be good in case any of us are in trouble, or in case there is a possible danger the other ones doesn't see." Morgan attempted to explain this in a way that both tat-lungs would be okay with it, and not insulted. Interestingly enough, Seimei did not attempt to fight back verbally. Morgan raised an eyebrow in his direction, curiously.
Ryuusei seems to be full of questions, on and on. Lots of what ifs, and what do we do in this or that imagined scenario, and even questions about whether or not it was common to be attacked in the Labs City. Ryuusei seemed to get the concept of danger, but he seemed... Excited about it, more so than worried or anything else that would have been normal reactions to finding out perhaps for the first time that the world outside was dangerous. That was interesting, for sure. Tat-lungs thought quite differently from humanoids it would seem; they were much more like puppeteers and chess-masters than the pawns on the board. However, Morgan was used to seeing things from a loftier than normal standpoint as well, despite the fact that it was becoming more and more obvious that the dragons were way ahead of Morgan in that regard. A bit saddening, but fine.
Ryuusei on the other hand just seemed to listen, and who knew what his thoughts and reasonings were within his own mind? Morgan got done explaining the concept of the 'stay' suggestion (not command, not to these two) and what to do in that case, to both of the Tat-lungs, and then waited a moment to see what the general consensus was thus far.
Stay was such a simple concept, it was really amazing that normal creatures were so difficult to convey this to. Of course, it would probably be just as hard, if not more so difficult, if Morgan did not have the tat-lung ring, that allowed them to speak with the creatures. It allowed them to make certain steps of the learning process quite easy, if not too easy to really set the point of doing it down properly in a way that would be understandable. "Seimei, Ryuusei, do you feel confident with the concept of the stay signal? We will be going over the sound again, of course, because it is important for us to be able to communicate both covertly and at some amount of distance." This would allow for them to work as a team, if they ever needed to. Morgan hoped that they would never need to, but they had realized recently that if they proceeded with their plan, Morgan may actually have someone after them eventually...
Morgan wasn't typically a paranoid person, but this was at least somewhat warranted. Both tat-lungs seemed fine with the entire thing, as fine as they could be. Morgan was relieved that it had not been seen as an insult.
Morgan spent the next ten minutes practicing with them, or rather, giving the correct whistle, and asking them what that one meant to do, and then giving the other whistle signal they knew and asking them what that one meant. The game got boring for the two of them very quickly, and Morgan did not blame them for being quite bored after that. Even Ryuusei seems a bit off put by the repetition when Morgan was finally done. They didn't slip up between the two not once, but Morgan wanted to make sure that the two definitely got it down before moving on to something else. They didn't really have a whole lot of time to really wait much longer, so Morgan made sure that they had it one last time before beginning to decide what they needed to work on next.
The two creatures began playing a game nearly immediately, finding a few odd things in the waves. Perhaps they needed to break up the monotony? That gave Morgan an idea; they could break up the more menial lessons with a more exciting one; learning how to dodge danger. That was a good idea; Morgan found it odd that they hadn't thought of it before.
Morgan was not entirely certain how to properly explain this concept to the two in a way that would make sense and be amenable to both of them at the same time. Then again, they worked on the tat-lungs tolerance to being touched yesterday, and managed to convince Seimei to do that. It was a huge hurdle, so perhaps this wouldn't be too difficult, either. What would the bespectacled human use to do the training, however? Morgan hadn't brought anything too specific... The idea suddenly hit them, the tiny pebbles that were on the side of the docks on the shore would be a great idea, right? Morgan stood up, and moved off of the dock to begin collecting as many stones as they could fit in their pockets and hands. After a moment or two, they realized that both of the tat-lungs were watching them do so. "I am picking up stones, so that we can work on the next lesson." Morgan explained.
Morgan knew that the tat-lungs would be interested to know what the next lesson would be, but Morgan wanted to have as many rocks as possible. As soon as they managed to get as many rocks as they could carry, Morgan made their way back over to the dock and sat back down.
Morgan had not yet trained this particular thing before, but they knew, like anyone else that lived around here for long, that it was required for creatures to be able to protect themselves, and that it was not all that difficult to train. Time consuming, yes, but not difficult. Morgan knew that they did not have a lot of time today, but they should have about three more hours, at least. This should only take up one of those hours, if the two took to it correctly. With most creatures, Morgan would just toss the rock at them, but Morgan did not want to bust the trust that they had began to seed here with the (hyper-sentient) tat-lungs. Morgan made sure that all the rocks were on the docks, so that they didn't have to pull any of them out of their pockets. "This one will be fun, if you two are interested in learning something to protect yourselves." Morgan said, simply. The two tat-lungs were immediately interested, with Ryuusei looking quite excited, and Seimei trying NOT to look excited.
The bespectacled human was pleased. Maybe this will be much easier than Morgan had originally thought?
The blond human had expected at least one of the two to cause some sort of issue before explaining, about having to protect themselves (namely Seimei) but it was seemingly a bit of a non-stress experience thus far. It suddenly made sense as to why Morgan was receiving negligible push back; Ryuusei had been trying to get Seimei to be more cooperative in his own way, it would seem, and Seimei had indeed been hurt previously. Perhaps this would help with the healing process for Seimei? Morgan was sure that it would in some small way, giving the tat-lung back his power, his ability to feel confident would be the best possible outcome.
"One of the most common, but absolutely required, methods of learning to protect yourself is learning to dodge an attack. It should be first nature for you to feel an attack coming, to see it out of the corner of your eyes or feel it across your skin." Morgan used the ring's power to communicate and speaking common at the same time on purpose, to make sure that the two could understand. "I would hope that you two never have to use it, but it will be helpful in the long run."
Morgan had to explain the process of it soon, but wanted to give both Tat-lungs a chance to speak first, ask questions if they wanted to, or voice concerns. This building of trust was incredibly important, Morgan knew. Morgan hated to think of it that way, but it was very possible that tat-lungs had the psycho-social bonds as well, since supposedly the labs created them. The bespectacled human was not really sure that the Labs had actually did this; they supposedly were not proponents of slave-ownership, but for a place that supposedly did not condone it, they sure did mass-produce free slaves on a regular basis... That made Morgan feel odd; it just didn't add up. Of course, the Labs could be and probably were lying about a lot of things. It was a conundrum.
"Do you two have any questions, so far?" Morgan asked, politely. They weren't quite used to speaking this much, the human tended to be a quiet person in general. The two Tat-lungs seemed to glance at each-other for a moment, and then Ryuusei answered; "Will we be attacked very often?" Morgan shook their head. "No." Then Morgan added, "I just don't want you two to be in danger if the worst happens."
