Look... okay. By now, she should have known better. Maybe Leth was chasing a result that was possible but unlikely, like she was holding out hope that something unexpected would crop up. Nevermind it was insanity to repeat the same action and expect a different result. Vidarr was passing on stupidity like it was genetic, Rimefang's babies were furious at the world from the shell, Esti somehow didn't produce anything worthwhile and Stark lost interest in hens almost entirely. Insanity; she still kept trying. This stunning opaline hen was the almost outlier she'd been looking for. Blue eyes on a snow-washed red hen, and hopeful thorn buds instead of peach fuzz on her tail. Juniper was wonderful. Her scales shone both with her dam's light and sire's iridescence, with flurries of snow coming off of her from the shell. Juniper was just amazing, or she would be... That was kind of the thing, though. Drop dead gorgeous was only such a redeeming trait when there was otherwise so much spite in such a tiny package. Who would have thought that coupling a tundra wolverine who hated the world and an insanely opinionated desert dweller would result in... something angry from the get-go. Lethalia would cart the henling around anyway, just like she had done with every previous whelp. Juniper wasn't going to become any less of a bitch without contact with her, now was she? Taking more after the previous generation, Juni was growing at a rate that suggested she'd be full sized in mere moments compared to the years it took the more sluggish ones. That of course made things more difficult, when she couldn't just pick the hen up and haul her off where ever she pleased. If that was the case, it was so much easier to plop them in a mine cart and go. May|2

Juniper was already past being ferried around places by equillion, and definitely wouldn't be squeezing into a mine cart anytime soon. The little wretch had even figured out that she could bite clean through leather the first time such a leash was even attempted. Though Lethalia had long considered breathing a plume of fire to be the most worrying thing a creature could do, she was beginning to respect the multitude of quieter abilities she'd decided to breed into Juni's line. For a smaller hen, she ought to have enough tricks up her sleeve to give anyone a bad time. Including her owner, just trying to get the hen somewhere they could explore and bond and have a great time together. The muzzle probably didn't help things, but neither did the hen trying to take a chunk out of her whenever she moved in a way Juniper deemed too sudden. May|3

Leth didn't really think the henling would be able to bite trough a chain leash given the chance, lacking either fire or acid in her veins.. but one could never be sure. At least a muzzle meant they didn't need to worry about it today, instead attached with a robust leather one. If she was smart enough, a chain could likely be shattered by the cold anyway. Juni didn't seem like she was all that of a deep thinker, but too early to tell yet if she'd remain that way. It was one of the few times she didn't have issues wrestling a pet past the gate, if only because Juni's handicaps prevented her from being a bigger terror than she otherwise would. Gods knew her focused, intense glowering might bode ill for the future once she was able to shrug off her fetters. There was hope yet they'd be on good terms before that happened, right? Or at least the satyr was the type of person to keep trying until Juniper proved to her explicitly otherwise. May|4

"See? Not s'bad, huh Juni?" she tried, even if the white hen flinched and sidled away at the sound of her voice. Fine then, things really were going to be like that for a while. Well, just like all the ones before her... there wasn't much a choice in the matter. Lethalia almost felt guilty for the thought, but it wasn't as if the hen had any hope of getting rehomed. The sooner she learned how to deal with an annoying satyr being around all the time, the better. "Yeah, 's kinda' plain ou' here, innit?" Leth remarked, as if she hadn't even heard the first muffled hiss she was given. Since there weren't any small animals to pursue or other hatchling to harass, Juniper settled on scowling at the noisy woman just like she had been. Hm. She was still talking. Perhaps her blue-eyed scowl wasn't on quite right. Juniper lv|1 ly|1 May|5

"C'mon then, crabby girl," Lethalia baby talked, tugging Juni further down the manicured mansion path. "Won' get t'tha fun stuff ou'here," she explained further, as if it would bring about more cooperation within the hen. Wishful thinking. Dealing with the little savage in the closer quarters provided by indoors didn't sound like the best treat, but the place tended to be pretty clear when there was nothing to do outside. While she didn't understand many of the holidays around here, there weren't any she knew of that would be celebrated with a plain, unnaturally perfectly manicured mansion. Not a single blade of grass leaned over the path, nary a leaf that didn't tuck neatly within it's tightly trimmed hedge. More than the magically obvious decorations, the uncanny straight lines of the concrete path and perfect rows of flowers unsettled her stomach something fierce. May|6

Once in a while, she'd choose to tolerate and listen to the stupid bleating of her prey instincts telling her something was wrong. Normally it was nothing at all, but when it came to the mansion she wasn't going to be taking any chances. It'd been harmless for some time, but she was learning better than to really ever trust it. "Comin' in wit'me, Juniper?" she prompted further as they approached the front door. Considering the henling was leaning sideways against the chain that held her, likely she wasn't thrilled with the idea of going into an enclosed space with this lady. Where was her prettier pink mother at?! Juni squeaked harshly, as if it would summon Ivaylo from the nearby bushes to rid her daughter of this pest. "Sorry, guess we'll have'ta endure together," Lethalia crooned, grinning as Juniper turned on her with a gaping hiss turned into another squeak. "Gettin' little old t'be callin' fo' momma, ain'tcha?" It was probably for the best that the red wasn't available to answer her baby's cries, anyway. Vay liked her owner just fine - enough to still live in the house even after the gained confidence and size that came with dominance - but there wasn't any telling what she'd do if the woman got between hen and hatchling. Better trainers than Lethalia couldn't contend with these beasts' inner workings, and she didn't feel particularly driven to combat them. Especially when it was getting between a mother and her baby; those were the kind instincts one simply didn't mess with. "Ivaylo's not here, y'gotta deal wit' me," Lethalia told her matter of factly, knuckles on her hips as she bend over to look down at the blue eyed beauty. Another hiss. She was unmistakably a product of both parents, and Leth was beginning to have some doubt that it was a good combination. May|8

Ah well. It wouldn't be Lethalia to tell the hen that soon enough Vay would stop answering Juni's 'helpless' squeaks. The blue eyed youngster was pressing her luck with her mother's patience anymore, closer to being kicked out than defended at this point. "Let's try it again, 'n," Leth prompted, waving a bit of jerky in front of the hatchling's nose. At first it was only met with more hissing and false snapping, before she got a whiff that there was more than just human fingers to get. It was able to draw her several steps further, keeping the bait just out of her reach within her caged muzzle. Enough to lead her over the stairs and across the porch without further thought or complaining about it, and Lethalia came to a stop with her hand resting on the door handle. "Hey, g'job Juni!" May|9

Juni had quickly figured out how much jaw movement she had within the cage of the muzzle, ripping the galabex shape from her fingers without a single hesitation as it was poked between the wires. She fell to the ground with her prize, hunching over it so it couldn't be taken away from her. Little monster. Lethalia told her as much, but Juniper didn't seem like she cared about the criticism. "Awh," Lethalia crooned to the wolverine snarling behind the caged muzzle, "'s a hard life, huh baby girl?" She let out a little snort at that, taking in the hen rolling around on the ground with her jerky, growling for all she hated the world in spite of nothing being particularly wrong with it. Ah yes, the Rimefang in her. Maybe he hated her so much it was genetic. At least it was his legacy that she had to deal with this kind of shit now. Juniper lv|2 ly|2 May|10

It would have been nice if the little spined white had inherited more of her mother's social graces, but it wasn't meant to be. Instead she got another baby wolverine. Lethalia would make it work out just like she did everything else, but damn if it wouldn't have been nice to train a normal hen. "C'mon June," Lethalia prompted, opening the door enough to tap the hen's rear end sitting in the way. Juniper hissed, sending flecks of jerky flying, coughing on them in order to continue hissing. A dull metallic thud sounded as she twisted around where she laid, muzzle cage bouncing off of the door she was going to rip of it's hinges. "Nicely done," was all the satyr could manage, waiting for the white hen's head to stop spinning before they made another attempt at that. Yep, this was her life. She chose this for herself. For some reason. Literally went out of the way to make this happen. May|11

At least she didn't have to save a stupid hatchling from choking this day, that was a win. Noted to not bother Juniper while she was eating, until she got more of herself figured out. "Ho'kay, in we go," Lethalia attempted a second time, now that Juni's head stopped bobbing aimlessly. This time the hen dodged out of the opening door's travel path, tucking her studded tail close to keep it safe while growling and grumbling at the thing that'd dared touch her previously. Growling turned into a loud raspy squeak as Lethalia gently ushered her hen into the open doorframe, certain only that the mansion had a floor this time around. It was enough to get Juniper inside first thing, they'd figure out the rest - like whatever the mansion was deciding to put them through this time - once they got there. May|12

Juniper was going to make herself enough of a problem Leth was likely going to be dealing with her the entire time, rather than poking around the mansion too much. More than likely she could manage it, even if Juni wasn't as put off by being in an unfamiliar place as she'd have hoped for. Usually, it was the one thing she could depend on to bring an unruly hatchling in line - the fear of the big outside world. So far Juniper held no such fear of the world; only blind anger. If there were any stamp drakes put on their offspring... this affliction undoubtedly was Rimefang's. Not all of them had to become such miserable curs as their father, but they all damn well tried. High-strung hens were almost becoming normal for Lethalia to deal with; where had she gone wrong? It was almost like she was trying to avoid placid hens or something. May|13

Lethalia followed closely behind Juni, only scarcely catching a glint against a multitude of reflective surfaces before the door swung shut and left them in darkness. Stopping dead, the satyr was certain she'd seen both the faces of crystals as tall as she was in the last shaft of sunlight - and the wavering of water somewhere past them. Juni squeaked as her owner's hoof bumped into her, frozen in place. If there was one thing that could instill fear in the little beast, apparently, it was the dark. She simpered and crowded up against Lethalia's legs; if it was any other pet she'd be down there coddling them. Being this girl, Leth took the blessing for what it was - the hen actually seeking her out! - and didn't bother her, even if she was pretty heavy leaning against her shins. Without seeing the hen in the dark, Leth could've sworn Juni was getting heftier by the hour. May|14

It came as no surprise that Juniper turned out as much of a diurnal creature as her mother; even if her blood ran white-cold she followed the sunlight like the desert-dwelling side. Feeling the side of her backpack, the woman groped for where she knew she'd put that flashlight at some point.. Lethalia hadn't been too worried, but the cavernous empty sound before them was more deeply unsettling than the mansion actually doing something. Distantly water dripped, and even further away the subtle crackling of turbulent waters could be heard if she stilled long enough. Just the knowledge of the void in front of them spurred her digging on with a little more worry. Under a blanket and canteen, a smattering of food and treat containers both of the human and pet kind.. shit. Just as panic blossomed in her chest, the satyr's finger touched the smooth plastic handle she'd been seeking. Juniper lv|3 ly|3 May|15
