Well this was incredibly different. The mammalian had stared at the quest sheet long and hard. So she had to bring a pet who could battle. Sandy was tied up in the tournament, so the mammalian thought that was unfair on her. She had a couple creatures who could battle, so when she went to the kennel she looked around to see who was interested. Eve turned away quickly, she was "too old," and Christina and George felt as though "their fighting days were over." It had been a couple years since either of them had battled, so the mammalian let it be. She tried to convince Sandy to try to convince them, but she simply kept reiterating what they had told her, and that was that. Luckily, Denny was quite spry and willing. She had taken her piece of the ribbon, tying it softly around her wrist. Denny had his on an ankle, and the duo could communicate openly. She had asked kindly if he would assist her in this quest, and surprisingly he was quite eager to help out.
I never had a chance to really get into battling. Shortly after I was old enough and trained enough to battle, they shut down the Sarane tournaments. So I certainly wouldn't mind an opportunity to try to see if I still have it.
Unfortunately, Denny had never had a chance to prove himself as a competitive fighter and gain the confidence to breed. Which the tournaments closing, none of the Sarane would be able to breed anymore. So Amelia held onto the ones she had, and loved them all the same. Denny had matured into a nice looking drake. The stronger horns that showed the trouble his mother had went to in order to take a mate. Had he been a female, he would have had longer wings than most. Giving the females the ability to glide. Had he had offspring, any drakes would have large antlers, and any hens would have large wings giving them the capabilities of flying. They would also be stronger, more capable of battling. However, with everything that had come down the drake never had a chance to take a mate, or battle against other sarane.

Amelia was glad Denny was so on board. This saved her some hassle, and if she couldn't find anybody there was no way she could complete the quest. She was a snow leopard mammalian. She had some abilities that helped her succeed over, say, a human. She was a bit more dexterous than the average mammalian, and she imagined her long feline tail and slim, muscular body aided with that. Somehow she was lucky, not only able to avoid problems but usually never came into them in the first place. Of course, she was crazy. Her brain didn't work properly, so she was not only easily persuaded but she was often on another wavelength. However, with all of this together, Amelia wasn't exactly a great fighter. Denny on the other hand, was built and bred to battle.
So I have no idea what we're getting ourselves into. That's part of the excitement right?
Denny snorted and nudged her playfully. He cared for the mammalian, and even though she had no memory of his training, a lot of work had been put into him. He ate a hearty meal while Amelia got ready and packed the things she needed, and then they were off. She had brought a small bag per her usual. A couple sandwiches, some water, and a few other trinkets she thought could aid them on the way. It didn't take long to get to the tower, but she no had to figure out how to get to the dungeon.

She was kindly escorted in. Denny walked behind her, rather obedient and well behaved. The man who had let her in (the same one who needed her help,) took a one over on Denny. Satisfied that not only was he not going to get killed from an unruly creature, but also that he physically appeared capable of slaying the 'beast,' he gave her directions to the dungeon. They seemed simple enough, but at the same time a bit of a farther walk then she was hoping. She hadn't done any mount training with Denny, so that was mainly out of the question. A lot of stairs mostly, a few turns through hallways and then they would get to where the creature was lurking. She hadn't been given any information on how the creature had gotten here, or how long it had been here. Only that she had to battle until it was defeated and it was able to be removed from the tower. It didn't seem like a lot of work, but she had no idea how powerful the creature would be. Denny wasn't exactly incredibly frightening, but he might be much stronger than whatever was lurking. She didn't think he would have much space to fly around, but who knew maybe he could make it work.
I'm excited. My muscles have ached to battle. This is what I'm born for, things like this. Do you have any idea what it looks like? Any weird things he's seen it do? Like breathe fire?
That was a fair worry, but the mammalian couldn't help but laugh. No, not really anything. But I'm thinking you'll do a really good job.
Denny snorted, and lightly butted the mammalian with his nose. She walked down the stairs in front of him, and he wandered down after her. They found this way he wasn't accidentally hitting her with his tail.

However, when danger came, Amelia would quickly move aside for Denny to take over. But for now, with problems far away, they weren't worried about too much. Denny had his wings tucked against his side so he could fit in the staircase. It was rather wide, but if he stretched out his wings he would be far too large to move. Amelia set the pace, and they found themselves going further and further down. She had no idea how far down this dungeon was. It also made her question more about how the creature got itself into the tower. Maybe somebody had let it in?
I'm sorry you've never been able to battle. According to the journal, I've always wanted you to get into the arena and earn yourself a pretty little hen. It's just too bad that I haven't been able to.
Honestly, I think it would be nice to take a mate. Find myself a pretty hen, impress her. And then we could have lots of babies.
Usually the dominant, confident Sarane take multiple mates. Hens only go into heat three times a year, and its a battle for who can earn breeding rights. Usually between the males. Sometimes the lower females will battle in order to breed to produce worthwhile offspring. Or maybe just for choice of a mate. But usually Sarane take a different mate every season.
The drake exhaled loudly. I think I'd rather have one best friend hen and we could have babies every season. If I was just able to battle so I could prove myself to her...
Amelia rolled her eyes, the drake unable to see. He was different, with how these things worked. Perhaps if he had the choice of multiple mates, he would take more than one.

You know, you were only allowed to breed once a season. Even though drakes are capable, your roll is big in the development of your offspring. So each hen and drake are only allowed to breed once during the mating season. So you would have one hen that was only yours for the few months anyhow.
Of course, some drakes and hens bred and little happened together after. But as a general rule, perhaps to help control their genetics, drakes couldn't breed to multiple hens at a time. Now, with battles not happening, the Sarane didn't have the confidence to take mates. Which was interesting how it affected the hens. With no battles, there was no heightened hormones associated with the victories. So, the hens weren't responding properly. They just weren't going into heat anymore. It was like a farmer without rain, unable to produce crops. The hens weren't reproducing anymore, and nobody had a good idea of their lifespans. Perhaps they could live for years. Having only recently been discovered my the labs in the last 5 years, there was still so much not known about them while in captivity. Wild creatures typically lived shorter than ones in captivity, and she assumed the Sarane would be little different. Denny was a few years old, but still very young and spy. All her Sarane were. Except Roger, she didn't know much about him. She had gotten him as an adult drake, and she had never been able to break him due to his unruly behaviours. Perhaps one day the hen would go back into heat, which might trigger the males to fight regardless of rules.
Finally, they reached the bottom of the stairs. Okay, now I don't think it's much further before we find it. We walk this way, and then take a left, and then our second right and its in there. That's the best they could do I guess, is get it confided to an area.

From deep within the facility; a rumble is heard; it resonates in anything empty (including your chest cavity). It could easily have been mistaken for thunder, but maybe the creature was close? It felt like danger, charged and ready.

The rumble came from deep within the mines. Amelia stopped, freezing in her steps. Denny stopped, bumping into the mammalian in front of him.
Oops. What's that sound? Is that the creature?
Amelia slowly nodded, looking back at the drake. They paused. She exhaled loudly and then began walking forward. The dungeon was damp, and as she took her turns she was afraid. She began to fear what she was going to see, what the creature was going to look like. She paused again and looked at Denny. He was strong, but was he ready?
Are you ready? I don't know what its going to be. You might be outmatched.
Yes. I think I'll be okay. I can feel its presence, we're coming close.
This is the last turn. It should be just right ahead.
Amelia stopped walking and turned to the drake. He understood what was next. The drake pulled in front of the mammalian, brushing her back with his finned tail. He looked at her, then stretched his legs out. The creature could be right around the corner, or maybe it moved. He turned the corner, looking into the darkness. There were a few lanterns, and then nothing. It was pitch black shadows. That was probably where it was.

The path ahead was dark. The rumble, the creature must not be far ahead. Denny stretched his wings out and let out a low growl himself. It had been some time since Denny had even used any of his battle moves. Most of his battles had been with practice dummies. He had not had a lot of experience when it came to digging his claws into flesh. Wrapping his jaws around a limb, using his wings to control the air surrounding them. He could even take to the sky to help avoid a battle. Amelia was fascinated by flying creatures. When such an incredibly strong creature took to the air it just looked like such a powerful battle move. It made her think of WIurns, which were incredibly magnificent to see it battle and in the air. Eve was probably more powerful than Denny, but unfortunately she was unwilling to battle today. So here they were. Denny accompanied the mammalian to the dungeon, and he was going to take out the creature.
There it was. It was different than anything Amelia had ever seen. It was a tank. Muscular and slim, she thought it looked like a custom Tat-lung to her. Large wings, green scales, long talons and sharp teeth. It had a tail covered in spikes and thorns, and it was going to clearly be a challenge to defeat. Amelia wasn't sure what to say, but she knew that she already felt too close to the creature.
Stay there Amelia. You're close enough. You need to be safe, I'll go on alone from here.

The snow leopard froze in her place, leaning against a wall. She sat on a ledge, admiring the intricacies of the walls down here. Yes, the dungeon didn't exactly have a lot of things down here. But there were lanterns and ledges and designs carved into the walls. Staircases everywhere, she was sure that the tower was something in of itself. An incredibly magical building, Amelia wondered if it was similar to the mansion in its dreamlike behaviours. So how had the creature got in here in the first place? It was large, and she wasn't sure if it was exactly able to fit through the door. It didn't look much bigger than Denny, and Amelia was pretty sure it would be an equally yolked battle. Denny crouched down, and began to growl at the large creature in front of him. The forest coloured beast crouched as well, and took a step towards Denny. For a few moments, the two creatures stood in silence. They stared at one another, and the battle began with just their body language. The two were feeling each other out. Were they going to battle? What was the purpose of the other's being? Denny had to defeat this creature, and this creature was in a territory it had claimed as its own. Or maybe, there was a different solution. Neither knew yet, but Denny knew his purpose and he was ready to strike. A few moments later, it happened.

But, the request was to kill the beast. Denny felt a little uneasy about that, as he met the creature. Was it really worth killing? Or had it gotten lost and somehow it ended up in this dungeon? He looked at Amelia, a bit of worry in his eyes. Typically Sarane battled each other, and never to the death. Only to defeat, where they were able to saunter away, still alive. They would fall unconscious at times, or flown away while bleeding to return to its territory to heal. In the battle pit, when I creature went unconscious the battle was over. It was cruel to battle to the death, and Denny wasn't sure if he was able to do that. But perhaps there was able to win the battle and let the monster leave with its life. But, they would have to see.
Denny struck at the green monster first. He had his fangs out and aiming towards the side of its body. It moved quickly out of the way, and Denny's teeth only grazed the side of the monster. He was fast, and Denny was shocking by how the battle was going. The monster moved towards Denny, with its tail out. He swung it towards the drake. He gritted his teeth, narrowing his eyes to prepare to move as fast as he could. He stretched his wings out, pushing himself against the ground to move into the air, away from the monster's tail. It swung by, and Denny barely was able to avoid the spikes from the monster's appendage. He landed on the ground, and took a few steps back to prepare to move again.

Nothing would happen for a few moments, and the green creature turned itself around to go back towards Denny. Denny moved back a few steps, and the green monster snapped towards him. Its jaws wrapped around Denny's back leg, and he crashed into the ground. The drake yelled out angrily, jaws wrapped around his leg. He pulled his front legs into the ground, and pulled himself forward. He flapped his wings, and pushed himself away from the monster. Blood poured out of his leg, and the teeth marks were a now permanent entry into his body. He pulled his other back leg up and struck his back foot towards the monster's face. He dug his sharp claws into the skin of its face, drawing blood from the creature. Its jaw grip released, and Denny was able to fall away from the creature with a loud grunt. He pulled himself up, favouring his back leg. The two indents into his flesh were dripping blood onto the dungeon ground. He growled, and turned his attention back towards the monster.
Amelia pulled back, she held a hand to her mouth to cover her gasp. Now she felt afraid. If the monster took down Denny... then it could come and get her. She could run quickly, but unlikely fast enough to avoid the creature. She pressed herself into the wall. She felt the cool stone against her back. But she couldn't focus on the experience of sitting in the stone, she couldn't move her eyes from the battle happening in front of her.

The creature lets loose a ferocious noise; but something above and overhead was... Skittering, watching, eyes gleaming. It was watching the duel below with an almost intellectual interest in it's all-too-human eyes.

Amelia pressed herself deep into the marble, holding her breath for a moment. Denny's golden eyes fixed with his owner's blue ones. He grinned and turned back towards the beast. He pulled himself away, favouring his back leg still. Blood gushed from the fresh wound, two large holes in his flesh. He winced as he tried to put pressure on it. The green beast stared at the drake, blood dripping from a slice in it's forehead and a slice in its cheek. It growled angrily, showing the daggers that occupied its mouth. There was a moment where both creatures where staring at each other, taking shallow, rapid breaths as they tried to recover from the last small encounter.
The mammalian looked above, and was taken back by the creature on the ceiling. Was this something else they were supposed to deal with? She quickly darted her eyes around the room, looking for any other potential danger. For these few moments, she wasn't watching her drake and the monster. She was occupied with her surroundings, suddenly aware that there was a lot more around her than just the two creatures. But, this was there purpose of being here. They had to defeat this creature somehow, and Amelia knew that she didn't have much hope when it came to battles. She wasn't strong, not like her drake who she had brought. He was the fighter, he was the one who was supposed to defeat this creature.

Denny pulled back and narrowed his eyes, looking at the beast. He would strike first. He struck forward. His wings pressed against his sides, in a small burst of speed the drake went towards the green creature. He opened his jaws once more, and latched his teeth into the side of the creature. He felt his teeth sink into the flesh, blood drawing into his mouth. The drake pulled his front legs up, gripping his claws into the creature's body. It called out loudly in distress, trying to get away from the drake. It whined again once more, digging its own claws into the hard stone floor. It stopped moving for just a moment, just enough for Denny to let his guard down. Once he did, the creature took its chance. It pulled quickly to the side, spinning its body to get out of Denny's grip. It spread its wings, throwing its spiked tail into the drake. Denny let go, falling back into the stone. The creature took this opportunity to move out of the way quickly. It whined, favouring its side. Blood dripped from the fresh wound in its side and smaller marks where Denny had dug his claws in. Denny moved back, favouring his back leg once more as he felt the pain surge through his body. This was not the kind of battle he was anticipating, he wasn't aware that this could be so evenly matched.
