While it was a shame to waste ore on such tiny chips, Fiera was working on a much bigger prize. She found herself digging around a large chunk of ore, trying to carve it out of the wall for later. She was sure it would sell well if she could just wrestle it out without breaking it. She even traded out her pick axe for her chisel and hammer after a while, changing the loud clattering noises to quieter chipping ones. Lunara seemed happier with that as well, peeking out from behind the mine cart and even coming to sit next to Fiera as she worked, gently sniffing at the chips that had landed on the ground. Fiera hardly noticed her pets presence at this point- she had a tendency to get lost in her work once she got started. Lunara hardly seemed to mind though, happy to be just a spectator.

A few more taps later, and the brownish chunk of ore finally collapsed under its own weight, breaking off of the wall and rolling into Fiera's lap. The stone was bare behind it, indicating that Fiera didn't have to worry about being so gentle in the future. She sighed with relief, wiping her brow before turning to Lunara. "About time, eh? I was starting to think that thing would never come out!" She said. The yumenokei flicked her ears with amusement, probably finding Fiera's obsession with rocks to be more than a little amusing. The humanish plucked it off the ground, turning to her mine cart. A few clasps undone later, and she was able to insert it with her other findings so far. The pair of them had only been in the mines for a few minutes now, but had already accomplished so much. It was a good sign, as far as Fiera was concerned.

As she locked it away, Fiera turned back to the gash now present in the wall. The tunnel only got narrower the further down she went, and would likely soon stop altogether. As a result, Fiera decided that she might as well start carving out a new one here. Hopefully, one that she could stand up in. She placed her tools back in their storage area, and got out her pick axe again. Realizing what that meant, Lunara quietly slunk away from her and back behind the mine cart. "Sorry, sweetheart." Fiera said to her pet. "It simply has to be done!" Then she got to work, demolishing what was left of that narrow vein of ore. Soon, the thin line in the wall had been expanded into a narrow gash, with all of the glimmering portions now pebbles on the floor beneath them. Lunara absent mindedly rolled a few of them around with her paw.

It was nice to see Lunara playing- Fiera felt like her pets didn't have nearly enough opportunities to express themselves in the kennels. Sure, their environments were carefully designed to accommodate them, and their standard of care was always very high, but it was something else entirely to let them interact with the real world. Get some fresh air and proper exercise, so to speak. Lunara certainly seemed to be enjoying herself, moving the scraps of rock around and arranging them in esoteric patterns, building something that Fiera could only guess the function of. For all she knew, it was a form of abstract art. That was possible, she felt; Yumenokei always seemed to be on a much different level from everything else, as strange as they were. At least this one in particular felt the urge to stick around. Fiera felt like Lunara chose her as much as the other way around.

As she widened the mined gap, Lunara seemed to get more comfortable, as did Fiera. Though in Fiera's case, it was mostly because she had more room to move around in. The hole in the wall was still pretty shallow- only about six inches deep- but it was wide enough that Fiera was starting to be able to get up to her full height again if she stood. It was starting to create a little 'opened up' area in the tunnel, but if she wanted to actually fit in it, she'd have to keep pressing on and digging deeper. Still, that was all the motivation that Fiera needed. What could she say, she was a creature driven primarily by her desire for comfort and nice things. I mean really, who wasn't? And didn't she DESERVE nice things? Plush furniture, fine clothes, shiny jewelry. Granted, this place was filthy and dirty...

But she'd get there eventually. There was very little that could stop her when she put her mind to something. Besides, this place was the best place to find the shiny jewels to go in the shiny jewelry, even if she didn't know how to personally cut and fit them. That would be something she'd figure out later- or just hire someone else to do. That wasn't necessarily Fiera's style though. She was very much the sort of person who believed that if you wanted something done right, you did it yourself, even if it was as unpleasant and dirty as the mines. Still, putting in the effort had made her pretty darn rich so far- the mines had given her dozens and dozens of gems to sell off, and even one or two of the much coveted magical crystals that everyone was raving about. Say what you want about the place- it was certainly worth coming down to.

She couldn't say whether Lunara agreed with her- the moon rabbit was still entertaining herself, but didn't seem too enthusiastic about the trip. Perhaps it would have been better to take her to the Eccentric's Mansion instead. The yumenokei was still playing with some rock on the ground, having built several trippy patterns out of different shades of stone, arranged into circles and spirals across the floor. Fiera made a mental note to either not back up or do so carefully- she'd hate to destroy her pet's hard work. At least she didn't have to worry about Lunara trying to eat anything. It felt like Fiera was constantly trying to pull something or other out of her pets' mouths down here, whether or not it was something they were supposed to eat (such as her gem wyrm), or just a chew toy gone wrong (such as with her baby sarane).

Taking a break, Fiera decided to finally go and look at what Lunara was doing. Carefully stepping over her little rock art displays, Fiera approached her yumenokei and peered over her shoulder. Suddenly, her fur began to prickle on end, and she felt a peculiar (and yet by this point, familiar) thrumming pulling at her through her body. "Oh." She said breathlessly. "Is that..?" She muttered, and Lunara finally realized she was there, glancing over her own shoulder. The creature politely acquiesed, and retreated to a spot on top of the mine cart, as if just keeping an eye on the artifact she had found for Fiera while the humanish was busy with mining. Fiera herself sunk to her knees, fascinated by the trinket that the yumenokei had somehow found. How had Fiera not noticed it while she was busy digging? Had she truly been that deep in the work trance?

She reached out with a single delicately clawed hand and scooped up the crystal in front of her, handling it gingerly. The thrumming instantly stopped, as if making that physical connection completed some sort of circuit, binding the stone to her. The glow remained however, soft and comforting around the yellow gemstone. It was long and spindly, hard as diamond and yet brittle looking, pulsing with some sort of internal power source. She had found one of these before- an elemental crystal. Apparently they were amazingly magical, and an essential ingredient in the creation of magical nodes. Fiera hadn't made any yet to date, but she had slowly been gathering the different ingredients needed in order to make them- mind crystals, healing berries, and now elemental crystals. She didn't quite have enough of that particular ingredient to make a node, not yet, but this brought her ever closer to her goal.

She had a couple other elemental crystals too- one earth crystal, and a few 'hollow' aligned ones that she had found in The Eccentric's Mansion instead of in the mines. She didn't have enough of any type to make a full node yet, but that wasn't too big a concern for her yet. They were all similar in appearance though- long and skinny with a beautiful glow. And that thrumming, that deep instinctual pulse. That was what alerted her to their presence more than anything else, though she wondered why she didn't pick up on it this time. Had Lunara, with her natural connection to magic and the ether, been blocking it somehow? Or did she... FIND it somehow, linking her own magic to an otherwise ordinary crystal. Fiera had no way of knowing- magic was a topic that was beyond her skill set. She didn't even know it EXISTED until recently.

She turned the crystal over in her hand before looking around, as if someone was going to pop out and steal it from her at any minute. The other nice thing about elemental crystals is that they were one of the most valuable substances in the labs. Even if Fiera wasn't going to personally use one, she was sure she could sell it for a high price. She didn't even need a black market to do so, which was a welcome change from her old line of work. Considering that she already had an air based elemental crystal though, Fiera had the feeling that she should hold on to this one. If she was lucky, she might be able to find another and then she'd REALLY be cooking with petrol. Is that how the phrase went. She chuckled to herself- she honestly couldn't remember. It was one of those that was pretty local to her hometown.

Considering the crystal's value though, she figured it was time to put it away. She didn't want anyone stumbling across this tunnel and claiming that it was theirs- and thus anything that she mined up in here was theirs as well. But if it was already hidden by then... well, what they didn't know wouldn't hurt them. The humanish quickly shooed Lunara away from the mine cart before surreptitiously putting the crystal away in it, glancing over her shoulder at the same time. The whole sequence of actions was far more suspicious looking than it needed to be, but Fiera was a creature of drama after all. Once it was safely secured though, Fiera stood up to brush herself off and give off a 'just standing around, nothing to see here' vibe- and nearly cracked her head on the low cave ceiling. That would show her not to be dramatic in a cave. It wasn't like anyone could see her anyway.
