"There you are! Now, glide!" She said, and waited... only for him to not move. "Oh. Maybe you still don't know that word quite yet. Or maybe you just don't want to. Either way, follow me Misery! Glide!" She reiterated, utilizing a command word that she knew he DID know, and watched as the serpent hesitantly poked his head over the cliff. Then, he pulled out of sight once more and she heard his spindly legs scrabbling against stone before he launched himself off. For the briefest moment, his wings blocked out the weak November sunlight. Sure enough however, he seemed to be holding them out steadier this time, keeping them stiffer and the membranes more full than how tentative his actions were before, pulling them in before he even hit the ground. His descent was still rapid and with little control however, as he sailed through the air toward Fiera.

When he finally came to the ground, Fiera was waiting with another piece of chicken. She ambled over to him and let it hit the ground near his face, where he quickly grabbed it. "Good glide, Misery!" She said cheerfully, waiting for him to finish eating it. He looked a lot more sure of himself that time- hopefully that meant that he was getting the hang of it and was figuring out what Fiera was trying to teach him. There was only one way to find out, however. The humanish began making her way toward the edge of that cliff and looked down. "...Oof." She said as she realized how tall and steep this one was. Maybe it was a little bit too much, but it wasn't like she could go back up at this point. She just had to be careful. Slowly, she scaled the cliff, making sure each hand- and foothold was secure before putting her weight on it.

"Maybe I should have brought some crampons today, eh Misery?" She said with a laugh before looking back up at her salaves. He didn't seem quite as amused, but she wasn't about to give up now. It took her a few more minutes, but Fiera was finally able to reach the ground safely, hopping down the last foot with a quick "Phew!". She hoped that it didn't wig out Misery, but... on the other hand it might make him realized how much more efficient gliding actually was. She looked back up at him. "Okay Misery- glide!" She said. To her delight, Misery actually seemed to understand the command now and leapt with surprisingly little hesitancy, spreading his membranes wide and floating over to her. It was still a little messy- it was clear he hadn't quite figured out how to account for the wind yet, but it was much more controlled than his previous attempts.

"Oh, great glide, Misery!" Fiera said happily, tossing him another piece of chicken. She was sure he nearly had it by this point, and that he just needed to be pushed a little bit more. She looked around. Unfortunately, they were nearly out of slope this time. There was instead a large field ahead of them, and leading down to it was a very long, rocky slope. Certainly not the sheer cliff faces that they had dealt with thus far. And yet, maybe this could be his final test, checking out his control and distance in a glide as opposed to simply conquering his fear of heights. It was as good a plan as any, Fiera figured as she started jogging down the slope. Misery just looked at her with a withering expression as she made her way down, finally ending up in the tall grass of the field. "Okay Misery- glide!" She called back up.

Misery had to have been at least forty feet away by that point, but he clearly still heard her. There was barely any hesitation in his actions at all by now, as he paused only long enough to ready himself for the jump, gauging height, distance, and wind with his keen eyes. A moment later he was airborne, launching off of his rocky vantage point with a powerful stroke of his tail. He splayed his membranes wide, delicate skin connecting them and catching the wind. They were too weak to flap but perfectly shaped to catch the wind as he moved. He slithered through the air as if still on the ground, almost swimming his way toward Fiera. His abilities were more impressive than they both thought however as he managed to sail right over her head and beyond, finally settling into the grass about fifteen feet behind her. The humanish couldn't help but laugh. "Yeah, good glide there!" She called out, as if there were any dissenters around to hear.

Well, it had been some time since Fiera trained a houluh. But she figured if she was going to train up another, now would be a good time to do it. She was between major projects right now, but had plenty of juvenile houluh about that knew absolutely nothing but how to look cute and bark at her. This was cute of course, but not especially helpful. With that in mind, she had dragged Tucker out for a brief training session. She wasn’t sure how much she was going to get done, but something was better than nothing when it came to training. Tucker, or “Slowest of Burns” as his show name would be, was an excellent selection. He had been proving quite rambunctious, almost aggressive toward his peers. His personality matched his fiery colors, that was for sure, so Fiera figured it would be a good idea to tamp down on that now. Fiera 6 Tucker 0.1/2.1 Name 1

First things first however, Fiera felt like she had to teach him his name. It was pretty much the standard starter trick for all of Fiera’s creatures, and tucker would be no exception. Luckily, she had plenty of treats to feed him to earn his loyalty… or a sharp word if that proves to not be enough. Hopefully she wouldn’t have to break that out soon though- teaching a pet their name was usually pretty easy. “Tucker!” She called, trying to get her pet’s attention to start with. He was busy sticking his whole head in a bush of burrs, and Fiera just knew in her heart that she would be picking bits of plant matter out of his pelt for hours after this. He was quite deeply entrenched however, so she had to try again. “Tucker! Over here, buddy!” She called again, trying to catch his eye.

Sure enough, he pulled his head out of the bush… and along with him came a large tree root, caked in dirt. He gnawed on it loudly as he looked at her, tilting his head to one side curiously. “Oh… lovely.” Fiera muttered to herself. She bet herself anything that that dirt would be hard as hell to scrub out later. Still, maybe she could convince him to drop it. After all, houluh normally loved the treats that she used for training. She pulled one out of her pocket and tossed it to him as a reward for performing the trick. She got her hand ready to snatch the root up after he dropped it, but… he didn’t. Instead he leapt forward and grabbed the treat and the root at the same time, mashing it against the root and licking up what remained in a singular mushy, disgusting display.

“…Oh.” Fiera couldn’t help but say, disgusted as Tucker gnawed on the awful mash of food, dirt, and root. He looked at her absent-mindedly, and she decided to just… try and roll with it. When he finally lost focus on her, she decided to try saying his name again. “Tucker! Over here, Tucker!” She said. It took one or two tries but he looked up again, still chewing. It was a lot faster this time though, to Fiera’s pleasant surprise. Perhaps he really was learning this trick, albeit in an… unorthodox fashion. Even though she didn’t want to add to the mess, she still tossed her houluh another treat. “Good job, Tucker!” She said, praying that he wouldn’t do the same thing with this treat. She groaned internally as he did, scooping it up into his already full mouth with his bottom jaw. She sighed, hoping they could finish this sooner rather than later.

When she was PRETTY sure he was done licking what was left of that treat from the root, Fiera gave the trick one last try. “Tucker!” She called, hoping he would react, and to the humanish’s relief, he did. He lifted his head up immediately, the root hanging from one side while he chewed on the end of it. He growled protectively as Fiera came in to pet him, praising him heartily. She backed off at the sound of it, and awkwardly offered him a treat instead. “…Good boy, Tucker!” She said as he “ate” it. Sure enough, it looked like he had learned his first trick, though he had made an absolute mess of it. She was going to take him home now, sincerely hoping he wouldn’t cause any more trouble on the way back. She had quite the bath to give him, that was for sure.

Fiera had taken Sasha out on the town before, but never to the public park. And yet, it didn’t seem all that mew to the fossil. The greenery (what was left of it this time of year) seemed quite similar to what Fiera already had in her gardens, and she was well used to seeing other animals by now. The cheerful little reptile didn’t seem spooked at all then, which was good for Fiera’s purposes. Despite having spent a lot of time with Sasha already, Fiera had to admit that the little creature was as of yet completely untrained. Sasha enjoyed Fiera’s presence, but she couldn’t follow a single command that the humanish could come up with. So her goal today was to rectify that. Nothing fancy, just a few obedience tricks, but hopefully it would be amusing the Sasha and would help her be more controllable in the future. Fiera 1 Sasha 15.1/15.1 Name 1

The first on that list was, first and foremost, teaching Sasha her name. That wasn’t too hard… in theory. Some creatures were easier to train than others, but thankfully Fiera had brought some treats with her to grease the wheels some. Specifically, she had a little box stuffed with chunks of melon, a sweet and appealing treat for a you g creature such as her. They would be idea for encouraging certain behaviors. Knowing that, Fiera led Sasha to a little patch of dried out grass off the beaten trail and sat down. Sasha followed her “herd mate” carefully, not wanting to be left behind. Fiera watched as Sasha snuffled around in the grass for a moment before saying her name. “Sasha!” She said affectionately… only for the little creature to show no response. Instead, she continued to nose through the long grass, looking for anything still green to eat.

Fiera cleared her throat. It looked like she would have to be a little bit LOUDER about this. "Oh, SASHA!" She said, emphasizing the second word especially. That finally got Sasha's attention, if only by spooking her a little bit at the sudden change in tone. She looked over her shoulder at Fiera nervously, only to be met by a chunk of fruit landing at her feet. "Good job, Sasha!" Fiera said affectionately, smiling warmly at her pet. Sasha squeaked happily and leaned down to grab the treat, chewing it up quickly with her bony beak. It was an odd sight considering that most of her pets had lips, but it wasn't upsetting to watch. When Sasha was done eating, she seemed a lot more attentive... but Fiera waited until she lost focus again, wanting to see if she could be pulled out of her daze with just the use of her name.

Sure enough, after not even a minute, Sasha was back nosing around the tufts of grass that surrounded them, looking for any green shoots at the base that had forgotten that it was winter. That was fine by Fiera though, as it meant that she could now try the trick again. "Sasha!" She called happily, only for the stomper to... not respond at all. Fiera's mouth quirked downward, disappointed, until Sasha finally looked up at her. A delayed response? Fiera wasn't sure, but she was going to count it as a win. Maybe she would react a little faster next time. "Good job, Sasha!" She said again, and gave the little creature another piece of melon. She was doing good so far, but Fiera couldn't consider the trick "polished" quite yet. She gave her a pat on the head and once again waited for her to wander off and do her own thing.

Within a few minutes that was exactly the case, and Fiera could barely see Sasha anymore for how much she had wandered off. It was probably best to call her now, to make sure she didn't get too far away. "Sasha! Hey, Sasha!" She said sweetly, and sure enough, a bright blue head popped up from the grass, peering at her curiously. Fiera couldn't help but laugh- at least she had done it right away this time! "Oh, good job." She said through her chuckles, and tossed another piece of melon in front of her. Sasha burst from the grass, honking happily, and ran over to pick it up, juices running down her chin. She had performed perfectly, and Fiera was relieved. It was a great sign for their training session today, and the humanish hoped that the rest of the tricks she had planned went just as smoothly for them.
