With stay finished, Fiera realized that the next (and final, if the sun getting low in the sky was any indicator) trick wouldn't be easier to teach in this splash of trees. With that in mind, she picked up her backpack and the cooler full of Margarite's treats, grabbed the repointe's lead, and made her way out of the forest. It was warmer once they wandered into a nearby field, but that wasn't saying much with how cold it had gotten recently. The grass whispered around Fiera's feet, dessicated from the dry air of winter. Margarite sniffed the air loudly, no doubt checking the breeze with her sensitive nose. Fiera wanted to teach her the opposite of staying in place now- instead, she wanted Margarite to come when she was called. Of course, that meant that Fiera needed to be able to get some distance from her, hence the change in location.

But now she could rest secure in the knowledge that Margarite wasn't going to just run off on her, so Fiera let the lead drop to the ground. Margarite continued to look out into the field around her, sniffing the air. Fiera made sure to go upwind from her, so she could smell her and by extension, anything she was holding. When she was about ten feet away, she popped open her travel cooler and pulled out a chunk of meat. She lifted it up and waved it around in front of her, letting Margarite get a good snoutful of it. "Margarite! Come!" She called, setting up the command word for this trick. At this distance, she knew that her repointe would be able to hear her easily. Sure enough, she saw her look her way and start walking over, enticed by the smell of the treat she was holding up.

"That's it, come here!" Fiera said cheerfully, but internally wishing her repointe would walk just a little bit faster. It was getting kind of late and they didn't exactly have ALL day. Eventually Margarite made her way over though and reached out to take the treat before Fiera could even give her a "good girl". "Well, fine then. Good come, Reets." Fiera said, a bit chagrined as she let the repointe take the treat from her. It was no matter though- it simply gave her enough time to go somewhere else and try again. She moved away again, this time going downwind so her pet wouldn't be able to smell her. When she stopped she got out another piece of meat. "Come here, Margarite!" She called. The repointe looked up, and she could see her head bobbing around as she tried to see if there was another piece of food in her hands.

Fiera could see the cogs turning in her head, but eventually Margarite's confidence in her (or perhaps just her desire for food) won out, and she walked over to Fiera to see if she could get a snack out of it. She was absolutely right of course, and Fiera tossed her the treat for coming over. "Good come, Margarite!" She said, reassuring her pet. The repointe chewed thoughtfully as Fiera scritched behind her ears. She had to guess that Fiera was going to make walking over worth her while there, but ultimately, slowly, she chose to risk it and was rewarded as a result. That was exactly what Fiera wanted, and she was hoping she could keep it up. "Alright- let's try that one last time, eh?" She said, and left Margarite standing where she was to back up one last time. She went even further than before. Her repointe could still see her, but would have no clue about what she was holding.

"Margarite! Come here!" She shouted across the field, and then she waited. Almost immediately though her repointe started up toward her. Not slowly, but not quickly either- a nicely paced trot. "Haha, yes!" Fiera smiled to herself as Margarite approached, getting closer and closer until she was standing at Fiera's feet. She sniffed at the humanish's shirt insistently, looking for the food she was no doubt owed for performing. "Alright, alright! Here, you've earned it." Fiera said with another laugh, tossing her a couple pieces of meat for her trouble. Margarite's ears perked again in that distinctive show of pleasure that Fiera had come to recognize over the course of their training session. It looked like this session had met its goals in more ways than one. Margarite was much more obedient now, but Fiera had gotten to know her spooky looking pet a lot better as well. It had worked out well for both of them.

Fiera had been on an absolute roll with training her pets lately. It wasn't that she had managed to find more time in the day somehow, so much as her pets had recently just proven very conducive to learning. Sasha was an absolute delight to work with, and while Margarite was rather... terrifying, to put it simply, she was an absolute genius of a repointe. As a result, Fiera hadn't spent nearly as long training them as she thought she was going to have to, and found herself with quite a bit of free time today. So with that in mind, she decided to take out another one of her pets, an odd looking worginu that she had dubbed Sebros. He was definitely a head turner, if the other people in the park were to be trusted, but she hardly noticed their attentions as she led him off the beaten path and into a nearby field. Sebros had proven friendly so far, but very... independent as well. Not necessarily loyal, but amused by Fiera's antics enough to stick around. Well, hopefully she'd continue to prove entertaining to this creature as she attempted to teach him his name. She had something that she figured would sweeten the pot, however- a cooler full of juicy hunks of meat, perfect for a growing worginu. And despite his massive size, he WAS still growing, somehow. He'd probably appreciate the food, to say the least. With that in mind though, she figured it was a good time to get started, while he was sniffing around and investigating the area. "Sebros!" She called, waiting to see if he would respond. "Sebros, over here!" She tried again, but ultimately he wasn't too interested in what she had to say. She'd have to get a little bit harsher if she was going to catch his attention.

"Sebros! Pay attention!" She said once more, a little sharper this time. The change in her tone of voice was enough to get him to look up, albeit out of curiosity instead of recognition. Fiera rewarded him for it all the same, however. "Good job, Sebros! You're such a good boy!" She said, using his name in reference to him as much as possible. She also tossed him a chunk of meat- no doubt the first treat of many. His ears perked up a tad at the sight of it and he sniffed at it carefully before snapping it up. He chewed on it and wagged his long, heavy tail as well as he could. Perfect. Fiera waited until he was done eating and was paying attention to something else- namely, sniffing at the ground to try and find more meat juice to lick up- before she tried the trick again.

"Sebros! Look at me!" She said again, trying to see if he'd react this time. Instead... he just kept sniffing around. Her lips quirked down. She really hoped she wouldn't have to shout at him this time. Still, she tried it again in a normal tone of voice, just one more time. "Sebros! Hey!" She said. There was a tense moment, but finally her worginu looked up at her again, as if irritated to keep being pulled away from his search for food. She let go of the breath she was holding and tossed him another treat. "That's it, Sebros. You're getting it!" She said, trying to stay cheery. She still had to call him multiple times, but he did far better than last time. Hopefully he would keep up the improvement and they could finish this trick sooner rather than later. First though, she waited for him to finish eating.

Finally he swallowed, and looked off to the side. The perfect opportunity for Fiera to swoop in and try and talk to him again. "Sebros!" She said, and watching him hopefully for a response. She practically beamed as he looked up at her again, confused as to why she kept calling him... but understanding that she was calling him nonetheless. "Oh, good job Sebros!" She said, skipping the treat this time in lieu of getting down on one knee and petting him. He chuffed happily and leaned into the touch, letting her sink her fingers into his silky fur. It was the first trick of many, but it was a fantastically good start, considering the speed at which he had learned it. If he kept this up, he would prove to be one of her most easily trained pets. Still, it was just one stepping stone on a long, long pathway...

The sun was bright and shining in the sky, but apparently it wasn’t working very hard despite appearances. It was downright freezing outside, and Fiera had managed to luckily find one of the few heated pagodas in the whole public park. She shot death glares at everyone who tried approaching it as she stripped off her gloves, her gaze scaring them into walking away again. She needed her harachiu to have perfect focus right now, after all. Well… a harachiu and a dryad. Langley was her brownie harachiu, all dressed up in a thick parka and boots, practically waddling along the wooden floors. Aspen on the other hand was in nothing but a white cotton shift, apparently as immune to the cold as the trees were. She definitely wanted to focus on training Aspen today, but Langley was there for moral support…and perhaps helping the crossbreed out. Langley had a rather philosophical and artistic view of the world after all- maybe it could help Aspen open up a bit. First on the list was teaching Aspen their name- it wouldn’t do for them to not even know who they were in this world after all. “Right! Let’s get started then!” Fiera said, clapping her hands and rubbing them together. Fiera 1 Aspen 4.1/4.1 Name 1 Langley 7.1/7.1

It didn’t make them that much warmer, but it was the thought that counted in her opinion. “Oh… get started on what?” Langley said quietly, but Fiera put a finger up. “No no, not you. This is all about Aspen today, remember? You’ll come in later.” She said. “Oh… alright.” Langley said quietly, glancing up at the dryad. Fiera would have normally wanted to train her pets indoors this time of year, but Aspen always seemed most comfortable when surrounded by nature. The pagoda jutted out into a pond, but surrounding it was still, hibernating life in the form of hundreds of plants. Needless to say, they seemed pretty comfy with it all. If Fiera was lucky, that would mean they were more conducive to learning their name. She started slow, just trying to get Aspen’s attention. “Aspen!” She called sweetly, waiting for the dryad’s response. There was nothing. Instead they continued staring out over the pond, their white dress gently fluttering in the breeze. It looked like Fiera would need to try a little harder than that. She hadn’t found anything that counted as a treat yet, but she DID have something- specifically, a bouquet of roses she had bought.

They weren’t the best, but Fiera knew that Aspen loved plants, especially flowers, and would be more than happy to have some… if the humanish could get them to pay attention. “Aspen!” She said again, a little harsher this time. Langley raised an eyebrow, but it did work- Aspen turned to Fiera, eyebrows raised. “Hey, there you are! Here, do you want one of these?” She said, pulling the flower out of her bag. She offered it to the dryad, and their eyes lit up. Yes, this was most definitely something they wanted. Fiera handed it over and Aspen immediately raised the rose to their head, weaving it into their hair until it poked out around their temple. A small smile crept across the face as they stroked the petals gently in one hand, admiring the texture. Langley looked intrigued. “Hey Fiera?” He said, gently patting her on the leg. The humanish looked down at him. “Can I have one? I want to try.” They said, apparently getting the idea of it. Fiera raised an eyebrow, but obliged. After all, the point of this was to get Aspen to react to their name in any situation, not just with her.

Fiera handed over a rose while Aspen was distracted, and Langley hid it behind their back, the cut down stalk of it even then just barely disguising it behind their figure. They walked over toward the dryad in a way that Fiera was pretty sure was trying to be “casual” but instead just came off as injured. Or maybe drunk. Aspen didn’t seem to be paying too close attention however, and they were able to get quite close. “Uh, hey there. Aspen?” Langley tried. Aspen didn’t respond, and Langley looked over at Fiera while doing a fantastic “kicked puppy” expression. Fiera rotated her hand in a claw motion- “turn up the volume”. The harachiu cleared their throat and tried again. “Aspen?” They said. To Fiera’s delight, Aspen responded a lot more quickly that time- perhaps they were picking up on it! A grin cracked across the dryad’s face as Langley held up the rose for them, holding it shyly. “This is for you! I saw Fiera do it and, uh, wanted… to… give it a try.” Fiera smirked as Aspen leaned over to take it, a blush creeping across Langley’s face. Man, they weren’t subtle at ALL, but if it worked it worked.

Still, she would have to try a few more scenarios to make sure Aspen was responding to their name and not just the sound of Fiera and Langleys’ voices. She struck up a conversation with Langley, talking about nothing in particular, but every so often they’d try to slip in Aspen’s name. Slowly but surely, Aspen would turn to look at them when they mentioned it, and in return they would excitedly try to include them… even if Aspen didn’t understand what they were saying quite yet. It seemed to work though, and soon Aspen was perking up every time they were mentioned, whether they were trying to get their attention or not. Fiera let it go on like that for half an hour, but once it was clear that Aspen had gotten the hang of things, she calmed down a bit. Instead of frantically carrying on a conversation to test them, Fiera relaxed and let Langley set the pace. Meanwhile, Aspen sat at one of the picnic tables in the pagoda, smiling lazily at the sound of their voices. While they didn’t know what Fiera and Langley were saying yet, the humanish assumed it must still sound pleasant- like the twittering of birds. A veritable treat for the ears, though at least one sound in it meant something now.
