After Mango's first training session, Fiera felt a lot better about training him for the upcoming tournament. His confidence seemed to grow once he had a definite goal to work towards, so he took to training and direction very well. She was sure that would serve him even better on the arena floor, and looked forward to nurturing him into something that could actually hit something. For now though he was just a baby, and she had to stick to teaching him very simple things if she wanted him to be able to move on to something more advanced later. So she was going to teach him something else that would help in getting him to follow her around to various locations, but would also keep him moving in more stressful situations. She was going to teach Mango to 'follow'. It was a simple enough trick, she had taught it a million times by now. Mango 6.1/8.1 Follow 1

She reached in her pocket and into a baggie of chewy, meat-flavored treats before pulling one out and holding it in front of her. "Follow me, Mango." She said gently, setting up the word that he would come to recognize as the command. The pair were standing in a large grassy field in the public park, with plenty of room to roam. It was cold, but thankfully the wind wasn't too strong today, so they had plenty of time before it got too chilly and they had to come in. What little breeze there was however was blowing the scent of the treat towards Mango's nose, leading the baby repointe to take a few more tottering steps forwards, sniffing in its general direction. "That's it Mango, follow me!" Fiera said, and slowly began backing away from her pet, with the treat still in hand, her footsteps crunching through the dry grass.

He took a few tottering steps after her, not wanting to let the treat go that easily. When it became clear he wasn't getting any closer to it however, he finally stopped, tilting his head at her with confusion. That was when she finally let him have it. "Good boy, Mango! Good follow!" She said, tossing him the treat. It took him a few moments to find it in the grass, but soon she heard the tell-tale smacking noises of him eating it (albeit with terrible table manners). When he was finished, she got out a second one and moved it in front of her to try again. "Mango, follow me!" She said, and this time he perked up a lot more quickly and trotted after her a bit faster now that he had a slight idea of what was supposed to be happening. He followed her a lot farther too.

Fiera tossed the treat to him before he could get bored this time though, wanting to reward to him for performing the behavior, not for giving up on it. He happily ate the treat and soon she was reloaded with a third. She chose not to back away from him this time, and instead gave the command before turning and walking away. She went at a slow pace to be sure he could keep up, but she wanting him to follow close behind her instead of her having to encourage him along the whole time. She heard a few hesitant footsteps, but they quickly picked up the pace once he realized that she wasn't turning around again. She kept that up for a couple dozen feet before stopping again, turning around to face her pet. Sure enough he had kept up, and was now looking up at her expectantly. "Alright, good follow, Mango." She said with a smirk.

She tossed him the treat and waited until he was done eating, but didn't get out another one- she had the feeling he got the picture by now. "Ready, Mango?" She said, peering down at his wide eyes. "Follow me!" She said, and turned around to walk through the grass again. At first she didn't hear anything, but after a moment's hesitation it began rustling as he pranced along after her. After all, even if she wasn't offering him a treat, he'd much prefer to stay by her side than be left alone. She walked him in a big loop around the field, and when they came to the end of it she finally turned around again. This time, she crouched, rubbing Mango all over his head while telling him how good at following he was. And it was true- it might have been a simple trick, but it was one he could perform well. She was sure it would come in handy in the future.

The second trick she wanted to teach then, was one that didn't require as much moving around but was definitely just as necessary. Mango was small now, but he wouldn't stay that way- she knew full well that repointe got big enough to ride on, and once his sharp horns started growing in he'd probably grow an attitude to match them. So she needed to teach him the meaning of the word "no", and she needed to teach it sooner rather than later. After all, it would be much more difficult to discipline a creature that weighed three times as much as her. For now, he was cute and easily wrestleable. With that in mind she sat down and got out the baggie of meaty treats. He was quite used to these by now, and loved eating them- hopefully enough to try and disobey her desires to get at them.

She set one down on the ground in front of her, with no command given so far. Mango looked at her warily for a moment, as if waiting for her to say something, but when no orders came he slowly crept forwards, sniffing at it with his wet little nose. That was when Fiera struck. "Mango, no." She said firmly, and placed her hand down over the treat. He skittered away for a moment, spooked by any movement Fiera made, but soon came back with a renewed confidence. He sniffed at her hand again and nudged at it with his snout, trying to lift her hand off so he could get at the treat. "Mango, no!" She repeated, a little more sharply this time, trying to get him to get the point that he wasn't allowed to have it. Or at least, he wouldn't get the treat if he kept pushing so hard for it.

She waited and waited, and withstood Mango's (honestly, pathetic) attempts to get at the treat while repeating "No" every time he tried. Finally, he seemed to give up. He stood up with a huff and wandered off, sniffing the grass instead. "Good job, Mango!" She said, and finally lifted her hand up, revealing the treat underneath. He looked at her for a moment, wary, but she even tossed it to him. At that point he happily snapped it up, swallowing it quickly as she retrieved another one from the bag. "Ready for another try, Mango?" She said, grabbing his attention. She set that one on the ground as well, waiting for him to notice it. It didn't take long- he soon crept up on it like before, almost stalking the treat. It was as if he thought if he moved quietly enough, she wouldn't notice and he could eat it without getting scolded.

Needless to say, that didn't work. "Mango, no." She said, and he jerked away from it as if she had bopped his snout. She hadn't of course, but it was nice to see her words having an effect on him. Especially considering that she hadn't placed her hand over the treat this time, so there was technically nothing BUT her words stopping him. He kept trying though, sneaking in to try and grab it, and Fiera would parry him with another repeat of the word "no". It was exhausting for both of them, but apparently effective as he eventually seemed to give up, circling around a few times before laying down in the grass. Just like before, Fiera praised him for his good behavior and tossed him the treat freely, letting him have it as a reward for good behavior. Then, she reached down and pulled out yet another one from the bag.

Just like before, Fiera set it down in front of her. Just like before, Mango immediately took notice. It took him a while to make a move towards it this time- he had learned by now that grabbing food without permission was a no-no. But he was still a baby, and eventually curiosity got the best of him, leading him to creeping towards it with his twitching nose. "Mango, no." Fiera said, and to her delight, he immediately backed off. Apparently he had realized that trying just wasn't worth the trouble anymore, and he'd likely get something good if he just held off. Well, he was correct. As soon as he sat down and pointedly avoided looking in the treat's direction, Fiera tossed it to him. "Good job, Mango! Good no!" She said as he munched on it. What a relief to have a pet with good manners- they would serve him well in the future.
