Fiera stared up and up at the mansion. There was a slight breeze today and it creaked gently in the wind. She had heard about it through the grapevine, that there was a building that changed from month to month, depending on what the holiday season was. Fiera thought that was absurd, but looking at it now... she could sort of see it. The iron gate in front had a written warning about 'temporal displacement' and 'reality distortions', written with a sense of dead serious finality. Beyond the gate was a slumping, rickety mansion (that she could not believe hadn't been condemned yet, just as she couldn't believe she was actually going to go in there) that LOOKED normal enough. But every time she blinked, something seemed to...not quite change? She kept getting the impression that something was just barely flickering past her peripheral vision, like it looked different when her eyes were closed and quickly rearranged itself when she opened them again.

She stood there a moment, just trying to parse the building when Fern whined next to her. Oh right, she brought her rakai with her too. She had been training so hard with Fern lately that she figured the two of them needed a fun break to just relax for a bit. Looking at this place now though, Fiera was getting a bad vibe and rethinking how 'fun' this would be. It would appear that Fern was picking up on that, shuffling nervously. The rakai was likely wondering why they were even here...and why Fiera was staring for so long. Fiera shook her head, clearing her thoughts. "Sorry about that!" She said brightly, before ruffling Fern's cheeks. "Everything's just going to be just fine! I even brought some fish for you to munch on later! We're going to have fun, ok?" She cooed. Fern's tail picked up the pace, wagging wildly.

Fiera was going to check her bag after she got in, originally...but now she felt it would probably be better to make sure she had everything BEFORE she went into the ever shifting, temporally displaced mansion. It just, you know, MIGHT be a good idea. She slipped her duffel bag off her shoulder, going through the pockets and checking its contents. There were two soft, insulated lunch boxes- one with Fiera's lunch, and one stuffed with ice and fish for Fern. They wouldn't go hungry, at least. A length of rope. Some bandages. Water bottles. Hairclips and makeup. A spare pair of pants. Her keys. Her phone. And of course, a ball to throw for Fern. You know, all important stuff. Satisfied, she zipped up the bag again, especially before Fern could sniff out the fish. With that, she lifted her hand and placed it upon the gate, and got ready to push.

Fiera hesitated for a moment, trying to remember if she had heard if anyone died here before. ...They hadn't, right? No. Besides, she had been through rougher. Tossed around in riots and came back out the other side just fine. Screw it, she'd be fine, she thought as she opened the opened the gate and stepped in onto sand. Wait, sand? She looked down as Fern trotted in afterward, and the gate screeched shut again. She could have sworn that it was a regular, if overgrown lawn from outside. Was the magic of this place really that strong? She looked up and around. Sure enough, the lawn was replaced by sandy dunes, covered in tufts of beach grass instead of clipped lawn grass. Instead of a dirt path, sand shifted under her feet. She could swear she saw fragments of seashells in there, and the air brought the smell of salt on a crisp breeze.

She continued to walk toward the house hesitantly. Before it appeared to be well...a regular mansion, but now it was a precarious structure. Its materials resembled old, graying driftwood, with patches of ancient flaking paint clinging for its life to the boards. While before it just seemed big, now the eccentric's mansion was a pendulous, towering structure. It creaked like an old sailing ship as the breeze whistled around its spires. They were distant, but Fiera could have sworn they looked like crows nests. The windows were thick and yellowed, with soft orange light peering out through some of them. The presence of the light normally would have disturbed Fiera, but thankfully she knew she wasn't alone in here. The mansion was apparently just as popular as the mines, with likely over a dozen people already in there as she approached. Either that or it was haunted, but Fiera tried not to think about that.

Somewhere in that building, one could barely make out a flickering candlelight on what was probably either a desk or the windowsill. The flickering, however, was characteristic.

Fiera stopped outside the front door, casting one last look at the place around her. The dunes were widespread and the scent of brine on the air meant that there had to be water somewhere... but she could come back to that. She caught a glimpse of candle light through a nearby window, nearly opaque with age and grime. It didn't disturb her too much- it seemed characteristic for this place. She gave Fern a pat on the head. "Ready?" She said- more to herself than the rakai. She turned the doorknob and pushed gently, not needing to knock. She expected it to sweep open dramatically, revealing a wonderland of...nautical themed ruin, apparently. But instead it would appear that the door was stuck from a warped frame, and she spent a good ten seconds trying to shove it open instead. How graceful. Eventually she managed to force it open, and spilled into the main foyer.

Fern trotted in after her calmly, and sniffed the humanish where she was sprawled out on the floor. "...I'm ok, Fern." She muttered, waving her arm in a vague patting motion in the general direction of Fern's head. She lifted her head from the floor, hair thoroughly mussed up. "I only bruised my dignity, that's all." She glanced around- at least no one was there to watch her wipe out. Fern wandered around the room as she stood up, brushing herself off. Ugh. At least that clown show didn't ruin her clothes. She'd be furious if they got messed up THIS early. Then, remembering something, she spun around- only to find that the door was still open. Oh. She was expecting it to slam shut dramatically, trapping her in the mysterious mansion. It looked like the eccentric's mansion just wasn't having the whole "dramatic entrance" thing, much to Fiera's displeasure.

Her entrance thoroughly ruined, Fiera looked around at the contents of the foyer she had landed in. She floors and walls were made of warped, water damaged wood. The air smelt of tar and a thick, cloying scent- probably from old styled lanterns or candles with burning oil. The lead-lined, thick windows she saw from outside were slung around the walls haphazardly, regardless of whether or not they actually faced the outdoors. Through some of them she could see other rooms, with other faint lights. "What a dump..." She mused to herself as she examined the furniture. There were about five coat racks nears the front door, as if the duplication errors that created the unecessary windows had spread to the accessories of the room as well. Only one of them had anything resembling a "coat" on it, when it was really just a clump of ragged, mildewed fabric, with a single button hanging off of it.

The other furniture was just as bad- there was a couple of chairs in the corner, arranged in a loose circle with a table in the middle in an approximation of a "dining room". The chairs, however, were all mismatched with varying levels of water damage, and the table itself was missing two legs, slumped over in a pile. There was something... that MIGHT have been a carpet once on the floor, but it was so badly stained, with so many holes it, that it might have also been a large patch of mold. Overall, Fiera wasn't impressed. This place felt less like a magical castle full of magic and mysteries and more like a health code violation that took a year off her life for every minute she spent in it. Still, her sense of stubbornness urged her to press on- her mother didn't raise a quitter, after all.

She forged forward, over the sodden carpet- OH that was a gross feeling. If she hadn't been wearing shoes, the sensation would have been enough to make her turn around and leave. Instead, she walked across the dry patches instead, leaving sloppy footprints behind her. Disgusting. She supposed she was here to scavenge for interesting things though, and she found herself investigating the room, no matter how empty it appeared. Nothing under the table, or what was left of it, nor any of the chairs. A little cabinet in the corner held nothing of interest, though one of its doors was stuck impossibly fast. Finally, she investigated what was left in the coat on one of the many coatracks. She peeked into a pocket, only to see the floor below. Hmm. Well that was a little disappointing. Still, it was only the first room. There was an entire mansion to explore!

She was about to crack a door to move on, hand on the doorknob, when she heard something. A... slapping noise? She turned around. Where could that be coming from? She looked at the carpet. Oh no. Please no. She groaned, and went to touch it. God, she couldn't do it. It was just too gross. She forced her hand down with her other one, bringing herself to touch the moldering rug. So gross. She ripped it up off the ground in one clean movement, flinging the scrap onto the table in the corner. There was a hole in the floorboards there, where they collapsed downward beneath the carpet. And in it was... a fish! Huh. It was just small enough to fit in a water jug she brought with her, thankfully. It took some fighting (the little jerk had very sharp teeth), but she managed to get it in there.

She peered back into the hole. Looks like she had jumped the shark on this room- there were interesting things to be found here after all! She stuck her hand into the hole, half expecting another fish to try and bite her. Instead, she found that the water was ice cold- the work of a strange chunk she found in the corner of the hole. It was bright blue, and roughly shaped. It felt like an ice cube, but it didn't seem to be actually melting. Holding it and rubbing it on her skin didn't actually leave any water behind. She held it up to the light, and it was perfectly transparent, with a tinge of blue. It wasn't 'dry ice' either, as no steam came off of it. She put the bizarre item in her back as well, in Fern's sack of fish. With any luck, it would keep her lunch warm.
