Fiera kept trying that for a while, loading the slingshot as quickly as possible and firing off a stony shot at Isle. Isle would dodge before the rock came anywhere near it, diving slightly in the water (without immersing their trees of course), turning, or rolling to the side. Then Fiera would take that time spent dodging to run around to another side of the crater and try again. With each attempt Isle’s reaction time got better and their movements more nimble (though they weren’t exactly “elegant” by any means). Still, it was a massive success as far as Fiera was concerned. Before Isle would just have to sit there and take it in a fight and accept whatever moves the opponent threw at them. Like this though, Isle could easily dip and dodge at least one of the opponent’s attacks. With that in mind, they were one step closer to being ready for battle.

Well. Danger sense had proven a little exhausting as it involved Fiera running around an entire lake for half an hour, but at least Fiera only had one last trick to teach. With danger sense, Isle was able to avoid attacks. With spore, the halfbreed was able to stop opponents attacking. But Isle still needed a way to deal damage itself. With that in mind, Fiera knew she needed to teach them a quick damaging move to round out the set before handing them back over to their owner, Ridelys. Isle had a lot of options for this of course- they were absolutely massive, so the sky was the limit in terms of physical moves. Still, there was an old faithful that Fiera knew worked for most pets, so she’d probably go with that for this last part of the training session. She slid down the slope back to the lake shore.

Once she was back on the shore, Isle drifted back over to her slowly as she got set up. First was the cooler of fish she had for treats- that was a given. And then, Fiera rolled over a couple of logs. It looked like some people who had come here before had cut them down to use as seats, but had long since been abandoned. Still, they were sturdy enough to teach Isle ‘crunch’. With the help of the treats, Fiera was sure that she could convince Isle to bite down on one of them. Ready to get started, Fiera rolled one of the logs right down next to the water. Then, she ran over to the cooler and grabbed a half-frozen fish, running it back to the lake shore. “Hey Isle, look what I have!” she said, waving it in the halfbreed’s direction, trying to get their attention.

Fiera heard a loud huffing from Isle and knew that they smelt the fish. They opened their jaws, ready to chow down. Instead of throwing in a tasty fish though, she threw one of the logs in. “Isle, crunch!” She said cheerily, waiting to see what the halfbreed’s reaction would be. Isle hissed slightly as they tried to dislodge the log from their mouth, shaking their head from side to side. “Come on, crunch!” Fiera said as it became increasingly clear that Isle wasn’t able to get it out. Once it was clear they had no other options, Isle bit down. “That’s it, crunch!” Fiera said, and watched carefully as the log slowly splintered and crumpled. After nearly a minute, the log finally exploded, flinging shards of wood into the air around them. Fiera hissed quietly and shielded her face, but thankfully none of them hit her.

When Fiera was sure that Isle was done, Fiera tossed the fish to them. It landed in the crossbreed’s still partially open jaws, and they immediately began working on it. “Good job, Isle!” Fiera praised. “Good crunch!” She cooed happily, rubbing their jaw affectionately. Then she rushed back over to the cooler and pulled out another fish. “You want it?” She said enticingly, and the mangrove rested its chin on the shore and grunted. Fiera walked over to another log and shoved it toward Isle. “Then crunch! Go on!” She said. Slowly but surely, Isle put the log in its mouth. “That’s it! Crunch!” Fiera said, excited. To her relief, they were getting the hang of this quick! In just a few moments, the log was in as many pieces as the last one- and she hadn’t had to trick Isle into grabbing it this time! She praised the halfbreed and threw them the fish, excited.

Once Isle was done with that fish, Fiera rolled another log toward them. “Isle, crunch!” She called, and the mangrove crossbreed barely even hesitated anymore. It was an effortless action for them, nonchalant. Lean forward. Grab long. Pick up. Explode. Fiera was amazed less with the complete destruction of the log, and more with the complete lack of effort it took to do so. This really was a perfect move for Isle. Still, once it was done, Fiera praised them and tossed them a fish. They tried again a few times, but it was clear that Isle understood the command by now. Fiera was proud of them- they were well and truly prepared for the tournament by now. Now all she had to do was get the crossbreed back to their owner, and then… well, then Fiera could relax. She couldn’t say this wasn’t a productive day but man, was she tired.

A new day, a new... fish. Well, sort of a fish. Fiera owned quite a few tat-lung by now, but she had never gotten to see the apparently draconic form they grew into. All of hers were far too young for that so far. In fact, they all resembled regular carp, which made it a bit difficult to transport them places. Still, she had gotten Tenmei to the docks just fine, and now had the young tat-lung swimming around in a netted off area next to the dock. She also had plenty of treats in the form of... ugh... crushed up bugs. She had used them to help train one of her other tat-lung, Banzai, and it had worked quite well, but she still found it highly unpleasant to drop the little pellets of crushed insect into the water. Now that she was here though, she might as well start training her pet.

She shook the can of treats slightly to get the young fish's attention, leading Tenmei to swim up to her on the dock. "Hi, Tenmei!" Fiera said sweetly, and the tat-lung looked up at her from the water and blinked. She was paying attention, so as far as Fiera was concerned, that meant she got a treat. "Good job, Tenmei! Good girl!" Fiera said, and opened the can of treats. She rolled one of the pellets into her hand, working hard to not think about its texture, and tossed it into the water. There was a brief splash, and the treat was gone, devoured by the young tat-lung. She circled around a few times, clearly excited, before slowly to a stop, interested in some corner of the net. That was a good thing, as far as Fiera was concerned- it gave her the ability to get her attention once more.

Fiera whistled loudly and immediately saw a splash as the tat-lung turned to find the source of the noise. "Tenmei! Over here, sweetheart!" Fiera said, waving to get her attention even more. The tat-lung swam over hesitantly, and Fiera rewarded her with another treat pellet. Yes, that's what she would call them now- treat pellets, not bug bites. Tenmei certainly seemed to enjoy them, at the very least. Now though, Fiera could afford to give her a bit of a test, to see if she was really paying attention to her name. She began talking idly, just letting Tenmei take in her voice. She wanted to see if Tenmei would expect a treat for everything she said, or if she would just expect a reward for acting interested in everything she said. She discussed the latest news, the weather, the gossip she had heard from the little old ladies down the street.

To her disappointment though, Tenmei seemed equally eager for every word that tumbled from her lips, not just her name. Fiera was internally disappointed, but she kept talking. Slowly but surely, Tenmei lost interested. At first her fins started flaring more chaotically, and soon she began drifting around the netted area again, her youthful attention span reaching its end. That was good. She didn't want her tat-lung to ignore EVERYTHING she said of course, but it would do her no good if Tenmei regarded her name the exact same as every other word. She continued to babble for a bit and let Tenmei swim around near the surface some more, but suddenly cut it off by saying Tenmei's name sharply. To her delight, the tat-lung reacted quickly. She jumped out of the water in shock for a moment before zipping over to Fiera, as if saying "Woops! I'm here! I'm paying attention now!"

Fiera tossed her another treat for that, and then went back to just talking normally. Tenmei's attention dropped off rather sharply, to Fiera's approval. Every so often the humanish would toss Tenmei's name in just to be sure, and the tat-lung would poke her little head up just to check in. Fiera even stopped throwing her treats, knowing that she'd have to learn to react to her name without them eventually, and even then Tenmei would still react to Fiera when she said her name. Fiera smiled, happy that the tat-lung had learned her first trick. She hadn't gotten to know the creature very well yet, but this was an excellent first step. Tenmei was admittedly still a mystery to her (as tat-lungs were to her in general), but Fiera had the feeling she'd get an idea of who she was very soon. At the very least, at least she knew her name.

Now that Tenmei knew her name, Fiera could try some other tricks for a change. She’d probably just do the basics today, to make sure her tat-lung knew simple obedience before they headed home. At least she had proven to be a fast learner so far, though Fiera was kind of expecting that. Despite their bizarre appearances and fishlike larval forms, tat-lung were apparently sapient creatures. As a result, Fiera was less training an animal and more educating a child, no matter how bizarre looking that child was. She certainly had that youthful energy that kids had, that was for sure. As she watched, the tat-lung was swimming laps around the netted area as quickly as possible, breaching above the water a couple times before diving back down and going the other way. It really was just like a little kid playing a game they made up on the spot.

Fiera decided that she might as well make good use of the tat-lung's exuberance and energy. She had a couple tricks left for today, and one of them involved moving around. Based on Tenmei's behavior, 'come' was definitely the next trick to teach. That was just fine by her though. Fiera had plenty of treats left and probably had enough energy to teach it. There was plenty of room to move around as well. Tenmei was currently in a little netted off section of the docks. Three sides of the area had docks for Fiera to walk around, while the fourth side had a net that could be raised or lowered to let boats or pets enter the 'parking spot'. Needless to say, Fiera had a lot of room to move around out here. With that in mind, she picked up the treats again, stood up, and dusted herself off, ready to begin.

She opened up the can of treats again and rolled one into her hands where Tenmei couldn't see it. Then she leaned down to the water's edge and held out the treat. "Tenmei, come here!" She said calmly while gently splashing the surface of the water to get her attention. Tenmei's eyes widened as she saw the treat, knowing by now how nice and tasty they were. She almost immediately zipped over to Fiera before sucking the treat off of her hand with her toothless mouth. Fiera took her hand away as the tat-lung swam off again, and was quietly grateful that she hadn't grown teeth yet. Still, that didn't stop her from giving the tat-lung praise. "Good job, Tenmei!" She said, absentmindedly rubbing her fingers. "Good come!" She said sweetly, and stood up. That was a good first try, but she definitely wanted to keep up the good work.

Fiera circled around to the other side of the dock, trying to get on her tat-lung's far side. She squatted down next to the dock again, and tried to see if she would obey without the treat to lure her over this time. "Tenmei, come!" She said while making a beckoning gesture. The tat-lung swam around in circles for a moment as if confused, before moving toward Fiera hesitantly... but decided against it and swam away again. Fiera sighed. So close, yet so far. It looked like she'd have to use another treat to get the idea across, at least one more time. She got out another treat, holding it at the surface of the water again. "Tenmei, come!" She called again. The words had barely left her mouth before the tat-lung came swimming right over again, grabbing the treat. It was clear she was getting the idea of 'come', steadily.
