"Do you smell that?" Ashe asked Inyala, trying to follow the smell. He probably looked silly, leaning around with his head tilted up and his nose in the air as he tried to locate the source of this smell. He wasn't having much luck, his nose wasn't the best part of him or the most sensitive, so he gave up after a short while. Inyala had been watching him with cool interest, and a little bit of amusement twinkling in her eye, but now that he stopped, she asked him a question again, in her little chattering manner of speaking. Once more, Ashe understood it, and he shrugged his shoulders in answer. "I don't know. Something warm and sweet. I've smelled something like this before but I can't put my finger on where or what..." He trailed off again because he had caught another wiff of whatever it was. He turned to look - and saw an oven. Now, he could have sworn that had been turned off...

The oven had been off when Ashe had entered the room originally, he was pretty sure. There was no way he or Inyala could miss the heat from the appliance, or miss the smell in general. But now it was on and warm and the smell was stronger. It must be a pie being baked, then! Ashe was able to place the smell finally, now that he knew there was a possible placement of the origin. He walked over to the stove, and Inyala made to move to follow him across the counter but he held out a hand to stop her. "Too hot, stay back, don't get hurt," he warned her, and she stayed back obediently. She sat on the edge of the wood topped counter, perched, watching as Ashe went to the white-coated metal stove. He grabbed an oven mitt he saw hanging on a peg on the wall, slipped it on, and opened the door to the interior of the oven.

The door bent outward easy, looking very new and clean despite the fact that everything else was so old at least in appearance. There were no crumbs or burnt cheese or whatever else went on on the inside of an oven. Ashe didn't use ovens that much, so for all he knew most were clean like this, and just his got destroyed because he didn't know much about what else he was doing... Ahem. Anyway, he saw that there was a pie in a tin sitting on the rack. He carefully grabbed it with his mitted hand and pulled it out, setting it on top of the stove on one of the burners. Inyala leaned forward, sniffing hard and long - it definitely smelled good now! Ashe wondered at their luck, finding a ready-to-eat pie. Someone had to have cooked this and then disappeared, right? Maybe they were still nearby. He'd thought they were alone. But the Mansion didn't cook things for guests... did it?

Almost expecting someone to pop out of the blue and yell at him for touching the pie, Ashe threw caution to the wind and hunted down a knife. Using the knife, he quickly cut a chunk of the pie out for himself to share with Inyala. If there was someone else wanting the pie, they'd still have some left and couldn't be too mad. He shut the oven off, grabbed a plate and a fork, scooped the pie up and flopped it onto the plate. He offered his arm to Inyala, who hopped up onto it like a parrot, and he carried her away from the hot oven to another spot on the counter. He set the plate down, and Inyala climbed off. He scooped up a bite of the pie and ate it, appreciating the perfectly baked flavor and texture. Then he scooped a bite and held the fork out, for Inyala to take and eat with her hands, which she did eagerly.

Inyala eagerly took it in her hands and nibbled at it. It tasted good! Sweet, apples. She enjoyed it as she munched, and then soon it was gone and her little paws were empty. She waited for more, her hands outstretched ready to take whatever else Ashe offered her. Ashe gave her another bite and then saved her some of the crust to nibble at while he finished off the rest. She took the crust and chewed like a little squirrel, her tail swishing back and forth as she thought while she ate. Before too long, even that was gone, and they were both ready to get on the move again. Little did either of them know, but they were being watched by something... A little straw creature had been set on the top of the refrigerator, staring with empty eyes. It wasn't until Ashe turned to return to the door that he saw it and he froze, startled but not willing to admit it.

"Oh." Was all Ashe said at first when he realized he was being watched. He shook off the shock and realized it was just a straw toy figure, and that he had one of his own. At first, he had thought it was a voodoo type doll, and that would be kind of creepy to just appear when you had your back turned. It was just the same straw figure that he had already from his last visit, so nothing too thrilling. But maybe... He could sell it. "Yala, could you grab that for me?" He asked her, gesturing. She gave a nod and he let her hop onto his arm, his shoulder, then up onto the top of the fridge. She grabbed the toy and carried it to the edge, where she dropped it for Ashe to catch, before hopping to his shoulder herself. He thanked her and headed for the door, with the treasures of the room in his pockets.

Out in the hall, the chill of the fall was coming through in a soft breeze, as if the door was left open or wasn't sealed properly around the cracks. Or maybe there was a doggy door somewhere that was propped open to let little critters come inside and celebrate too. He walked back down the hall to the next room, the door of which gave way with a gentle push. He walked into what appeared the be a bedroom, but before he could get a good look around, the door swung shut behind him with a thump. He jumped and turned around, having not expected that and instead of seeing a closed door, he saw... Nothing. A solid wall. That was weird. "Did you see that?" He asked Inyala, who agreed with him. She was looking over his shoulder at the blank wall as well. There had been a door there a moment ago, they'd just walked through it!!

After a few more moments of pondering, they turned back to the room to look around. There was a bed, a nightstand with a lamp on top, and a closet with a sliding door. A window showed the orchard outside. The window was open and blowing a cool breeze into the room that felt fresh and chill. Ashe was glad he was wearing a coat today! He let Inyala down on the bed and he sat down on it next to her, half expecting a cloud of dust rise up as his bulk sat. But nothing did, it was almost as if this was a lived in room. But he'd seen no one of course. "Let's explore here, maybe there's something here the Mansion wants us to find..." he told his faithful companion. Inyala nodded and started wandering around, checking behind pillows, behind the lamp, in the nightstand. It wasn't too long before she found another marble!

Inyala wasn't the only one to find one of those marbles; Ashe found one too! He was getting up to go check out the closet, wondering what goodies might be hidden in there. He saw a few clothing items hanging, but none of these interested him at all so he didn't even try to play dress up, or steal. He sort of felt like a thief here; he was becoming accustomed to just taking whatever the Mansion gave to him. If the Mansion didn't want him to have it, it would disappear out of his pocket when he stepped off the property. But it was giving him the 'take everything' mindset, which he was aware of enough to feel like he was becoming a thief. He was starting to not think too much of it!
And now he found a gorgeous necklace hanging on the wall inside the closet. Ah-ha! He'd take this. He even called Inyala over to him so he could show her.

[[Ashe is using Sever Bond]] The harvest had been a great celebration, but it had come to an end as all things do and Ashe had returned home. It wasn't too long, what felt like just a couple of days, before the months had changed again. The air was becoming more crisp, the nights longer and the days shorter. Ashe was already feeling the seasonal sadness, more for the lack of heat than for the lack of sun. He was nocturnal anyway, though late afternoon, still sunny, swims with Alaska were high up on the list of things he missed. He'd been training a little bit, working on learning some new magic techniques. One of these things was a spell that allowed Inyala to be out of Ashe's 'aura'. He didn't understand auras, though Jinx seemed to have some understanding of those things, but it was a distance that Inyala could be away from him without getting hurt. He'd also taught her how to immediately return to him if something bad happened. So this was kind of a test run, they were set to return to each other at dawn. Today, he had with him his trusty little amulet dragon! Charon: Loyalty 0 1/5 Ashe: 0 1/20 October Post 1

Once he was free from the amulet, Charon did a few flips in the air and came back down to hover just over Ashe, close but not touching his shoulder, just barely. He peered at the man first upright and cute, then he rolled over onto his back and looked at Ashe upside down like a lunatic. Ashe chuckled, taking in the fur affected by gravity, and the little horns and upside down face.
"You're a goof. But let's get going, we have a lot to explore, don't we?" Ashe wanted to start with the grounds first. Get nice and spooked out by looking at tombstones, and then go into the hopefully haunted mansion and do some ghost hunting adventures there. Ashe reached up to pat Charon, then walked past the little dragon, beckoning him to follow along, and started down the path. It was a winding, bare stretch of land that went between fields of drying grass, tombstones popping up in the distance. A couple of trees, naked for the season, and some tumble-leaves.

The first tombstone they came to was pretty weathered and almost impossible to read. It belonged to Tom somebody, who had died in a year that ended in 9, but not much else could be seen. There was a quote at the bottom that read 'rot in pieces' so maybe he wasn't the best of guys to have known in life. Ashe both hoped no one would hate him enough to say that, while also kind of hoping that something funny and not too serious would be put on his stone, kind of like this as a joke. Maybe something about him being a master, or being resurrected by his own necromancy. Any of that would be pretty cool.
Charon floated over and peered at the stone, but since he couldn't read and didn't really care for the way humans mark the deaths of their own, this meant nothing to him. He landed on the top of it anyway and peered up at Ashe, curious about what might happen next.

Out of the corner of his eye, Ashe thought he saw some movement. It was very fast, a flicker and not much more than that, but movement nonetheless. Ashe turned his head, not thinking too much about it. Probably a leaf in the wind, or something like that. But when he looked he saw nothing but baron landscape, and no leaves even twitching. That was when he realized there had been no breeze at the time, which meant it was something else that had to have moved... He looked closer, his eyes scouring the land. Maybe a hare or a bird? But he didn't see anything, and the longer he looked, the stronger the feeling that he was being watched became. He decided he was just freaking himself out and shook his head, not falling for it. He beckoned to his dragon and together they walked around the tombstone and continued down the path to look at the next one. It wasn't too far of a walk, but the feeling never left.
