[Schism - Phase Out - 6]
<I am?> Schism sounded surprised, having been more focused on something else, hadn't realized he'd managed to turn himself invisible. <Yep! Do you think you could do it again without being startled?> Nerius asked, as that was the important next step. <I don't know, you're on fire.> Now Schism was just starting to sound more sulky and petty, rather than just panicked.
Still, he did have somewhat of a point, and Nerius reduced the flames. He didn't want to dispel the magic entirely, in case he needed to startle the drake again, but at least made the burning aura less noticeable, and really only around his arms. <Better?> he asked the drake, who just grumbled, <Kind of.> He was still invisible though, which was alright for the moment. <Good. Can you focus on what you're doing to be phased out?> That was the key point here, and he hoped Schism wouldn't be so sulky as to not cooperate.

[Schism - Phase Out - 7]
<I think so, but it's.. slipping.> Schism was at least somewhat cooperative, but sure enough was starting to become visible again. No longer as startled, the instinct seemed to be wearing off. <That's fine,> Nerius assured him, <You'll need to be able to do it from a visible state anyway.> Other drakes weren't enough to startle him into invisibility, if the last tournament he'd been in was any indication.
Nerius let the sarane return to full visibility, before continuing with the training. <Try to phase out again. Think about how it felt like before.> They had somewhere to work from this time, at least, and if that failed Nerius could always flare the flames again.
Schism tried to focus on how it had happened before. To the sarane, it had been like the feeling of sliding between air currents in flight. Sort of, shifting from one stream to another. He tried to do that again, but without using his wings.

[Schism - Phase Out - 8]
Nerius watched him, half expecting the drake to start wiggling again, or flop onto the ground. But no, instead Schism started to flicker a little, bits of his tail disappearing here, part of his wing fading there. Nerius didn't want to break his concentration, so he let the drake do whatever it was he was doing without interruption. But after a few moments, Schism asked, <Is it working?>
<You're on the right track!> Nerius encouraged, <Parts of you are flickering, but you're not fully invisible yet. Keep trying!> Schism did so, trying to slip into that invisible air current. There was a bit of wiggling this time, though that didn't seem to help, and more of the drake flickered, but he still didn't turn totally invisible. <Am I invisible now?> Schism asked, it didn't seem to occur to him that he could look at his own body to tell, but sarane weren't known for their self awareness.

[Schism - Phase Out - 9]
<No, not yet,> Nerius told him, before adding, <I can try to help.> It took Schism a moment to understand what he meant, and by then it was to late, <Wait, you're not going to- ACK!> Nerius had done just what the drake hadn't wanted, and had flared the flames again. He was now wreathed in fire, but it had the effect he'd been hoping for, and Schism had gone completely invisible again.
<There! Now you're fully invisible,> he cheerfully told the sarane, <Try to keep it that way, even once I dim the flames.> Schism was probably giving him a stink eye that he couldn't see, and grumbled, but did remain invisible, and without any frantic scrambling this time. After a few moments, the flames started to dim, and slowly faded entirely. The spell had run out by then, and Nerius hoped Schism wouldn't need to be startled into going invisible again.

[Schism - Phase Out - 10]
Schism managed to hold the invisibility for a while, but after a bit did start to flicker back into view. <That's good! You remained invisible for quite a while there!> Nerius told him, as he gave the sarane a bit of meat. The latter was partially reward, and partially to help get him back in a better mood. It wasn't much, but at least he was grumbling a little less. <Can we do that without the fire now?>
<No more fire today,> he agreed, <I promise.> That was more due his node being too depleted to cast any large fire spells again, rather than for the drake's sake, but it was honest. <Try to phase out again, doing.. whatever it was that worked before.> The sarane hadn't really explained it to him, how he'd managed to pull it off, but that didn't matter for training, and he wasn't sure how good a sarane's description of magic would be.

[Schism - Phase Out - 11]
The drake agreed, and seemed to focus, and after a few seconds started to flicker. <That's it,> Nerius encouraged, <Whatever it is you're doing, keep doing it!> Schism didn't give much of a response, Nerius wasn't offended, the drake needed to concentrate, and slowly, more and more of him became invisible. Eventually, he was almost completely invisible, with only small spots flickering into and out of sight. It didn't last though, and after a few more moments the drake flickered back into visibility.
<That was good!> Nerius was still pleased with his progress, <You were almost entirely invisible!> It wasn't perfect, but it was a lot better than before, even if the sarane wasn't terribly thrilled. <I wasn't totally invisible?> He was pouting a little, but the meat treat Nerius gave him did help his mood a little. They'd just have to try it again, Nerius hadn't been expecting this to be a simple thing to train.

[Schism - Phase Out - 12]
He did give the sarane a bit of a break first though. Nerius wasn't sure the exact mechanism behind purple saranes' ability to go invisible, but they, like most Labs critters, weren't able to hold it indefinitely, and did take some manner of effort to maintain. But once Schism had gotten a little rest, it was time to continue. <Try to phase out again, you almost had it before!>
Schism did as requested, and he started to flicker, more and more pieces of him disappearing from view, until finally, there was no sarane to be seen. <You're completely invisible now,> Nerius told him, <Well, mostly. You're flickering in spots a little every so often.> He was invisible more often than not, but every few seconds a piece of wing or leg or such would flicker into existence for a second. <So that's good then?> Schism wasn't quite sure what to make of this, but if Nerius had more of that meat he wouldn't be complaining.

[Schism - Phase Out - 13]
<Yes, yes it is,> Nerius assured him, though he did still need to work on those flickers, even mostly invisible it was still easy to track his location by that. But that seemed to be about as long as he could maintain the invisibility for now, and the flickering became more frequent, until he poofed back into existence entirely. Again Nerius affirmed the drake's success, and tossed him a bit of meat as a treat, which Schism had been hoping to receive, now that he could see where Schism's jaws were. It was hard to give a treat to an invisible critter, though an invisible critter would likely have an easier time sneaking some food.
That idea hadn't occurred to Schism though, and Nerius gave him a little break before having him try it again. <Phase out again, you nearly had it last time, you just need to be able to maintain it better, more steady.>

[Schism - Phase Out - 14]
The drake agreed, feeling less sulky from either his success, or the food. He concentrated, and phased out, more quickly than before. Schism seemed to know what to do now, at least, even if the execution wasn't perfect. It was getting better, and there were far less flickers of visibility than before. As usual, there was only so long he could keep it up, and returned to a visible state after a bit. <You're getting better,> Nerius told him, <You hardly flickered at all this time!>
After another treat, and a short rest, Nerius had him phase out again. He flickered out quickly, Nerius was quite sure he'd gotten that part down by now, and... he wasn't seeing any flickering. Would the sarane be able to maintain it the whole time? Almost, almost.. no, a bit of his wing flickered back into a visible state for a moment, that was the only slip though, and after a bit Schism became visible again.

[Schism - Phase Out - 15]
<Was I completely invisible that time?> he asked, sounding hopeful. Nerius did have to give him a bit of a let down, <Almost, I could only see a little piece of you for a second.>
<Ugh, still?> Schism wasn't thrilled about not being able to pull it off completely yet. <Yes, but try it again, try to focus on keeping it steady.> Nerius still had no idea if that sort of advice was helpful, but he was trying at least. The only thing he knew worked was fire, and his node was out of power for more of that, and besides, Schism didn't need to be startled into turning invisible at this point. Indeed, he flickered out quickly enough, and Nerius watched closely to see if there were any flickers. Nothing yet... he didn't have a stopwatch, but it felt like it had been long enough that the drake had flickered by this point before.

[Schism - Phase Out - 16]
Finally, the drake popped back into visibility, but, <No flicker this time!> Nerius happily told him. <Well, finally,> the drake's mental tone was a mix of pride, for getting it right, and huffy, for having taken, in his opinion, so long to get right. Nerius hadn't been overly bothered by the time it had taken, he'd been fearing far worse, and gave the sarane a treat.
A short rest later, and it was back to work. <Practice phasing out again,> once wasn't enough, not to mention he'd need to be able to keep it up longer, but for now Nerius was focused on repeating the success. <Ugh, again?> Schism was always whiny about having to repeat training once he thought he'd gotten it right, but Nerius wasn't about to let him weasel out of more practice. <Yes, you need to be able to do that consistently,> he explained, well used to the sarane's complaining.

[Schism - Phase Out - 17]
<Phase out again,> Nerius instructed the sarane, who grumbled, but did as he wanted. The drake quickly vanished, but would he be able to keep it up properly once again? The last time could have been a fluke, but so far, so good. Schism was continuing to keep himself fully invisible, until, after a short time, returned to full visibility. They'd need to work on that, but for now, <That's good, you stayed completely invisible again!> Nerius also gave the drake a treat, but as much as Schism may have wanted to call it done, they weren't.
After another short break, Nerius had him practice phasing out again, and as before, the sarane was able to keep it up without any flickering. Nerius was pleased, but still had him repeat the process several more times, until he was sure the drake was able to stay fully invisible without any flickering to give himself away.

<Now are we done?> Schism's patience for training was as short as ever, but like usual it was more complaining that actual uncooperativeness. <No, sorry,> Nerius had to disappoint him again, <I'd like you to practice maintaining it longer.> Schism grumbled again at this, and Nerius added, <But after that I have something more interesting planned.> The drake perked up a little at that, but he didn't elaborate, for now he wanted the sarane to be able to increase how long he could remain invisible. There was a limit to the time, he knew, but it was longer than what Schism was capable of now.
<Phase out again, but try to keep it as long as you can, but without flickering,> Nerius told him, the drake had received a treat and a rest, and was ready to practice again. He grumbled, no surprise there, but flickered out of visibility without any further difficulty.

[Schism - Phase Out - 19]
Nerius, unfortunately, hadn't found any specific information on the maximum time for phasing out, but what he had found suggested creatures were able to keep it up for about two two attacks worth. He'd time it anyway, to make sure the drake's invisibility endurance was increasing, even if he didn't know the exact goal time.
After a bit, the drake popped back into existence. <Was that better?> Schism asked, sure he was doing better. <I don't know, this is the first time I've timed it,> Nerius informed him, the last few rounds had been about staying fully invisible, not about maximum time. Schism seemed a bit disappointed, but Nerius just had him phase out again. Again he timed the drake, and when he flickered back into visibility, there was a little bit of improvement. <That was a few seconds longer.> It wasn't much of an improvement, but it was something, and Nerius didn't expect the length of time to ever be too long.

[Schism - Phase Out - 20]
Nerius let the drake have another short rest, before having him phase out again. Schism managed to stay invisible for a bit longer than before, and once he returned to a visible state, Nerius gave him a treat. It always became rather repetitive at this point, once the critter had gotten the basic idea, and just needed the practice. This was no exception, and he had Schism continue to practice phasing out, the time getting a little bit longer every time.
Eventually though, the time span the drake was able to remain invisible quit increasing, and Nerius decided it was time to move on to the last step of training. Schism was hoping this was the last step of training, <Are we done yet?> He was as bad as a toddler sometimes. <Not quite,> Nerius told him, <But this part should be more fun, I want you to practice attacking while staying invisible.>
