[Helios - Come - 1]
Teaching him to come when called would be useful, and not having anything more pressing to teach, Nerius settled on that. It was something he'd taught before, so he had some idea of what he was doing with it. A professional might have had a better strategy, but his worked. Or, it had in the past, at least.
He'd brought the whelp to the park on a leash, just in case, but for this, it'd need to be removed. It was too short to get much distance between himself and the hatchling, and he was quite sure he could attract Helios' attention with food. So he unclipped the leash, took a few steps back from the whelp, held up a treat, and called out, "Helios, come!" The hatchling looked up, time would tell if the training stuck, but Nerius was hopeful, and, seeing the snack, walked toward Nerius, wanting the food.

[Helios - Come - 2]
Nerius stayed put, allowing the whelp to reach him, which didn't take long as he was only a few feet away, and gave Helios the treat once he was close enough to reach. "Good job," he praised the sarane, it was always hard for him to tell if that really made a difference for most creatures, but that was how it was usually done, so he figured it couldn't hurt at least.
While the whelp at the treat, Nerius took the opportunity to move back a few feet, looking behind himself to make sure he didn't trip over anything. This part of the field was mostly clear, but there could always be the rogue rock or branch. There wasn't anything in the way this time, and once he was a little way back from the hatchling, and once Helios was done eating, he repeated the command, "Helios, come," once again holding a treat where the whelp could see.

[Helios - Come - 3]
As expected, Helios headed right over when he saw the treat, it was an easy trick to prompt a critter into performing, at least. Once Helios was close enough, Nerius gave him the treat, "Good job!" It was the food, not the praise, that was really what the whelp was interested in, maybe it was different for species other than sarane. They weren't exactly the most eager to please.
Again, Nerius let him have his snack, and moved backwards again, moving a little further than he had before, but still close enough that the hatchling would easily be able to see the treats. Nerius held up one of said treats once he saw Helios was finished with the one he had, and called, "Come!" The hatchling was already looking at him, hoping for food, no doubt, so he hadn't needed to catch his attention this time. He immediately saw the food, and headed right over to Nerius.

[Helios - Come - 4]
"Good job," Nerius praised the hatchling, handing over the treat. Helios was still small enough that he didn't have to toss the treat to keep his fingers safe, unlike what he did with Schism. It wasn't that the purple drake would deliberately try to take a finger off, it was just a case of large jaws and small meats, and it was better to be safe.
Nerius repeated this a few more times, slowly increasing the distance, until he was stopping about eight feet away from the hatchling. Then he was going to get a little tricky; Helios was in it for the food, but this time, when Nerius held up a hand, he wasn't holding a treat. "Come!" he called to the hatchling, who, being used to getting a treat, didn't look too closely at what Nerius was(n't) holding, and walked on over, expecting to get a bit of meat for his trouble.

[Helios - Come - 5]
He seemed confused, when he reached Nerius, to see that there wasn't a treat visible. Not that he was going to go without, the hatchling done just what Nerius had wanted, and he took out a treat, giving it to the little sarane. "Good job!" he still couldn't tell if Helios cared about the praise, but clearly he was interested in the food, and gobbled it down.
That had gone rather well, Nerius had wondered if he might notice there was no visible treat, but he hadn't, and had walked right over. Still, they'd need to do it again, and Nerius walked back from the hatchling once again. Like before, he held out a hand, but no treat, and called, "Come!" Helios walked over without hesitation, he'd still gotten a treat last time, after all. He received one this time as well, in addition to praise. They'd still need to increase the distance, and quit pretending to hold food, but it was good progress.

[Helios - Come - 6]
Nerius let the hatchling eat his snack, and walked back again, a foot or so further than before. No reason he couldn't work on both goals at once. The other was, of course, to not hold out his hand like he had something, and his hands were by his side when he called out, "Helios, come!" The hatchling headed over without hesitation, and Nerius gave him a treat once he got close, "Good job!"
This was going smoother than the name training, though that had entirely to do with Nerius' trainer skills, and not a failing of the whelp. Helios was agreeable enough to the whole thing, though maybe he was just used to having to listen to Schism's complaining. The golden hatchling didn't have a ribbon, even if that probably would have made things easier. Still, they weren't done, and Nerius walked away from the hatchling, stopping a good dozen feet away.

[Helios - Come - 7]
"Helios, come!" Nerius called, and the whelp walked over. The little guy was probably going to be quite tired by the end of the day, that was a lot of distance for a that small of a critter. It didn't seem to be affecting him yet, he was still moving at the same pace, and Nerius gave him a treat once he was close enough, as well as praise. "Good job!"
He seemed to have it down pretty well, but he still wasn't being called from that far away. So Nerius repeated the process several more times, slowly increasing the distance with every call, until he was calling the hatchling from a good twenty feet away. Helios wasn't thrilled with having to go so far by the end, but he was regularly obeying the command. Nerius was pleased with the result, and they were probably about ready to be able to move on to something else.

[Helios - Stay - 1]
The next logical thing to teach would be the opposite of come, teaching the hatchling to stay put. Nerius was honestly surprised the curious little drake hadn't tried to wander off yet, though the presence of food likely helped with that. He wouldn't be able to use food as a lure with this though, as a reward yes, but couldn't use it to catch the sarane's attention the way he had with the earlier training.
The hatchling was still standing in front of Nerius, though no longer focused on him, which was a good place to start from. "Helios," he did need the whelp's attention a little, "Stay." The new word didn't mean anything to the drake, but with the potential for food that came with Nerius getting his attention, he didn't move. Nerius only waited a few seconds before telling him "Good job!" and giving the hatchling a bit of meat.

[Helios - Stay - 2]
The hatchling had no idea why he was being given a reward, but he of course didn't care, and was happy to gobble up the little snack. Once he was done, and looking back at Nerius in hopes of more food, Nerius repeated the command, "Stay." Helios continued to stare at him, and after a couple of seconds, Nerius praised him, "Good job!" and gave him a treat.
It was easy enough to hold the hatchling's attention enough to keep him still, but they needed to work distance as well. Nerius waited until the whelp had finished his treat, giving the command, "Stay." This time he took a step back, not so far that, he hoped, that Helios would try to follow after him. The sarane stayed put, at least for a few seconds, and that was as long as he kept the 'stay' going, before stepping back toward the hatchling, giving him a treat and praise.

[Helios - Stay - 3]
Once Helios finished eating, which never took long, he gave the command again, "Stay," before talking a step back. Nerius only waited a second or so, but the whelp still looked like he was about to try to move. "Stay," Nerius repeated, at that seemed to catch the hatchling's interest long enough for him to stay put a few more seconds, after which Nerius stepped closer. "Good job," he told the whelp, giving him a treat.
Again Nerius gave the command, "Helios, stay," before taking a step back from the whelp. He waited a moment before repeating the command, "Stay," and taking another step back. The hatchling stayed put, and after a few seconds, Nerius stepped closer again, praising the whelp and giving him a treat. It probably helped they'd done this after teaching him to come, and had burned off a little energy following him back and forth across the field.

[Helios - Stay - 4]
"Stay," Nerius gave him the command, and slowly took a few steps back. The hatchling stayed put, Nerius still wasn't having him hold it for long, and once a few seconds were up, stepped back to the hatchling. "Good job," he told Helios, as he gave the sarane a treat.
He'd need to start working on increasing the time next, or rather, in addition to increasing the distance. When actually using the command, he'd liekly want the sarane to stay for more than a few second. Helios wasn't immediately trying to move the second he got too far away now, so he could work on having the whelp stay put longer now. "Stay," he gave the command, and stepped back, this time waiting a few seconds longer. Helios stayed put, though was still watching him, most likely due to the potential of food. Once the time was up, he returned to the hatchling, telling him "Good job!" and giving a treat.

[Helios - Stay - 5]
Now he'd just need to repeat the process many more times. They'd gotten the basic framework down, Helios was staying still when given the command, now they just needed to work on time and distance. Which was exactly what Nerius did as they repeated the 'stay' process. He'd give the command, step back, and wait, before returning to the sarane to give him food and praise. Each time he repeated it, he took another step backward, and waited a few seconds longer.
By the end, Helios was staying from about thirty feet way (which was a long way for a creature his size), and staying put for several minutes. At this point, Nerius was satisfied with the whelp's progress, and figured he understood what he was supposed to do. They'd be able to move on to something else now, though Nerius probably wouldn't keep the training session going too much longer, he didn't want to overtire the hatchling.

[Helios - No - 1]
All that walking around had resulted in one of Nerius' boots coming untied, though he hadn't noticed. Helios had, and was watching the long, hanging lace with interest. Nerius wasn't sure why his food was so interesting, until he took a step. The loose lace moved along with the boot, and Helios pounced, pinning the lace with his little claws.
"Hey!" Nerius exclaimed, the weight of the whelp wasn't enough to stop him, but it did make him stumble a little, though he was more concerned about accidentally hurting the hatchling. Well, that was one way to pick the next thing to train. "No," he firmly told the hatchling, who ignored him. "Helios, no." The whelp looked at him, but didn't let go of the lace. This one situation where Nerius didn't want to try to bribe him with a treat, he didn't want to accidentally encourage Helios to ignore him.

[Helios - No - 2]
"No," he tried telling the hatchling again, who not only ignored Nerius as his name hadn't been called, but also struck at the bootlace with his jaws, biting into it. "Ergh, no!" Nerius was getting annoyed enough that his tone got sharper. It wasn't the nicest thing, but it seemed to do the trick, as Helios finally froze in playing with the lace, and looked at him. It made sense really, the whelp didn't understand the word yet, but like most creatures was able to pick up on tone.
Their stare off continued for several seconds, before the whelp started to try to chew on the bootlace. "No," Nerius told him, using a sharper tone again, though this time is was deliberate rather than out of irritation. The hatchling froze, but his jaws stayed gripped around the lace. "Helios, no." he repeated, staring directly at the sarane, who, after a moment, let go of the lace with his jaws.

[Helios - No - 3]
He still had his claws pinning it to the ground, and Nerius needed him to let go of the lace entirely before he could retie it. Maybe he could try to pull it away from Helios, the whelp wasn't very strong yet. He knelt with one knee (the one with the still tied laces), for a better angle, and tried to pull the lace away from the hatchling. It slid free of the whelp's small claws, but just as it got free, the movement triggering him to pounce after it again.
"Helios, no," he sharply told the whelp, who froze, and looked up from the captured bootlace. They stared at each other for a few seconds, before Nerius slowly tried to pull the lace away from him again. When Helios looked like he was about to pounce again, Nerius repeated, "No." The hatchling froze, and after a few seconds, he continued to pull the lace away.
