There were, as Nerius was starting to realize, quite a lot of plant related shops in the city. True, this one involved more selling plants, and potions made from plants, than the plant creatures themselves. Or at least, that's what he'd been told when he asked about the difference between this shop and Herbologist's Delight. With any luck, the information he'd gotten wasn't completely wrong, and he'd be able to pick up some supplies for pachee breeding.
Stepping into the shop, he wasn't surprised to see a plenty of plants. The fish tank on the other hand, was unexpected, Nerius had no idea what those were for. He walked over for a closer look; there were some silver, which looked like ordinary fish to his untrained eye, but some were glowing, and others had a rainbow sheen to them. Could they be some kind of display pet? He knew somewhere in the city was a shop that sold fish tanks and supplies, but what were these doing here?
Turner was pruning one of the berry bushes he had potted in the store. Fresh berries were better selling than picking them in the morning, so he made sure to always keep them in great shape just in case someone came in needing them. He didn't notice at the very first that someone had come in, until he heard the door. He turned, and saw someone looking at the tanks of the feeder fish for lotine. "Oh, hello there! What can I do for ya?" He asks, putting the shears down next to the potted plant and then stepping closer to the counter (but not around it) to be nearer to the customer.
Nerius hadn't been looking at the fish long when the shopkeeper spoke up, he'd probably been here the whole time, just behind a plant or something. "Hello," he greeted the shopkeeper, who looked ready to help.. and make a sale. "I'm looking for supplies for breeding pachee, I know there's several berries used for it." The details, he was little fuzzy on. Nerius was.. fairly certain he had bred pachee before, though he'd had his illness at the time. The memories were very fuzzy, but he could swear mushrooms were involved somehow. Er, mushrooms for the pachee, that is.
"Some for orbaru as well," he added after a moment, he wasn't as interested in those as he was pachee, but the aargh were little cuties, and he wouldn't mind picking supplies to try for one in the future. There was also that tank, and he couldn't help but be curious about them. After requesting the other supplies, had to ask, "The fish, what are they for?"
Turner was typically a nice person, and he tended to assume that other people were the same. It made his job enjoyable, since he hadn't had any run-ins with particularly difficult people. "Breeding pachee- certainly!" He grinned, having had listened. Turned moved to the nearest bush, that was potted between the two of them. "I have pachee berries for passing male genes and influencing for more females. Females are pretty rare, but tend to pass down their genes more often." He said. "I also have orbaru berries, some for larger litters, some for influencing for the more rare males, or for ensuring a full-female litter."
Then he looked over at the fish tank with pride for a moment. "Those are for feeding Lotine. Lotine are another of the creatures easily bred in the city, but they are admittedly a little different than the others. They reproduce by producing a berry which develops into a lola; feeding them better fish tends to produce excellent quality lola more often."
Nerius considered his options for a a moment, all of the pachee berries sounded like they'd be useful in his efforts. "I'd like three each of the gene influencing berries, and four of the ones for a larger litter." He figured he wouldn't need as many of the gene related ones, he did want some males, and there'd likely be some females who's genes he'd want to pass down. There was no reason not to want a larger litter though, so it made sense to him to get more of those.
For the orbaru fruit, he didn't need quite so many. "And two of the orbaru fruit for litter sizes." Nerius didn't really care about the resulting gender, and while one litter fruit might have been enough, it didn't hurt to have a backup.
"I have one in my garden, but I wasn't aware they could breed," he admitted, and as the shopkeeper explained it, sounded almost more like harvesting from plant critters than standard 'breeding'. It was something he was interested in trying, though his lotine wasn't anything special. But that's what these special fish were designed to help with, right? "I'd like one of the rainbow fish as well."
Turner was ever attentive, folks could always give him that. He waited for the answer politely and then began gathering berries as they were requested, putting them in a brown paper bag for the individual gently. First those requested of the pachee, and then those for the orbaru ones. "Certainly, here we go." He folded the top of the brown paper bag now that it was ready. "Certainly, I'll be sure to get you some. Though, they are of course reusable if you are willing to take a breeding colony, that's usually how we sell them*." He grinned. "I'll get that together as well if that is okay. If that's all for you today, your total will be 500 credits." At this, he moved over to the tanks to go collect a breeding colony to put in one of the portable buckets he sold them in.
OOC: *My explanation as to why these are reusable and only have to be bought once and are reusable.
Nerius watched as the shopkeeper gathered the berries, they were such strangely shaped things. Strange fruit for strange creatures. For the fish, he was a little surprised with how they were sold, but it did seem convenient, "I'll take a breeding colony, yes." It was a bit more up front than the berries, but considering he was already paying more for the berries of today's shopping trip, it would be a good deal in the long term.
Speaking of credits, after the shopkeeper stated the price, he counted out the coins onto the counter. Nerius had brought larger denominations, fortunately, so it didn't take long. It was a bit more than he'd been expecting to spend, but he hadn't been planning on the fish, either. Still, it was easily in his budget, and soon the coins were fully counted out. "That should be five hundred." He expected the shopkeeper would want to count them himself, they generally did.
Turner was pretty quick retrieving all of the fish, and then he made sure that the top was screwed on quite well to the container before putting it down with the brown paper bag of berries. There we go, he thought, now it was all down to the transaction! He politely quickly went back over the amount counted over to him and then nodded. "Thank you, it's all there! Here you are." He said, offering over the merchandise so that they were easily grabbed. "I hope you have a good day. Oh, and good luck with your breedings!"
