Renathan knew that the jibiji needed to learn to dodge things, however, regardless of whether he really wanted to or not. Perhaps he could throw seeds at her? That seemed sufficiently not dangerous... However, she was used to catching those to eat them. Renathan would have to consider the matter further. Renathan does not throw down a seed when he calls out the command this time; to make sure that she got the idea of the training. "Ri!" He calls out, loudly. The jibji happily makes her way down, that same steep dive and soft landing, despite the lack of a seed. Renathan was quite happy with this of course, and gives her a seed anyway. He waits until she finishes her seed and discards the shell, and then he calls her up into the air again for more practice. The jibjii easily completes the command correctly each time it is given after this, even without the seeds. Renathan stops treating her after a while, and instead gives her lots of praise. Renathan is pleased with the training, and decides to move on to something else.

Renathan had recently thought of a new trick to teach the jibjii that would make her ultra cute, in case he wanted to put her into a contest in the future. He'd really love to get her a few ribbons to decorate her place in his room. She was really adorable, and deserved some ribbons, he thought! Renathan digs around in his backpack for a moment while Auburn preened some of her wing feathers after fluffing up quite cutely, and then he pulls out what he was looking for. In Renathan's hand was a bright and fuzzy, but tightly curled, ball of yarn. Renathan carefully places it on the table on the soft snow, and then turns his attention back to the preening jibiji. He wanted to get her used to the strange item at first. It was tiny, and light enough to be carried by the cute jibijii. He wanted to train her to catch it, and go get it specifically. Even differentiate between different colors!

Most creatures could not differentiate between many colors if any at all, but Renathan figured that since birds were typically brightly colored; and this had a lot to do with their reproduction, that they could most likely figure out most colors. He was hoping, at least! First things first, however, he needed to get the bird used to the yarn ball's possibly strange presence. Renathan pushes the yarn ball closer to the jibiji, so that as soon as the creature was finished preening, she notices it. She drops to all-fours, and then moves forward, staring intently at the yarn ball. Then, in an almost catlike manner, she reaches out and bats it, leaping a bit as it rolls away a bit in the snow. The jibji then stares at it for a little while longer, and then seems to decide that it is not a threat. She runs towards it, rolling it away with her head.

Renathan was happy to see the tiny bird be so excited by her newest toy. He'd been somewhat afraid that she would be afraid of it! Renathan was glad that the tiny creature didn't have to go through that fearful stage, and skipped right past it. Renathan watches for a while, with keen interest, as the tiny bird plays by rolling the little tightly-wound yarn ball around. After a few minutes, the creature stops playing with it, and then moves forward, curiously holding it in her front limbs. Renathan decides that it would be a good idea to start training her now. Renathan reaches out and asks her to drop the toy, which she does without issue. Renathan then takes the yarn ball and places it a little way away. Then, he calls out to the jibiji the new command, that would be to go get the item. "Ve'kree!" Then he points to the yarn ball.

The jibiji is smart enough, or at least used to this training thing enough, to hear the tone of Renathan's voice and understand that this was a thing he wanted her to do. However, she wasn't quite sure what. The tiny bird looks from his hand, to the ball of yarn it was pointing at. She was used to his body language enough to know that he was trying to draw her attention to it. She runs over to the yarn ball curiously, and then wraps her front limbs around it, turning towards him with a tilted, questioning head. Renathan grins at the cleverness of his familiar, and pets her on top of her head gently. He then trades a seed for the yarn ball, and is quite happy to watch her eat her seed. It would certainly take a few more times to get this down pat, but he was glad to see her catch on to things as quickly as usual.

The tiny bird quickly opens the shell of her little seed and begins eating the soft part of the seed inside. Renathan watches, his mind wandering elsewhere. He was still trying to think about the issue of how to train her to dodge things properly. He knew she needed that training, but he felt terrible about throwing anything at her. He continued to wonder about this until he gets a soft trill from Auburn. He shakes out of it, and realizes that he'd been thinking for long enough for the tiny creature to finish her treat, and he laughs a bit. It was almost comical, how he could get trapped in his own head so easily, so to speak. Renathan sits the yarn ball up on the table, away from Auburn, yet again. Then, he points at the yarn ball, and repeats "Ve'kree!" The tiny jibiji is quicker in reaction this time!

The tiny jibiji quickly scampers towards the yarn ball, throwing small bits of snow up into the air as she does. She has so much excitement in her movements, that she skids when she tries to stop, and tumbles over the yarn ball. Renathan lets out a short wheeze of a laugh as the tiny bird sits up, looking one way and then the other, as if to say 'did anyone see me do that?' or at least that was what Renathan thought of when he saw it. This forces yet another rough chuckle out of Renathan- who then swallowed. Auburn manages to pick up the tightly wound yarn ball and look expectantly at the mammalian. Renathan takes a dark seed out from a pouch and then trades it for the yarn ball yet again. This was going decently so far, even if the tiny russet bird was a little too rambunctious today. Renathan didn't really mind, as long as she didn't hurt herself.

The tiny jibiji begins to open this seed, not even worrying about the yarn ball that Renathan traded the seed for in the first place. Renathan was always glad that her priorities were so simple. Training other creatures sometimes required a bit of difficulty working around their own whims, but Auburn was both clever and also simple. The mix of traits made her a dream to train, at least now that they were very, very used to one another. The seed is quickly opened up and the soft part inside is devoured. Renathan was glad that he was using the smallest of the seeds, since she was so small herself. He needed to continue to use the seeds to train, after all! The tiny bird discards her seed, and Renathan takes the yarn ball and places it on the bench beside him, as opposed to the table top, this time. He decided it was about time to make it a little more difficult this time.

Renathan repeats the training again by calling out the command after putting the yarn ball on the bench beside him. "Ve'kree!" The he then points down to the bench to give her a quick tip on where the yarn ball was. The tiny bird then scrambles across the top of the table over to where he was pointing, and then hops down to grab the yarn ball. Renathan is pleased, and gives her a normal seed in exchange, since they were smaller. The tiny jibiji doesn't seem to mind at all, and Renathan takes the yarn ball. This time, he was going to make it even more complicated. He wanted to make sure that the jibiji would understand to get the yarn ball even when he isn't pointing to it. Renathan sits the yarn ball on top of the table again, and then waits for the little bird to finish her seed.

Auburn finishes the tiny seed quite quickly, and looks up at Renathan with expectant eyes. Renathan just calls out the command again. "Ve'kree!" The jibiji looking confused for a moment, and glances around, trying to figure out where the yarn ball was if Renathan wasn't pointing to it. After checked the entire bench over, the bird flitters up to the top of the table. As soon as she lands on the snow-covered table, she seems to catch sight of the yarn ball. Auburn scrambles over to the yarn ball yet again, kicking up snow on the way across, before grabbing the yarn ball and turning toward Renathan excitedly. Renathan grins, and then trades the yarn ball for a small regular seed yet again. The tiny bird is happy with this, and takes the seed, cracking it open very quickly. Renathan takes the yarn ball again, this time keeping it in his hand.

Renathan stands up, just then realizing not only that his hind end was a bit cold, but also that it would be a good way to start up the next few training bits. He always had plans for training, but sometimes they were a little harder to come up with than others. Renathan waits until the tiny bird was finished with her seed before he calls out the command again "Ve'kree.", and then tosses the tightly wound yarn ball onto the snow covered ground a little bit away. The jibiji easily leaps and then glides down to the little yarn ball, and then grabs it. Renathan was glad that this was going so well! He then takes the yarn ball without giving her a seed, only petting her and giving her praise. He continues to practice with her with this yarn ball; tossing it a bit away and then calling her to go get it using the same command. He even tosses a stick and the yarn ball in opposite direction a few times, proud when Auburn takes the yarn ball each time. He feels very happy with the command and Auburn's reaction to it a bit later.

Renathan decided to move on to the next idea that he had for training, which was something else quite easy. This time, he puts the first [multicolored] yarn ball back into his backpack, and then quickly pulls out three more yarn balls. One yarn ball was red, another was blue, and another was yellow. He knew that these three were the most different from one another that he had, and he hoped that the way that the bird sensed visual stimuli was similar to himself. He did know that the jibiji tended to eat nuts, some berries, and some bugs. He figured that seeing colors would help them find food in at least two of these three areas? Renathan then bends down in the snow, and sits the three yarn balls down. The jibiji instantly pays attention, curious as to why there were now more yarn balls than just one? None of them looked like the original one either!

Renathan then carefully considers what he was going to do next. How to make sure that the creature wouldn't be confused, but would also understand that there was a difference between all of the yarn balls that actually mattered at the moment? Renathan thinks for a second, and then points at the red one. They would start with red, and they wouldn't overlap them at all. He didn't think that trying to teach multiple colors at the same time would be a great idea. However, having the other colors there was important to show there was a difference, after all. Renathan then calls out the name of the color in his native tongue. "Rae." The jibiji looks up at him, then down at the yarn ball. She knew that the noises that told her to do something never overlapped with one another, so she was confused. The noise for this toy was different than the noise he was making now, what does that mean?

Renathan then takes all of the yarn balls into his hands again, and mixed them up, before placing them down in a different order yet again. Then, he points to the red one again. He repeats the word. "Rae." He specifies. Then, he takes all of the balls in his hand again, and mixes them up again. Then he puts them down in a different order again. He points specifically at the red yarn ball one more time, and then specifies, "Rae." The jibiji watches each time, tilting her head one way and then the other. He always pointed to the same toy, but what was special about it? They all looked the same, except for the color... She stares up at Renathan quietly, curious as to what he was getting at. What did he want her to do? Renathan then points to one of the ends of the red waist cloth he wore. "Rae." He specifies. He hopes that she will get this whenever it comes time to combine the ideas.

After a moment, Renathan picks up all of the yarn balls, and mixes the three up again, putting them down in a random order. The tiny bird looks curiously at him. Renathan doesn't point at anything, instead, he calls out "Ve'kree Rae." The tiny jibiji at first runs towards the yarn balls, and then seems to become confused, since there were three of them. She looks up at him again, curiously. Renathan calls out again. "Ve'kree Rae." The jibijii stares up at his waist sash, and then down at the yarn balls. What did the yarn balls have in common with the waist sash? The creature then realizes that they looked similar. She hesitantly moves over to the red yarn ball and grabs it, looking up at Renathan curiously. Renathan gives her a petting and a dark seed to trade for the correct answer, as well as praise. Auburn seems to have gotten it, but still needed repetition, he figured.
