Fanged was out of practice. She had been asked by a casual acquaintance to locate an obscure, magical artifact. From what she had been told, this object had fallen into the hands of someone that had ill intentions. She had little experience with magic, having only found a couple of humming crystals during her explorations. She had no idea where to even begin locating a magical artifact. Never mind one that might have been stolen. She needed to go somewhere with people that had more knowledge of magic than she did. While Fanged might not know a lot about magic, she had heard rumours of an individual known as the Archmage. This individual was unknown to her, but she was aware that they had a tower where presumably many mages would gather. That would be the place she needed to be. Voxel followed her dutifully as she navigated through the city streets. The Specter was ever loyal and his ability to be stealthy would help her immensely for the duration of this case. The Archmage’s Tower was visible from quite far away. With it in her sights, she had a clear path to her destination. “Magic might not be my fortitude, but I can tell an Archmage’s Tower when I see one!” She exclaimed loudly to Voxel.

He had all he needed now to make his very first node. He remembered when it was just a rumored possibility. He remembered when magic had to be found, not made. Flashes back to when he was younger, seeing a water node shining from behind a waterfall that flowed up due to its influence, filled his head. This was something to celebrate...! And yet he hesitated. He had traded for that last crystal weeks ago now...What stopped him? 'Tomorrow.' he kept telling himself. Perhaps he just needed some inspiration to finally motivate himself to make his way to that shady part of town where the alter resided. For now, the mage tower could do the trick. Usually he avoided the place. The snobbish mages and magical contracts floating about only made him ashamed to have burned away his honor all those years ago. But it would be different soon.....He would finally be one of them again. He clung to the amulet at his chest, and the spirit appeared at his shoulder as it glowed briefly. "You okay...?" the creature asked. "Yes. Or, I will be...." he said, reaching up and scratching under Kioume's chin. "We're gonna go visit someplace you'll like." He looked over at the tower in the distance. Riku +0.2 | Kio 10.1

Fanged was conflicted as she drew closer to the tower. On one hand, she knew it was the place she needed to be. On the other hand, she was quite wary about what she might discover there. Voxel moved closer to her. If he wasn’t ethereal, he would have pushed her forward, but he could only nip encouragingly at the air near her heels. Fanged got the hint and continued on.
“Do you think these people will be friendly or secretive? They might be willing to help if I tell them my purpose, but who can say for certain?”
She would take a moment for observation and get a real feel for the type of people that gathered near the tower. Her first impression was that many of these people desired to conceal themselves. That would make information gathering a bit more difficult. She would need to find someone that had body language indicating they were open to be approached.
“Mr. Red Robes over there looks like he could be a candidate. His face isn’t covered and surely someone who wears bright red robes is asking for attention.”
She watched the individual for a bit longer, frowning when he disappeared into a crowd of other mages. That eliminated him as a contender. Crowds weren’t exactly something she had signed up for. They made her uneasy and she felt even more out of place. She needed to find a friendlier face to help her.

"This is the place...?" Kioume asked, looking up amazed at the size of the outside of the tower. "I feel like I've been here before." he said, curling the end of his tail near Riku's collar bone.
"You probably have, being light itself and all." he said as he walked through the large door which opened by itself. Magic...? Or technology? Then again, who said technology wasn't just a form of commercialized magic, anyway? "I'm sure someone in there has summoned a piece of you at some point."
He looked around in the crowd of people. It was as if time hadn't even passed in places like these. They still hustled about in their strange robes as if they had secrets to go hide somewhere. He hoped he never grew to be like that....did magic do that to people? Or maybe those types of people were just commonly drawn to magic?
What was he looking for, anyway? Inspiration, confidence...? Someone to grab him on the shoulder, look him straight in the eye, and have faith in him. He mentally shook away the worry and hooked his eye on a man in a red robe. A faint smile as he began to approach - but it faded as fast as the person did into the crowd.
'No worries', he thought to himself. 'Don't show fear. Look...friendly? And maybe someone will find you.'

Fanged would need to observe the people around her some more. She presumed that most people hanging around here were at least a little magically inclined, but her endeavor needed some additional discretion. Voxel took a few steps away from the crowd and Fanged followed him. Maybe the Specter would be better at finding someone to help them. He watched the crowd with a keen gaze, pricking his ears forward as he considered the crowd of people. They waited patiently for a moment. A few people walked by, but Voxel made no move to chase after them. When Fanged was about to take over the search once more, the Specter darted forward.
“What did you see?” She questioned him.
The Specter ignored her. His gaze was instead fixed on a strange creature that Fanged had never seen before. The creature appeared to be magical in origin. It was difficult to explain, but it was as if instinct informed her of a magical presence. If this strange pet had an owner surely, they would know at least a little bit about magic! Voxel took a step forward. His ethereal body shimmered as he stepped into a bright patch of sunlight. The creature appeared to have a companion and Fanged took a moment to study him carefully.
The man would be considered attractive under different circumstances. His skin was sun-kissed and paired with his dark hair, gave him a rather mysterious allure. However, she was on a mission and had no time to think about such things. Her eyes narrowed in on the scar on his hand and she automatically brushed a fingertip along her own facial scar. The commonality between them made her relax somewhat.
“It appears my companion has taken a liking to yours. I don’t suppose you’d be willing to tell me a bit about them? I have never seen a creature that feels so… magical.” It took her a moment to find the right word for the creature. “Excuse my rudeness! I haven't even introduced myself yet. My name is Fanged and my Specter buddy is Voxel.”

"Oh?" the spirit said, looking around. Reaching up, Riku questioned what Kioume was reacting to. "I....sense something...different, touching me - but not this me." he made a conflicted face to express his confusion around how to explain the phenomena. He turned around and saw the ethereal creature standing in his 'presence' as it shimmered.
Riku followed the familiar's gaze until he saw the beautiful creature and their apparent human who was approaching them. He quickly noticed the usual immediate notes of gender, species, expression, and notable features. The humanish aspect didn't phase him (living in diverse cities his whole life), so he didn't even really notice the cat ears. The female assumed gender was passively noted, as well as the striking and pleasant white bobcut hair. He also saw the different scars, first being the one across the eyes which had harsh stitching patterns, and instinctively made the effort not to react to it. He rubbed the smooth lumps across his right palm with his fingertips as she made her introduction.
This wasn't the person he expected to interact with - although he wasn't quite sure of who that was, anyway? He also didn't know how she aligned with the tower. Was she a higher mage? He'd definitely prefer her over any of the strange cloaked fellows lurking about. She seemed a bit forward, as if she had business first before pleasantries....but that could be interesting and fun, couldn't it? Who really liked formalities, anyway?
He chuckled lightly at the official introduction that was given after the initial question, bowed his head slightly as a sort of nod at the names, and then returned the favor. "It's okay, Haha. I'm Riku, and this is Kioume." he said, gesturing up to the creature still on his shoulder, who spread his wings and sort of 'bowed'. Riku was translating the entire conversation in his head, through the ribbon of telepathy they were sharing.
"And to answer your question, Kioume is an Amulet Spirit." he held up the rose-gold chain and pendant around his neck. "So he is the spirit of shine, itself...sort of like a complex-massive creature from another dimension who is able to 'express' himself corporeally here in this very limited form through the enchantment on the necklace. From what I've observed, he sees in multiple dimensions at once and grows stronger as his bond with the wearer grows. Who knows where that ends?" he smiled, lost a bit in the wonder of his own rhetorical question. Heh...nerd.
He also turned and bent over a bit to further examine the ethereal Specter. "This - Voxen was it? - is very beautiful...I've heard of them, but never seen one with my own eyes before. The etherealness is very familiar since I have many partially-ethereal friends, but....also quite different. To be fully trapped between worlds like that. It must be frustrating, even if relieving at times."
Such a lonely boy....he had done a lot of research over the years - not to mention that he had the most elite scholars as private teachers until he was fifteen. And magic was his strongest subject, being adept with it. Perhaps instead of someone more experienced telling him he was good enough and ready, a less experienced mage could help him realize he had long been ready for this opportunity again.
