They needed to buy more time, especially as the ground reverberated louder and louder with the footfalls of the colossus getting closer. The sphinx ducked to the side, jumping the fence into a neighbouring garden where she crouched behind a hedge. The agate was making a marvellous show of keeping the colossus’ attention on him, but even so, she had to be careful lest any kind of sudden movement on the ground attract its attentions on to her - she was a fast running, but the nyssa’s fists were very big targets to dodge this close to it.
Okay, okay! I have an idea, she peeked out and waited until the nyssa was drawn almost past her. A part of her told her it was a stupid one. This thing was huge, the sheer energy needed? But, magic was magic, and she didn’t have to pretend to know how it worked, just hope that it did.
A faint pale glow emanate from where on the belt as she focused. The winds slowly began to rise around the area, sending scattered leaves and light debris fluttering and spinning around the nyssa.

You've found the nyssa, and it looks like you have a plan of how to handle it! Looks like things are going well!
[You have rolled a success! Your QP will be added to the bank shortly. Feel free to keep playing!]

Please let it work, please let it work, please let it work.. The sphinx breathed in, out, in again and drew up her hands as the winds intensified. The colossus stopped, drawn to the air moving around it, trying to swat through it. Then, the mammalian’s palm opened, the wings coalesced tighter, and when it snapped closed, the air became tendrils that bound around the nyssa’s feet and arms, pulling it to the ground with a heavy thud. There was resistance (but not like the abomination in the dungeon).. It was a big target, and for the moment it seemed its strength would be enough to rip through the binds, but after a while, the magic proved stronger as the spell settled.
Darky breathed out, staggering back with a tired face, but a growing smile, even as she wiped a bit of crimson from the nose. It worked..
The agate swooped past her above, We’ve stopped it for now, but what now? How do we make it stop permanently?

The nyssa groaned in rage, the ground shaking as it pulled against the arcane binds, twisting itself this and that way. A glint of colour passed between the leaves in the process and Darky narrowed her eyes. There’s something on it’s back..
The agate swooped low, twisting around to make a circle around the creature once more, this time dipping low enough to peek beneath the canopy of it’s back. There, he saw it too - a flash of purple among the darkness of the leaves, right in the middle of the thickest bramble. That.. is new, he murmured, concerned. There wasn’t anything glowing last time, this much I’m certain.
Darky blinked, It could be our missing piece to the mystery.. Can you get to it? The nyssa struggled, arcane binds dissipating as the their time was beginning to wane. The agate swooped closer to the canopy, trying to force his way through, but coming away with scratched armour and piece of treetop on him. No, it’s too thick for me to push through.

No sooner had the words been said that the two exchanged glances from across the smashed up garden and the agate slightly shook his head, No, that doesn’t mean--
--I might fit, the sphinx interjected. You’re much larger than me, but I’ve climbed trees before, I can get down there. The other line filled with a sense of protest, more out of principle, before the rationale of the statements slowly settled it. The agate sighed, I don’t like this plan.. But alright.
Just get me over there and afterwards, if things go bad.. the sphinx grimaced, I suppose just make sure you get me to the Temple.
Don’t make that into a promise, the agate descended low, flying towards her, front claws outstretched. The moment of contact was brief, but she grabbed his arms and suddenly felt herself hoisted into the skies, clinging to the arms with a very intent remind to herself to not look down, just never look down.

The tat-lung climbed higher, swooping up along the sides of the colossus as the arcane binds finally snapped and it shook itself free. As it rattled the canopy, Mear flew towards the base of its neck, keeping low enough to avoid its immediate attention, but far enough that the movement of the body wasn’t likely to swat them from the skies. Above the neck, he looked down, Get ready. Then, let go as the mammalian finally looked down to see the tree bark coming up.
The landing was smooth, ducking into a roll, but the skidding through bark and bramble as the nyssa reared up afterwards sent her through the back canopy like a rag-doll, up until she could snag her arm around one of the branches. Getting to her feet, she braced against it, taking in the surroundings and ignoring the soreness of the scuffle (the armour proving its usefulness in avoiding serious damage yet again).

Evidently the nyssa seemed aware something was on its back, as the arm slowly came up to search along its back, as it to scratch a nasty itch, and the mammalian quickly ducked behind a thicker branch. It knows I’m here! A distraction would be great right about now!
The agate had climbed higher to avoid the arms, but realizing he wasn’t even the target, he quickly swept back down, past the colossus, to land just a little ahead of it. One distraction, as ordered. The dark purple eyes regarded him with annoyance, the hand now reaching back forward, towards him. The agate planted his feet, mind pulling on the core of energy within and shaping it into rope. When he slammed the ground, a flurry of vines sprouted from the dirt, reaching up at the arm and entwining around it. The same patch continued forwards at the creatures, growing around its legs and entwining each. To something of that size, they may as well been threads, but even thin string can hurt when you’re wrapped around in it.
It wont hold it for long, you’ll need to hurry!

Got it, the sphinx pushed off from the branch and waded deeper into the canopy. The nyssa was still shaking and trembling, making the ground unstable, but it was better than outright jumping up and down. The canopy of the nyssa was dark, but it was only so big - it wasn’t long before the shifting of the branches betrayed a glint of light among them and the mammalian rushed towards it. She pushed aside the bramble and was greeted by a strange sight - in the nyssa’s bark was embedded a dark purple crystal, pulsating with energy as veins from it dispersed deeper within and around it. Carvings surrounded it, making it nothing naturally occurring, and a concerned dawning occurred in the mammalian’s mind.
This wasn’t an accident.
The nyssa lurched again and she braced against the ground, feeling the motions increase as it was beginning to slip free of the vines. Darky drew the sword and jammed the tip into the bark, angling it below the crystal and pushing to leverage the shard free.
A snap, leverage suddenly disappearing as the sword shattered the shard, and Darky almost fell onto the ground again. Faint dust and energy slowly dissipated in the air as the hollow looked like a hollow once more.

If she assumed that was the worst of it, that was when the real shaking began. The nyssa reared, bindings and all, and let out a groaning creak more a wail than bark sounds, causing her to lose footing and slide all the way down its back. Uh, she stared ahead, at the great big nothingness just beyond the nyssa’s flank, A rescue would be well time right about now!
The sword was pushed into the bark, scrapping up flakes of bark but finding no true purchase as the surface was too loose to cut into and too rugged to snag. Suddenly the ground went out from under her and she felt the sense of weightlessness which was quickly replaced by a coldness in the gut as the nyssa’s back was distancing fast, while the ground was only growing closer.
A part of her wondered, yet again, if this was what it was like to fly. Another part had time to point out that, no, this was called falling, and falling always had unfortunate consequences, especially if you had long enough time to consider them.

Gravity took hold in another direction, as suddenly the inertia to go down was replaced with an inertia to fling her sideways - or rather to have something else carry her sideways. The scent of freshly oiled leather met her nose, arms instinctually clinging to this new mass that wasn’t making her fall and slowly she opened her eyes to see vibrant green in her vision and a familiar assurance of safety along a deeper connection, simply saying - don’t worry, I have you.
Darky sighed in relief, resting her head against the agate’s armour until the two reached the ground some distance from the nyssa, him carefully placing her down. How did it go?
The sphinx still leaned against him, the adrenaline fresh in the system as various parts subtly shook, It was a crystal of some sort.. I managed to pry it loose, it broke in the process, but with luck that was it and it would be enough.

In the distance the screeching settled as the nyssa leaned forward, arms bracing against the ground. For a moment it almost seemed as though it would collapse, but the creature remained frozen for a long time, before the eyes slowly creaked open again, this time a much more pleasant dark amber. It regarded the surroundings with faint interest, then seemed to hold none as it pushing itself back onto its feet and slowly began to meander back along the way it had come.
That seems an encouraging sign.. the agate murmured, Do you suppose that’s enough?
Let’s walk with it, just in case, the sphinx noted, But for now? Perhaps. However, there’s something else..
The mammalian explained what she had seen in full, runes and veins and all, while they walked. And although the situation seemed to find a resolution as the colossus simply meandered back into its deep dark forest, touching nothing else along the way, the mammalian and agate were left with a feeling things weren’t quite so over in the long run.
