"You'll be fine," she soothed the Houluh as they walked toward the Breeding Center, "Nadia's great and so are her Houluh, don't worry about it, Light." The Houluh woofed a little and stumbled over one of his paws before he caught himself and started to walk again. A little bigger than most, he was a little unsure of himself sometimes after he had grown to look so different than any of the other Houluh. At least some of them could look blue like Genie back home, none of them could really look gold with rainbows. Whining a little, he licked at Jack's hand as she rubbed his head, "Don't worry buddy, you'll do fine, I promise." She smiled encouragingly at him and then opened the door to the Breeding Center, ushering him in and started to fill out her part of the paperwork as they waited on Nadia and Hael. Hopefully they wouldn't have to wait too long.

Hael was in her standard excitable mood. Nadia really did mean to work on her training, but other things had taken precedence - as such, she still hadn't learned manners when walking on a leash, and was tugging away as she bounded down the street. It forced the woman to jog to keep up with her. "Really!" A sincere effort had to be put in to slow the houluh down, and they practically skidded to a stop outside the breeding centre. Nadia sighed with relief; she'd thought they were set to go straight past it. "Thank you for that, dear. Now, this way." Hael's confidence did not falter. She knew the breeding centre! It had been a while, but it was familiar territory. The pair ventured inside, and upon seeing Jack, made a beeline for her and her own companion. "Hello, Jack," Nadia was reserved, but friendly. "What a beautiful boy." [2]

"Hey there Nadia! Hael, lovely as always!" Jack said delightedly as the pair came into the Breeding Center. She smiled and handed over the paperwork to Nadia and kneeled down to pat Hael on her head. Light peered around the woman's legs, as though afraid to see what might happen if he ventured out further, and then he woofed lightly a little in order to bring a little attention to himself. This Matronne was quite... cheerful and wiggly it seemed, and whenever he got that way he tended to fall over his now bigger paws. It was rough, growing up, he decided, and he sat on his haunches and gnawed at one of his forepaws to see if he could get them down a little bit, but it was all for naught. Sighing, he was pushed forward by the woman with a yelp and then he leaned forward and sniffed a little at the Matronne in greeting.

Nadia offered Jack a smile as she took the paperwork from her. They weren't exactly bosom buddies yet, but she enjoyed the other woman's company - she was down to earth, and far less stressful than some of the other individuals she'd met. "Isn't she just," She said with a laugh, scribbling her details onto the form. It was easier now she'd done it a few times with houluh and pachee alike. Pachee were less... strange to observe, despite the having-no-mouth thing. "How have you been? How is your puppy from our previous litter coming along? Mine is a dear little thing." Hael was intrigued. The possibility of a playmate always thrilled her, but this patronne appeared shy. There was nothing to be afraid of! She gave a playful bark and bowed on her front legs, her tail wagging. She wanted him to feel happy enough to have fun with her! [4]

"Pretty good, still pretty young, I named him Spot!" Jack said excitedly. Smiling, she chuckled as she nudged Light forward a little more. It was fine, he would be alright in the end of it, he just needed to get through to things so far, right? Light yelped a little and then slowly edged forward, wondering what was going on at the moment. What was he going to do at the moment anyway? Shaking his head, he then slipped down onto his front paws a little as he woofed a little uncertainly at the Matronne. This... this is how you play, right? Of course there were others back home, but he was too big to really want to play with them, he was afraid of hurting them.
Jack knew what was wrong, and she patted him on the head, "Sorry about him, he's a sweetheart but he's bigger than the rest and that's why he's a little nervous. Light, you're fine buddy."

“Oh, how charming! I called the little girl Indie,” Nadia explained. “I can’t say I know where I got the name from, but it felt right for her. She looks awfully different to her mother!” Speaking of which, Hael wasn’t going to give up easily. Light was a little bigger than the houluh she knew at home... but that was okay! She wasn’t afraid of anything. Trying to put him at ease, she pawed at him gently - they wouldn’t hurt each other if they were careful. No one could take her down! “He is delightful. I hope the puppies get that lovely chunky gene,” Nadia teased. She appeared somewhat embarrassed by her candid chat afterwards, and thus hurried to give the paperwork in at the front desk to distract from it. Friends were hard. “Forgive me. Let us... um. I think we can enter. Shall we find this room?” [6]

Giving a chuckle, the woman shook her head, "No worries at all. Yes, let's go!" She smiled a little at the same time and patted Light's head as he was pawed at and he pulled back a little bit. He was... unsure of this, but he was willing to give it a go! Pawing back at her, he wondered if things would work out between them? Tilting his head, he hoped that they would get to be friends, that was part of this, right? Of course the woman had told him what was supposed to happy. They would just... come home with a puppy? That was hard to imagine.
"How've you been lately anyway? Anything new going on?" Jack asked as they walked down the hallway toward the room. She watched her for a moment and then smiled again. There were new things in her life of course, but she was interested in her new friend for now, wasn't she?

Hael sprang to follow her human along the hallway, but made sure she wasn't leaving Light too far behind. They were going to be friends, after all - she had to keep an eye on him! Her tail didn't stop wagging as she went, offering an encouraging woof to the patronne. "Well... yes, as it happens," Nadia said. There was something to report, at last, that was suitable for a friendly discussion! "I took custody of a very sweet thundergug recently. He's... an unusual case, for his species, but I find him to be rather darling. Do you have any?" The room was easy enough to find. She held open the door to allow Jack and the houluh to go in first; she used the opportunity to survey the interior. They didn't appear quite as impersonal now she'd been there a few times. In fact, there was something charming about them. [8]

Jack and Light nodded at Nadia and slipped through the door, then the woman held it open for her new friend. "Oh a Thundergug! I love Thundergugs! I have one named Kro, he's a sweetheart," she said excitedly. When it came to animals she loved, and she loved a lot of them, then it was time to shine, she figured. Lots of things could go wrong with the species though, when training, they were so big after all. "What's up with him then? I mean, if he's unusual?" she asked, tilting her head after telling Light to go play.
The Houluh woofed and bounded off to shake a toy that was on the floor before picking it up and lightly bringing it over to Hael, only tripping up once! He dropped it at her feet and slowly wagged his tail, wondering if she wanted to maybe play? Of course, if she didn't, that was... that was completely fine.

"Well..." Nadia gave a soft sigh as she sat down in one of the provided chairs. "He is a very sweet boy, I will preface with that. He is, however... more canine than thundergug. Really quite excitable, complete with tail wagging and licking. My only fear is that he will forget his size and cause someone an injury with his enthusiasm." Hael was all too excited at the prospect of playing. Of course, of course! Perhaps they could play tug-of-war? She snatched up one end of the toy and stepped close to him, hoping he would grab the other end. She could take him on, she was sure, no matter how big he was! "I am very fond of him. Thundergugs are lovely things, albeit a bit... large," Nadia continued, with a sheepish laugh. "I will admit to being nervous of them, though Guppy is a dearheart. What is your Kro like, in comparison?" [10]

Listening, Jack nodded a little, wondering if there was any advice she could give her. Frowning, she wasn't sure, "The only thing I can tell you is to train him up quickly to your commands so he'll listen. They're pretty stubborn usually, so be careful. Alternatively, you could always shrink him with the potion they sell...?" While she doubted Nadia would go for it, it would be interesting to see a tiny Thundergug.
Perking up a little, Light delicately took the other end of the toy in his teeth and then hauled backward as hard as he could. He was built pretty well, and that would probably help him against the Matronne, but his tail was wagging gleefully as he pulled.
How to describe Kro? Jack chuckled a little and pushed her hair back, "Well, I gave him that growth potion, so he's bigger than most. He's also pretty disinterested with pretty much everything, though he listens to me and is fiercely loyal. He's won some tournaments and some contests, actually!"

Ah, that was good to know. Nadia knew a thing or two about stubborn creatures, but it didn't make it any easier to deal with them! It was good to be able to prepare for potentially undesirable behaviour in future. "Yes, I started on his training almost immediately. I think I like him big and chunky," She teased. "Kro sounds like a marvellous creature. Would you... would you introduce me, sometime? I-if that's not too forward, I-- I know we are not extremely well acquainted yet..." Hael was pulled further forwards than she thought she'd be by Light's strength. Oof! She'd have to hold on tight! She growled playfully and tossed her head back and forth, trying to catch the patronne off guard. "There is, uh... somewhat of a more difficult situation, at my home, also." Nadia wasn't sure why she was mentioning it - Jack didn't give her the impression of being judgemental. Still, it made her anxious. [12]

Jack laughed, Thundergugs were indeed better big at this point, she figured, though seeing a little one would be rather novel. Smiling, she looked over at Nadia and saw actual joy on her face for a moment before it fell into uncertainty, it seemed. "Of course you can meet Kro! He's big and intimidating but he wouldn't hurt a fly unless I asked him to, really," she insisted with a patient smile, "You can come by the house sometime, or I could bring him by yours?"
Growling a little, Light kept hold of the toy and yanked back as good as he could, wondering if he should drop it or not. Suddenly he did, he opened his mouth and barked happily, putting his paws out in front of himself to prove he still wanted to play.
"Oh? What's going on? Are you alright?" the woman asked, concerned by the sudden change in the other woman's demeanor.

Hael was so invested in the game of tug-of-war that the sudden dropping of the toy surprised her. The weight she'd thrown behind it worked against her, and she tumbled backwards with a shocked grunt, landing on her butt a few feet away. Oh dear! At least Light still looked excited... "I would like that," Nadia nodded, and then turned her gaze down to her lap, examining her nails. It was difficult to approach such a topic with someone she'd recently met... which was ironic, considering the situation. "I... I met a man, recently, a-and he needed help and so I offered him a place at my house... he is a perfectly decent man, b-but it can be a little... overwhelming." That sounded like an understatement, all things considered. If she had been in her own country, having a man in her home who was not immediate family would've been terribly inappropriate! [14]
