The rod would be fine on its own, even if he got a bite somehow. It was wedged into the rocks, then Xentus made for the chum bucket with a quick sprint. He'd kept it away from his campsite due to the strong fishy odor. With his feline blood, he didn't mind it too much, though it wasn't something he wanted to be smelling when trying to enjoy the scenery while fishing. With the newly acquired bucket, the man rushed to bait the riverside in various places. Something to keep the beast occupied while he went further upstream to resume fishing. And just as he'd anticipated, the silhouette of the shark came looming toward the chummed spots. "That should keep you busy, hm?", the man muttered, "Now, stay busy while Xentus finds himself something to eat" Feeling satisfied that the shark would grant him reprieve, he gathered his rod and headed off to cast his line elsewhere.

Serenthal took to the bait, albeit lazily. The scraps of unidentifiable fish chunks were hardly a thrill to hunt or even eat. No, it was dead set on the leopard. Though, it found its own motives begin to muddle. Its interest in maiming the man was the original intent, but the idea grew less appealing with time. It felt more generally interested. Its hunger was fairly sated, though it always had room for more. Its teeth were curious to know the feel of the man's flesh, though its skin also craved his touch. Not the bad metal touch though, it distinctly didn't like that. For now, it seemed to contemplate its motive whilst swimming among the fish chunks.
Xentus made his escape upstream and cast his line into the water. He breathed a sigh of relief, finally having a moment to relax. It would be a fleeting moment, yet he would take it in for as long as it lasted.
