He didn't expect for his little goldfish to grow so big in such a short amount of time. Nor to be so... very affectionate. Repeatedly bringing him her little brown cowry shell to him. Again. And again. And again. He would give it back to her, and she would do this strange little swishy flip like it was the best day ever and flit away IN THE AIR OF ALL PLACES and then come back in a few minutes to be 'regifted'. The beach scene of the mansion faded as soon as he stepped back off the sand and onto cobblestones again. The fish paused as he passed into the other side of the gate, swam back and forth for a second, as if contemplating, then through the portal. whoa... so different! Its like she couldn't decide what to look at first. Flare felt the pendant in his pocket moving to the movement of his legs. liket he pocket moved with him. 1

The sun blazed above the city today, casting long shadows after noon. As he walked, the fish doing her 'regifting' every few minutes, Flare noticed she seemed to be listing a bit. It did feel quite hot. The city did have a body of water nearby. And a fountain. She could splash around in the fountain for a few minutes. Yesh, a good plan. Because although Pethia has some strange things in this southern land, it wasn't too far. And he didn't have to coax the fish to follow him. She seemed... uh... what was that word... Smitten? With his very 'gifting'ness. Following him around doggedly through the air. A few people here and there pointing at the floating fish, like this seemed to be an common occurance? Fish didn't fly. Not normally. However, 'wish fish'... wish fish flew? NO idea. Before them, the fountain spouted up into the sky, and showered down on its wide plate. A few people milling around, but nobody actually 'in' the fountain. 2 x.20

She started flipping and splashing through the water, scattering water droplets here and there. Getting herself wet and having an excellent time in the water. Occasionally taking a gulp of water and squirting water back out like the fountan itself, only in midair. A few people sqeaked at being sprayed by the playful flying fishling, surprised by the appearance of a flying fish. Some pointed, others just walked away. Fish wasn't a popular affinity with the more 'big' or 'small' oriented animal people its eemed. The pale fiery one hung around, acting not-interested and not trying to 'affiliate' himself with the fish being a mischief ponk. She occasionally flew out of the water, offering the shell and having it given back to her a few minutes later. Each time she came back, he got more wet. The water wasn't even cold, but a cool feeling on his warm skin. 3 x.20

There wasn't much choice on socializing your aquatic animals here in the city, in what amount Flare had explored. He kept ot himself, for good reason. Granted, people with tails or various animal features were a long more common here then Tumai... where you were either people, or ssashirk primarily. So few... and he looked more like them too. "Did you have any luck finding the ship?" someone near the fountain asked, as someone else, an indetermined species, like an animal-folk, with large rounded ears on top of their head. "NO. TOO FAR OUT TO GO CHECK." they squeaked, scruffing their toes a bit. "CAN'T SWIM WELL" "Well that's too bad. I don't know how anyone's going to go see what the bookworms want to find this time around." the other answered, looking more... like a duck. Bill and all. But with arms instead of wings. "YOU TRY?" The fish started nudging him again. 4 x.20

"Just because I look like a duck doesn't mean I swim like one." the duck seemed to be a bit offended by the rodent-like creature's question. "I'm a noisy swimmer. Hell, anything is noisy in the water unless you dive down deep." "What do the book keepers want?" Flare happened to turn at the right moment to hear this, trying to cox the fich away. "There's something that was picked from their latest shipment, but they dont' have the time or the muscle to go get it back. SOmethin about being spooky and otherworldly and such. Ike a ghost. But solid. THey asked for help on the questboard, and some people are trying, but its on the docks, and if you bring something unfishy there, you get the glare of god." The rodent snorted at this statement. "THE GLARE OF GOD IS A MYFH." they tell the duck. "Is not. Granted, I may be just a centimental old duck." 5 x.20

Spooky and otherworldly huh... a few perpetrators came to mind as the two move away from the fountain, still arguing over a glare of god. With the fish being quite distracted, he'd have to take her shell away to get her attention, maybe. But this might be a bad idea, calling out something otherworldly in the town square. {Loki, I know you're out there.} he says to the outside. A few minutes pass, and he thinks hes' safe. The strange snake creature must be out stalking some other unfortunate soul. Not that Flare'd complain. He didn't appreciate Loki's intrusion on his life a while back, however. The fish paused in her attempts to get her gifter to react... she looked around, scanning the outside. Through the spray of the fountain, she could see something strange. Like something had unzipped the area, stepped through, and it sealed itself, amost flawlessly. Was it? Conused? 6 x.20

Might as well head for the docks and see what was going on, right? The creature people had moved away by now, out of sight. So some sort of shipment of books for the book...keepers, and they had asked for muscle to go get them back? But spooky and otherworldly didn't make a lot of sense. Granted.... now that he thought of it... the memory floated up to the surface on its own. A cafe. The ring of the bells on a hat. A gentlemans chat. The irrisistable draw of finding ...something that he had a hard time recalling. Was it that individual? It could be. The idea grumbled at him as he walked, trying not to put too much strain. Without his staff/cane, it was a bit difficult to maintain his balance for a long period of time. Thankfully it wasn't hard to stand on two feet when they were the same length. He had to caox the fish to follow him. 7 x.20

{Very good. You didn't need my assistance to recall anything.] The humanish kept walking, past a sinister feeling cafe. A familiar figure sat there, long fingers tracing a mug of six mallow'd mexican cocoa. {And you didn't have to call out like that...] {You heard me none the less. Have you been following me the whole time.} the humanish remarked with irritation. {Not at all. I do have other interests besides keeping tabs on others.] the chaos elemental took a sip of its drink. He didn't see a snake mask here. The coffee skinned elemental smirked as they didn't look right at them. His words spoken shifted subtlely to Tumaian. {I'm curious, why you have an enamored fish, and are heading to a place you've only been downstream from.} {Enamored?} Flare asked, trying to keep the fish from drifting closer to the elemental. {She is smitten by you. By your kind actions. She's too young to really understand what she understands.} 8 x.20

{I have no time for your wit, Loki.} Flare declared, standing tall and determined to get something out of this irritation. Because the elemental seemed to be very interested again and drifting after him. Like nobody saw he was there... not really at least. {What do you know of a belled creature who was sending humans to find something they lost.} The snake mask drops over Loki's features as he walks along, thinking. The fish's senses are sensitive to whatever vibe? he was putting off. Like a zap feeling and she decided on the other wise side of her gift giver was safer to float and fly along. {Sounds like a lure.} he mentioned to himself mostly. Magic wasn't Flare's forte of skillsets, he still had a very new sense to his power, and the world aorund him. {Lures will change shape depending on their prey, and draw them into being weak.} 9

{What creature could create a lure like that? It looked human initially, but I could sense something very off.} "You have a softness of being weak to suggestion spells." Loki pointed out. "I remember now. I saw you interact wit that creature. It did indeed look human. The lure planted a seed of suggestion in your mind and waited. Because they talked you into coming back without another word...." ewll shoot, that little stop of his memory made a lot ore sense. "I did the same thing when I asked for your past." His smile is quite toothy and sharp, being super proud of himself. Stupid flamboiant snake. "The lure likely has chamged shape by now, and thats where we're going to find it." "hwat?" Farle didn't understans quaite what was going on. Neither did the fish, who just listened to talky talky wordy wordy and thats all that was coming out. noie. 10 x.20

The docks were not busy at high noon. Most of the dock worksers had summoned back to their workplace for the mandagory break. For the labor laws must be like UnitedStateofGenevi, hard workers must break to not brake themsealves. Scattered in the shade of the few wearhouses, eating and drinking adn being restful. Nobody seemed to care that a lone man with a tail was walking down the boardwalk with a fish swimming along in the air around him. Or that he air seemed to be shimmering in the air not around him. "How are you not being seen." "Disruption of light reflections; I can draw light away from myself and blend in with nearly anything." the elemental smirked. He could feel the little bump over his lower 'lip' where the rude drake had punched him quite hard earlier in the spring. Did he regret it? Hell no. Not at all. 11 x.20

"If you are such an itnerest in me, what did that initial rumor say around-" "Do I look like a walking information signpost." "If I answer yes, will you leave me be." Loki's laugh sounded like a coughing hiss. "Its never that easy to leave my sight, woodling." he swaggered forth. "So I'm a woodling now." "Wood limb and all, little one." Yet again with the little part. Flare sighed, running his free hand that wasn't holding a shell (again) through his brittle red strands of hair. "I heard words about books. Books, theft and being here. It wasn't in my interest, so I didn't pursue it." He stretched a bit, and looked about at the figures. The humans and humanish, occasional beastman was a busy beast. 'Its not nearly as fun to teast him now that he not a lizard.' The fish stared at the snake figure with a mixture of interest. And disinterest. 12

Loki sighed, resisting giving the not-lizard a piece of his own mind. He'd just come here to look? Ha. The chaos creature wasn't so short sighted. Granted, having a smitten fish and a novice elemental who is just toing the line of his own power. How did he know? The magic didn't radiate from more then just his core from what he could sense. Baby elementals; so much interest in watching them grow. There was some magical sense from the boy's feet. Earth was a fickle and adaptive element that was a very intersting idea. Granted, chaos is much more fun to play with. To draw on the leylines until they struck with a zap. The elemental glanced at the water, lapping the docks a bit. This was people docks, but the pet docks were a bit further south, at least thats what it read on the sighnposts. Human signposts. Humph. So that makes sense of why people glanced at the fish with distaste. 13 x.20

"Hey kid. Pet-water is down south." a random dockworker called out, gesturing at Flare and the fish. "Walkin' your fishie in a work area is not smart." "I'm looking for the ship of a trader who is bringing something from home for me." turning around, the humanish responded with confidence. "My fish is simply learning how to follow me in confidence." The dock worker glanced between the poised youth, his gray eyes had an intelligent and poised look to them. The strange garments spoke of foreign heritage; aside from his bright hair and wooden foot. "They were carrying some books for me to study with." "to... study with? Uh..." he had to think for a bit. "There's a book boat that's come into port not long ago... but there's been some complaints of theft of property left on the docks. Its' been reported to the harbormaster, but... I"m not sure what's up." 14 x.20

"Where is the harbormaster? My desert kinfolk paid the shippers quite a sum to send my books with haste, and I would hate to write back and sully the shippers and the harbor for lost stock." Flare's tone took a more... cityish tone. Like a spoiled rich child who was getting a present. Loki briefly colored himself impressed. "Ah, um. Harbormaster's office is about halfway down the dock to the south, its a bright orange building; because nobody seems able to find it when its white. I gotta... get back tow ork now." As the dock worker hurried away, mopping their head with their sleeve, a smirk with an exposed amount of teeth crossed the tumaian youth's face. "My my, such a wordsmith." Loki rested his masked chin in his scaled hand. "I never would have pinned you as a liar of the common tongues." The not-dragon scratched his head a bit. 15 x.20
