While being comfortable with magic was part of using it, it was important to not grow complacent. It was a force that demanded respect, and if used carelessly, it could spell one's end. Such was the dragoness' philosophy on the matter, which she occasionally pressed to Xentus in the past few days. Her own usage and experience with magic had been limited, though she wasn't afraid to try conjuring the force forth if needed. The need rarely arose however. She continued to trail along after the flying duo the best she could, her counteractive magics at the ready. 'Good, very good Mashi', the leopard murmured into the alurook's mind, 'If you are not exhausted, let us try again. Calm the storm. You know its fury already' Mashiik blinked hard a couple of times to clear the haze her mind was cast into. Her flight slowed. She felt the strain of expending the magics, but was compelled to try again. To use the storm without being in it. That would be ideal, wouldn't it. A mental hum of affirmation was passed to the leopard as the bird picked up speed once again. She raced of her own free will - to incur the likeness of the storm for her own use.

A twirl, a sway, a dance in the winds. Her flight was freeform and almost elegant. And it made Xentus both excited and nauseous. The leopard held on tight, pressing his body into the golden plumage so much that he could feel every muscle twitch beneath him. With the great size of the owl, his clinging hardly affected her mobility. And if this was how she flew with him, she'd be even more free without him. The closeness was assuring and gave her more to think of than simply herself, otherwise he might've been fine letting her fly solo. And the thrill ride was something he didn't quite want to pass up on anyway. 'Build the magic, let it grow', Xentus instructed, feeling the mana flowing to the bird's wing-tips. Agility was key here - much like the grace she needed while flying through the storm. Mashiik remained calm and did as she was told, bundling her magic where it could gather strength.
'Now, Mashi, unleash the winds', the man said once he felt the magic sufficiently bundled in her wings. A trill escaped the owl's throat as she spun in the air and flared her wings out, letting the ether escape as a dazzling current of air. It disappeared into the sky, leaving no trace. Akinai watched carefully, noticing the magics the bird used seemed different. The emotions called weren't of fear and panic. They were calm, focused. Perfect.

'Very good, Mashi, very good' The praise came in a quiet, hushed tone. Xentus quelled his excitement incase it might provoke the storm's rage after all that magic was unleashed. Mashiik was... Unfortunately easily swayed by emotions while in this kind of mentally vulnerable state. The alurook chuffed, pleased with herself. And then the exhaustion hit. The flight slowed down and their altitude dropped. Thankfully, the alurook maintained control. The two came in for a landing near the riverbank, meeting up with Akinai at the water's edge.
"That was good, Xen", the dragoness greeted them, "I can see the growth that bird is making. From trying to fry me to conquering the winds, who would've thought" The offhand comment made the leopard feel guilt return. He really wasn't sure if it was supposed to be a compliment. "This one appreciates your ah.. Kindness in assisting and watching over Mashi and Xentus", the man retorted with a pleasant tone, acknowledging the dragon's help despite the dangers.
(Tired...) The alurook spoke in his mind, white eyes looking sullenly at her keeper. 'Xentus understands, Mashi. Let's get you some food and rest, you deserve it', he pressed his thought to the bird, turning to meet her gaze.

The notion of settling down for food and water appealed to each of them - breakfast had been unceremoniously skipped in favor of magic training. And so the three made their way upstream to return to the campsite, soon finding themselves guided by a delicious scent.. Xentus had set up a fire to smoke some fish over while they were away, which thankfully was still there on their return. There were few pesky critters roaming the canyons that might steal a cooking meal, aside from wandering dragons presumably.
"Smells good", Akinai commented while trying to keep drool from escaping her jaws. Her serpentine form slinked forward and skirted around the fire, nosing one of the fish with her snout. A side eye looked to Xentus for approval, which he gave in the form of a nod, before her teeth sunk into the cooked flesh and slid the morsel off the stick. While raw food was her usual diet, she wouldn't turn away a far tastier cooked meal. Mashiik was next in line to peruse the menu. Cooked, raw, it mattered not as long as it was filling. Xentus tossed the giant owl a pair of raw fish, knowing she wouldn't care much for a raw meal. And his own choice was cooked, of course.
"This one thinks he'll take Mashiik back home", he mentioned to the dragon over lunch, "But he will return soon. He promises"
"You'd better, Xen."

Fishing Trip #3 > Xentus, accompanied by...
A dragon of the bright, healing sun, a dragon of the cold, dark night. What interesting company the man had found himself in. The two drakes were circling one another, eyes locked in an intense stare down. Xentus watched, unsure of what to make of the scene. The young, strapping Helios wanted a playfight, seeing as his sister never wanted to do any form of roughhousing which might dull her gold scales. The nebuli was his target. He thought it was quite the facsimile of a dragon, and so it might want to play like one too, right? Alas, the ghastly apparition was not too keen on this 'play'. It was defensive, stalking in response so that it might anticipate the young drake's next move. The leopard took the role of referee, ready to step in should anyone get too serious. Given the spectral nature of the nebuli, any actual results from an skirmish between the two would be a surprise. Young Helios was unaware of this quality of his opponent, and instead saw the wispy nature of the beast to be some kind of illusion. He, for one, was keen about illusions, so whatever tricks this thing had wouldn't phase him!
