> Xentus, accompanied by...
Was it odd, bringing a robot to.. Adopt robots? Not much different than sending a droid to purchase other droids, he supposed. In any case, Xentus accompanied Xio to the adoption agency to ensure the trod was seen and understood. Being the strong silent type wasn't very conductive to doing things like this. Matthew was friendly and had handed the duo some forms while asking about what kind of creatures they were looking to see today.. A query Xio likely wouldn't have answered alone. The trod was an odd one, but the aversion to talking was a trait Xentus found oddly charming. Because, when it did decide to talk, the moment was all the more special.
The duo were let into a small room for the robots- a somewhat bland storage space with a couple of nice paintings on the walls. Robots typically didn't need much in terms of space or play things, so them having a more luxurious space was not preferable when it could be going to the various creatures that were housed here. Xio stared hard at the three mechanical creatures that were housed here. Two scrap metal robots and a bronze scuttle. If it could frown, it would.

Xio honestly preferred the company of the living.. The cute and cuddly sorts, like orbaru (and recently, it had taken a liking to pachee as well). It even liked the nearly mechanical golems that the leopard was rearing. But fellow robotic beings of metal instead of flesh were not really something it favored. Xentus picked up on the droid's lack of delight.
"What is it, Xio? You told this one you would like more company at the keep, no?", the leopard questioned, "Xentus thought a couple helping hand droids might do you well." The mammalian walked toward the odd looking black, tentacled robot that crept along the floor. It hardly paid him any mind, until he poked its metal hull, a motion which nearly knocked it off balance. Its inner gears and mechanisms whirred and buzzed as it steadied itself, large purple eyes seeming to look up at the mammalian with a questioning look.
"It is kind of cute, if you squint", the man chuckled, looking at the unimpressed white trod. The sound of a sigh escaped the droid in an attempt to audibly communicate its contempt about this whole idea. After a moment's pause, the droid gave in and walked up beside the leopard.

Amazingly, the scrap robot was as unimpressive as it was up close as it was far away. If it's metallic face had lips, it would frown. Alas, it had none. But it could definitely send its signals of unimpression and contempt through their brain link. That worked perfectly fine. It noticed the leopard's frown and tilted head. Xentus gave the droid a pleading look before turning his attention back to the jellyfish-like robot. A clawed hand was held out to it, which was promptly probed with those flexible tentacle arms.
"Just think, Xio, this one could do something like ah.. Help carry feed to the pens. Or supplies!", the leopard mused aloud, thinking desperately on what menial tasks the robot might be suited for. It was barely tall enough to reach knee height, and it likely wasn't strong enough to do much heavy lifting. But it had to be useful for something. If not, then it did still (probably) made for decent company.. Right? The bot whirred as it scuttled toward Xio, large magenta eyes examining the shining white droid. A probing tentacle reached out to touch the trod's metal leg, but Xio stepped away, seeming appalled by the idea of such an action.

"Well, this one may find a use for it if Xio sees none", the leopard admitted with a shrug, "But at least give it some consideration. What is the worst that could happen?" Xio didn't seem too thrilled, but with another audible sigh, decided to entertain the leopard's wishes. The droid knelt down, gleaming red eyes staring hard at the scrap robot. A probing tentacle made contact with the metal hull, gingerly examining the new addition to its home. These two beings were something different. If a robot had some sense of curiosity, it was displaying that now. A short beep sounded from the bot, seeming to find the trod acceptable. It then scuttled over to the leopard to repeat the process.
"Not so bad, right?", Xentus teased, "Almost as good as a living little pet. Just has more ah.. Moving parts." A fanged grin spread on the leopard's muzzle in his best attempt to banter with the droid. He could've sworn he heard a slight grumble come in reply. Certainly it was only his imagination though, right? He got the feeling that Xio was reluctant to let the scrap bot grow on him. Maybe the sound of a kennel helper did sound nice after all.

From what the leopard knew, this kind of bot was something like an antique find. Some old and defunct workshop let willing folk put together whatever they could from the leftover scrap bits. Most of the time, they ended up with piles of machine parts stuck together in a jumbled mess. And sometimes they got working droids. Honestly, the black painted tentacle-bot looked like it was rather haphazardly put together. But it worked and still functioned so.. It was successful enough. Xentus was curious to know how it ended up here at an adoption shelter for creatures, rather than scrapped for its parts. Maybe its previous owner had some kind of sympathy for it. With how the robots produced in this city imitated life, he could see how it could be hard to 'kill' a beloved robotic companion.
"... Acceptable", Xio finally spoke, leather hand patting the top of the bot's head. Xentus blinked in surprise. A change of heart after all, it seemed. Maybe some kind of fellow robot empathy going on here? The surprise mellowed out into a relieved grin, happy that the droid found something about the scrap-bot to like.
"Hmm.. What about this other one?", the leopard pointed at one of the other bots in the room.

Unvoiced within, the droid just wanted to get back to the company of the creatures at the menagerie. But no, the leopard pressed it on to look at another bot. The magenta-eyed black one wasn't enough? Sure, it could think of some use for the bot, but another one? Those emotionless red eyes stared at the leopard for a moment before panning over to the couple of other robots in the room - a scuttle and a strange white hulled robot. This one also had tentacles, but also raptor-like legs? Xio almost scoffed. That one truly looked like some kind of toy. What an odd amalgam of parts.
The leopard was looking at it expectantly. But seeing that the trod didn't seem keen on taking action, the mammalian took the initiative yet again. He sauntered toward the knee-high droid and poked at its metallic head. This one wasn't so easily tipped or tilted, given its sturdy looking legs and feet, but the action did gather its attention. It whirred and made a whistling-boop noise, head tilting at the strange man as if to question his offending action. It only made him chuckle, though.
"Look Xio, this one might even be nice to teach little tricks, no?", the leopard asked his companion.

"It might even prove to be a helpful little servant alongside the other", the man continued musing aloud, imagining how the little droid might be of use around the keep. He felt waves of resignation from Xio. "Well, in any case, even if Xio doesn't favor the bots, Xentus does. Come now, are they not cute? In.. Their own metallic sort of way?", he subtle pressured the trod. Even though robots weren't his first choice in companion, he did own two liquid steel bots. The cat one was certainly cute and even acted like a cat! The dragon was a little more reserved, more of a novelty than anything admittedly. Then there was Xio, who Xentus regarded more as a fellow person than merely a service droid. And Xio made for fine, if not quiet, company.
"Give it some thought, Xio", the leopard chimed, "These bots would not be extra mouths to feed or seek to be tended too. Not a burden, only a potential help." If there was any any quality of robots that the leopard liked, it was that they could be left alone for an undetermined amount of time and be perfectly fine. Some might need charging, but at least he'd never come back to a dead robot.

The scrap bots were a sure sign of that. They had little sign of age aside from a dullness to their metal hull and a bit of rust. Purely cosmetic and easily remedied. They weren't sick, and seemed to function well enough. They.. Moved around at least. And seemed somewhat curious about their surroundings. Or observant, rather. That was probably the better word. If anything, the age of the robots showed in their simplistic programming and responses. Nowadays, bots were able to mimic emotions and behave like animals. These ones kind of bumbled about until something happened. Perhaps they could do more if they were reprogrammed properly. It wasn't within his expertise, but it sounded plausible.
The raptor legged white droid marched toward Xio, gleaming cyan eyes staring at the trod. Its steps were clunky, stamping down on the ground with a resounding tin. Its tail dragged behind itself lazily, but curled up cutely once it came to a halt. Xio hardly seemed convinced for the need of two of these odd scrap robots, but it entertained the leopard anyway. Give it some thought, huh.. As a servant to its master, it respected the man's wishes. Even if it felt them obtuse.

A tentative leathery hand reached out to touch the white hull of the knee-high bot. Maybe it only imagined it, but it felt like the scrap droid pressed its head into its hand. The prospect was impossible, these things looked too primitive to have touch sensors in their hulls. Unless it was a programmed behavior? Xio made the mistake of pondering about the scrap bot. Oh it was starting to grow on it after all, wasn't it? Despite the hope of coming here to adopt living abandoned creatures getting crushed when presented with bots.. Perhaps they weren't so bad after all. Xio's hand withdrew as it thought more about the prospect of having robot helpers around the keep. Its master did have a point. They could serve as some form of helping hand or another.
There was a somewhat smug look on the leopard's muzzle as he watched Xio's actions. Robots weren't too hard to read when they were designed to emulate sapient emotions. And well, he could tap into the robot's processor and know its 'feelings' directly. Xentus crouched next to Xio, opting to interact more with the scrap bot. A clawed hand was offered to it, curious to see how it might react.

Its tentacle arms probed at the mammalian's padded palm, seeming to collect information on what it touched. Those unblinking eyes motioned toward the leopard, as if to ask what he wanted. Or perhaps to verify that it was indeed his person that the hand was attached too. He did like to anthropomorphize these kind of things.
"Xentus thinks it likes him", he murmured to the trod with a toothy grin. Whether it actually did or not (or if it was even capable of such a complex feeling) mattered not to the leopard. He was just trying to convince Xio that such a cute little thing was worth their attention. And Xio.. Was resigned to agree with what its master wanted. And yes, perhaps the scrap bot was growing on it. The trod didn't want to admit as much, but it supposed it could bear with having two of the odd things to help around the keep. Perhaps ferrying supplies about.. Or entertaining the young in some way. It could come up with something if the leopard was leaving them in its care.
"Arrik.. Lonn..", the trod murmured a couple of names, gesturing to the black bot first, then the white one. Xentus nodded in approval, beaming at the robot. Oh to hear the droid's quiet voice was a treat. With that, it was settled. Xentus filled out the paperwork properly and went to turn them in.
