Renathan was a little anxious- he had no idea how the creature liked to play, but he patted her on the beak and then went over to go check out the shelf. He didn't have to get too close to it to realize that all of the toys were VERY used. Oh, that made Renathan feel two completely opposite emotions all at once. On one hand, it looked like the critters were played with commonly. On the other hand- it looked like they might have been donated this way, and there weren't very many new toys here. He frowned softly, and reached out to grab something rubbery that looked like it could withstand such a strong beak. He brings it back over to the chiryma fairly quickly, but holds it awkwardly in his hands. He's not entirely sure how she likes to be played with again, and now he had to figure it out on the fly.
The chiryma politely waits for him to get over his hesitation. She watches him with those sweet eyes and kept her mannerisms careful. She seemed to notice that Renathan was sometimes a bit of a nervous wreck- moreso now than he ever was before. His loss in the tournament had ruined everything for him, he felt. It was the beginning of the end. However, he felt like maybe, just maybe, this could be a bit of a restart for him. He really shouldn't be this tempted to adopt another creature- what with his downsizing, but...
He reaches out, and holds the toy out. The chiryma reaches out slowly and nibbles on it. Oh, that was cute! Renathan can feel the tightness and anxiety in his chest sort of melt away. He felt like he could breathe again. He gently tugs the rubber toy, and at first the Chiryma lets go of it, watching him with a motherly expression.
Renathan offered the toy to her again, trying to see if she would get what he was trying to do. He wasn't entirely sure how quickly she'd take to it. Chiryma weren't especially smart or anything of the sort, but they did tend to have some... Vague understanding of emotions or something? He remembered reading about that way-back-when. However, the second version of Chiryma weren't as good at it as the first, which was weird to him- why would one of the most interesting parts of a species be dumbed down in the 'improved' version? The russet mammalian did not pretend to know anything about this sort of science, so he guessed he couldn't complain.
The pair take some time to figure out how to play with one another. The rubber squeaky toy wound up being a great choice, and withstood her beak well despite it's well-loved nature. Renathan had quite a bit of fun, himself.
Renathan steps away when the chiryma becomes somewhat tired. He pets her carefully on the beak, and then goes to put the toy back where he found it. He didn't want to leave a mess. That was when he realized- he'd have to leave sooner or later. He needed to make his decision soon. He was completely torn about the situation at hand. On one hand, he could certainly care for her- and she was perfect. Her temperment was the best temperament he'd seen on a creature of her size. She was almost like a bigger, more dangerous Auburn. On the other hand- did he really need any more animals? He frowns at this. Need? No. Want to provide a home for this very special creature? Yes.
Renathan hears a noise behind him and JUMPS! Oh, there was the owner of the place, and with paperwork as well! About five pieces.
The chiryma looks super sad as Renathan goes to do the paperwork. He leaves the room, and her eyes sort of go a bit dull before she turns back and goes to the back of her cage like she had been earlier. It broke Renathan's heart. If he had any reservations at this point, that would have cemented the deal. He speaks politely to the purveyor, asking a few questions about her, and then he fills out the paperwork. He hadn't come in today looking for critters- in fact, he'd wanted to check out the efficacy of the place to perhaps use it to find good owners for pets in the future that didn't sell. What he had seen instead had broken his heart, and now he might be coming home with a new mouth to feed.
He had the money and space to accommodate her comfortably, and he really wanted to play with her in the future. He turns in the paperwork, and waits.

Twilight-Claw: I like this part "and would like to remind you that lost digit reattachment is a service offered at all Labs-Aligned hospitals within the city." of them a lot for some reason, I don't think many people go to that establishment a lot. x3
