Please note...- The last date to post your introduction post is 72 hours from this post. Without an introduction post you cannot battle. - Certain moves can't be used in the Pit because of the surroundings and other moves can affect more than one creature at the same time. After all introduction posts have been posted you will be informed whether those two apply to any of your creatures' moves. - That you have 72 hours to post a response to a calculation post and/or roleplay post. The 72 hour deadline is not extended if your foe posts after a calculation post. Not meeting the deadline results in an automatic disqualification. - That characters level once every 20 posts in the Fighting Pit, but pets gain levels and loyalty towards their owners normally.

When Noa had first signed up for the tournament, he had thought it would be more... Well, more exciting, he supposed. It wasn't exactly a free-for-all, but surely there were enough cold-adapted beasts in the general populace to make for an interesting line-up. And the Thundergug had seemed like a promising opponent, only to turn out to be an ill-trained last minute entrant.
Their next opponent had been a Malii. Really, it was a surprise the handler hadn't forfeited after laying eyes on Avander.
There were even rumors that some didn't show up for their matches at all. Winning was winning, but it sort of sucked the fun out of it if you won by default.
"First again, huh?" said Noa as they walked into the Pit. Their opponent hadn't arrived yet, and Avander didn't seem any more worked up than Noa did. "Well... I'll be up there if you need me."
Avander rumbled a wordless assent, and Noa meandered up to his place in the stands, stifling a yawn as he went.

> Xentus, accompanied by Alerios
The thundergug proved to be an interesting opponent - at least more interesting than the deer. It had fight and got a hit in, but it ultimately went down without much trouble. Xentus couldn't complain about it though - he hadn't yet seen defeat and wasn't planning to. Still, he couldn't quite head into the next battle with confidence. Nothing tested them. Alerios even only saw the fights as hunting for prey (and thankfully the beast was well mannered enough to not eat the opposition). They arrived to their next fight in good time, and surprisingly they'd been beaten here. {Smells wiurn}, Alerios commented, eyeing the beast in the sands as they approached. A strange looking wiurn, but his own winged reptile was the same kind of strange. The leopard frowned, feeling a cold anticipation rising. This one would likely be the challenge he'd been waiting to come - predator versus predator. [Take care, Alé. This one watches from the stands], the keeper told as he let the beast into the pit.

Noa had been slouching against the railing with his chin propped on the heel of his hand when he saw the opponent walk in. A slow smile spread across his features, and even the dull look in his eyes brightened as he took in the other Wiurn. "Oh look at that, Avander. He's got more hair than you. And oh, the way he's moving - that's a sharp one alright." This, finally, was something he could get excited about.
{My mane is nicer,} Avander said, a slightly sullen note to his voice. Noa let out a low chuckle at that. Interesting that Avander didn't boast that he was stronger. Despite all the bravado he put on, apparently even Avander had moments where he felt outmatched by a bigger monster.
Well.
"Let's show them what we're made of then. Sing for me, will you?"
On Noa's signal, Avander inhaled deeply, a resonant rumbling already forming in his chest as he prepared to unleash his sonic blast.

The clash of scales and fur began. Xentus's frown remained as he watched the opposing wiurn, trying to gather what he might expect from it.. But he drew no conclusions from appearance alone. A quick breath in steadied his mind, a long exhale out calmed his nerves. [Take flight, Alé], he commanded the beast cautiously. A flighted fight was an interesting idea (and honestly, who wouldn't like to see two wiurns duke it out in the air?), but the extra aerial maneuverability was what the leopard was most after. Alerios seemed to anticipate this call, shifting its body as the words flowed through its mind. Running in with reckless abandon wouldn't work here as it had before. They'd take this slowly and carefully to see what the opposition was capable of. The wyvern reared up and unfurled its wings, beating hard to lift itself off the ground - and hopefully out of the way of anything the opposition threw at them before it was too late.

Calculations
Avander uses Sonic Blast! Sonic Blast is a SnD move, Danger Sense deactivates! Avander's Dexterity of 8 + 3 rolled by staff = 11 vs. the 7 Dexterity of Alerios Avander will deal as much damage as possible! Avander's Strength of 10 + 4 damage of Sonic Blast = 14 14 - 9 Resistance of Alerios = 5 Alerios' Stamina is now 11
Alerios uses Fly! Alerios' Dexterity is now 12

The white wiurn began to take off, but the sound was inescapable. Whether on the ground or in the air, the directed sonic blast cared not. Alerios loosed a growl of pain through bared teeth as the shockwave rattled its body. Even Xentus winced from the noise, feeling it from his spot in the stands. He watched as the wyvern shook it off and steadied itself into flight, properly gaining some distance from the rivaling reptile. Unless their opponent decided to take to the air as well, they'd have some height and maneuverability advantage. Just how much of an edge it granted was yet to be seen. [Let them hear you too, Alé! Roar!], the beast's keeper commanded. It wouldn't be nearly as impressive as what Avander could do, but it was some kind of show of strength regardless. Alerios drew in a deep breath between wingbeats and loosed it in as great of a battle cry that it could muster.

It was always satisfying to watch the impact of a strike hit home, and this time was no exception. In fact, there was a sense of relish that hadn't been present against the last two foes. Avander, too, seemed satisfied to have struck a blow against the other Wiurn, even if it wasn't the decisive sort that ended a battle.
But it wouldn't be a satisfying opponent if they couldn't fight back.
Noa clocked the other Wiurn's intent and clicked his tongue, keeping his hands over his ears. The opening volleys of sound were almost a formality at this point, and no matter how many times he was privy to it, it never became any less unpleasant. Avander, down in the sands, had no such recourse, and could only wince, shaking his head.
No doubt the opponent would press his advantage now, with both height and Avander's distraction on their side...

The way Avander flinched was inevitable, but it was only for a moment. He was already coming out of it, no worse for wear except a little ringing in his ears. He made a low rumble, half complaint and half threat, his eyes trained on the opponent who was now wheeling above him.
"Follow him up," Noa said. "Fly." It wasn't a very fun or interesting command, but letting the other Wiurn attack from above would be making a sitting duck out of Avander. He'd had the edge in speed when they were both on the ground, but it hadn't been a large margin. Avander lowered his head, unfurling his wings with a snap, and launched himself into the air with a powerful leap. The sound of heavy wing beats filled the air as he labored to gain height, before Avander turned in the air so he could face his foe once more.

The roar's effects didn't seem very strong, but it did give them time to think. Even if was only a fleeting few seconds. Xentus was happy enough with the effects, then shifted thought to their next course of action. They had a fair advantage in flight, but keeping their distance like this wouldn't work for long - their opponent seemed ready to take to the air as well. The playing field would be shifted in the foe's favor once it joined the aerial field, given that they were slightly more agile than Alerios on the ground.. Still, this was exactly what he was hoping for. Their opponent giving chase into the air gave them the chance to strike! [Don't make it easy for them, Alé. Wing!], the leopard commanded, watching as the four-legged wiurn began its leap into the air. Alerios shifted course to fly directly above Avander. Then the beast bared down with heavy wingbeats, sending swaths of buffeting winds down below.

Noa watched the other Wiurn closing in on Avander with feverish excitement. "Oh, they're not playing nice at all," he said, a wide grin on his face. Maybe a different handler would have fretted over their partner's safety, but for Noa it was more of a treat to see Avander test his skills against an opponent who could exert real pressure on him.
... Besides, he knew Avander better than that. The horned Wiurn's muscles strained with the effort, but he twisted as he spiraled up, dodging the wings that attempted to beat at him as he rose. He broke through, then leveled out, facing down the rival Wiurn - with labored breathing, but unscathed.
Good.
{At least pretend to worry,} Avander chided.
Noa laughed. "Not a chance. But let's make it a little harder for them. Twist."
{Twist? You don't want me to strike back now?}
"You'll see," Noa said. And Avander wasn't trained to quarrel with Noa, so despite his own misgivings, Avander began to distort the space around himself. The air shimmered between himself and the foe, and a faint hum of strange energy filled the air...

The way the four-legged wiurn flew up was an impressive sight to behold. Their attack, while a cleaver idea, wasn't enough to slow the opposition down. Xentus was hit with a pang of worry - that wiurn was the most well-trained creature he'd seen as of yet. He wasn't sure if Alerios was able to take this thing on.. But they weren't going to back down now. Once the rival wiurn was in the air, he was expecting to see it turn and launch an attack now, but it didn't. Instead it.. Well, he couldn't tell what was going on up there. Was it charging up for something? [This one does not know what our foe is doing, but you must interrupt it, Alé], the man urged, [Svell] The blue-maned wyvern growled threateningly before taking in a breath, heeding the keeper's command. It was.. Hard to see, however. The fuzziness of the air obscured Alerios's aim.. It did its best to lock its sights through the blurriness, then unleashed a breath of freezing cold.
