The woman recognized the trinket, obviously, which was good. In fact, Noa said as much. "Oh good, it's true then, that it does something here? I couldn't figure out how, and I thought someone might be pulling my leg." He tucked it away into a real pocket this time, to make it easier to find the next time he needed it. At least in theory, anyway. Things sometimes got lost despite his best efforts, alas, but one could only do so much. "I'm surprised you don't take it, but I'll hold onto it. Thanks."
"Of course," said the woman. She glanced back down the hall in the direction of her desk, and when she did, Noa did too - which made her stop, apparently self-conscious now that she had drawn his attention to it. "If that's everything...?" she said, not quite a question, but with the air of one.
He figured he should probably let her go. "Mhm, and we'll let you know if we need anything," he said. It was what she had told them before, wasn't it? With that, he stepped into the room, where Rhys was already situated, and Nana followed him in, looking around the room with interest.

Briar watched the back and forth between the poor receptionist, for whom he was beginning to feel some modicum of sympathy, and Noa, who carried on in his usual manner. Noa treated Briar with a particular... something or the other, but it wasn't as if he was necessarily more palatable to anyone else. Still, by the time things wrapped up, he was a little glad to see that someone else had managed to escape the situation, even if it meant that he himself was back in the proverbial hot seat, and in fact about to get locked into it for the next little while.
Still, the sooner they went in, the sooner they could get out. Or to put it another way, they weren't going to get anywhere if he didn't go in. So Briar patted his thigh, and led Doc into the room as well, following after Noa and Nana.

There were probably more interesting smells now that they were actually inside the room, though what she was picking up, he couldn't guess. Was it more other Houluh? Noa surveyed the room himself, but he couldn't' find any obvious signs that it was meant for Houluh specifically. There were more of the pillows that he had glimpsed when peering into the other rooms, all of them bright and cheerful colors, as if that sort of thing mattered. Weren't Houluh at least partially colorblind? Or maybe it was for the Orbaru. Did those things have color vision...? If they did, then this was more a sign that the room was geared toward something other than Houluh, if anything.
Or maybe this was just the sense of taste of the person who ran the place. That was a possibility too.
"I wonder how much they disinfect these spaces," Noa said idly. "It must see a lot of traffic."
{It smells pretty clean in here to me,} Rhys volunteered. {But I guess my sense of smell isn't as strong as Nana's or Doc's.} Rhys was perched on a windowsill - there was a single large window in the room, opposite the door, letting in light.

Briar hadn't even been in the room a full minute before Noa said something unpleasant. It wasn't, as far as Noa-isms went, the worst thing he had ever said, but the fact that it was his first thought upon walking into a perfectly clean room said something about the way his thoughts tended to run. Briar registered the statement only long enough to dismiss it, then put it out of his mind as much as he could. Of course they cleaned the room. He wasn't going to dwell on why Noa thought they ought to, more than other spaces, perhaps.
Instead, he took a seat on one of the beanbag chairs, as far away from Noa as he could manage. Doc trotted around the room, investigating all the pillows and nosing at the few toys that also dotted the ground. He seemed more or less comfortable, so that made one of them.

It wasn't a bad little room at all, actually. The natural light did a lot for the place, even if the walls were a fairly bland white. There was a medium sized painting hanging high up on the wall, out of reach of even the most determined Houluh... probably. Well, maybe not if they jumped. Noa wondered if they would replace it if it broke. The atmosphere was an eclectic mix of doggy day care and waiting room at a dentist's office, which seemed kind of funny to Noa, even though he couldn't have said exactly why.
Nana had familiarized herself with the room, and seeing that they weren't going anywhere, and Noa didn't have any commands to give her, she settled herself onto a pillow and laid there.
{Should we give them some privacy, maybe?} said Rhys.
"Does it matter?" Noa asked.
{Maybe not, but...} Rhys glanced at Briar, almost too quickly for Noa to catch it, but only almost.
"Oh! Are you embarrassed?" A fit of laughter threatened to bubble up out of him. "Then by all means, yes, let's. We can wait outside." Grinning, Noa walked himself back to the door, and held it open. "After you."

Nana had gone to lay herself down on one of the pillows, but Doc had other ideas, running up to her and bowing, trying to get her to chase him. He had always been the type to solicit play, and it was clear that he hadn't grown out of that habit either.
Whatever Briar might have made of it, he was startled from those thoughts by Noa's proposal. His expression darkened. On the one hand, it wasn't very pleasant to find himself the subject of both scrutiny and ridicule. On the other hand though... Well, at least they weren't going to be on hand for... At least it wasn't some kind of weird voyeuristic impulse that had spurred this trip to the breeding center.
Briar decided that he would take what he could get. With a sigh, he walked out the door, and tried to think with more enthusiasm about leaving.
