The bar stools are just tall enough for either of them to lean over without toppling forward. Its quiet, except for the eating of sandwich, sipping of tea, or the chewing of panilla eating a length of young bamboo to keep her pacified. ‘Is that individual still down here, at the quest board?’ The fox asked as he snapped his jaws over a blueberry with a look of bliss in his eyes. She nods, chewing her sandwich. Ham and cheese, with a spread of a bit of spice. ‘Makes my skin crawl to talk to em. Just steer clear, if you can. Eventually he’ll get the item he wants and will leave. I think.’ She says once she swallows her bite of sandwich. ‘I don’t know if he is connected to the Triad either. Slick enough to be; maybe just a local con artist.’ ‘Have you heard of a black haired man with a scarred green eye?’ 15

The temperature of the room felt like it dropped a few degrees. Magpie didn’t trust her paws not to drop something besides the sandwich back on the plate. Calm. Remain calm. “Why” ‘There were a trio of… messengers at the mansion who warned me of one. I…might have met him recently when I took Dawson out with me to fulfill that mousing request.’ How can you be so CALM ABOUT SAYING THAT, she wanted to scream at him. For his sheer naivety. ‘Who is he? Had a long red coat, both eyes were really green, and kind of tanned…’ “Please for the love of the Pale One, you didn’t meet him down a dark alley.” Forgetting her own trouble for a minute or five, Magpie stood up, her hands planted on the counter, fear in her eyes. “No, just down Miisaa. No alleys.” The fox tries to reconcile her. Mira pauses in her chewing on this. 16

Confusion. Fearful friend? Trouble? Bad? Confusion. The emotions filtering between panilla and fox was more confusion then fear of their new friend’s reaction to his question. She sighs, and sits down, promptly popping back up to extract her tail from beneath to not sit on it. “Yeah, I’ve heard of him. He’s known as one of several brains inside of the Triad. Meaning he’s smart, not that he’s just alive.” She figured he’d at least heard of brainless husks, like zombies or animated scarecrow straw-men. “A smoother talker then that slime down there, he really draws in the conversation in any way he wants to take it. He’s a prideful one with the charisma to overcome the present hierarchy of Triad uppers. And if you get on his bad side, you aren’t safe anywhere.” Kristofor honestly wasn’t nearly as afraid looking as she thought he’d be. After all, in some info circles, the scarred green eyed man is a harbringer of death to high places. 17

‘He told me the farmer on Miisaa had lax quality control on his product and that was at least one of the reasons he is desperate for a mouser.’ The fox told her. Magpie paid rapt attention, filing the information away. ‘I believe it was a suggestion to avoid digging deeper onto why the farmer needed a mouser, thats all.’ BS. No way that was all. The green eyed man wasn’t that tame. Stuffing her face with the rest of her sandwich in thought, the raccoon mammalian sat back on her stool, arms folds, looking very deep in thought. While she did so, the fox went in the other room, the sound of ‘sproing’ and ‘snap’ visible to the ear. Something poofs on the counter outside the range of sandwich bits. Her clothes! ‘Your clothing was rather dirty, so I washed it for you.’ His ears looked brilliantly red it seemed. The panilla chirped in a motion that sounded like laughter. 18

“Oh, are you an expert in undressing vulnerable young mammal ladies?” She asked him with a waggle of eyebrows to make any of her more…less innocent friends very proud. If a fox could glow, he was now. Glowing red with embarassment. So much so he excused himself and left the room, to her chuckling openly on his abrupt exit. Poor fox, she was only teasing him. Magpie dressed under the big red blanket and folded it up to put on the stool next to her once complete, taking her seat again to press her finger on each missed sandwich bit and finish eating it. None of her clothes thank goodness, were torn up much. Less to show her roommate. When Kristofor came back in the room, most of his facial fur was sticky outy, like he’d splashed water on his face at least a few times. Probable, his ear hairs are dripping. 19

The panilla wasn’t on him anymore, probably adverse to water. The fur looked seriously thick to her. “I’m sorry, didn’t mean to embarass you…” the smirk on the raccoon’s face told half truth, she was sorry, but not for embarasssing him. Clearly scrapting for his dignity, Kristofor coughed into his wrapped paw. “I din’t think there were any young animals out there still who were vergins.” One brown-gold eye squinted a bit as he looked at her. “No.” The fox says with finality. ‘I am sorry to cut it short, but I do not want my landlord mistaking you for a robber, as you did come in through the window.’ He says, trying not to sound upset. ‘She mentioned dropping in on me today.’ ‘Aw, just introduce me as a girlfirend!’ Magpie chirps, but the fox shakes his head no. “Fine… thank you for patching me up.” She gets off the stool, takes a small handful of berries and gets herself out the door. Once at the foot of the stairs, she looks back up at the closed window. There’s somethign small there, watching her. the information scavenger heads off, ducking down an alley once fully out of sight of the Vall street. There was someone there too. Big and hulking, but another is smaller… 20 +4 -fin
