Sevyrn frequently found herself down that the APAA - usually once a month, to see if any new faces caught her eye among the crowd of creatures in a desperate need for a new home. Sometimes she returned to the kennel with a new face or two to introduce to the group and sometimes she didn’t - sometimes she went a few months before stopping by and her heart both filled with joy at the faces she didn’t see any more and hurt for those she’d seen month after month in the past. Every trip was a bit different from the last but the routine was the same - she’d stop by the front desk and either Matthew or his assistant would welcome her and bring her in to the back, maybe have a quick chat about how the last creatures she brought home were settling in.
Therefore, as she walked through the front door once again she knew, approximately, what to expect.

The pleasantries were quick but sweet today and in the end Sevyrn was welcomed in to the back, where she was given a moment to eye up the rooms full of various creatures waiting for someone to want to love them and give them a good home. Once she’d chosen some that she was interested in getting to know, she was to let the attendant know and then she’d be offered once of the play rooms to get to know her pets of choice - Sevyrn, of course, needed a moment to figure out what she wanted to do today.
She was always pulled in by the young ones - her heart had a soft spot for baby animals, as much as she imagined she’d have a terrible time with an actual human baby. This time around many caught her attention including an older Wiurn, one of the original variety. She remembered how much her heart hurt when Kiri, her Dark Wiurn, had passed away in the extinction of the original version of Wiurn all those years ago. She didn’t think she had it in her to home another Wiurn, though.

Oh, the babies though - they always got her. Some kind of maternal desire welled up in her. She already had a bunch of young ones at home, she really shouldn’t consider any more, but at the same time wasn’t that a good thing? The young ones had so much energy but they also were all generally able to get along with each other, if not at least the ones of their own size - and there was a Chiryma, in there! A baby of the sweet blue Heaven breed that Sevyrn had never gotten the chance to care for before. Of course she just had to at least try to bring that little baby home. There were a couple more, too, that caught her eye - a young yumenokei and pteropty that were playing with each other as if they were already friends as she’d walked by the room.
With that, Sevyrn had picked out who she wanted the chance to get to know.

With that, the young woman headed back towards the entry of the adoption center so that she could talk to the assistant about which of the creatures within these walls she wanted to see about taking home today. When she got there someone else had entered the center and she had to wait her turn, but that was no problem - there was no rushing something good. It wasn’t like the young ones were going to disappear in the few minutes it would take for her to arrange a proper meeting. In time everything was settled and Sevyrn was led to one of the play rooms - moments later her companions for the time were brought in to her.
She planned to spend about an hour here, she imagined - enough time to get to know the young minds to a decent enough degree to figure out if they would fit her home and, in turn, enough time to see if they would be able to come around to her as well.

The play room had some basic toys in it, and a few different kinds of treats were in packages up on the shelves away from the ground so that any visiting pets wouldn’t be able to get at them of their own accord. Sevyrn quickly found the Chiryma to be of the curious type, though there was a cautiousness to its air the little thing was still quick to come check out the stranger in the room. The other two were a bit more hesitant, however, and hovered around each other from the other side of the room once they were put down and the attendant had left. Yes - they were clearly friends, from the way that they huddled together like that.
Sevyrn let out a soft laugh. “I promise - you guys are okay,” she said to them, though she wasn’t expecting any kind of miracle. After all, she was a stranger to these creatures.

Sevyrn was happy to take her time, a bond could only form with patience and a dedication to showing that she meant well. The Chiryma would be an easy sell, it seemed, but the other two? It was okay that they needed more of a chance to warm up to her. Whatever it took for them to be happy, Sevyrn was happy to provide. For now she figured she’d focus on the chirping bird that was getting so close to her that i may as well have climbed in to her lap, and once the other two started warming up to her presence in the room they would start to show curiosity in her as well.
“Why hello there,” Sevyrn said as she slowly extended a hand towards the juvenile, who hopped another step towards her and tilted its head in curiosity. Then, exuding the same mix of confident and cautious energy, the Chiryma leaned in and poked at the palm of Sevyrn’s hand with its beak.

Sevyrn moved slowly as she reached her other hand up towards the shelf, hoping to make sure that she didn’t startle any of the critters in the room with her as she did so. She pulled down a few treat bags and popped them on to the floor beside her, looking through the collection as the Chiryma continued to sniff at her and investigate the new person in its life. Luckily enough she’d managed to pull down the right variety for every one of her current companions - first she pulled out some for the Chiryma right in front of her and once the little guy was occupied by food she was able to dig through the other bags much easier to grab the right snacks for everyone else. In the end she had each hand holding an appropriate snack for the yumenokei and pteropty, and she held the offerings out to the nervous pair.

The two were slowly getting a bit more comfortable with Sevyrn’s presence, and the yummy aroma of treats was enough to pique their interest at least a touch. The pteropty lowered its head towards the ground just slightly and took a couple tentative steps towards the woman before pausing in hesitation. The yumenokei was even more cautious - clearly interested in getting a snack, but unsure what to think of the girl holding the snacks.
“It’s okay, you don’t have to come over here,” Sevyrn said to the pair, and gently tossed the treats towards the respective creatures. They seemed more than happy to gobble those up when they didn’t have to get too close, and the unexpected reward was enough to lower their guard just a touch. As the Chiryma started poking at the outside of Sevyrn’s thigh, seeking more treats, the Pteropty began to carefully move closer.

There was something sweet about the Pteropty’s nature - all it took was a bit of time and some snacks, and the little thing was getting much more excited about checking out the newcomer. Sevyrn could appreciate the natures of all the creatures with her right now, from the most timid to the most adventurous. They would all have their place back at the kennel, if everyone agreed that they would make a good match. Only the Chiryma seemed sold on her as of yet but that was okay - bonding took time and that little critter seemed like the type who would have loved anyone who had shown up and given it attention.
Sevyrn scratched the top of the chiryma’s head gently. “No more - not for now,” she told it as she focused her attention on the pteropty that was now testing the waters. Seeing its friend grow brave seemed to be helping the yumenokei get out of its shell, as well.

Whether the yumenokei came around sooner or later didn’t bother Sevyrn - she had patience for the creatures around her and already had the whole attention of one, nearly two. The last of the group would feel comfortable when it felt comfortable, and as Sevyrn started to introduce herself to the pteropty that neared her she kept a watchful eye on the late joiner. The pteropty sniffed at her and then looked at her curiously, and Sevyrn cocked her head with an exaggerated playful expression on her face. She tested the waters with a gentle scratch under the winged baby’s chin and once she noticed the pteropty seemed to be receptive of that, she slowly moved her hand towards the little one’s cheek.
“Yeah, see - I’m not so bad,” she cooed as the pteropty leaned its face in to Sevyrn’s touch, and the woman took that as permission to keep interacting with it.

When the pteropty allowed Sevyrn to scratch the top of its head, the young one’s yumenokei buddy seemed to take that as a sign that all was well - the other baby trusted its friends judgement when it came to others, it seemed. The pale blue critter bounded towards its friend and the stranger with a strange bout of boldness, though it stopped to rest several feet away. The pteropty rejected the change when Sevyrn pulled her hand away to reach towards the Yumenokei, so it seemed that it was good thing she had two hands. Hell, was she not born with two hands so that she would be able to pet two animals at the same time anyways?
“What? Your friend gets all nice with me and now you gotta come join the party?” She always spoke with such a soft voice when dealing with the young ones, and the bougetsu was no exception.

Sev reached out with her free hand towards the last of her current companions, a slow and careful movement so she didn’t risk scaring the newcomer away. The young one seemed to appreciate the respect that Sevyrn was showing, and it moved closer towards Sevyrn. The young one moved slower this time around, clearing the last few feet with small, delicate paw steps rather than the big leaps and bounds it had used to get closer in the first place. That was just fine, of course - it could take all of the time that it needed. At the same time, the Chiryma had noticed that there were no eyes on it and started digging at the bags of treats still on the ground with its beak in hopes of getting more delicious snacks out of it. As soon as Sevyrn noticed, she had to shake her head in amusement.

The Chiryma was not making any success yet and as such, Sevyrn was not concerned. She wasn’t about to move to push the adolescent bird away from the bag when she was so close to making friendly with the Yumenokei unless she absolutely had to. Once the young one was close enough it, like the others, took an investigative sniff of the human girl. After that, all the previous bets seeemd to be off - it became as fearless as its pteropty friend and skipped past Sevyrn’s extended arm to bound towards her crossed-legged lap. It hopped up on to her lap and stretched its body up, resting a paw against Sevyrn’s chest so that it could get close to her face. Ballsy now, huh? Sevyrn had to laugh.
“Well hello to you, too,” she said as she pulled her arm in to pet the Yume’s back with a gentle scratch.

And this was what bliss looked like, in Sevyrn’s eyes - just her by her lonesome with a bunch of younger critters around her as her only company. She felt the same way back at home, too. The yumenokei vocalized softly as Sevyrn’s fingers pet at the fur on its back, and it stretched its head up to sniff at Sevyrn’s neck and chin. Once it had done that, it hopped and its front paws landed on her shoulder - it didn’t quite have the leverage to get its hind legs up, though, and it kicked at Sevyrn’s body in an attempt to clamber the rest of the way up on to her shoulder.
“Okay, okay-“ Sevyrn laughed, supporting the Yumenokei by the bum to help it find its footing. Once its hind legs were up on her shoulder, the young one tried to climb atop her head.

The pteropty seemed to think that its friend’s antics were the best thing ever and as Sevyrn was busy trying to convince the yumenokei that climbing atop her head was not a good idea she felt a weight in her lap - she hadn’t even noticed the pteropty had climbed up on her until it had settled down. This one was, however, much more calmer about getting closer to her than the yumenokei was. It was strange, how quickly the tables had turned - when they had first walked in to this room Sevyrn had not imagined that the pteropty would be be calmer more relaxed one while the yumenokei was hopping around and exploring her like this was just another day in the life. One could not judge a book by its cover, though - or an unknown creature by how it acted when unfamiliar with whoever was around it.
