Just thinking about that made Badrani laugh, belly-laughter like the time they had went night fishing, but this time it was much more fun and less tinged with a tad of panic than it had been. Now, she was confident that they would have a good day. The morning sunlight bled down over the painted cliffs, and she was so pleased with how crisp and nice the air felt. It wasn't quite cold, but it wasn't hot either. She could get really used to this 'Autumn' thing, she thought. Shahrazad didn't wait for her to get down to the bottom of the cliff, and instead raced down into the water immediately to splash around. The water was still muddy, but it was much clearer today. It was easy to see that there were minnows all around; good for bait (Badrani thought) and good to tell whether there was anything dangerous in the water (noted by Shahrazad).

Badrani was happy that at the very least, young Shahrazad was in much better spirits. Now they were much better equipped for such a day of fishing, neither of them were in bad spirits. Badrani keeps an eye on Shahrazad out of an overabundance of caution, and she goes over to try to find some minnows that would be easy to trap again. She had done quite a decent job that night on the river, so she was certain that she could duplicate that success entirely. The Ssashirk moves over to the bank with the least turbulence from the river on that side and she bent down, watching with keen eyes for the silvery flash of the minnows in the light of the reddish dawn. Finally, a silver streak passes her eyes and darts into a cloud of silt. She immediately dug out a hole (which began to fill with water since it was near the river bed).

Shahrazad was still a little bit away, playing in the water. It was still fairly cool, so Badrani was a little concerned that the water would give her another chill (that was a thing she'd heard about before) but she focused on the little minnows and managed to scoop out a tiny water 'slide' between the river and the hole she had dug at just the right time to sweep some of the minnows into the hole. The Ssashirk worked quickly after that and carefully filled the slide back in with mud to make a bit of a wall to keep them from getting out. At this, she processed one of the minnows for bait, and soon enough had it on properly. She felt like she was beginning to get better at this. They'd have fish to cook for a meal in no time, she was convinced!
She turns towards the river, and glances around frantically after she realizes that she cannot see Shahrazad anywhere.

She knew that Shahrazad could swim well enough, but she had no idea what kind of creatures could be in the water (she hadn't seen any up to that point but she'd learned well enough that this didn't necessarily mean anything). She looked frantically for a few quick moments and then breathed a sigh of relief whenever she saw Shahrazad pop up out of the water, looking pretty pleased with herself. Badrani decided not to say anything, but waved Shahrazad over so that they could sit near one another while Badrani fished. Shahrazad was more than happy to take a break from swimming, since the water was indeed cool that day, so Badrani towels her off with a towel she'd brought and they find the nice flat rock from the other day to sit on so that they could start fishing. Shahrazad snuggles into Badrani's side, and watches the minnows swim through the water with curiosity.

Badrani really wanted to begin being able to get that 'flick' just right to get the hook into the water with finesse. Up to this point however, she had so little experience that she wasn't entirely sure if she could do it with the bait on the hook. However, she had been practicing at home the last few days without bait, and she felt like she had perhaps gotten good enough to really try. She tries the same technique she had worked on for days, and managed to get the hook into the water quite a bit a ways away more than she had before. With a lot of work, she could tell that someday- she might even be able to get really good at getting the hook into different places.
That morning they had a very good time, talking about random things while trying to fish in the fairly muddy river.

The wet paint of the morning bled on and on across the metaphorical page of time until it became time for lunch. Badrani hadn't been having any luck with the attempt at fishing, so she reeled in her line and placed the fishing pole down onto the flat rock beside them. She had packed a good lunch for them, something similar to what they had that night. Smoked fish, with some nice spreadable soft cheese and some salted flakey bread buttered with honey butter. Badrani savored the food (which was nothing like she would have eaten anywhere else- this wasn't something that would be easy to get out in her homeland) and gave an extra portion to Shahrazad, since she had been ill recently and Badrani was worried about her condition. She seemed to be doing well, but she hadn't had much of an apatite for the last few days since the entire debacle.
After lunch, they spent a couple more hours out to collect anything they could (not that they had any luck up to that point) and then the pair went home to rest. They were much more happy with their fishing trip this time.
