Thankfully, its about this time that the elderly woman comes back into the yard to check on his progress. She shouts at the trees who are making a horrible racket with their pounding fists. Who seem to 'understand' her, and pause in their great noisemaking. Muttering about making the neighbors stare and such, but by her tone, Kristofor believes it's not the first time this has happened.
"Ah! It WAS a kito! Tricky little buggers. Hahaha, look boy see? The rings covering its body? Blends right in with the group. Except for the flower."
The kito, now known, is distracted from following Kristofor for fresh meat by a fruitfly buzzing around. It hops up in the air, snaps at it, misses, and lands awkwardly. The flower folds up and isn't seen. She sees the gap in its teeth, putting two and two together for what appears to have happened, especially since the grove of baby saplings comes moving as one up to where 'mother nature' seems to be, creaking and groaning with the small one shuffled among them, with the snapped head branch. "Poor baby, gave it the one-two and it blended in to avoid being hit again." The bird-plant croaks again. Taking advantage of the creature's distraction on her, Kristofor grabs the thing around the middle and HEAVES it up over the fence to be on their side now.
"Ha...hahhah...done now. Found imposter." He breathes hard for a moment. Then directs her attention to the not-so-small tree walker that is with the grove, waving its 'fur bandaged' hand about in awe. "My ...turtle... bit your tree. It beat up my cart." Gesturing at the damaged cart with a sigh, the turtle.
Somehow she doesn't feel very sorry for his damaged cart. What because it was his creature's fault, and therefore his?
"Nyssa, particularly oaks, are quicker to hit back than the maples. If your pet is alright, then no harm is done. Buy yourself a mallet from the local rock shop and beat the metal back into place. A dented cart still rolls." Directing his attention to a thoroughly beaten-up handcart on the other side of the yard. It's PLENTY dented and beaten up. She mentions on the kito creature was supposed to be in a separate shipment but it was 'permanently delayed', professional talk for the post lost the creature. At least they could call the shipper and tell them she'd found her missing creature; Thanking him and his "tortoise" for their work and shooing them along.
The kito never did get its second piece of jerky.
A careful inspection of the turtle's shell in better light after the fact shows it was a very lucky creature to not be wrecked by the hitting tree. A walloping oak, it appears.
