Merle's head popped up a little for a moment before he became a little more intent, thinking he found something off in the distance, but the trail was right there and he had to follow it for a little while. Was there something he could find or would the trail end without a prize? He tilted his head, glancing around, but then focused on the smell again, trying his best to figure out what this was exactly. Hopefully he would find an animal he hadn't yet, but was that even possible? He looked back at Jack for a moment in the distance and then hurried off after the scent of the trail, eyes sparkling happily as he tried to decide what it was he was smelling. This was nice though, he wasn't really sure what he needed, though he didn't really know if it was him needing something and not just wanting it.

Merle _RNlg7IY1-10He froze, eyes locked on the base of a tree nearby. Merle lowered himself a little, creeping toward what he saw before pouncing, catching the bird between his teeth, loose but not enough for it to escape. The bird shrieked and tried to flutter it's wings, but he had a decent hold on it and it barely moved by the time Jack caught up to him. She looked at it, eyes sparkling happily as she took the pigeon from Merle, grinning from ear to ear. "Well it's definitely something new! You haven't gotten one of these guys yet, good boy!" she told him happily, putting it into a little container in her bag, patting the outside of it with a smile. Jack crouched down and patted him on the head, down enough to be eye to eye with her first trained Ohou. Merle's tail wagged furiously, tongue lolling out happily, he loved stuff like this. So far he'd been pretty productive, but Jack wasn't sure if he was all that happy with himself just yet. She rubbed his back and then patted him, the motion made him take off again to see what else he could find today. A little smile escaped her and she sighed a little as she tried to figure out what she was going to do with all of this stuff when they ended up getting home. Of course, she lived in her Kennel again, a house had been too much for her after awhile and she really got annoyed at living alone. Sure, she had her animals there, but... a house wasn't much without another person there, and her eyes went sad for a moment before she shook her head. There wasn't time for her to feel sorry for herself about how lonely she was, she needed to focus on the more important stuff. Right?

As she watched him, hands in her pockets, head down a little, she saw a hint of tension run through him again, he'd caught the scent of something, though she had no idea what it was. That was the worst part, she really wished she could help him out with some of it, but she would just be in the way she figured. Sure, she knew some of the stuff she was doing, but... what was the point right now? This was something Merle had to do, and she smiled a little, trying to figure out if she wanted to keep going today or not. It wasn't late at all, it was well before noon still, and she sighed a bit. Maybe she'd been out too long already though, she had kept herself hidden away for awhile again, though she didn't know why that happened sometimes. Maybe her moods were just off anymore.

This one seemed to be giving him a little trouble, but she knew it would work out well enough after awhile. Jack rubbed the back of her head and glance toward the sky for a moment to see if any weather seemed to be rolling in, but... it wasn't, of course. A sigh escaped her, she really wanted some good storms, that might help her mood out a little, but then again, that would mean leaving the Everfields for awhile again and Merle was having so much fun it seemed, even though it seemed this one was giving him some problems this time. Jack smiled a little, this was going to be fine she thought, hopefully he would find something she wanted and they could finally get out of here for awhile, but she really wasn't going to bet on it. Chewing on her thumbnail, she watched the Ohou sniff around at the ground to try and track this critter.

Oh he was really annoyed now, he grumbled a little to himself as he sniffed around, this thing was evading him pretty well so far, he was pretty irritated. Jack watched him as he tensed a little more each time he moved, trying to find out what and where this thing was, if he lost the scent he was going to lose his mind. She grimaced a little, this was the longest he'd gone without finding something for awhile, so hopefully it wouldn't discourage him too much as time went on, maybe he would come across whatever it ended up being after awhile. All she could really do was hope, she thought as she glanced around to see if she could catch signs of a presence nearby. She was pretty good with tracking herself, but she didn't have the nose most animals had. Oh well, at least she could maybe help a little bit, right?

Yeah this wasn't going so well. Merle scowled at the ground, trying to figure out what he was going after. This was annoying, and he didn't know what to do now. Tilting his head, the Ohou glanced around for a moment or two before wandering off again, nose to the ground. What was he going to do right now anyway, what if he didn't find anything good? A growl escaped him a bit and he shook his head, unsure of what he was going to do with this hunt. He wasn't too worried about things at the moment... he just hoped the weather wouldn't turn while he was doing what he needed to do. A glance backwards showed the woman still following at a distance, wondering what she would say if they couldn't get anything right now. Oh well, he just had to keep going... right? A low woof escaped him and he narrowed his eyes.

This was the luck that seemed to be happening with her for awhile now, Jack thought as Merle seemed pretty upset with himself at this point, whatever it was, it was really giving him a run for his money. She frowned as well, wondering what would happen, what was this thing anyway? What was the last thing that gave him this much trouble... was it that sloth? She nodded a little, she thought that was it, maybe that was the case again, but there was no way to really know until he managed to find what it was. Pushing her hair back, she hoped that things were going to go a little better, even though he was starting to really get a little worked up. She wished she could give him a little encouragement, but there was no point in distracting him while he was off hunting, that would only make it worse.

This was tricky, and he really didn't like it too much. A canine version of a frown crossed his face as he tried to figure out why this was going so badly right now. He'd started off strong, he didn't know what had happened. Was weather moving in...? A glance to the sky told him no, everything was fine, though it was warming up outside at this point. Jack watched him, smiling a little as he attempted to figure out what was going wrong with this hunt. If he lost his way, that was fine, they could come back another time, or she could come back with Diana. His daughter was great at what she did, and the Ohou seemed pleased with the thought she might come out with the woman as well again. Luck had a weird habit of doing what it wanted to do, he just hoped he would find something good eventually.

Merle |gXwFdBz1-10His nose twitched and the Ohou shot off toward a grouping of bushes in the distance, eyes narrowed angrily as he realized what he had been after. The Ohou tore into the brush and hauled out an animal as Jack hurried over, only to hear a snap. Well... hopefully she already had one of whatever he had found, but she didn't blame him for being mad at this thing for taking him on such a chase. Reddish orange fur showed as he dragged it out and she chuckled, okay, she did already have a fox, she could deal with that. The woman patted his back and then went ahead and took the fox's tail, putting it into her bag when she made sure it wouldn't affect anything else in there already. Well, at least he had found this one, but what was going to happen next? Tilting her head, she hoped something good would come up. [Jack: 4/20 Merle: 43 4/5] 1-10

Now that that was done... Jack smiled a little and gave him a nice big treat for finishing up that leg of the hunt, that stupid fox had taken quite a bit of work, really sent Merle on a chase, which he was not happy with in the slightest. She stretched out a little and yawned as he munched on the treat and then he stood and stretched as well, shaking his head to get himself going again. "Alright buddy, let's keep on, shall we?" she asked, nodding toward the tree line. The Ohou glanced over his shoulder and gave a low woof before bounding off again to find something else. This might take awhile, but she wasn't too upset about it. Giving another yawn, she followed him into the trees and wondered what else there was out there today. Surely something would leave behind some of what she needed, right?

Maybe the fox had run a lot of things off at this point, he wasn't smelling too much at the moment, which was fine, but he was going to get irritated if everything happened again. Sighing, the Ohou sniffed around a little, trying to find out what he was going to track this time. There had to be something, right? Tilting his head, the Ohou yawned a little and then shook his head as well, he had to admit he was getting a little tired, but that was mainly because it had been so long since he'd been out here hunting. Maybe his stamina would increase if they kept coming out here, but he really didn't know at this point. Jack was far behind him at the moment, but she could tell he was getting a little concerned about things for now. Ah well, he would find something, she was sure of it.
