Gently, they placed the bud back in the dirt, near where it had been found. It would be easy to see and not easy to crush. Spectral, eager as ever, threw himself down into a playful canine bow before the bud. His tail wagged back and forth expectantly. Of course, the bud did not move. It did not speak. "It is no use," the satyr chuckled to the houluh. But he did not seem to be so easy to deter.
Even while Zenjesi resumed their gardening, he pranced in a circle around it, yapping and wagging. He had deciphered that it was, in fact, alive. But how could he access the friend inside? Zenjesi shook their head, turning back to the work at hand. They had come here for garden produce, to trade for magical crystals. They were weeding. They were assessing which plants were productive and which were not.

They had uncovered far more than they had bargained for, certainly. But that was a worry for another day. Today, now, they could find their solace in the rhythm of the natural order. A stem, traced to its tips, identified, then harvested or uprooted accordingly. It was soothing. It was enriching.
Now, with bare hands, they dug their fingers into the earth. Some things did not change. The dirt still smelled of dirt, even within the Labs. They felt a cool, wet nudge on their elbow. Spectral's nose had presented itself, and he was looking up to them now with a contented, open mouthed grin. They smiled, petting him on the head and ruffling his disproportionately long ears. He was growing quickly. These puppy days would soon be behind them. Some things did change, they supposed, but not every change was one to be rejected.
Then, the flower bud opened.

Now might not be the best time for it, but it would seem you're not alone. There is an audible rustling in the grass beyond - something knocks loose a berry that comes to roll and stop before you-- Oh. It's the snout of a lotine, who is now resolutely staring at the scene before it, too. To Tame the Lotine: Make at least 3-5 RP posts interacting with the creature and trying to tame it. At the end of your taming attempt, make your last post with [done] and wait for staff approval.

If Zenjesi was vocally capable of screaming, perhaps they would have. Too many alarming things occurred at the same time. They had only just noticed the petals of the flower uncurling when Spectral began to yap ferociously. A bunana rolled out of the greenery. What appeared to be the head of a snake followed. The satyr dropped their gloves as they pushed back off of their knees and fell instead onto one hip. What was happening? How could they make it all cease?
Listen to instinct. Quickly, Zenjesi crawled their way between the emerging head and the tiny Harachiu. That seemed to be the primary concern. Spectral was merely being noisy, but they sincerely doubted he would become aggressive; the prior incident with the Koguma had demonstrated that. The bunana was very unlikely to be a threat in any way, though they supposed nothing could be ruled out without further inspection.

The Harachiu was a frightful thing all on its own, but they did not worry themselves about turning their back on it. What was more important was keeping their attention fixated on this newcomer. Or perhaps it was not new at all. Perhaps it had been living amongst the mysteries of their garden, just as the Harachiu bud had been growing in the shadows.
"Are you a friend?" the satyr asked of the little head. "Spectral, quiet, please." They reached out for their houluh, pulling him closer and attempting to quiet him. If this curious creature was no threat to them, it would be a shame to spook it. He barked one more time, then fell quiet. His disproportionately large paws were planted in a wide stance as he stared the head down. Perhaps he was feeling more protective than usual with his new small friend having just bloomed behind.

Unfortunately, the creature did not answer Zenjesi's inquiry. It would have been much simpler - though perhaps also more frightening - if it had. Still, its eyes were shifting between Zenjesi, their hound, and the bunana that had evidently only just evaded its grasp. The satyr leaned closer, narrowing their eyes at it. A beautiful dappling of browns and greens covered its head, its eyes a warm yellow. They realized, with a start, that what they had believed to be a flower of their garden was actually affixed to the creature's head as it turned. Intriguing.
Cautiously, the satyr crawled towards it, watching for warning or threatening signs. It made no sound whatsoever, though its head did raise, revealing long, thick tendrils almost like braids of hair on either side of its head. They wondered if they ought to offer it the bunana, but they were not yet certain that either they or the creature wished to be befriended by the other.

As they approached, they carefully extended one hand, palm up. Zenjesi paused for a moment to allow the creature a moment of consideration. It seemed to determine that that was quite enough, and withdrew back into the shrubbery with a rustle. Spectral's ears stood a little higher. Of course, despite his earlier misgivings he wished it had not gone, now that it had.
But the satyr did not believe they could simply let this be; this encounter had raised many questions. If there was a potential predator or pest living in their garden, they ought to be aware of the dangers. After a moment of distress, they tucked the Harachiu into their bag safely and commanded Spectral to stay beside it. Then they crawled into the brush after the retreating trail of the creature.
The moment they entered, they heard further rustling, as though the snake-like visitor was retreating further.

Following the sounds and the slight imprints in the grasses, they finally located it, though they were not nearly so small or agile in the brush as it was. The creature was quite well-camouflaged, but the sight of it was somewhat pitiful. There was no intentional water feature within Zenjesi's garden plot, but the lowest point had evidently filled with rainwater from a recent storm. The creature had flattened itself within the oversized puddle. It seemed hardly deep enough to remain submerged. The satyr frowned. "This will not do," they murmured. The idea of adding some sort of a pond to their space had not occurred to them until now, but it seemed there were some that would benefit from one.
Still, it did not seem just to leave an evidently amphibious creature to puddles; perhaps they could offer it more suitable accommodations in the meanwhile. Laying down on their stomach, so as to seem less threatening, the satyr observed the creature for several minutes, and suspected they were being inspected in return. With any luck, the puddle-dweller would understand they were no threat to it. Slowly, they dipped one hand into the water, moving carefully with the aim to allow the creature to explore their fingers before they endeavored to touch it. But their fingers brushed some of the grasses under the water, and stirred out a small insect. Immediately, the snake-like creature snapped it up. Perhaps that would help convey their intent?
