The stallion was really showing his athleticism today! Renathan felt the creature's speed and stamina as he threw himself through the four dashes, only afterwards appearing the smallest amount tired. Renathan was pleased with this that day; and allowed him a long drink before riding the stallion home. This would be repeated every day, with more dashes added as Renathan felt he was ready for them, for the next week. By the end of the week, the creature appeared to fly across the ground on hooves as fleet as wings, dashing without any tiredness. Thankfully, the next few days had been a lot cooler on them, so the creature was able to work toward stamina for longer and longer each day without risking dehydration. Renathan was happy with him after that week; he was able to dash so many times in a row that it almost caused him to feel sick at the sudden direction changes! Renathan was finally very happy with his and the stallion's progress with the endurance needed to dash in battle instantaneously; in case they needed to flee a dangerous enemy's flurries of attacks.

Renathan had decided one day during the next week, as he had watched the stallion run around in the at-home coral, that this equillion might be the straight-line fastest runner he'd seen in a long time. Races were not a big thing in the City, and would hardly be fair since people would most likely try to pit mosca, easily some of the fastest fliers, with something like golossle, which were more distance-runners than speedy... But against other equillion, Shy Guy was a real treat. He often saw him racing all of the other creatures on the farm; even the fleet-footed galabex. Renathan was now watching him nose the grass. Renathan sat atop the fence, stroking his chin beneath the mask. Yes, he would go ahead and start training him to REALLY run; but he knew that it would take a long time to work him into that kind of training.

The stallion was certainly spirited, a bit of a trickster, though quiet. He was a rambunctious creature at heart, and Renathan did enjoy watching him play in the fields. He seemed quite smart, and that was pretty strange to Renathan. He wasn't intelligent like a human, but he would watch things; naturally. Little things like leaves on the water, or birds flying overhead, with simple rapture. Renathan hoped that since they had worked on his endurance, that they could really work on his speed. Of course, speed, not dexterity. They were quite different aspects of a creature, after all. Renathan already had the stallion kitted up and ready to go in his tack; but he just wanted to watch the stallion for a moment. After that moment, Renathan shoves off of the fence and trots out to the giant bay creature, mounting him with a quick leap. The stallion accepts the rider easily, and then is coaxed forward using the reins.

Renathan took him out of the coral, which he had left open specifically for this purpose, and wheeled him around to a track that he had seen nearby. It wasn't a big one, but it was a long stretch of dirt road that was flat and soft. Perfect for this attempt, he figured. He steadied and then stopped the equillion at the start of the soft loamy ground. Renathan felt the stallion breathe beneath him, and he leaned down, stroking the creature's mane and pushing the muzzle of his mask into it from a moment. Then, he leans up, stands in the saddle and crouches slightly, and then urges the stallion forward, with a certain flick of the wrist at the reins. He urged the creature as fast as it would go; and the stallion started off at an amble for the first few steps; and then opened up WIDE. Renathan could feel the equillion's stride widen out, and his breath nearly caught in his throat.

The stallion was definitely fast, but there was something about the way his movement was interpreted that made the stallion really get competitive. It was almost like he was racing his shadow; made long by the evening sun. It was almost like time slowed down as the vaguely bovid animal flew across the land as if on wings instead of hooves. It was certainly a good thing that Renathan had years of experience riding creatures of all different kinds, because he was almost un-equillionlike, unlike anything he'd ridden previously, whenever he decided he was going to run the way he did. There was a kind of determination that Renathan could feel from him. The end of the track came up quicker than Renathan could even guess, and he was able to get the stallion, with a little diffciulty, to slow up. However, Renathan just knew, just knew, that this was the start of something he wasn't sure what to think about.

Renathan wheeled the stallion back around to look at the track; his hoofprints all in the dark brownish-red earth that was so soft on the stallion's hooves. That softness had certainly been conveyed to him easily through the stallion's movements, which he'd come to know quite well by this point. Renathan swallowed, and leaned forward on the stallion, giving him a pat on the neck and then offering him a piece of apple. Renathan noticed that the stallion hadn't even broken a sweat, and was barely breathing harder than normal. Renathan waited for the stallion to eat his treat, and then he gently flicked his risk, and urged the stallion forward. The stallion got that strange look in his eyes again; bright blue and shining like ice on clouds- with a sharp edge about them. The stallion opened his run wide up, taking a standing Renathan along with him with a slightly exhilarated feeling. After the equillion finally stopped, Renathan decided to get him home for that day. Yes, they'd work on this more in the future.

It was Vet day for Shy Guy, and Renathan wanted to stallion to be checked up on while he ran and leapt, to make sure that his body was holding up. He could have had it done at the Farm, but he had better obstacles out here, he figured. Renathan leads the stallion equillion out to the coral, where the animal healer was already waiting. Renathan was well off, thanks to his jewelry-making skills, and that allowed him the ability to take care of his animals quite well... Shy Guy was especially spoiled, if only since he needed lots of training to get him to act more acceptably. Renathan placed the payment with the Vet without much thought to it, and then asks the stallion to bow so that he could mount more daintily. The creature healer watches carefully as the huge equillion raises up without any amount of strain or weakness in his legs.

The stallion is then coaxed forward, with Renathan giving a slight squeeze to beckon him to add just a tad of speed onto that. The form of the equillion was as to be expected, a cross between a typical horse and most likely a deer; despite the creature being technically bovid. The creature danced across the ground in the cool morning; hardly disturbing the colder dew on the grass blades. Pure equillions were not typically that large, and certainly not typically that powerful; but Shy Guy still had the soft movements that so defined the breed. His great, spiraling horn did not overcome his head's careful carriage, graceful neck arched beautifully. The stallion was a little more blocky than most equillion, as could easily be noted, more horselike. Renathan turns the stallion and the creature's natural gait was very easily seen, a four-beat non-typical strange thing, that made Renathan not move in the saddle much at all. A smooth ride.

The creature had been bought from the Labs, designed to be quite different from other pure equillion. Renathan then pushed the creature into an amble, and then raced him across the grass, having him leap on top of one of the dry stones. He then asked the stallion into a rear, with his hooves held in the air, and then coaxed him off of the rock. He moved the creature around closer to the creature healer again, and then stopped him again, before commanding him into a dash, and then two more. The creature did what was asked of him with ease, and a sort of playful precision that made him look eerily dangerous, with his childlike demeanor. Renathan dismounted from the saddle and then put him through some more paces, a few of his commands, so that the creature healer could watch him a little more. Renathan soon got to a stopping point, and backed up to lean on the fence of the coral near the creature healer.

The stallion stood there when allowed at ease by Renathan stepping away, and then gently bent down to test the soft morning grass with his nose. The 'vet' continues watching the impressive equillion with a careful eye even as he spoke to Renathan. 'What do you feed him at present?' The vet scribbles down on his paper, he'd kept papers on the stallion every since Renathan had hired him, to keep up with the creature's health. The city very rarely ever really told the owners exactly what to do to keep their prized creatures in the topmost shape, so Renathan was sure that he would find what the best diet for his creature's needs were. "He gets mostly soft greens, with more fruit, then equal measures treats in birds and fish sometimes. He prefers the birds." The vet nodded, and then settles out with Renathan in tow. Renathan keeps the stallion quiet while the creature healer checks the equillion's heart rate and other such things.

The huge stallion stood still only because Renathan wanted him to; but he hardly noticed the vet's quick but gentle movements. It was over before the stallion could even catch wise, and the creature healer retreats, jotting down a few more notes. Renathan then brings the stallion around and coaxes his mouth open, so that the vet could look from across the fence at the creature's strange teeth. Afterwards, they moved the creature to the brook, so that the creature's swimming could be checked. Renathan turns towards the creature healer, allowing the stallion to get his chilly early morning swim in. After a moment or two, the vet stats that the creature was indeed in good shape, but perhaps needed less greens by a small amount and a slight bit more bird. The creature was not a complete herbivore it seemed, suggesting some slight tainted influence. Renathan had guessed as such, so he mentally makes sure to change that in the future. The creature healer left after communicating a few more bits and bobs, especially about safety during training for the creature's thin legs.

Now that the vet was gone, Renathan wanted to start up some more training. He had decided to wait to continue the racing training until later on, when the grass wasn't quite so wet. He didn't want the large creature to slip and fall anywhere, that would not be good for either of them, of course. The stallion was probably hungry, since he had brought himself out without feeding him today, so he knew that whatever they trained would probably be pretty quick, and especially would need to be done pretty quickly. Luckily for the equillion, he had brought whole apples today, in addition to the half apples. He would go home and get more food later, anyway. Renathan had made sure that the drake dummy was brought out here even earlier in the morning; so he figured they could work on the 'incapacitate the enemy with the horn' trick today? Well, he figured that if his sarane's claws could do such a thing, then the super sharp and long horn could also do such a thing.

Of course this was a bit of a strange stretch; Renathan had never before seen an equillion use much of their horn in battle; perhaps a striking motion, but nothing with lots of finesse. He hoped that the extra-sharp horn that Shy Guy possessed would help with this training; and if it didn't work out, well, he did enjoy spending time with his creature anyway, after all. Renathan leads the stallion over toward the drake dummy, and then watches the stallion's body become obviously aggressive, stamping a foot, and tightening all of the muscles. Even his ears slipped back in this display of aggression. Renathan watches the stallion for just a moment before trying to decide exactly how they were going to do this. He had trained this several times before, but it was always with claws, and always with a ribbon of telepathy to explain the idea of the situation. Renathan knows that he could certainly use the creature's aggression toward the dummy for this.

Renathan decides that this may have to be a moment where he takes a bit of an advantage of the fact that the equillion trusted him. Renathan leans forward, and takes the horn of the equillion gently in one hand, while putting his other hand under the stallion's jaw so that the creature wouldn't be harmed whenever he moved the creature. At that, he gently guides the stallion to where the horn is across the dummy's legs. Renathan then gently guides the creature's horn from right to left, and back again. Renathan then looks the stallion directly in the eyes, with a serious look to him, and then he moves the creature's head to where the horn was brought across the legs again. At this, Renathan steps back, and calls out, 'Catch Wide!' Then, he leans forward, and moves the horn in the exact same way again, to try to drive his point home. Then he gives the stallion a small piece of pink apple, half the size of normal.

The equillion takes the apple piece and has it gulped down incredibly quickly. The stallion had been used to Renathan's training style for a long time, so he knew that something that had been done meant that he could have the treat. He only got treats when he did something just right. Renathan was quiet for a moment, and then gestures towards the dummy again. "Catch Wide!" The stallion glances back at Renathan after the mammalian calls out the command, searching his eyes for a moment. Then, he twists back around toward the drake dummy and tries to repeat the moment, scraping the tip of his horn on the drake's front leg, and then back leg, in one good swoop. It was weak; but it was a start. Renathan gives the stallion another slice of crisp pink apple as a treat for it. The stallion takes the piece, and then seems to stare at Renathan thoughtfully while he chews.
